Unfortunately I don't have my Macbook Pro with me to try this. My wife is using it for her business trip.
But I would like to install a shared Windows printer on the MBP. Will Leopard ask me for a driver?? If so, which driver is it asking me about? The Windows Imf file? The mac driver for the printer?

You must use a printer driver for the Mac and a printer driver for the Windows machine. The driver must be for the printer that will be used. Printer sharing must be activated on the computer to which the printer is connected unless it is a network printer connected to a router.

Well as I suspected I love OWC company I pulled out the mac hard drive , they offered me a Macdrive free trial program to check your drive on PC Windows and yesSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS it all there nothing lost

Shared Print Driver (Fuji Xerox)

Hi guys,
I deployed 7units of Fuji Xerox Multi Function Printer.
Current OS 2008 R2. basically i share out 7 drivers 5 unit is running same driver. Users able to map to 4 unit. 1 of the shared printer driver unable to connect when i \\servername and double click connect it just state installing drivers next it prompted
unable to connect.
Any ways to tackle the issue? Which area should i look at..

Send a list of the drivers installed on the print server. Use PrintManagement.msc and export the list of drivers from the utility and copy the list back here.

Resolved. I try restart print spooler doesn't work, i restart the whole server than it works. Just curious what went wrong.

I purchased a 1 TB WD passport drive, formatted for Mac. I set it up originally (mistakenly) to backup time machine. I went back and set it to "do not backup" It still backs up evey document I edit. If I add a document when the drive is disconnected, it automatically adds it to the external drive the next time connect to the passport drive. If I remove a document the same thing happens.

Do not backup your startup volume to another partition on the same drive. If the drive fails you have nothing. Always backup to another drive or volume on another drive.
The I/O error usually means there's a problem with the drive. Clone ASAP, then repartition and reformat the main drive. Then restore the clone. Here's the basic process:
You will have to backup your OS X partition to an external drive, boot from the external drive, use Disk Utility to repartition and reformat your hard drive back to a single volume, then restore your backup to the internal hard drive.
Get an empty external hard drive and clone your internal drive to the external one.
Boot from the external hard drive.
Erase the internal hard drive.
Restore the external clone to the internal hard drive.
Clone the internal drive to the external drive
Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager appears. Select the icon for the external drive and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After startup do the following:
Erase internal hard drive
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your internal hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Do not quit Disk Utility.
Restore the clone to the internal hard drive
Select the destination volume from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the internal hard drive. Source means the external startup drive.
Note that the Source and Destination drives are swapped for this last procedure.

Not with Aperture. You have to use the new Photos for Mac, if you want to print a square book with Apple's Print services.
You could collect the images you want in the book in an album, export the albums a s a new Aperture library, open the album Photos, and create your book.
Or create a custom book in aperture, print the pages of the book to JPEG, import the jpegs to Photos and use them as full page photos to create a photo book in Photos.

Printing dark when using shared printer

I am having problems getting Lightroom 2 to print correctly when printing to a shared Epson 4000.
When printing to the 4000 as a local printer everything works as it should. But when I try to print to the same printer, with the same settings as a shared printer in a small network the prints turn out too dark and with colour casts.
Using epson profiles and pointing lightroom to the correct profile. Setting printer driver correctly (when i print the from photoshop CS2 it prints correctly, even when using a shared printer).
Epson 4000 using the latest 3.09 driver. OSX 10.4.10 on imac G5.
Any help appriciated, strange that everything works great on a local printer but not on the same printer when shared over the network (printersharing in OSX)
Am certain I have profile selection and printer driver settings correct ( after all it works from photoshop and locally).

Thanks for reporting the problem. You mentioned that page content is getting shifted by around 3/8 inches when printed using Mac Airprint using Acrobat which resulted in clipping of some of the content and other applications print fine.
Could you please pass on the same pdf to me as well? Although, it doesnot look dependent on any particular pdf but I would like to analyze certain behavior with the pdf you are using.
Please also confirm that you have not printed with "None" pagescaling option when you observed this.

