RPThe network/transport layer of j2me is implementation dependant. It can be TCP/IP or it can be other protocols like bluetooth ... etc...
J2ME implementation must talk HTTP as an application level protocol. It generally is also able to make socket connections so user defined protocol may be used.
However, I don't believe that WAP and WML should be got rid of. They do serve a great purpose.

  • ADFS 3.0 WAP and Non-Claims-Aware Relying Party Trusts

I am attempting to migrating a Windows Claims SharePoint page to ADFS 3.0 (Windows Server 2012 R2) and the WAP (Web Application Proxy) from UAG, but are running into problems when our external users attempt to authenticate.  Users from our external
domain (call it Domain2.com) have been accessing our SharePoint pages via SAML tokens but when I attempted to move them to the new WAP and off of UAG, they get a http/500 error.  The WAP error log gives the following:
Warning Event ID 13016 - Web Application Proxy cannot retrieve a Kerberos ticket on behalf of the user because there is no UPN in the edge token or in the access cookie
Error Event ID 12027 - Web Application Proxy encountered an unexpected error while processing the request. Error: The specified username is invalid. (0x8007089a).
I presume the Error Event ID 12027 is because there is no UPN in the token and we are using KCD/Kerberos so I need to pass a UPN.
The ADFS server and WAP are joined to Domain1.com.  Domain1.com is Active Directory and there is an account for every user in Domain2.com that is allowed access to our SharePoint Sites.  These account contain the standard
info... UPN, Email Address, sAMAccountName, etc.  The UPN, Email, and sAMAccountName do not always match the accounts with the Domain2.com accounts; however, we have been using an Active Directory Field labled employeeNumber that is synchronized
on both domains and we have been using a custom lookup based on the employeeNumber in AD.
When login's occur via Domain1.com, no problem, the UPN is pulled from the Active Directory Claim Provider Trust.  When a user attempts to access from Domain2.com, we have configured ADFS to forwards them to an STS that collects the employeeNumber
from Domain2.com via a Web Auth SAML token.  We are able to use the SAML token if we use the standard Claims-Aware Relying Party Trust (CARPT) and convert our SharePoint sites to use the trusted URN via powershell scripts, but we are trying to retain
functionality similar to how we are using UAG so we don't want to change every single SharePoint site to the SAML configuration, hence we are trying to use the Non-Claims-Aware Relying Party Trust (NCARPT)
Problem1: When we are using CARPT we can configure the custom translation for our employeeNumber lookup in AD.  But CARPT uses SAML Tokens not Kerberos Tolkens so we cannot login when SharePoint is configured for Kerberos.
Problem2: When we are using NCARPT it works great when authenticating via local (Domain1.com) credentials and look's up the user in AD, but when we attempt to authenticate with remote (Domain2.com) credentials we are unable to configure the employeeNumber
lookup and ADFS doesn't just go out and make that correlation on its own.
Question1: Can I configure CARPT to use Kerberos?
Question2: If not, can I configure NCARPT to lookup the AD employeeNumber, match the UPN, and add the UPN to the token?
Question3: If neither option is available, am I just stuck with UAG or is there something out (not scheduled for EOL) there that can handle the translation between SAML and Kerberos Tokens?
Let me know if I left something out, I tend to ramble, but not sure of all the info that is needed...

    Hi,
Based on the description, is there trust between domain 1 and domain 2? If not, we can try to create trust between these two domains to see if it helps.

  • Time Capsule as a classroom WAP and file server?

