Want to use PowerBook G4 as a server

How to use my PowerBook G4 as a server? and how big the HD need to available? Thanks for help!

The stock drives were both SMALL (In capacity) and slow.
If you really want to do this you need to look at upgrading your harddrive to a high capacity model like this
http://www.ifixit.com/Mac-Parts/PowerBook-G4-Aluminum-12%22-1-1.5-GHz#0-HardDrives+PATA
You then need a fast ethernet network for file transfer because your G4 Wifi is 802.11G and not the latest Draft N standard.

  • WANT TO USE M1217 printer on fax server but modem driver could not find

    Dear All
I want to install HP Laserjet M1217 MFP on Window Server 2012 r2 and Use on windows Fax and Scan utility.
but i think i need modem driver to use on this utility.
therefore i need assistance  how can i use this dvice on Fax server.
    best regards
    Owais Farooq

    Hello Owais Farooq,
The Windows Fax and Scan allow faxing with a Fax modem card installed on your PC, it does not allow using a such with the HP Device.
The HP M1217 allow sending and recieving faxes from the computer through the HP Software , not through the operating system software.
Regardless, the M1217 is compatible with Windows Server 2003 or 2008, it is incompatible with Windows Server 2012, as well any digital fax capabilities as faxing from / to the computer are only supported on a client operating system, not on a server.
For a server only basic print and scan drivers are available as you may find in the user guide of the printer:

  • Please help, I want to use my TC as media server

I have a TC 1TB and I have three Macs at home, I want to copy all my music (iTunes), photos (iPhoto) and video on the TC and share it with all the Macs, and when some one add a photo, song or video the other can see it too, and don't have to duplicate the files, so how can I do it, specially with iTunes

    1) connect TC to your network and make sure you have no network problems
    2) use Disk Utility /Disks/File Sharing to set up the TC; check box share and wan and how you want others to share your TC
    3) use Finder preference to check box "show connected servers on desktop"
    4) use Finder GO command to connect to server
    5) in the blank window type afp://10.0.1.1 that is the ip address shown in Disk Utility for your local network...you could also connect over the internet using the ip address shown under Internet.
    6) once TC is mounted, copy your files to it ; do not use TC as your sole backup.
    7) launch itunes and use the "add to library" command; this points itunes to the source of the files
    8) just make sure you mount the TC before launching itunes each time.
    9) only one Mac is going to stream files from that TC at a time.

  • Taking XHTML class I want to use .MAC account as the server

I'm looking for the answer to these questions :
    Server Details :
    FTP server Ex: ftp.example.com
    Protocol : FTP or SFTP
Is .MAC an FTP or SFTP ?
and what will the address look like ?
    iMac4,1   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

For this purpose, you will be copying your HTML files to your iDisk. On your iDisk, the folder named "Sites" is going to serve as your root webserver directory. Whatever you put into iDisk/Sites/ will be accessible by the following URL format...
    http://homepage.mac.com/username/sitefile
In other words... If you put an index.html file into iDisk/Sites/ then your URL would be...
http://homepage.mac.com/username/index.html (or you can leave it off by default)
If you have several HTML projects, just put them in folders inside iDisk/Sites/. Access them like so...
    http://homepage.mac.com/username/foldername/index.html
To upload files to your iDisk/Sites/ folder, you won't be using FTP (read: You can't use FTP). .Mac uses WebDAV. On the Mac, it's pretty easy to mount your iDisk using Finder>Go menu>iDisk>My iDisk. On the PC it's a little more convoluted... You can either map the iDisk as a network drive by accessing "http://idisk.mac.com/username" or you can use the Apple iDisk Utility for WinXP that can be downloaded here...

  • New iMac to replace older mini, want to use mini as a print server

I am waiting for the delivery of a new iMac 2.9 GHz. I have a '11 vintage mini. I want to leave the mini connected to the router and printers but without a keyboard and monitor. The mini is set to share files and printers. The new iMac will be added to the wireless network along with the MacBook Pro. I think this setup will allow the mini to continue to be a node for the printers. Is there a problem keeping the mini on and not have a monitor or keyboard attached? I can always reattach a monitor and keyboard periodically if needed.

Shouldn't be. Here is how to simulate a monitor if need be.

  • How can I use mac pro as a server?

I want to use mac pro as a server which 4-5 people can use it at the same time.
Our computers are all macbook or iMac.
I want to share files when I edit videos and photos with my coworkers at a time.
    1. Can we connect each mac to mac pro and share our files as a big memory storage?
    2. And what can we do with this sharing system as a server?
    3. Lastly, how can 4-5 macbooks/iMacs connect to mac pro? Airdrop or other network exists?
    Thank you for reading!

