WANTED Bendigo secondhand 13" Macbook for secondary school student

Hi Folks, we are setting off travelling and my daughter will be doing some VCE subjects. We hope to get a secondhand macbook to carry the info, be light and versatile. Good battery capacity necessary.
Firstly anyone willing to part with theirs??
Also any recommendations of what to llok for/reputable secondhand dealers??
We are mac people but wonder about transferring software from PowerMac OXS 10.5. 8 or if secondhand laptop comes with software how do I deal with the software licence ownership transfer??

I think it's really cool that college students get discount for spotify but it would be great if high school students could get the same thing , it would be amazing to being playing music wherever we want for a low price and since I find spotify better than pandora. $5 is extremely affordable for high school students and a lot would sign up for that price if that was an option

I am 17 and currently attending highschool as a senior.
I agree 100% $9.99 per month is kind of steep when you have a $9.10 /h job and paying for gas/insurance/food/housing/etc... I don't have anything handed to me at all. Sure my parent's will buy me a see's candy once in a while, but I am paying for most of my things now. My job pays for ~~ 90% - 95% of my necesities. that would leave me short.
Here is a pitch:
Mind of a teenager ~ 10 dollars per month would add up to 120$ per year I use this.... that's a problem.

I would expect (based on comments and suggestions from friends and information of who I know as a highschool would also subscribe) expecting 30,000 highschoolers per small state and 50,000 highschoolers per large state.
currently to me it seems only 5,000 or 10,000 highschoolers per state own spotify. (most people lie about information on "free sites")

Creative Cloud is available as trial version for 30 days and almost all creative software is bundled with the Creative Cloud. Tutorials are included for each of the products on the respective sections of the website. The back to school promotion is for college students or teachers of any grade. The easiest way of thinking about it is that you have to be 18 to take part in pretty much any sort of sales promotion. That rules out most high school students.

Ipad vs. macbook for High Schooler

Have a kid in high school who wanted to buy a macbook and saved long and hard to get one, but then decided to get a pad since he can use it for documents. He also got a Touch for Christmas. I thought this was an ok decision because he wanted to save the difference for future expenses, and the rep at apple supported this. I would really appreciate informed feedback if this was a totally ridiculous thing for him to do (we can return it and get the book)if it's really a neccessity but after reviewing all of the tutorials on ipad, I think it will serve his needs. Help?

If he has access to another computer at home to which he can sync his iPad and do the real heavy work, and you, after educating yourself, think it will work, I'd say you're fine. It's lighter and has better battery life than a MacBook. I would never recommend it to someone who doesn't have another computer but as a portable adjunct, it's fantastic.

I am 12 and want a 13 inch Macbook for video editing and stuff I cannot do on my iPad.

I need a Macbook for video editing and stuff I cannot do on my iPad (flash web browsing, iMovie or Final Cut Pro for YouTube, small games, photoshop, Reaktor 5, etc). I was thinking of buying the MacBook Air 13" refurbished intel core i5 for $999. I can pay up to $1,300 so I was thinking of getting the 13" MacBook Pro with retina display refurbished intel core i5 for $1,260. But then I couldn't buy many accessories or AppleCare. I do not really want to buy the non-retina MacBook Pro because it is not as portable and I am only 12 but I don't know much about how heavy it is because there is no apple store where I live but this is why I came here. So which MacBook should I buy? (I am probably going to wait until the new MacBooks in June 2013)

Congratulations on your upcoming graduation and the really wonderful gift you anticipate from your parents. Unfortunately, I am unable to give you information about upcoming Apple products or promotions, as I honestly don't know.
All my purchased music, and games, and videos, etc are on the computer I am currently using. Is there a way to transfer all of it to my new MacBook I will be receiving?
If the computer you are currently using is a Mac, yes, it can be transferred. One of the difficulties with the new MacBook is that it does not have any firewire ports, which will make networking a bit of a pain, but it can be done. Post back after you have your new computer with specs and we will give you directions on how to do it.
And are they going to make a new Macbook? So should I wait?
While I do not have any specific information about upcoming products, it is fairly certain that Apple will be coming out with new products. Of course this is a continuing process so you can be waiting for a long time. I would, personally, go ahead and get one now, and that should certainly see you through college. By then who know what wonderful products will be available!

Best Macbook for a Biology student

Hi! I'll be attending college this year and as mentioned above, I'm an incoming Biology student. I'll probably do a lot of essays and some presentations and the only thing I do that's not school-related is watch some movies occasionally. So what's the best Macbook for me?

without sounding condiscending i would get the cheapest macbook you can find, probably a refurb from apple or some other reputable store.
by doing it this way you could have some warranty if something should go wrong.
for what you are going to use it for you dont need anything special, all macs are built to a high standard. i would look at the older aluminum unibody models, they are very sturdy and well equipped for what you need.

Flash for High School Student?

I am an animation teacher and we might have to switch from teaching a 3D program to teaching Flash. Is this a valid program to teach high school students animation? Is this only used for gaming or is it also used in the animation world? Any recommended website references?

flash is not a 3d modeling program.
it can be used to create 2d animation and to display 3d animation.
because of its animation capabilities, it can be used to create web, desktop and mobile games. because of its support for a programming language (actionscript), it can be used to create web, desktop and mobile applications.
and, my guess, is most games and apps use some programming and some of the drawing tools in flash.

How can I disable private browsing for middle school students on school laptops?

Hello, I work for a school district and one of the schools within the district is a digital academy meaning the students work completely with laptops. The grade level of these students range from 6th to 12th grade. We need to be able to install pulgins to block explicit content and then disable private browsing's ability to subvert them. They are working on laptops provided by the school with an ubuntu linux derivative running on them. the version of firefox is 5. I have tried the solution from http://kb.mozillazine.org/User:Dickvl/Private_Browsing_disable
and it works with firefox 4 but not 5. Please Help! No matter how closely a child is watched you cannot watch them all the time and parents as well as teachers need to know what kids are up to.

No you should not need to pay again, as Chrisp250 points out if you use the same account you purchased it with.

I am just wondering how to answer the Graduation date section of the Creative Cloud student discount of the full amount of software. I am a Sixth Form student studying A-Levels and would find it useful to have the Adobe Creative Suite programs on my PC but without the large cost. However I am stuck answering the question, "Graduation Date" as I dont know what it would refer to for a Sixth form. Help is much appreciated.

Which is better iPad or Mac for high school students?

I just took SHSAT and my mother promise me that I will get one that I wish if I get in. I did not want to waste that wish and use it on others wastable stuff. So I was thinking that Apple device would make great studying for me in High School. I have iMac but Macbook air is portable and ipad is portable. Both of them are really good. I don't know what to choose. If you can't decide as well, please suggest what should I get. And Please do not tell me I won't go in to spealized high school because I already have a lot of stress.
