Wanting mac pro quad pro but might have to get macbook pro

I am wanting to build a home studio and my funds that I had thought would be coming in are not as much as anticipated. I really want a desktop but they are 2499 and one of the macbook pro's is 1000 less. I will be getting logic studio and want to have absolutely no problems running it and I also want enough space on my computer that I don't even have to worry about it if let's say I start making mini movies and using logic for the soundtrack. Should I still hold out and just take my medicine and practice patience then get the macpro at 2499 or is there a macbook pro that can handle all that I need. As I said before I really want the desktop and if anyone could let me know if it would be wise to wait til I've got the funds or if there is a macbook that would do just fine for much less. My current laptops on it's last legs and dropped twice which is my why I'm wanting a desktop to keep it stationary and also it just seems it would be so much more powerful. Any help would be tremendous. Thanks so much

seattlecal,
Well, we first need to talk about which Macbook Pros would be suitable for your usage. The 13" Macbook Pro could and would run Logic, but there are some additional considerations that would make it less than ideal. IMO, its display is too small to accommodate the Logic interface. With all of the Toolbars, etc. you'll need to have open, the 13" display will be too limiting. Also, any of the lesser Macbook Pros without the discrete GPU will present a problem. You won't necessarily need the graphics processing power of the discrete GPU, but the use of a shared-memory integrated GPU could place a damper on what you can do in Logic. While it would work, I would recommend against any of the integrated GPU-only models.
So this leaves us with the $1999 model as your best "lower-end" choice for a Macbook Pro. Honestly, I wouldn't want to run any "pro" apps on anything less than a top-end 15" or a 17" Macbook Pro, myself. Again, it's a matter of scale and what would be most "usable," not one of meeting minimum requirements (All current Macs meet the minimum requirements).
Placed in this light, the iMac provides way more value for the money. What it doesn't provide is portability. If portability isn't an issue, the iMac is undoubtedly a better choice. The integrated graphics issue still exists, so my recommendation would be for the $1799 model (2.93 GHz). There would be no need to upgrade to a larger hard drive, since external storage will still be almost mandatory for audio work.
One more time, I'm going to stress that audio (and video) work always involves storage somewhere other than your startup volume/drive. Put another way, audio files are always created and stored on an entirely separate hard drive. With a Mac Pro, this can be a separate internal drive. Any other machine that will not accommodate multiple internal drives will require an external drive. Period.

i want to reset the password on mac 10.8.4m but i have selected the "allow the user to administer this computer" i have make test with utilities and than terminal... but doesn't work.

You have to boot to the Recovery HD, Command + r at startup, and from there use Terminal in the Utilities menu item and typ in Resetpassword. A dialog box will open where you can do that.

I am running 10.7.5 on an imac and I want to upgrade to Yosemite but I have no app store on my computer. Is there a way I can get the app store on my imac?

If you don't have it then you will have to reinstall Lion:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or Yosemite
OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it isthree times faster than wireless.
Then you can download and install Yosemite if your computer meets the system requirements:
    Upgrading to Yosemite
You can upgrade to Yosemite from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Yosemite can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.
    Upgrading to Yosemite
To upgrade to Yosemite you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Download Yosemite from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Yosemite is free. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

  • I want to buy a appleTV but still have a iphone 3gs. Will everything work as with a iphone4?

I really want to buy a appletv but still have a iphone 3gs. I want to know if everything will work the same as if using it with a iphone 4 (photos, videos, music etc.)

Speed might not be optimal, but you'd be best using home sharing from a computer and controlling your Apple TV with the Remote app anyway.
The direct answer to your question is yes, it will work.

  • I want to buy Photoshop cs6 but only have the option to download it, can I buy as a cd?

I want to buy Photoshop cs6 but only have the option to download it, can I buy as a cd?

Well actually it would be a DVD given the size, which is what Adobe used before they went to download. Most PCs and Macs have stopped shipping with DVD drives and downloads are the way to go, especially with fast connections.
If you open the Adobe .dmg file on a Mac, the installer actually mounts as a virtual DVD.
So  yes, better to download and save it to an external drive. If a DVD got damaged, you would have had to order and wait for the replacement disc to arrive. Now anything from CS3 to CC 2014 can be downloaded from Adobe, no replacement charges and no shipping.

I own the movies and I want them to stay in my iTunes library basically forever.
But in both cases the file name no longer shows in the movie list, so I don't know how to re-download it from the Cloud.
iTunes prefs > Store > Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.
This will show all your iTunes purchases in your library with a cloud icon down arrow. Click the icon to redownload or click on Play to stream without downloading.
Also see this , -> Download past purchases
and techncially, you don't "own" the movie, You simply have a license to use it.
Yet the first thing iTunes does when you hit the delete key is tell you that it will remove the movie forever from all devices and the library.
Actually, no it does not tell you that.
FYI: You should keep copies of all yoru iTnue spurahses as the labels/movie studios/copyright owners can pull their product at anytime and it won't be available to redownload.

My Mac has been stolen, but I have my iCloud account setup. The "find my mac" app has found the apartment block it's in, but I need an IP address for the police to go and claim it. Is there a way to see the IP address of my Mac through iCloud? I've tried to get the IP address through Gmail and Dropbox but no success. Is there any software that updates automatically that I could find the IP address through?

Shouldn't the IP address be on the box you bought the machine in? If you have the box, take it to the police as evidence that it's your machine. If I were you, I would set the firmware password when you get it back, but make sure you have the password written down in a safe place. If you forget it, there's only two ways to reset it. Either pay $400+ for the tool that can do it, or pay almost nothing for Apple to do it, I think it depends on where you live. The firmware password is this encrypted password and it can't be hacked either. The password prevents anyone from booting the machine into recovery mode, thus preventing them from restoring the computer to factory settings or performing any other functions. It's not stored in the hard drive so replacing that will be of no use either.
I hope you get your Mac back and I hope this was helpful!

Your options depend on which MacBook you have and the version of OS X installed.

I want to purchase an Ipad2 do I have to get a plan from AT&T or Verizon if I only want the WI-FI option?

No you can just purchase the WiFi only version of the iPad and not worry about the 3G.  Or if you buy the 3G just don't bother with a plan until you decide you want one.

I have a new MAC PC with an old IPod Touch that was synch to my old desktop, how do I get the new music on my new MAC if I might have had an old account?

The article in my previous reply said:
    - Transfer iTunes purchases from iPod to computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - For non-Tunes purchases you need to use a third-party program. Several are discussed in the link in my previous reply
    - Then to sync with the new computer after getting all synced media like apps and music on the new computer yo have to backup the iPod to iTunes and restore from that backup
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
