Wanting to make a high quality slide show

I have pse 5 and want to make slide shows. I know that I must save the show to .wmv.
Please give me some tips on making the best quality HD tv slide show using pse 5. I am primarily concerned with visual quality, not features such as a 1000 different transitions.
As far as VCD's go, are they capable of producing excellent quality, assuming a short slide show?
Or, will I have to get Premiere to get the best playback quality?
Lastly, do the stand alone slide show programs create better quality (not transitions, etc.) shows?
Thanks very much in advance.
Steve.

>As far as VCD's go, are they capable of producing excellent quality, assuming a short slide show?
simple and direct answer - NO
>best quality HD tv slide show using pse 5
How will you play back this slide show on your HD TV?
Do you have a Media Center configuration where you can play from your PC to your TV?
Do you have a DVD burner that can burn Blue Ray DVDs and a TV DVD player that can play the Blue Ray DVDs?
Premiere Elements does have the potential to give you better quality for TV playback from a DVD. More info and suggestions sort of depend on responses to those questions above as well as the specifications of your PC and therefore its capability to handle HD video.
EDIT - adding comment
If you want to pursue the Premiere Elements discussion, there is a forum at muvipix.com (a site started by some regulars at the Adobe Premiere Elements forum) that may be a better forum for this discussion.
>Lastly, do the stand alone slide show programs create better quality (not transitions, etc.) shows?
Potentially yes. ProShow Gold is a program that some Photoshop Elements users like for their slide shows. Hopefully someone who is using that software will post to this thread.

  • Best way to make a high quality slide show from still images

I know that this may have been asked before but i am trying to create a high quality slide show of my still images that will look great on a TV. I have tried imovie, idvd, and iphoto and i am not happy with the quality. i do own FCP. can anyone walk me through a way to create a high quality slide show and then burn it on IDVD.
    any info would be appreciated

i usually lay everything out in FCP. if you're going to use music or voice overs, lay down your audio tracks as appropriate. then cut all of the stills to you audio to get the timing just right. don't do any motion graphics in FCP. then, when you're satisfied with the cuts, send the entire sequence to Motion and do all of your motion graphics (grow/shrink, spins, throws, fades).
i find that all of the motion effects can be done more easily in the Motion application. this has been my preferred workflow for over a half-dozen slideshows now.

  • I want to make a copy of slide show create from my own photographs and with a an audio track behind them. I have carefully followed the iDVD tutorials and burnt the result to a disc but image quality is very poor. What is wrong?

I want to make a DVD of a slide-show with an audio track behind the photographs. I have carefully followed the iDVD video tutorials but the result is far from satisfactory. The quality of the images on the resulting DVD are blurred and indistict although the original photographs are of a very high quality. Where am I going wrong? Would I have better results from a different program than the inbuilt iDVD and if so so what programs have others found to be better? I should be grateful for some expert guidance.

    Hey Falcopebo,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
Looks like you have image quality issues when using iDVD to burn.
iDVD 7.0: Burned DVD has interlacing, pixelation, or image quality issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4078
A standard DVD made by iDVD is made to the standard DVD resolution of 720 X 480, which is smaller than most HDTVs and monitors. When expanded to fit the entire screen or monitor, the image will distort slightly due to upscaling to fit the screen or monitor.
    Have a nice day,

  • What is stepbystep procedure to make finest quality slide show in iMovie?

After spending many hours of trial and error, like many others it sounds like, and after much time reading through this forum I have concluded that maybe one of the experts on iMovie, and this recurring question, could come up with a step-by-step guide on how to prepare photos for a high quality slide show in iMovie starting from downloading the digital image from the camera.
I find myself very confused as to how to prepare the photos in Photoshop (step by step here would be great also - how do you format the photo, size, pixal ratio, resolution, RGB or CMYK, ) and how to import them into iMovie while maintaining the highest quality possible. Then how to export to or import into iDVD. I think anyone who is attemping to produce a slide show wants to end up with a visually pleasing final product. No jaggies or blurriness. It seems to me that there should be, from start to finish, a fairly simple guide that would make it easier for all of us.

Maybe it's me, but... scoobie... i don't think your reply has anything to do with her question lol. I believe she's saying she is having trouble figuring out how to do something, not that the program is crashing.
Anyway, I'm starting a similar slideshow project. I think it's easiest to simply edit the photos in iPhoto. Photoshop is on a different level from iPhoto and obviously has capabilities iPhoto lacks, but I think it should be fine for just editing digital photos.
One of the things you said was "how do you format... resolution"
I don't think iPhoto can change the resolution of a photo like photoshop can, but since you want to make the FINEST quality slide show I assume you'd want to scale the resolution up... and although photoshop can do that, I don't think you'll see a significant increase in quality. It won't look anything like if you had actually taken the photo at a higher resolution.
As far as importing pictures into iMovie goes, that should be pretty easy. If you click on the "media" button in iMovie, and then click on the "Photos" tab on the upper right of the window, it will display your iPhoto library the same way it would display it in iPhoto (organized by albums). You can then drag whatever photos you want to include to the "timeline" at the bottom of the screen.
I'm not sure what to tell you about pixel ratio and RGB vs. CMYK....
The last step, exporting to iDVD is just as simple as adding pictures... just click on the "Share" menu at the top of the screen and select "iDVD". What you do from there depends on what kind of final product you want... and I haven't actually used iDVD so I would just be guessing on that part lol.
Also, I suggest going here: http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/imovie/index.html and looking at the tutorial. I viewed most of the movies there and they were helpful.

