WAP200e in bridge mode wireless quites after 4 minutes

I have 2 new wap200e in bridge mode -- after setup and cold start, they talk to each other for about 4 or 5 minutes, then the wireless light on both goes out, and they will not talk to each other.  Any Help?????
Thanks
Barry

Can I ask what the fimware version is that you are running on both devices? Also you can contact SBSC at 866-606-1866 for help with trouble shooting this issue.
Thanks

  • E4200 Bridged Mode - Wireless and Management fail after 36 hours

    Greetings all,
I am trying to see if anybody else is having this problem.  I have the E4200 and have it configured in bridged mode.  Once configured, everything works great for 36 hours.
After 36 hours, all wireless devices are unable to pull an IP address and the management IP address of the E4200 stops responding.  The only way to restore service is to reload the router.
I took the first one back to Best Buy and they gave me a new one, however the new router has the same issue.
It seems to me that after 36 hours, the E4200 fails to renew its management IP and also stops forwarding wireless broadcasts (DHCP) requests to my DHCP server.
    Thoughts?

Thanks.  The new E4200 firmware has "bridged mode" so basically I just have this thing acting as a Wireless access point that has 5 Gigabit ethernet ports.
This disables the routing engine in the E4200 and it acts as a wireless AP and switch.  The E4200's WAN port then connects to a Gigabit switch located in my telco closet, which is connected to my FiOS Router.
Reason for this setup is so that devices connected to either the Gigabit switch, or to the E4200 via hardwire or wireless will all remain on the same subnet, and not cause the broadcasts to block as packets traverse subnets.

  • How do I set up time capsule to just backup multiple macs on a wireless network without using the TC in the bridge mode?

I have an AT&T modem that serves as our home wireless network.  I wanted to backup up our computer data so I got a time capsule to back up our three household MACs.  After purchase, I found how that I needed to put the exising modem in "bridge mode" so the Time capsule would establish the network. Four frustrating hours later talking to 3 different people at Yahoo, I got the **** thing established.  It worked fine for 4 months - then a power failure forced me to repeat the process again.  I had to reestablish everything and it took another 4 hours.  After 6 months, another power failure forced me to go through the entire process again.  Now, of course, Yahoo is charging a fee to help you establish the TC as the network if you have one of their modems - and to make things interesting, they really don't understand MACs.  After 5 hours, in frustration, I gave up and asked the Yahoo folks to just put their modem back in as the network hub and I unplugged the Time Capsule.  Now after 3 months of looking at an expensive Time Capsule and searching the internet for help, I figured I try the Apple help network,
I just want to backup the data on my MACS.  I have a network in the house that works just fine.  How do I configure the TC to work as a backup on a wireless network?  It seems like it should be simple, but it isn't.  Can anybody help?

I have no idea about the modem and bridge mode (I don't do networking -- hopefully Bob Timmons, Tesserax, or one of the other networking gurus will drop in and address that).
But . . . you should be able to back up to the TC as long as it's on your network and recognized by your Macs.  I think being in bridge mode means it will be rather slow, but it should work.  Until/unless we hear otherwise, you might want to see #Q1 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule.

  • E4200 guest wireless redirect failure in Bridged Mode: cause & solution.

    Background:
I have two E4200 v1 routers, both running the 1.0.04 firmware, both running in Bridged Mode.
On one, guest wireless redirect works perfectly: select the Network-guest SSID, open a browser and you get the Cisco login page, enter the passphrase and bingo, you're connected.
On the other unit, the redirect seems to fail. You are never presented with the login page and so, you are never connected.
After hours of mucking about, including some time on the phone with a very patient engineer, I believe I have stumbled on what's actually going on and possibly, what needs to be done to fix it.
    The Problem
The firmware assumes that in Bridged Mode, DNS should come from the Gateway IP address.
    The Fix
Linksys should include a field in Bridged Mode that allows you to specify an IP for the DNS server.
    Diagnostics
To diagnose the problem, I used a Mac OS X machine.
The network is set up like this:
Router (not the E4200) is at 10.0.0.1
    DNS server is at 10.0.0.2
E4200, Bridged Mode as a WAP, is at 10.0.0.253.
    E4200's network settings are:
    IP: 10.0.0.253
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 10.0.0.1
The problem is that the Linksys firmware assumes that DNS and the gateway are at the same IP. You will note that there is no place in the Bridged Mode settings to specify a DNS server IP address.  You can prove this by doing the following:
    1. Connect to the guest wireless.
    2. In a Terminal window, type cat /etc/resolv.conf and press Enter.  You'll see this:
    nameserver 10.0.0.1
    nameserver 192.168.33.1
This tells us that when you're on the guest network, your machine is looking for DNS results from 10.0.0.1. Except that on many networks, the gateway does not supply DNS. You can prove that DNS is working by typing this into a Terminal window:
    dig yahoo.com
You should see a result similar to this:

