Want to use NO data, but Wifi?
Hi, new owner of the Curve 9300/3G, running OS 6.
I am currently on a voice/text plan, but have Data available (although I will get charged ridiculously on it).
So I want to use NO data, by all means. But I want to use Wifi when I'm at home.
I've read online that Wifi won't work if Data Services are off. Okay, so if I turn Data services ON, I can successfully use Wifi (facebook, email, youtube, etc.). Good. But now, when I take my phone outside, is it going to update my facebook, youtube, email, other apps, etc. by Data/3G? --> This is what I don't want, and what I am afraid of. This is why I haven't even begun using Wifi yet, because of the fear of the Data kicking in to update my apps while I am not on Wifi.
So, is there any way to keep data/3G off for good, and have no data charges? Is the only solution to not use wifi at all, and strictly use the phone for calling/texting?

Yes this is correct, you'll have to turn off your data services before leaving the house or your facebook, email, msn ect will still update.

iPhone do not do automatic update. You have to manually trigger the updates.
If your Settings > iTunes & App Stores > Automatic Downloads > Music, Apps, Books are ON then when you purchase any new content/item with any devices/computer iTunes, it will automatically download. Switch it OFF if you do not want that to happen. -
I have a need to enable Java Plug-in 6U20 6.0.200.2 in Firefix 19. This version of Java is disabled by Firefox by default since it has few security issues. But still i need that to be enabled. Do we have a method to do it. I do not want to use %Application Data%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<Random Profile Name>\pluginreg.dat file as this is created under a random profile. Hi David, Thanks for the quick reply. But i have already gone through the solution that you provided. My requirement here is to automate this. User machines are already installed with the Java 6 U20 which they need it anyway. When i install Firefox, this Plug in should be enabled to the users. I need to use some script / commands to make this happen.

My music goes to iCloud and I don't want to use my data to download it continuously. How do I keep it on my device and out of iCloud?

iTunes purchases are always on iCloud. They don't get uploaded there. They are simply there because you purchased them.
When you first purchqse, iTunes (computer or phone) should download them. If they are not downloaded, you will see the cloud icon. -

Want to use I cloud but can't open primary email address for verification process
Hi there, it's my first time to join the Apple community eventhough I have used Ipad for about two years I guess, n have loved it since then.
Well, I have problem, I want to use I cloud, but I can't as I have to give verification first by following the instruction from Apple which has been sent to my primary email address. The problem is, I have been unable to open my primary email address because I seldom use it. I use my rescue email address for all my email communication, instead. My question is: Is there any email address of the support staff because I want the staff to send the instruction for my verification through my rescue email address?
I have looked up the support page, though, and submitted question which I thought it was the best solution: I want to change my primary email address ( to the rescuer email address) but I was refered to the page " expresslane" which should have been the most convenient way, because all I had to do was just call n talk to the support staff. However, since I don't live in the US, but in a foreign country, talking on the phone is not convenient for me.
I would really appreciate it if any one can help me with this because I can't wait to use I Cloud. Thank you.

PS: sorry, I didn't fill out the operating system information n other details because I don't remember it n didn't try to check it out as I was afraid I might lose this message n have to retype all over again.Suzy this usually means your apple id primary email address was not verified when you setup your apple id. What you will want to do is go to appleid.apple.com and try and log in under manage your apple id, if it tells you its sent a verification email you can change that email to something else by clicking edit (this cant be your rescue email though) once done a new email should be sent that you can verify and then use icloud. Hope this helps

You cannot access iCloud with 10.6.8. If your computer supports it you could upgrade to Lion - you can obtain it by ringing the online Store at the number given at bottom left of this page. The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of memory
OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
7GB of available space
If you don't want Mountain Lion you probably won't want Lion either (of the two Mountain Lion is probably preferable) but it's either that, or stick with 10.6.8 and no iCloud. -