    Hello all:
I am teaching a new course, Big History, which has been developed to take advantage of iPad or other tablets in a WiFi classroom setting.
As our school does not have a school-wide WiFi setup (wired LAN only) I am working together with our IT techie to implement a Time Capsule in our classroom only.
Security and limited access is of paramount importance due to regulations here in Spain, i.e., students may only access those sites required by the course and can't use classtime to play around. I won't be buying the gear until I know it will function as needed...
This WiFi setup is a pilot project, and if successful will lead to a school-wide rollout of WiFi and iPad teaching.
The success of this implementation depends on getting it right...then we can join the 21st century...so I could really use some help here. Here's what we know so far.
The school's wired LAN must have the restrictions in place as mentioned above, and it would be impractical to selectively unblock specific laptops in the computer lab during my class teaching hours and only for the students in my class.
Every day's instruction needs different sites unblocked. So you can see this would be cumbersome for the techie...that is, he doesn't want to do it.
All of my students already have their own tablet devices with WiFi, so it's BYOD.
We will connect the TC via its WAN port to the school's wired system. The techie will set us up as a "sub" network, in effect bypassing the schools main LAN, and we will have no restrictions.
The TC will then act as a WAP and basic file server for classroom resources and for students to pass in homework.
We will then set up a user's group for access to not only the Internet, but also files stored on the TC's hard drive.
Kids will be kids. If we don't limit access to the TC's WiFi, I fully expect that my students will give out their logins and passwords, and will tell other students when I am holding the class so they could use the WiFi surreptitiously. Kudos to the kids for being clever, if I were a teenager again I'd do it too...but it ain't gonna happen.
So far we have concluded that to avoid this: I will take the TC with me when class has ended; and each student's device will be registered as a user by it's MAC Nº.
    My immediate questions:
Will this work as I have described? Have I missed something?
I have read elsewhere in other Apple support threads that I may be asking something of the TC that Apple has not envisaged...in order to use TC as I want, we need a specific configuration to access the Internet and also to allow guests on the network?
I will be using my MacBook, connected via Minidisplay port -- VGA adapter to the classroom projector and audio.  I will be access the same files on the TC that my students do. How do I protect my files on my MacBook from intrusion? That is, students can only see what's on the TC's drive.
The students can upload their homework to TC and also download files from the TC to their devices for homework, further study, etc. Yes? This will work?
This is enough for one post...any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if any Apple Education personel and/or gurus are monitoring, please feel free to chime in. If I am successful in this pilot project, it means another school joins the Apple Family (700 iPads!!!! How cool is that?)
Many thanks in advance to all,
    Steve Russell
    Laude International College

Kinda disappointed that after 80 views no one could offer an opinion or solution. I went out and did my own research.
    Here's the deal:
Time Capsule is designed for domestic / professionals who might have a design studio, etc., i.e., for users to have as a wireless backup device for all of their personal stuff (photos, videos, music and suchlike) and to have a permanent resource for every iteration of any work in progress they've ever done.
TC and it's software is not able to easily, or practically, provide a file server type of environment for multiple users, such as in my application for the classroom. It's just to much of a hassle. Moreover, the TC (and the Extreme for that matter) is a "dumb" device...no processor, no RAM. Power supply, WiFi and a drive, basically. It's the wrong tool for my job, as cool as it is for other applications.
Moreover, IMHO, TC is designed primarily for the USA, or any other region where the internet provider usually only supplies a cable/POTS modem. Both the TC and Extreme are best described as Routers in this instance. Here in Europe, at least in Spain, our providers supply a modem-router combination box. In order to use the AC or AE, I'll have to cable in from the modem router WAN to AC/AE WAN port, and then have to go into the M-R and turn off WiFi. Then I have to fiddle around with channels, and perhaps (hopefully not) ask my ISP for a gateway password. My Spanish MAC geek pals tell me that's not necessary. It's a kafuffle for the unitiated, but reasonably easily done.
For true classroom use and all the stuff I want to do, one needs some sort of server environment. For me, it's going to be a MAC Mini + OS X Server cabled to Extreme over LAN. For my use, the 2 or 3 TB drive in the TC is superfluous, more hassle than it's worth and of little use in my specific application. Yeah, I could load OS X Server on my laptop, it's only €19.99, but that ain't gonna happen, not even on a partitioned disk. I'll cable lappy into the Mini as well. WiFi's for my BYOD students.
BTW, I'll be buying the middle range Mini, 4 GB RAM, faster processor, with a Fusion Drive, and 3rd party RAM to 16 GB, and buy OS X Server for €19.99. BUT, I'm going to wait to see if there is a refresh later in the Fall with the launch of Mavericks.
Hope this helps any others thinking about a similar situation.
    All the best,
    Steve

  • WAP and HttpSession

    Hi to everyone
I am a beginner in JSP and WAP and I have a little question. maybe you'll know the answer.
I have wrote a simple wap applications with 2 JSP. Every JSP file prints the session id, using the command:
    <%= request.getSession().getId() %>
I expected that the session id remains constant when one jsp move the control to another jsp, but I saw that it is changed (even if I just do a simple refresh)
    My questions are:
    1. Should the session id remain constant ?
    2. If the answer is yes, why is it changed with WAP? As much as I know, cellcom saves coockies.
    3. Is there another way to identify users?

I read about URL rewriting. If I understand it correctly, I should use the method response.encodeURL(myUrl). I did it but it didn't help - maybe I had a mistake.
    Here is the relevant code:
    <do type="accept" label="Password">
    <go href= <%= response.encodeURL("http://myurl:9080/wml/Login?user=$user&password=$password") %> />
    </do>
Why isn't it work? Where am I wrong?
Maybe I can't use rewriting with dtnamic URL?