As a side note: the reason that the login page is never presented is most likely that the login page is only presented the first time that your Mac OS X machine connects to the network. Thereafter, the network is remembered and the WAP allows you access without a password. So, once you've connected a second time to the network, the WAP says "I know you" and lets you sail on through to wherever your browser is pointed, but then the browser, unable to find a DNS server, returns a blank page which appears to be a failure to present the login page but is, in fact, a DNS failure.
Hope someone finds this useful. And here's hoping that Linksys fixes this obvious issue with the firmware.

I do understand what you were trying to do here since you would like to have only 2 SSIDs (main & guest) for perhaps easy connectivity. The reason why you were not having problems getting online wirelessly when you were connected to the main network it’s because the computer was connected to only one DHCP server since the 2 bridge routers were just acting as a switch or a passthrough device. Now with guest network access it is a different scenario, a guest network is a virtual network meaning to say it’s like your having another router embedded on your router. Since it is a virtual network, then it does not follow the parameters of the main network, hence even if the router was set to bridge mode those routers will still have their own ip address of either 192.168.33.1 or 192.168.3.1.

I just updated AppleTV (3rd gen) to version 6.2 and now the Photos slide show quits after a minute or so. Worked fine on earlier versions.

By connecting to ethernet and wifi you're creating a network loop back on itself. I've experienced problems like this in the past ... nothing really to do with Apple TV. Try one or the other, WiFi or Ethernet ... assuming you have a wireless router that's hooked up to you high speed modem.

  • Workaround for lack of wireless bridge mode on WRT110

okay, so after reading that I don't have a wireless bridge mode on my WRT110, I'm looking for a way to pass dhcp addresses through my linksys router.. Is there a way to do this?
My setup is modem(cable) -> ASA 5505 (Cisco firewall appliance with 8 switchports) -> WRT110 -> wireless clients (iPhone, laptop, etc).
Right now I have two internal networks (all the wireline devices plugged into my ASA and my wireless clients off my WRT110).
reason: I have a application on my iPhone that needs to be on the same network as my home computer. I know I could just plug my home computer into my WRT110, but trying to find a way to keep all wireline clients on my ASA 5505 switchports. Thoughts? Would a ip helper address work on a WRT110?
    Thanks in advance

Well as your WRT110 will be your secondary router, Well you can set your Linksys Router ( WRT110 and ASA 5505) Cisco Router in the same network.
Click Here to Configure Two Router to each other.

  • Request for "Bridge mode" after firmware update

Since updating the firmware on my Extreme the amber light continues to flash, although I appear to have normal internet connection. When I check with the Airport set-up utility I am told that there is a problem and I should select "bridge mode". Can anyone talk me through how to do this?

Given that your AEBS is in series with another router (your Linksys), you should use Airport Utility -> Internet panel to set Connection sharing: Off (Bridge mode). This will accomplish two things:
    1) The annoying yellow LED will turn green.
    2) Any clients wired into the AEBS LAN ports as well as all your wireless clients will now be on the same private LAN segment as all the clients plugged in to the Linsksy. As Martha would say, its a good thing.
You will, of course, still have Internet access but you will gain easy access to othe machines on the wired network for file sharing, Bonjour printers. You can check that this has occurred by displaying your IP address now (Network Preferences -> Airport -> TCP/IP panel vs what you see after you turn on Bridge Mode and reestablish the wireless connection. The IP address numbers will change.

  • I live in an apartment with supplied internet.  I have wireless network with no password.  I have a wall outlet that I can plug into.  When I plug in my TC I get a double NAT error.  I try bridge mode, but I can't get the internet to work.