I don't know about NTSC but there is a nice PAL solution for SD 16:9 for ordinary DVDs. The 16:9 image becomes 720x576 pixels. So the pixels are each quite wide, and the horizontal resolution is less than the vertical resolution, but at least no pixels are wasted as with letterbox.
A semi-solution is to make a HD-DVD. That format has been abandoned but Apple software pretends otherwise. Apple Compressor does compressions at around 20 Megabits/second data rate specifically for HD-DVD, and Apple DVD Studio Pro makes HD-DVDs. For short projects, less than around 30 minutes, the HD-DVD can be made on a normal DVD. (I did this for a 40 minute project by cutting the bitrate somewhat.) The quality is almost equal to Blu-Ray, but who can play it? People with well equipped Apples can.

  • A How To: Create a Widescreen High Definition Slide Show from the Organizer

[EDIT] I just tried another one and, weirdly, that produced an output with black bars around all four sides! So maybe this 'how to' is not 100%.  I have considered deleting the post altogether but, as it does still produce a superior slideshow quality file than the standard ones provided with Elements,  I've decided to leave it with this edit added at the top for additional info.[END_EDIT]
In answering a question in another forum I found a nice quick way to create proper widescreen high definition slide shows from just the Elements Organizer. Apologies if this is 'old news' to readers, but I've not seen this described elsewhere so I thought I'd share it.
The Organizer Slide Show creator, if not wanting to edit in PRE, provides a small set of Windows Media Player profiles to create .wmv files. But the best of these goes only to 1024x768 (a 4:3 monitor resolution setting). I've noticed, but never paid much attention to, that at the bottom of the Slide Size box there is a 'Browse for more' option that lets you search for additional Windows Media Encoder profiles. Investigation showed me that I can download the Windows Media Encoder software from Microsoft and create my own profiles. But even further investigation showed  me that someone had already done this! I've tested their full HD profile and it works just fine (1920x1080).
So if you are just after a straightforward slide show (i.e. not needing PRE features) but want it displayed on your Full HD TV set here is what you do:
Download the HD Profiles from http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/236895-hd-profiles-for-windows-movie-maker/. There's also a couple of useful SD sizes there as well. Save them somewhere you can easily find them.
Create your slide show in the Organizer. Obviously use appropriately sized images for HD. There's little point outputting an HD wmv file using low resolution and/or 4:3 aspect ratio images.
Save and Output your slide show.
In the output dialog ('Save As a File') scroll down to the bottom of Slide Size and select 'Browse for more ...'.
Browse to the file you downloaded in step 1 and click Open.
Click OK and your Widescreen HD .wmv file is prepared.
Here's a Gspot analysis of my test output file. As you can see it is an HD file with a 16:9, square pixel, aspect ratio.
    Ta Da!

You did not mention a specific Premiere Elements Elements Organizer combo for this, so for now I will address this from the version 11, not Windows Movie Maker, perspective if I need to get version specific.
    .prx
The Browse for More is a well known route and does offer at least one Adobe profile for 1280 x 720 16:9. I am not sure where you came up with the lesser resolution,1024 x 768 that you mentioned. The Windows Media profiles have existed for several versions of Elements Organizer. Those Adobe ones that you do not see under Output Save As A File Movie (.wmv), can be found in the Windows 7 or 8 64 bit path
    Local Disc C
    Profile Files (x86)
    Adobe
    Elements 11 Organizer
    Assets
    Locale
    en_US
    tv_profiles
in the tv_profiles Folder are included the .prx files
    .....10. 640 x 480 Enhanced Definitions
    .....12. 852 x 480 Widescreen Enhanced Definition
    .....14 1280 x 720 Widescreen High Definition
A homemade 1920 x 1080 16:9 30 frames per second .prx has long been sought but not that easily produced by many using with the Windows Media Encoder Editor. Apparently you have found one online, and it does get accepted into the Premiere Elements 11 Browse for More choices. And, if you do a gspot readout for the wmv output from Elements Organizer 11, it will display all the "right" properties that you hoped for and that are shown in your screenshot.
The bottom line, why bother with the wmv slideshow? If you take your original photos and size them for 1920 x 1080 16:9, use them in the Elements Organizer 11 Slideshow Editor (Crops used in preferences), use the Edit with Premiere Elements Editor command, what you get in Premiere Elements 11 is full and good in all regard. Have you tried it?
I can see your interest if this is HD going to HD (AVCHD on DVD or Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc, but I do not see this for an Elements Organizer Slideshow that is going to DVD-VIDEO widescreen.
    More later.