    Hi everyone!
I'm new here in this forum...
I try to make a small project to my studies,
My project will include J2SE server and J2ME client.
I'm stuck in the step of finding the server with the wireless toolkit emulator.
I found this issue in old subject: here
I try the solution in reply 6 but I don't understand exactly who to define kvem.home, and I got this error:
" You must define the system property "kvem.home" "
maybe someone can help me and explain how to do that?
    thanks!

    Hello,
I want to find out how this can be done, too. I tried with
    System.setProperty("kvem.home", "C:\\WTK2.5.2");but I get an error:
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: com.sun.kvem.jsr082.impl.bluetooth.BluetoothController.setSystemProperty(Ljava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/String;)I included these files in the build path:

    and I import com.sun.kvem.bluetooth.*;

  • SVG Tiny and J2ME?

Is there any support for SVG (tiny or basic) in the standard libs or are you forced to use 3:rd party libs (alternatevly creating your own)? I'm currently working with SVG and J2ME and I've seen many products...but I think that TinyLine is the most useful (if you are looking for something free).

  • Javacard and j2me

hi all, recently i want to plan a project that is about
i want to make a connection between javacard and j2me(on pda)

  • WML and J2ME

    hi,
I have a WML page and have a midlet.
Using the file connection API, i will request for the WML to my server.
My midlet will get the WML response.
But, the output of the WML should be reflected on my MIDLET, without the mobile browser.
Have anyone tried this. Please help me out.
    with regards,
    Shirish.

WML and J2ME are not directly related.
    1) If you want to download a WML page in your midlet you will need to use a HTTP connection. The downloaded WML markup can be displayed or processed in your midlet. To render the WML, you will need to write a parser and the rendering components.
If you need to extract information from the WML document, I would suggest not using WML at all and starting with an XML document, tailored for your use.
If you do not need to extract information from the WML document, consider using a PlatformRequest to launch the browser and render the WML document.
    2) You can host and create WML page similar to the methods you would use to create and host a HTML page. There are tools to help you author the pages, and emulators to help test your pages.
I would suggest starting with one of the phone manufacturers developer groups, i.e. sony ericsson or Nokia. You can find support and tools on their sites.

  • JAR files and J2ME

    Just starting a J2ME project.
    An embarrassingly Noobie Question:
    1) All the classes that are supposedly "built-in" to my device (phone)
do NOT need to be included in the deployed JAR file, right?
    2) Anyone know how to do that in Netbeans 5.0?
Project -> Properties -> Build shows sources filtering
but that doesn't include anything from my "input"/library .JARS.
However, all the com.*, javax.* and java.* files are being included in
my output JAR file and it causes failures in preverify and loading
    on the phone.

  • MySQL and J2ME

    Hello.
I'm building an application for mobile phones that should get data from an mySQL database.
I would like to know what's the simplest way to do this. The database will be very small. Can I do this directly, doing a query to the database or I have to use PHP or some kind of servlet?
In case of servlets, do they need to be installed on the server or they're just those JSP files?
    Thanks for the help.

You're not helping me. yes I am.
You are basically saying to me
to look for information on Google.
No I didn't! But I should have. Your question is very vague.
Let me try again. Your question is not specific to J2ME. Do you understand that?
So you can do it one of two ways.
    1) Just a normal web page created with whatever. There is no need for a code sample for this. There are many, many examples and tutorials available.
    2) Create a webservice and access it like that.
I posted the link to Wikipedia because I wanted YOU to read it and then come back and say if you want a webservice or not. If you don't know what a webservice is than that link explains it.
Can anyone give me specific directions, please? Please refrain from being rude and unpleasant.
    And .jsp = J2EE?
JSP is part of J2EE yes.

  • JNI and J2ME

Hello all. These days i've been asked to make a little aplication for a PDA and while looking for information about j2me it says jni its not supported. But the app i need to make needs to use some library written in C, and my question is if there is any way o making an application in j2me that can use those libraries.
    Thanks all.

Yes i've found a compiler for my target platform and compiling and running the C libraries doesnt seem a problem at the time. My main problem is that I can't call them from my java application because jni is not supported and i dont know how to import them.

To the JSR-82 API: the classes from sun (javax.bluetooth.* and javax.obex.*) are part of the WTK 2.2b and can be used. But remember: to use a bt app on a phone, the phone must support JSR82, not only MIDP and CLDC.
