Want to use Mac's for public access in public library -- NEED HELP please.

We have a grant to replace all of the computers in our small town public library. I would like to be able to consider Macintosh computers (would Love to, actually) but have not been able to find any information about how to do that.
Biggest issue is "access management". We have a system for PCs that logs on a patron by using their library card number and a PIN. That system then allots them an hour or two to use the computer, times them, warns them when time is running out and so on, and it also manages printer access and charges a few cents per page to print.
We need that for Macs. The software maker gets all attitude about "we have 2000 libraries with PC's and Zero with Macs." ARGH!
Help help help.
Also... please point me to anyone at Apple that knows what a public library is and would like to help us overcome this attitude problem.
We have a grant and can buy the computers. We just need some help to get it done.

Suggest you may be able to do this with the operating system itself. Apple Support has specialists you can request to speak to about how to setup such systems when you call them:

I've never setup such a system, but given that other features I've been able to ask about and get specialists to help me, suggest that's probably the most logical course to go.

This sounds like the age old problem with keychain & Safari. I don't know of a way to solve it without using something like 1Password.
The iOS app has it's own built in browser, so it has more control over what gets autofilled. Safari on OS X has an 1Password extension that handles account selection & autofill etc.
Keychain is great in principle, but it quickly falls down when you need tight integration with many ID's & different use cases (work, home etc).
I'd suggest you submit feedback to Apple about your thoughts. I did so years ago about this issue & this is how far we have come (back to the point where me.com synced passwords) :^)

Other tools like lastpass or keypassx may also help if you want to truly segregate password storage, but that doesn't fix autofill, the way around that issue is to dedicate one browser for work.

Leapfrog software wants to update my flash for me?? Security issue? Help please.

I'm trying to get Leapfrog software (a kids learing tablet, it requires me to install this software on my PC in order to install apps as it lacks internet connectivity) working on my PC. During installation it told me in order for the software to work, my flash needs an update. The Adobe site says my flash is up-to-date. I've had issues with this software before, it spread itself across a friend's computer and was so difficult to remove it bordered on malware. So, I just really don't trust this at all now: I think allowing this software to install "a flash update" could give it some kind of priviledges on my computer right? I find the whole thing quite insidious and only want to agree to this with assurance from someone "in the know" that I'm being paranoid Thank you very much for your help!

You're not paranoid. There are literally thousands of "fake" Flash Player updates that are all malware.
Here are the "real" ones:

Another user had success doing the following:
I got some help from an apple assistant on the phone. It is kind of round about way to get in.
Here is what he said to do and it is working for me...
a. on the device that is asking you for the security questions go to "settings", > "store" >
      tap the Apple ID and choose view"Apple ID" and sign in.
b. Tap on payment information and add a credit/debit card of your preference then select
      "done", in the upper right corner
c. sign out and back into iTunes on the device by going to "settings"> "store" > tap the
      Apple ID and choose "sign-out" > Tap "sign -in" > "use existing Apple ID" and you
      should be asked to verify your security code for the credit /debit card and NOT the
      security questions.
d. At this time you can remove the card by going back in to edit the payment info and
      selecting "none" as the card type then saving the changes by selecting "done". You
      should now be able to use your iTunes store credit without answering the security
      questions.
It's working for me ...I just have to put in my 3 digit security pin from the credit card I am using.

Of course there is. There is with any computer system that you connect to the internet or transfers files to and from. When you run Windows on your Mac you increase the chance from zero that you will get a Windows based virus to virtualy the same risk as any other Windows user.
The weaknesses in Windows OS and applications are well trodden by virus and worm malcontents the world over. That doesn't mean that OSX is exempt though. All it will take is once and the entire Mac world will sit up and take notice......

You have the display set in Extended Desktop mode. The Menu Bar and Dock will be on the MacBook display and your background screen on the monitor. In System Preferences>Display on the MacBook screen there should be an Arrangement tab when you have the MacBook hooked up to the monitor and both screens working. When you click the Arrangement tab do you see two monitors side by side? One of them will have a Menu Bar at the top. Just click on the Menu Bar and drag it to the second monitor. That will make the second monitor your main screen. You can now use your MacBook in Clamshell Mode with a wired or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131 When you disconnect from the monitor your Menu Bar will automatically change back to the MacBook.

You cannot do that. The AppleID you used to create the iCloud account is an active primary email address. The email address you created with the iCloud account is also an active primary email address (all Apple domain email address automatically become AppleIDs as well). You cannot replace the primary email address on one active AppleID with the primary email address on another, active AppleID.
You can use your iCloud email/AppleID with iTunes, but it will be a separate account, so all your previous purchases remain tied to the other AppleID you have.
I don't understand your statement that you could not remeber your old AppleID password, as you would have had to use it to create the iCloud account in the first place (the first step of creating the iCloud account required you to login with your existing AppleID and password)?

Caveat to the above: books that have a lot of pictures or graphics can be quite large; many megabytes. Then you can add the sizes up, figure out what else you might want on your iPad (movies, for instance, take up a lot of space) and determine what capacity you'll need. Ghz is the CPU speed and that is fixed for each iPad model.
The GB is the number of Gigabytes of storage.
I had a 32G iPad1 and filled it up with 5000 songs, 20,000 photos and about 50 apps. It doesn't sound like you will need anything larger than that. If you are just talking about a few dozen apps and email, the 16G version should be adequate.