Printer driver question

Decided to try printing from an Epson R300 I haven't used in a year or so. Printing from a Macbook Pro and Aperture. Looked terrible. Washed out, strange margins, just wrong. Went into System Pref>Printers and Fax and checked the printer profile. It was Gutenprint 5.1.3. Think this comes as part of Leopard but not sure. I tried downloading the latest drivers from the Epson site but they never show up. Then downloaded a Gutenprint uninstaller but as far as I can tell it uninstalled nothing. In other words all of the gutenprint profiles are still there. I had hoped I could then install the Epson drivers I'm trying to get to the point where I can use the Epson printer drivers but not sure what else to do. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks, Jim

As to the Gutenprint 5.1.3 drivers included with Leopard. There is a known problem with that version of the drivers and Leopard. All Epson inkjet printers will print in Draft mode unless specific resolutions are set.
You are correct that the latest Gutenprint uninstaller will not remove the Apple supplied Gutenprint drivers on Leopard. If you want to delete the Gutenprint drivers, please use an older version of the uninstaller. Version 1.2.4 can be downloaded from _http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/files/Uninstaller%20-%20Mac%20OS%20X% 20ONLY/gutenprint-uninstaller-1.2.4.dmg_. Alternatively, you could download and install the latest version of the Gutenprint drivers from _http://gutenprint.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php_. You can just install this latest version on top of the version 5.1.3 already on your computer.
You should not have to download any drivers from Epson. The Epson drivers should have been installed as part of a standard Leopard installation. If you installed downloaded drivers on top of those, you may have corrupted the previously installed drivers. Go to the Library folder at the root of your hard drive. Find the Printers folder. Delete the Epson folder. Then insert you Leopard install disk. Find the folder for Optional installs. Install the Epson drivers as a customized install. *NOTE: Do not boot your computer from the installation disk.* Just do a customized install of the Epson printer drivers.

Leopard shared printing driver problems

When using USB printers shared on a machine running Tiger, the page orientation settings in Adobe applications don't work properly when sent from a machine running Leopard. Is this a known problem?

There is a known issue with the EFI (Fiery) print controllers and the Adobe CS2 and CS3 suite, where the second and subsequent pages of a landscape document will print in portrait, with the content still in landscape and consequently running off the edge of the page. EFI released a driver update to resolve the issue, after spending many weeks stating that it was an Adobe problem.
As for your setup, I am not aware of a problem with a Tiger USB shared printer when printing from Leopard. But then we mostly print from the Adobe suite via Ethernet - not USB - and certainly no sharing between Leopard and Tiger.

I want to use external hard drive connected to airport extreme that contains iTunes library to airplay library to apple tv

I have a macbook 4.1 with 4gb ram running lion. I have a 3 tb external drive that i use for time machine bakcups and a partition for my itunes library. When I want to watch a movie I connect the external hard drive to my macbook, open itunes and airplay it to my apple tv. However, this solution is not optimal because I lose the use of my macbook when it has to be connected via usb to my hard drive.
What I want to do is be able to watch a movie on my apple tv via my external hard drive wirelessly.
I realize that hooking up an airport extreme to a harddrive for time capsule purposes is not supported and thats fine.
However, will this work for the purpose of airplaying itunes library to apple tv.
Also would this work with most other wireless routers that support external hard drives? Not asking for specifics here, because i know no one can know every device. But is there any technical problem that would prevent it.

Yea I'm just going to wait for a solution I like better. The easiest way would be for apple to have some kind of itunes server software. Theres no reason that my computer running itunes shouldn't be able to communicate with with hard drive wirelessly just as it would with a usb cable. Kind of like wireless itunes synching with my iphone.
I don't want to use Itunes match because music is not my concern. It is the 1,000 movies that I want to watch on apple tv without tying up my laptop.

I'm pretty new to macs. I've set up time machine on my kids macs using a time capsule without problems.
Ive now bought my own mac and want to use time machine to back it up but only have a network hard drive to do it on. When I go to choose disk, I'm not given the option of the drive. I can see it in finder ok.
Is this possible?

There's more to it than a "party line." Many folks who have started this, and thought it was going well, found it wasn't as reliable as they thought.
From a post in another forum (found by V.K.):
*The technical reason why Apple limits Time Machine to 10.5 AFP volumes appears to be to prevent disk image corruption. There were additional features added to AFP in 10.5 to support Time Machine. These presumably allow the disk image engine to force disk image journal data to write out all the way to the disk. Without such features, a network interruption can result in a corrupted filesystem on the disk image despite journaling. Remember, journaling relies on the journal being written all the way to disk before the changes take place. If you can't guarantee that (e.g., because of network/NAS buffering) then the journal is useless. Time Machine appears to rely heavily on disk journaling to deal with network drop-outs, interrupted backups, and the like. Take this away and your data is at risk.*
*If the NAS you are using supports these features it should report them to the OS and you should natively be able to choose that volume. If you have to trick the OS to use the volume it means the NAS does not support it.*
*To summarize: if you care about your backup data you should avoid using non-natively supported AFP servers.*
That only addresses Leopard, of course. Snow Leopard seems to have some additional requirements, that don't work with some NAS solutions that did work, to a degree, with Leopard.

