Want to use my Airport express to connect to my itune-air tune only.

I am travelling with my Airport Express to different countries, where I am not using it as a device to connect to the internet, but to connect my external speakers and want to enjoy my itune Air tunes.
I have had it set up back home, to connect to the internet and my external speakers.
Now, my Airport express is flashing amber, in the airport utility, I see my AirP Express, but I it takes forever to read base station configurations, so I can't make any changes.
All I need is to be able to use my itunes over my airtunes, using my Airp Express.

Ah - that fully explains what is going on.
In that case:
1. if you are currently on the road, you will need to do a hard reset of the Airport Express to return it to its default mode of a standalone base station. You will then be able to access it and configure it as necessary. And yes, the amber flashing light will persist. And lastly, will will need to reconfigure it from scratch as a remote base station on your home wireless LAN when you return home.
2. if you are home right now, read up on the use of the Airport Express stored profiles feature, to save its current settings as a remote base station. You can also create a profile for the Airport Express to function as a standalone base station for when you are on the road. Just remember to switch profiles before you hit the road. If you forget to switch profiles before going on the road, just do a "soft reset" of the Airport Express, connect to its default wireless network, and use the Airport Utility to switch the Airport Express to your previously saved "on the road" profile.

just installed a new time capsule and i want to use my airport express to extend my wireless range....time capsule working with existing devices at this time...but i am not able to get airport utility to recognize the airport express.....????

Temporarily connecting your AirPort Express to one of the Time Capsule's Etherent LAN <-> ports...as LaPastenagure suggests....is always a good way to setup and configure other network devices.
If you want to configure the Express using wireless, remember that the Express broadcasts a default wireless signal with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx. You must log on to this network first....no password is required....then open AirPort Utility to "see" the AirPort Express.

I do not need another wireless network but want to use the airport express for printer access only.  Can this be done and how?

You can configure the AirPort Expess to "Join a wireless network" and enable the Ethernet port so that Ethernet devices will be able to connect.
In order to print from the iOS devices, you will need to have an application like Printopia installed on your Mac. The Mac must be active when you want to print.
More details here: Printopia - AirPrint to Any Printer - Print from iPad - Print from iPhone ...
There is a free trial available for Printopia, so make sure that it will work before you buy the AirPort Express.

  • Can I use the Airport Express to connect to a Linksys Wireless Network and then use the Ethernet port on the Airport for a wired connection to a device for internet access?  Would I be able to then also use that Ethernet pt to a Ntwk Hub for more wired c

Thanks for the help.  Looked but not clear on what I am trying to do as being possible.  Can I use an Airport Express to connect wireless to a Linksys Wireless Router, such that I can then use the Ethernet ports on the Airport to either connected to a PC wired, or even use a hub off the Airport Express to allow multiple wired connections to it?
I am not looking to have the Airport Express extend my wireless network, just connect to it and provide me wired connections in a different location from where my Linksys Route is located.  Would prefer to replace Linksys with all Apple, but just not possible financially yet.  Thanks for the help.

If the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n model, then yes, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, the AX would join the wireless network provided by the Linksys router and its Ethernet port would be enabled for either a single wired device or for an Ethernet hub or switch for multiple devices.

Trying to connect my xbox to the airport express. Have wireless in home and do not have a ethernet point behind tv/xbox. How do I configure the airport express to connect to my wireless network and then the airport express can use its connection via ethernet to connect the xbox to the internet.

Is your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) a 802.11n model? If it is, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge or ProxySTA. This would allow the AX to join another wireless network and have its Ethernet port enabled for wired clients, like the Xbox 360.
To activate ProxySTA, you must set up the Express to join a wireless network and then enable the Allow Ethernet Clients setting; both settings are located in the Wireless tab of AirPort Utility.

You own an Airport Express and use it for Wlan?
If this is the case just connect to your wlan via the new Ipod touch.
    What you can't do:
Use your Airport Express without any connection to a dsl-line or another router that is connected to the net. It would be helpful if you could describe your complete setup.

  • Has anyone used an Airport Express to connect to a Yamaha Disklavier Piano?

Does anyone own a Yamaha Disklavier piano and have it connected to the internet using an airport express?

Just plugged my Airport Express into a power strip and ran the Ethernet cable to the back of the Yamaha E3 Disclavelier's Ethernet port. Used Apple's Airport Utility to verify it shows up on my network. You can then download the Yamaha Disklavelier App from the App Store and now my iPhone controls the piano. Super easy and way cool!

  • Just want to use my Airport Express for airtunes

I have a 2WIRE DSL wireless router/modem that is working just fine. I'm trying to add an Airport Express just to play Airtunes thru my home theater - not to extend my 2WIRE signal. Every time I try to set the AE up it fails on restart. Any one?

