Wanto output video from FCP to tv-monitor..

I've been searching for an answere in this forum aswell as PD150 forums..
Please help, I think of myself as a logical person but just can't figure this one out.
I try to output the video signal from FCP to a tv-monitor usin a Sony PD150 in the middle.
That is; Firewire from my G4 into my camera, s-video to scart into my monitor.
I've been fiddeling with the camera settigs but found nothing that indicates signal in/out or likewise.
I know that this isn't a PD150 forum but i thought I could find someone experienced here.
Thanks for answeres in advanced, Erik

#8 External Monitor Viewing.
Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

    (1) Can the exported video from FCP X play in WMV?

No to both. You need third party software to create WMV. Telestream has tools for this.

  • Exporting video from FCP scrunches it.

When I export my video from FCP it gets scrunched. Imagine that you start with a square and you export it and it comes out like a vertical rectangle. It looks correct in FCPs image and wireframe box, but it is not correct according to the title safe boxes. When I play the exported video it includes black space on both sider of the video. What can I do? I set the Motion project presets to NTSC DV (720 X 480) and FCP sequence settings to NTSC DV (3:2) (720 X 480) and I don't have the Anamorphic 16:9 checked. How can I export this without scrunching or squeezing it?

    Welcome to the family.
You can only go through your settings very carefully, one at a time. If the sequence is DV, the clips are DV, and the export is DV, the resulting file will be DV. Our experience around here is this question is 99.9% user error caused by the fact that FCP's various settings are weirdly conflicting with common sense or other parts of the process.
Good questions to answer: Why are you exporting out of FCP and where are you viewing this exported file?

  • Outputing video from the MacBook Pro with Final Cut Pro

    Hi
I wounder if there is a BlackMagic card that can be connected to the new MacBook Pro - with FW or with ExpressCard 3/4.
I want to output video signal from Final Cut Pro to an external monitor, and to capture footage into the FCP.
    Thanks

Ditto-- I need to know the same thing. i want to view hd video from final cut on an external monitor. Does someone have an answer?

  • Problems outputing audio from FCP into a mini dv

    hi there
i'm trying to output a video with 2 diferrent audio channels into a minin dv through a camera. everything is fine during output but when i check the tape the audio skips and sometimes sounds a little bit squeaking. i exported everything as .mov and imported back into FCP. so im outputting everything already rendered.
does any one have an idea why this is happening?
    thank you.

Could definitely be a problem with the camera, but... the most obvious thing is that your output from fcp doesn't match the format on the camera. Make sure that both are set to 48k 16 bit and that your camera is recording SP.

  • No HD Video from FCP w/ QTP

I have filmed a series of videos in HD and edited them in FCP Studio 1 (this includes QTP). I have exported the videos and can play them with my PPC G5 Dual Core (10.4.11) in QTP.
The problem is when I transfer them to my Intel iMac G5 (10.4.11) there is no video only sound. Both computers have FCP Studio 1 that includes QTP. I have done all the nessesary updates.
I can play HD trailers from the Apple site fine.....any ideas?

I'm not 100% sure what codec is used, but I'm using the Sony Z1 HDV. Capture, edit and export a sequence (using current settings) When the video is played in QTP I have audio and no video, QTP says it can't play the video. But I transfer the same video to the G5 dual core and it plays fine and looks amazing in QTP.
I checked the advanced tab but the only options were for synth, transport, kiosk and to use older codecs (legacy)
We have the exact setups on both computers, same OSX 10.4.11, FCP Studio 1 and QTP 7.5.5. The only difference is PPC G5 dual core and G5iMac Intel.
I would think that FCP studio would supply the codecs and I wouldn't need any 3rd party software.
Of course I can play the video in FCP but I would like to be able to show the video in QTP.
    any ideas?
It must be an Intel processor problem!

  • IDVD behaving strangely with HDV video from FCP X and FCP 7?

AVCHD exported from FCP X as ProRes 422 works perfectly in iDVD producing a 16:9 DVD.
HDV doesn't, even though QT Player plays it perfectly.
The odd thing is that 4 years ago, using legacy FCP my exported HDV videos had no problems being recognised as 16:9 by iDVD.
So why are FCP X produced HDV videos not recognised as 16:9?
P.S.  I know that iDVD never recognised DV in the 16:9 format but it always worked with HDV.
Incidentally, the old trick of opening it in QT Pro and changing the frame size to 1024 x 576 does not work!
Even stranger, I have just opened the HDV clips in FCP 7 and exported them as a QuickTime Movie.
iDVD plays them back in the correct aspect ratio but look at the effect  .  .  .  .  muted colours and green patterns all over.
This never happened in the past!

I mentioned several problems so I don't know which one you are referring to.
After experimenting I found some workarounds.
To cure the squashed image I created a ProRes 422 preset in Compressor 4 with a frame size of 1920 x 1080 and exported from FCP X using Compressor Presets.
Everything now works perfectly except the encoding seems to take  longer.
I got rid of the moire pattern when using FCP 7 by exporting as ProRes 422 1920 x 1080.

  • How can i export lossless video from FCP for Episode Pro?