OK my family now has (2) Ipad2. Mine and my wifes. We do NOT want a second apple account but we want to use facetime. Both pads will ring like it is making a call but the other pad will not recieve the call.
I'm sure I'm not the only person with one account and two apple products. Can someone please let me know how to get these to ipads talking to one another so that while we are traveling we can utilize facetime?
Summary 2 Ipads both able to call out on face time but I cant seem to set up a call between them?No you do not need two Apple ID's. This is what I did on my iPod Touch and my iPad using my one and only Apple ID.
I used my Apple ID which is my main email address associated with my ID as the email address that I can be reached on the iPad so essentially all I did on the iPad was turn FaceTime on in the settings and let that email address be verified for FaceTime on the iPad.
On the iPod Touch I turned on FaceTime in the settings and then under - You can be reached for video calls at - I added another email address that I have with AOL. Then I went to the inbox of that AOL email address and there was an email from Apple with a link that I tapped on to finish the verification process. I can't recall exactly what it said, but it was very easy to follow the instructions to verify the address.
Then I went back to the FaceTime settings on the Touch and removed my Apple ID email address from - You can be reached for videos calls at ... You have to remove this email address so that you do not end up calling yourself. FaceTime will always revert to the first email address in the settings so that is why you have to remove the Apple ID email address in the one device. -
Want to use Time Machine but my external HDD is NTFS formatted
Discussions suggest install NTFS ng but download failed (I'm on satellite broadband)...I need to backup my Macbook before installing Bootcamp and then I can use Windows on my Mac. I'm a new mac user and have just switch platforms. I don't want to loose the data on my Mac OR format the external HDD which is the backup of my previous WIN machine.
What is best plan.. <?> get a new HDD to exclusively Time machine to OR install Bootcamp and hope for the best...?Lancer 10 wrote:

It's only 4 MB. Perhaps you should try again. If your satellite broadband can't handle that, perhaps you need something better, like 3G or dialup.

Time Machine requires HFS+ to work. It will create an HFS+ disk image when used with a server. For an external hard drive, I suggest you partition it into 2 volumes, one being HFS+ and the other NTFS. -
I bought an iPod Touch app and want to use it in my wife's iPod
I just bought an application from the App store and I want to upload it to my wife's iPod Touch. However, my iTunes account is different from hers. I read in the terms of sales that the app you buy can be used in up to five different devices. How do I upload the app I bought in my account to my wife's iPod (which has a different account)?

Don't want to use new Numbers, but 'get info' fix doesn't work

I made the mistake of installing the new Numbers a month or two ago. I don't want to use the new Numbers because I need to work on the same documents on older machines that won't work with the new Numbers. On my machines with both versions of Numbers, I want to be able to just double-click on the documents and open with the older version. The usual fix is to use get info on a document, select the app I want to use for this type of document and then hit 'change all' for that type of doc. Well that's the theory at least. I've found that this setting doesn't stick in this case. (I've never seen this not work). It still opens with the new Numbers.
I've tried removing Numbers, but Software Update keeps nagging that there is an update available jfor Numbers, and wants to reinstall it. They 'dumbed down' Software Update so that you can't remove updates you don't want to be bothered by. (I hate it that Apple continually removes features, then adds them back in a year or two!) So I'm stuck.
Any one else have this happen? Any fixes?
Thanks!Using Get Info to change all documents to open with Pages 4.3 doesn't work. The Mac OS will always default to the newest installed version & has for as long as I can remember. It will work on individual files, but that could be a lot of files to reset.
This is what worked for me. After I installed the new iWork updates I created a folder on an external drive & named it "Applications." I then moved the new iWork apps to this folder & renamed the applications Keynote 6, Pages 5 & Numbers 3. I have icons for two versions of Pages & Numbers (I rarely use Keynote) in my Dock. Even with two versions of Pages & Numbers running, double-clicking an existing file opens in Pages 4.3 or Numbers 2.3. This should also keep the Mac App Store from nagging you to update.
Since the last update I've used the solution Peter Breis posted (4th post in that thread) in iWork Tips 'n' Tricks with a little "tweak."
Making Numbers '09 the default whilst keeping Pages 5
1. Move any new iWork apps in another clearly labelled folder (I created a new folder in Applications & named it iWork 13)
2. Menu > Apple > System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy > drag the above folder into the list
2) Move the new iWork folder into the trash (temporarily)
3) Select any Numbers file in Finder > Menu > Info (cmd+i) > Open with: > Pages '09 > Change all
4) Re the new iWork folder from the trash (right-click > Put back)
Pages 5 should no longer appear as a default App, and you won't have to keep a copy in a separate drive or dmg.
IMPORTANT: Make a note of where and how Pages was installed for the next App Store update and temporarily move it back there before putting it away again in the folder concealed from Spotlight. -
I was not using the master password provision but have decided to. There are a number of sited where I told Firefox not to save the password. I have since changed my mind and want to use the master password. There are no sites listed as exceptions in the options/tools/remember passwords for sites/exceptions.
How do I get Firefox to remember passwords for sites I had previously to it not to remember?If it is not in the exceptions list you should be able to go to that site again and type in password and it will ask you if you want to save it.

I don't want to use iTunes 7, but have 2nd gen shuffle.
I have a 2nd gen shuffle that says I need iTunes 7 to use it.
I only want to use 6.0.5.
Isn't there a way around this?From what I understand volume Logic is working on a update for itunes 7 for windows.
I don't know of a perfect peice of software personally, but I hear real player can handle most ipods, might try that OR goto iTunes 7 and install a updated volume logic plug in for windows when it becomes avalible