Can I get an explanation of what bridge mode is?
Can I get suggestions on what I should do to use the TC as a wireless device to spread the same wireless device my apartment is broadcasting?
Can I get a suggestion on how to use the TC as a different wireless device with it's own password without access to the cable modem.  I only have access to a wall port.
I own many apple devices, iMac mid-2011, Macbook Air 2013, 2 ipads, and 2 iphones for the family, and Apple TV.
I want all my devices to be on a password related internet but the double nat on my TC makes weird things happen and slow.  I try bridge mode but the internet doesn't work.
I hope I have described this situation clearly enough.
    Thanks

I want all my devices to be on a password related internet but the double nat on my TC makes weird things happen and slow.  I try bridge mode but the internet doesn't work.
You building supplied internet is a cheap service that is without proper routable addresses..
Therefore to use more than one IP you MUST have double NAT.. sorry there is no choice..
Slow that is because you are sharing internet with every other person in the building.. get your own broadband service.
Bridge will not work.. it cannot work because the building only has private IP addressing. And they only give you a single address.
You can put a password on the wireless.. go to the airport utility and put in a password.
Other than that I don't understand what password you expect.
Can I get an explanation of what bridge mode is?
No NAT.. means the TC becomes a dumb Wireless AP and switch.. works fine with a cable modem router.. or any broadband router but useless with your building system.
Can I get suggestions on what I should do to use the TC as a wireless device to spread the same wireless device my apartment is broadcasting?
Double NAT, and set your own wireless names. There is no alternative.. sorry.

  • How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

How can I set up a guest access point with a Time Capsule and an Airport Extreme? I am using a Telus router with the Time Capsule used as a wireless access point (bridge mode). I don't want the guest access point to have access to my network.

The Guest Network function of the Time Capsule and AirPort Extreme cannot be enabled when the device is in Bridge Mode. Unfortunately, with another router...the Telus...upstream on your network, Bridge Mode is indicated as the correct setting for all other routers on the network.
If you can replace the Telus gateway with a simple modem (that performs no routing functions), you should be able to configure either the Time Capsule or the AirPort Extreme....whichever is connected to the modem....to provide a Guest Network.

What OS on the computer you are using to setup the TC?
Did you turn on ipv6 for wireless to link-local... this is essential for network access now??
Try power cycling the network.. start up in correct order.. uverse.. 2min wait.. TC.. 2min wait.. computer.

  • Bridge Mode and Wireless Clients

I have my network up and running fine, but I am now thinking I may need to tweak it a bit. I have an AEBS(n) and an Airport Express both set up with WDS. The Extreme is the base station and the Express is set in WDS Remote and in Bridge mode under the internet tab. The Express is hooked up via a wired ethernet connection to my PS3. Everything works.
I am wondering if in bridge mode, the express accepts wireless clients as well as providing net access to my PS3 over the ethernet cable. Both the extreme and express stations are close enough together that I am not sure which one I am connecting to when I use my laptop wifi.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes if you enable that option.

  • Wireless works in Bridge mode but refuses in Share a Public IP

This might seem like the easiest problem, but after searching the forum for ages I am still clueless.
I connect to the internet by plugging the ethernet cable straight into the wall. Living in a student flat connecting through the uni's network. MAC-address is not required to log on. In order to access the internet however, username and password is required at a greeting/log on page.
Things were working fine with multiple laptops and streaming iTunes, having the AE setup to share a public ip, until yesterday when iTunes could no longer find the AE. After resetting the AE (plug out, plug in) internet could no longer be accessed. The log on page can't be found, it just times out.
I've been trying a few different setups and the only one that works is using the AE in bridge mode. I want to have it set up to share a public IP but nothing seems to work. Although the router gets an IP assigned and so does the laptop (the AE seems to communicate with the uni network, and the laptop communicates with the AE) internet can't be accessed by the laptop.
Any ideas? If I missed providing some vital info please let me know!
    Thanks!

From your information, the main router at the school's network has been configured to only accept a certain type of connection. Bridge mode is the correct setting for the AirPort Express in this type of setup because you have another router (the school's router) ahead of your device.
Unless you can convince the IT guys there at the school to modify things to allow you to connect using "share a public IP address", I'm afraid there is nothing more than can be done.
In more technical terms, the school's router will not allow another device to handle DHCP on the network.