    Hi,
i am looking for a way to export videos from Final Cut Pro in order to use it in Episode Pro for further converting.
I know i xould use Compressor an just import the Episode settings into Compressor, but that's gonna obstruct my workflow and - to be honest - i hate Compressor.
So what video format is the best for this kind of project?
    Thanks,
    Heidi

If i do it like David says the titles are displayed with different fonts.
Unfortunately the source material is on an external Drive connected via Firewire 800 to a mac in the office next to mine. Our macs are connectet via gigabit ethernet.
    Something doesn't sound right.
First, If you render the Sequence before exporting it for Episode, it should not matter whether or where the fonts are installed. Are you sure everything is rendered?
Second, are actually saying that your are editing material in your Final Cut timeline that is coming in over a network connection in another office? You must spend an awful lot of time, drumming your fingers on the desk!
We export everything we do to Episode for conversion to Flash. It just works.

I'm guessing you mean 'How' To...
This may not be the way you want to go with your setup, but it works well for me.
I have a Canopus ADVC100 that I purchased at a reasonable off eBay. The newer version is:

Not only can you monitor while editing, but you can capture from any video device (digital or analogue) as well as export to any device..

  • MacBook Pro retina display goes black while outputting video through HDMI to external monitor??

I frequently connect my MacBook Pro to my 42inch Panasonic TV to watch movies/videos. I use VLC media player for all my playback. The problem I'm running into is that when I put VLC media player into fullscreen mode on my external display, my retina display goes black (I can still see the finder bar at the top and when I mouse down the dock appears but the rest of the display shows all black. If I click on Safari it will open but I can't see it on my MacBook display unless I take the external display out of fullscreen mode.
I would still like to be able to do things on my MacBook while video is playing. I've played around with the display settings but they're pretty limited and I can't figure out how to get it to work the way I'd like. I've seen people having up to 3 or 4 displays hooked up, I'm just trying to hookup one. I would consider this a severe limitation of OS X if I'm not able to separately manage the displays. Hopefully there is a setting or something I'm just not seeing. Thanks.

Yeah, fullscreen mode still doesn't play nice with multiple monitors. The common workaround is to stretch the window out to the edges of the screen instead of using actual fullscreen mode.

  • DSR-45 won't output Video to FCP 4.5

Video shows on the deck but not on the FCP/capture window. Time code runs and deck control works fine. We have uninstalled and reinstalled everything with no changes. 4.5 used to work until an attempt to upgrade to 5.1, which didn't work at all. We trashed all Preferences and remnants of 5.1 Thanks in advance for any help!!
    G5 1.8 DP   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Just for grins, try to capture a short clip in iMovie.
If that works it would appear you have a slightly bunged QT install. Often in upgrading the OS, QT or FCP for some odd reason QT will get knocked slightly off kilter. The usual solution it to force a full reinstall of QT.
    This is how:
Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
    Run the Quicktime installer.
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
    Reboot
    Good luck.

  • Will macbook pro output video to a 1280x1024 native monitor well?

My standard resolution monitor is bigger than the laptop display but has a different native resolution. Will the operating system still look good?

Your MBP will support the native resolution of your monitor, and the monitor will look as good as it ever has, but that setup is less than ideal for the following reasons:
Using the monitor in Mirrored mode will reduce the resolution of your Mac's built-in display, making that look lousy, and the difference in aspect ratio between the two displays will cause one or the other of them to be distorted. You really won't want to do this.
Using the monitor in Extended Desktop mode will allow each display to be set independently and to operate at its native resolution, but because the pixels in the external display are bigger than those in the MBP display, its image will appear less detailed in a side-by-side comparison. You may find that when you shift your eyes from the MBP screen to the external, your eyes involuntarily strain to discern details that are equivalent in size to the smallest details visble on the MBP screen: details that the external simply can't render with its coarse pixel grid. This could be very tiring for your eyes.
Using the monitor in closed-clamshell mode (with the built-in display closed) would allow the external to be used at its native resolution and would eliminate the mismatched levels of detail seen side-by-side in Extended Desktop mode, but of course you'd be working with fewer pixels than the built-in display provides by itself.
A much more optimal two-screen setup is one in which the external display has a higher resolution than the built-in screen, and the physical pixel sizes of the two displays are similar.

  • Exporting to web size Quicktime video from FCP Problems

I have run into a problem...
A few weeks ago and checked my Software Update and noticed that their was a newer version of Quicktime, so I installed the update and now have the newest version of Quicktime. Every since then, when exporting to Quicktime using the Export - Using Quicktime Coversion commands. The Use settings have changed. They are now...
    LAN/Intranet
    Broadband - High
    Broadband - Medium
    Broadband - Low
    Dial Up
    Dial Up - Audio Only
    Streaming - Medium
    Streaming - Low
These are the choices I have now after updating my Quicktime. They have changed since before. With the older version of Quicktime, I used to be able to select the highest quality option, LAN and get a very good picture and a decent file size. For example, a 2 minute 16 second video was 16.5 MB.
Now when I go to export using the LAN setting, it takes forever and always seems to start at 7% completed, saving that less than a minute until completion, then it slowly savs, 2 minutes until completion, 4 minutes etc. until it says 45 minutes.
Something is wrong and I don't know what. Please help.
    Thanks

Well I did a search of the forums and found this infomation...that Compressing as H.264 means that only people with Quicktime 7 can view the movie. I checked my compression settings and indeed the default compression setting I was exporting with was H.264.
What was the compression I had before I upgraded to Quicktime 7? I think if I switch my compreesion to this from H.264 my problems could be solved.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

After the bars disappear I the first few seconds of the video play before it reports an ett/ptv dropped frames error. Why is this happening and why can't I get video to come into the camera?