Image Shifts When Using Shared Printer

Printer: Canon Pixma 4800 ip4800
As far as I know, all drivers are up to date.
Printer is connected to an iMac and is set to allow sharing.
When printing a .pdf from another Mac (wirelessly via AirPort), the image is shifted slightly (approx 3/8") to the right and down on the printed sheet, cropping content.
All other remote printing is OK (including from other Adobe CS5 applications). I can also remote print the .pdf correctly using Apple's Preview application. Printing is also OK if printed from the iMac that the printer is connected to. Only time there is an issue is: Shared printing a .pdf using Acrobat.

PDF Quality using PDF Print driver on Mac v FMP on PC

We’re having an issue that I hope you can help us resolve. When creating the same PDF document on a MAC v PC using Adobe PDF driver built into the Filemaker Pro we are getting a drastically different quality of document. Originally I assumed it was the original PDF driver installed on the PC itself since it was an off brand “LITE” version so I had the user remove all other PDF software and start from scratch with acrobat. Still getting the same results. I have no idea if and where quality settings would be found on the PC or in FMP to check those…

The client downloaded the trial version of Pro X, to verify that the form works before buying. Would the trial version impose restrictions?
The client does not want to store data on a server. He wants the form to function as a template that he can save-as to customize. The completed forms will be shown on the computer as a part of a presentation, sometimes without Internet access.
I tried using the Advanced > Extend Form Features options to enable to ability to save form data, but when I tested the PDF on my PC (Vista, latest version of Reader) I got an error message along the lines of "this document has been modified from previous version, please get a copy of the original" and all form fields are gone.
I'm currently downloading the trial of Pro X so I can test the PDF.
I am also using a Javascript to allow the client to place photos in the document. This is achieved using a button with a Javascript attached to it: event.target.buttonImportIcon();
This works correctly in my environment, but could it be screwing up the file as it's opened on a PC?

FM 10 crashes while using Adobe printer driver

We are expereincing regular crashes while attempting to use the Adobe PDF printer driver.
We are printing to postscripts file, and then distilling. Most of the time FM crashes at the first file in the book, regardless of which book we attmempt to use.
Is there a different driver from Adobe that we should use?

Well, first, make 100% sure the XP patch for all XP printers is installed. There are a large number of threads in the forum that give the details, but this Microsoft Hotfix is the baseline -- if you don't have this installed, you're likely to have problems that it fixes.

I just bought and installed Lightroom on My MacBook, it has a tiny HD and I was hoping to use an External HD for storage of photos.
Is there a trick to setting up the external HD for storage?
Should I of put the catalogue on there rather than the Mac HD?

My Macbook won't start, and I must reinstall the disk. I haven't used time machine to back up, and I want to use an external drive to back up now. How can i do this from the utilities page?

I am currently in Zambia on missions work and my computer is constantly exposed to heat. I have just been trying to avoid using it during the hottest part of the day. Today though, I started it up and it was stuck on the grey page with the rotating circle for over an hour, then once the circle left, it remained frozen on the gray page. I used command + r at startup to go to the utilities page to analyze the disk. It found that there were problems with the disk, but then it could not fix those problems and told me to backup as much information as I could and reinstall or redo it all. I haven't ever used time machine to back up any of my information, but i have an external drive that I can use right now to backup my files. I can't get into my computer though to backup the files. How can I use this external drive to backup my files while the computer is currently messed up? Please help.

Emergency Backups (Data Recovery)
A)          Format an external disk:
          (This will erase all data on the external disk.)
          Boot in recovery mode (power then Command-R).
                    Alternative: Network recovery boot (power then Command-Option-R keys)
          To format (and erase) the destination recovery disk:
          Plug in the drive you are about to erase.
          Select the volume that is NOT your system disk.
          Click on Partition.
          Pull down under Partition Layout to 1 Partition.
          Click on Options…
          Select GUID Partition Table.
          Name: Emergency Backup (or whatever you prefer)
          Format: Select Mac OS Extended (journaled)
          Click Apply.
          Click Partition.
B)          Try to boot in Safe Mode (power then Shift key).
          (This will be a slow boot. Be patient.)
          If it won’t boot in Safe Mode, jump to C.
          If it boots in Safe Mode, try to boot in normal mode.
                    If that fixed your problem then start a Time Machine backup.