  • Creating a high definition slide show in FC ?

Just totally new in this field, I am asked to produce a high definition slide show to be presented on a cinema screen. iPhoto seems too basic, PPS or OpenOffice probably won't let me create a self contained DVD show. So FinalCut could be an option, though I don't know to what resolution limit. I have FC HD, but consider upgrading to the new version if this would help. Is it the way to go or should I rather consider an other program? I must say that so far I have no idea of the definition of the pro digital beamer, nor if a DVD is a good support or if it will limit the image definition. It seems to me that high definition video should produce sharp still images too even on a big screen, but no experience really. Thanks in advance for some hints!

I'm a bit of novice here. I love Keynote for its ease of use, ability to easily support .ai and .eps art, and its cool transitions. I know it can generate QuickTime output which you could then convert to a DVD using iDVD or DVD Studio Pro. However, Keynote won't let you do things like move the graphics around (e.g., no "Ken Burns" effect).
I'm a little curious about the DVD thing. If you are going to be projecting this, life will be a lot easier if you just project it from a computer, rather than converting it to DVD format, which is really designed for TV/movie type output, not multimedia output, e.g., text. FCP HD will produce HD output, but I think I am correct that there are no current players that support HD DVD (about to change with BluRay and DVD HD).
Answer is it really depends ... how fancy are the effects you want to show? How much time do you want to spend learning FCP or Motion (both have a long learning curve)? Will you be able to project this from a computer or must it play in a regular DVD player?

    Hi Mrs. Fooj,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The person who created the slideshow for you in iMovie could burn additional DVD's for you, or export the iMovie project to iTunes to create the file you need.
iMovie '11: Use your movie in GarageBand or other Apple applications
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2281?viewlocale=en_US
And this information is from the iMovie Help menu in the application:
To send your project to iTunes:
Select a project in the Project Library, and then choose Share > iTunes.
Select one or more movie sizes to render from the table of options.
    Click Publish.
Rendering can take up to several minutes depending on the size of your movie and whether you’re rendering several sizes at once. After the project has finished rendering, iTunes opens automatically.
Depending on how you plan to use the shared project, do any of the following:In iTunes, click Movies (below Library) to see your movie and broadcast it through Apple TV or sync it to iPod, iPhone, or iPad.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

I want to add music to a slide show but only let music play for a certain number or slides then a different song for the next set of slides...how do i do this?

    Hello Auchattie
What are you using to create the slideshow? If you have iMovie for your iPhone then you can add different music tracks for specific parts for the photos that you added for the slideshow. Check out the page below as it is the user guide to do create a slideshow as well as adding different songs and adjusting it to only play a small part.

What is best all in one printer for my new MacBook Pro ? Needs to make very high quality photos. Using USB connection.

That's a difficult one but I'd always go for HP as they make so many excellent models that you'll always be able to buy the cartridges from almost anyone.  Theyre darn good printer too.  I have four in the office here and one of them is a very neat flatbed with exceptionally high tonal qualities.  One of their cheaper models is the HP 5520 A4 inkjet all-in-one - CMYK.  Good value at £70 and 4800 x 1200 DPI.

  • I want excellent quality slide shows to dvd

I have been using iPhoto 6 to make slide shows set to music and then send them to IDvd to burn. After this process is complete, I am disappointed with the quality of the finished product.
I am a pro photographer who shoots raw files with a Nikon D200. I edit in Lightroom (sorry, not Aperture) and convert to full size jpgs with Photoshop. These are very good files in terms of sharpness and color, etc. The jpgs range in size from 2.5MB to 5.8 MB. This is not garbage in, garbage out. I then import them into my iPhoto library and build a slide show. When finished with transitions, effects, whatever, I send my project to iDVD for the finishing touches. I have selected the best quality and fomat for 16x9 wide screen TV. The show comes out just as I designed it, music works without a hitch. To view the DVD on my cinema display or wide screen TV, etc. the sharpess and quality of the images in the show are disappointing. Looks OK (just OK) from afar, but it seems like the quality should be so much better. Granted, my standards are high and I want this to be a professional presentation. Are these the wrong products for the quality that I desire? Are My files too big? (I doubt it) How can my projects reflect the quality of the images that go into them? If these are not professional products, what products might do this better?

I've found that creating the slideshow directly in iDVD gives me the best quality image when played. However, if I play a 4:3 aspect DVD project on my widescreen it doesn't look as good. But when I create the project in the 16:9 widescreen mode, it displays quite well on the widescreen TV as it's masked properly. If I crop the photos to the 16:9 ration the widescreen display is very good. Since the standard DVD image is reduced to 640 x 480 at 72 dpi, there's not much you can do to get a lot better. If you use the Ken Burns effect in iPhoto then you do want to have the largest image size possible so the zoomed portion of the effect is not reduced. As I recall the widescreen image size is 855 480 or so.
The reason I like creating the slideshow in iDVD is that it really is a slideshow. You can move back and forth slide by slide with a click of the remote. With the movie type it's rewind or fast forward.