Let's double-check the steps necessary to configure your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to join your 2WIRE wireless network for iTunes streaming.
Either connect to the AX's wireless network or connect directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then using the AirPort Utility in "Manual Setup" mode, make the following changes:
    AirPort > Wireless
o Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network
    o Network Name: <existing 2WIRE's wireless network>
o Wireless Security: <select the encryption type of the existing wireless network>
o Wireless Password: <enter the existing wireless network password>
o Verify Password: <re-enter the existing wireless network password>
    Music
    o Enable AirTunes (checked)
o iTunes Speaker Name: <enter desired speaker name>
    o iTunes Speaker Password: (optional)
    o Verify Password: (optional)
o Click Update to write the new settings to the AX
    In iTunes:
    iTunes > Preferences... > Advanced > General
o Look for remote speakers connected with AirTunes (checked)

  • I want to use the Airport express to have wireless music through a home amp and speakers.

My problem is that I have a wireless router (from Telstra - Australia) on one end of the living room and then the stereo amp at the other. It is my understanding that the only way to connect everything is to have the wireless router plugged into the airport express and then the amp connected to the airport express my the rca cable. Is there another way as I do not want a rca cable running the length of my living room.
What i am trying to say is can the wireless router (from Telstra - Australia) talk to the airport therefore meaning I can have the airport sitting behind the stereo out of sight with no massive cables in my living room?
    Help please..

Yes, simply have the Express "join" your existing wireless network in client mode.

  • I want to use the Airport Express to play my iTunes through the house

I moved into a house that has speakers throughout the house.  The speaker cables from the speakers are terminated in one location in the basement entertainment area.  One thought is to hook up the speaker cables to a speaker selector to setup zones in the house.  However, I would like to integrate the Airport Express device to this.  It would be awesome to be able to play my iTunes library through the house.  I see that there is a 3.5mm output from the Airport Express.  Does anyone have a recommendation on how I might be able to set this up?  Do I have to buy a stereo receiver that takes the 3.5mm output from the Airport Express and then hook the receiver up to a speaker selector?  Any thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated.

One option is to get an AV receiver that supports both whole-house connectivity and AirPlay. You would connect all of your speakers to this receiver. The receiver would control which rooms get sound. In turn, you would stream from any AirPlay-ready device to the receiver. You can also substitute an AV receiver that does not support AirPlay directly. In this case, you would connect an AirPort Express to the receiver's digital optical audio port and send the streams to the Express instead.

  • HT1515 Can I use my airport express to connect a printer AND to extend my wifi network at the same time? Or one feature excludes the other? Thanks...

It is an Airport Express first gen.

Yes, the AirPort Express do all that you ask.....providing that it will be extending the network from another Apple router.

  • Using an Airport Express to extend a Verizon wireless DSL router? (Westell)

We recently switched our internet service over to Verizon DSL. The router they gave us is a wireless router. We have the Verizon network setup for both our computers to access it, but I wanted to use our Airport Express to connect our printer wirelessly and to extend the network. However, I can not get the Airport Express to join the Verizon network. Can anyone help with this? All I am getting is the blinking amber light on the Airport Express. I know the Verizon Westell router has its own WEP settings, which I have tried to give to the airport express, but it does not seem to be working. Very confused!!

Unfortunately, most non-AirPort routers are not compatible with Apple's implementation of Wireless Distribution System (WDS)...so it very unlikely that your Westell router can be extended wirelessly with the AirPort Express Base Station (AX).
The few non-AirPort brands that are known to work are:
    o Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not v5)
    o Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    o BT Voyager 2091
    o Netgear WGR614 v6
    o Buffalo WGR-G54

  • Can i use the airport express in my hotel with wired connection?

I'm going to be traveling quite a bit coming up and staying in hotels with wired internet connections in the room.  Can i use the airport express to connect with the hotel's internet connection and then my ipad and/or iphone 4S?  I'm new to Apple products so will certainly appreciate any info that may help.  Thank you!

You will need to have AirPort Utility installed on the iPad and/or iPhone. It is free on the App Store
    App Store - AirPort Utility
Connect the AirPort Express 802.11n to the hotel Ethernet jack using an Ethernet cable
Power up the AirPort Express and wait 40-45 seconds
Tap Settings, then tap Wi-Fi on the iPad
Tap the AirPort Express under the heading of Set up an AirPort Base Station
AirPort Utility will take a moment to to analyze the connection and then you can proceed with the easy guided setup
Once the AirPort Express is configured, you should not have to set it up again at the next hotel. But, you could if you want to.
