Want to use IPod older 5th gen ver6 and new 2nd gen ver7 on same computer

My oldest daughter has older 5th generation IPod version 1.0 and ITunes version 6. Everything works great. I have read issues with ITunes version 7.xx. Glad I declined upgrade notice. It would be a bad thing to loose or have issues with her set up. Bought younger daughter Nano 2nd generation for X-Mas. I hooked up Nano to computer tonight to charge. Thought about downloading music for her before X-Mas day. ITunes came up and said needs version 7 for interfacing with Nano. Can I set up another instance of ITunes with a different version for a seperate Windows XP user? Is there issues or concerns with this setup? Is there better way? Has ITunes 7.xx issues been resolved? What about updating IPod firmware to 1.2? Speaking of firmware. Do I update firmware via ITunes 7.xx?

  • Buying used iPod Touch 5th Gen?

    Hello Apple Forum Users,
I've seen A LOT of people purchasing a used iPod Touch 5th Gen and got screwed over because of some security protection and there's no way around it. I've been wanting to upgrade from the 4th Gen, but have been worry about.
    What's the deal?

The deal is called Find My iPhone, it is a lock that permits ONLY the owner of a device to unlock or reset it. If a device gets stolen, this enables the owner to lock or track it.
If a device is legitimately sold, the original owner MUST deactivate Find My iPhone before passing it to the new buyer. You, as the buyer, must ensure that this has been done. Do not buy a device where you have no hope of a refund if you find the lock has not been reset - i.e., don't buy from a stranger off the street, from Craigslist, or any other method where you cannot physically check the device before you buy it, or if you cannot get a refund.

  • IPod Touch 5th Gen will connect to computer and display in iTunes, but will not turn on

I've had my iPod touch 5th gen in a Lifeproof case and was taking some pictures, and lo and behold, the case seal leaked. I got water inside my case and immediately turned my iPod off and placed it in rice. After two weeks of drying in rice in a warm environment, I removed it and decided to try it out again. Much to my chagrin, my iPod would not turn on and could not be placed in recovery mode; I've tried to place it in both recovery and DFU mode, if only for some response, but nothing. It displays no screen image, no error message, nothing. It shows up in iTunes just as normal, with the name, and I can even view the sync menus for the device. However, I cannot access any pictures (my iPod has a passcode that must be entered first, and to enter the passcode I would have to turn the device on, which is so far impossible).
PLEASE HELP. Lifeproof will replace my case but not my device, and I have several weeks of photos, lots of music, and unsynced apps. (I know I should have backed up more recently, but life gets busy and I wasn't anticipating such a problem).

    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic. It could be that the water corroded the contacts so try to clean any corrosion from them.
    - Then charge overnight and try what you did before
    If still does not work:
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $99 for 16 GB 5G and $149 for the other 5Gs.. They do not fix yours.

  • How do I use ipod touch 5th gen w/my chrysler 300C rer radio/nav system

I have a 2010 chrysler 300C with a (rer) radio/navigation system.  I tried to use my apple ipod touch generation 5 via bluetooth and an Apple USB cable and it will charge with the cable, but no music from Ipod. aux button stays dim with both attempts.  Another site said a seperate device may be needed, but before I spend $90 plus install, I thought I'd check here first.

Problem solved.  After removing all the junk from my glovebox looking for port for my ipod to plug into, i found a cable(bought the car used).  the port is a 30 pin connector at the top of glovebox, next to the latch.  My ipod is a 5th gen touch with a lightning plug.  Must use a Apple converter, a generic wont completely seat.  Now I have to buy another converter for my docking station, but dont mind since ipod now works.

  • I bought a used ipod touch 5th gen and it's still connected to the old users apple id. what do I do?

So, I bought a used ipod yesterday and, while trying to set it up, it asked me for the old user's apple id and password. i don't have that1 What do i do?!

    Hi ZoeKeller,
If the iPod Touch is running iOS7, it sounds like Activation Lock may be active. You may find the following article helpful:

  • I am using iPod Touch 5th gen and my location services doesn't work.

When I'm in other places with wi-fi, the location services work perfectly; when I'm home, it doesn't work. What should I do?
Some forum says I need to register my point of connection using my ISP. Please tell me how to do it.

For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. You do not have to be connected to the network/router to use that router's location. Thus, it appears that the iPod can't see a nearby router that is in Apple's database. Apple continuously updated their database based on info they obtain from iPhones. No one has been able to find a way to inform Apple of a router or correct is location.

  • My ipod nano (2nd generation) will cont connect with windows or itunes, windows says it has had reported errors??? any help? havnt used ipod in over a week and now it wont work with my computer

my ipod nano (2nd generation) wont connect with windows or itunes, i used it last week (charged it through USB) then this week when i connect it (once again through USB) it wont work, it says "windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems" any help? ive made sure my itunes is up to date, done a reboot on my computer and ipod and still nothing..help please

This could either be a conflict with the iPod's docking port, the iPod's USB sync cable, or even the USB port you are plugging the iPod into on your PC.  So the first thing I would try and do is plug the iPod into a different USB port on your PC.  Make sure it's a high powered USB 2.0 port as they provide a higher power throughput than older USB ports or even the ones that are sometimes available on the front of the tower.
It might help to disconnected all other USB devices from the PC (minus the keyboard and mouse) and reboot the PC. Then reconnect the iPod once again.
If still no luck, swap out the cable with another known working cable to rule out the possibility of a damaged or faulty cable.
Lastly, plug the iPod into another PC to see if it's recognized there.  If the same error appears on another machine, it's likely a hardware issue with the Nano meaning you'll want to have it serviced or replaced.

The music does not belong to you.  You have no legal right to it and there is no way to keep it.
    Sorry

  • Is there a (relatively simple) way to skip tracks with an iPod touch 5th gen using a physical button? I'm aware songs can be skipped on-screen without unlocking the iPod, but I'm looking for a method that doesn't require taking my eyes off the road.

Is there a (relatively simple) way to skip tracks with an iPod touch 5th gen using a physical button? I'm aware songs can be skipped on-screen without unlocking the iPod, but I'm looking for a method that doesn't require taking my eyes off the road while driving. For that reason, I'm also not interested in adding in headphones or additional devices that have the desired button functions. Going both forward and back would be great but I would be pleased just to have a "sight-free" way to go forward.
I've seen some mention here and there about ways to maybe change it so the volume buttons change tracks and holding the volume buttons changes the volume... but I don't know what's involved in that or if its even possible/recommended for a new 5th gen iPod. I think its a great device but its sadly lacking in music oriented functions and features... which is disappointing since music is why most people would bother getting one instead of some other "iDevice" :/

Given that you cannot do what you have asked for, perhaps you simply need to find another solution to your root problem.
Presumably, you want to skip to the next track because you don't want to hear the current one, and that is because...
    You don't like it.
You've heard it recently and don't want to hear it now.
Simply don't want to hear it at this time.
For problem number 1. Don't put it on the iPod in the first place. (I know, obvious answer!)
For problem number 2. How about playing from a Smart Playlist (initially created in your iTunes Library) which has only songs you've not played recently?
For problem number 3. Hhhmmm! Create alternative Playlists for use in the car.
As for going back to the start of the "now playing" track.... Well, if your Playlist has only songs that you really, really want to hear, then you'll be looking forward to that rather go back to the beginning of the current song.
I'm not trying to be prescriptive, just giving you food for thought.
(They are all cheaper options than buying a car which can control the iPod from the steering wheel.)

My Ipod touch 5th gen is connected to wifi but internet doesnt work on it. It is showing full connectivity but when i try using itunes or safari, nothing loads.

Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