The short answer is: no, they can't use the server as a compute server.
That's not quite true, but setting the server up in this way is complicated.
A single user could log on to the Server via screen sharing, assuming that was enabled for them, but only one user at a time could do this.
Many users can log on to the server simultaneously using the command line (using the Terminal and ssh) but they would not have access to any graphical applications, just UNIX command line programs.
There is also a distributed system called Xgrid that ceased to be distributed or developed since 10.7, that allows you to set up particular compute tasks on the server. However, this is not at all like running Photoshop on the server instead of the local machine.

  • I want to use hibernate with the tomcat

I want to use hibernate with the tomcat server can it be possible and if yes then what is the stepwise way.
Infact I know the java JSF but want to command on Hibernate plz help me.
    I'll be thankful to you.

To be honest, I wouldn't even know where to start. Do you know what Hibernate does and how it works? Do you know how Tomcat works? All you'd need to do to combine those two would be to let Tomcat provide the DB connections for Hibernate, I suppose. Neither of those products are a topic of this board though.

I want to use the Web module to publish to the a website... What kind of server do I need to be able to publish my website?

You don't need a server, you just need a web hosting package such as the ones from GoDaddy or many other hosts. You then send the web gallery directly from LR to your web space.
As you're asking such basic questions, it might be best if you read articles like this and see if a friend or colleague can get you started.

  • I want to use a mac mini as a server supporting storage. Can I pair my macair to it for when I need to perform updates and maintenance ?

I want to use a mac mini as a server supporting storage. I have other devices such as an iMac and iPad that will access information from the server. I do not want to purchase a monitor and keyboard as the unit will sit in a cupboard out of sight. Can I pair my macair to it for when I need to perform updates and maintenance ?

I have a 2010 Mac Mini running Yosemite and Server which I use
    as a headless home server.
I have is set up to allow screen sharing and can connect to it and
control it with my iMac, Macbook Pro, iPhone, and a 2011 Mini Server
that I use as an HTPC.
You can check this out for all the Yosemite Server capabilities:
    https://help.apple.com/advancedserveradmin/mac/4.0/
I have iTunes Home Sharing set up on it and have my entire iTunes
library on it.  I can then use any of my Macs to play Movies or Songs
from it and only keep locally a select subset of that on my individual
    devices.
Rather than and update server, I utilize Server's Caching Service.  The caching
server will duplicate any update download (system or MacApp Store purchases)
any time a device that is connected to my network down loads one.  The update will
then be stored locally and all other devices will download the update from it which
can be faster than from Apple directly.  This has the advantage of only having to download
once with limited bandwidth internet connections.  There is also an Update Server service
available, but it is some what more involved in setting up.  However, it will download
    and store all available updates.
There is another thing as well if you do not care for syncing things like Contacts, Calendar, etc.
to iCloud, you can set Server up to sync these items across devices locally.

  • I want to use the SQL Toolkit of NI and SQL Server as my databasis on a server. Do I need to install a client in each computer I want to handle the data into SQL tables or I need only a ODBC driver?

I want to use the SQL Toolkit of NI and SQL Server as my databasis on a server. Do I need to install a client in each computer I want to handle the data into SQL tables or I need only a ODBC driver?

You only need the ODBC driver on each computer. If you are distributing the SQL Toolkit app as an executable and do not install the whole toolkit on each computer, you'll need the SQL Toolkit support files. This is about a dozen files. You can get the list at http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/websearch/b814be005f9da9258625658700550c75?OpenDocument.

  • I want to install Snow Leopard Server on our MacPro (2.66) using Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server disks?  I kept getting an error for backwards compatibility.   Is this possible or do I need to purchase another copy of Snow Leopard Server?

I want to install Snow Leopard Server on our MacPro(2.66) using Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server disks?  I kept getting an error for backwards compatibility.   Is this possible or do I need topurchase another copy of Snow Leopard Server?

The OS disks that are shipped with a particular product
are set up so that tey will only install on that product.
It will install on any Mini of that exact vintage, but that
    is all.
This is to prevent people from doing exactly what you
are trying to do.  The license for OSX shipped with any
is only valid for that product.  Also, Snow Leopard,
including Server, is only permitted to be run on one
computer at a time.  Bottom line, unlike Lion, legally
you cannot install the same copy on multiple
computers unless some "family pack" or site license
    is purchased.
Yes, you need to purchase another copy.
The copy of Snow Leopard license is here:

You need a network connection and a product such as ScreenRecycler. All such products require a bootable OS on the iMac.
