WAP4410N, and WRVS4400N V2 ?

I have an issue were I have a wrvs4400N V2 sending out a wireless signal. About 150 feet away I am trying to install a WAP4410N and utiliz the cient/repeater mode in the AP. I log into the Access Point and on the AP tab i choose the client /repeater mode and i check the box for "Allow Stations to associate". I click the Site Survey and after a few moments i get the list of availible wireless networks, with the SSID that i have in my router listed. I select my router and then save the settings. When i veiw the availible wireless networks on the PC i seethe network name and Excellent signal strength.
There are a few different things i have gotten when i try to connect to the network:
1. it takes quite a long time to connect and pull an IP address. and when i finally do my signal strenth is down to 1 bar. I suspect that instead of connecting to the access point i am connecting back to the router with is some distance away.
2. I do not pull an Ip address at all and get the "Limited or no connecctivity" error
Does anyone know of a compatibility issue between WAP4410N and a WRVS4400N V2? I am at a complete loss.

What should actually be done, is set the WRVS4400Nv2 up to support WDS. On the wireless tab, there is a sub-tab for WDS. Under this sub-tab is where the ability to repeat the signal is located.
First, set the router up completely. Configure all dhcp, firewall, vlan, wireless, etc. settings, then cable the WAP4410N directly to the router.
Access the WAP on ip address 192.168.1.245. Set the WAP to client/repeater mode under the AP mode tab. Then perform a site survey and select your SSID from the survey. This is the extent of basic setup.
If you have configured security for the wireless network, then obviously enter the proper information when prompted.
I did notice when you perform the steps above, if you connect your client to the WAP and then unplug the WAP it will remain connected to the network and traffic will still flow. However, if you reattach the power to the WAP the pc will stay associated to the WRVS and will not jump back to the WAP. You must (or atleast in my case, I did) reboot BOTH devices to resolve the issue. If you only disassociate and then reassociate, it still will only connect to the WRVS.
I hope this helps.

  • WAP4410N and WRT610N Cant Bridge Wirelessly in 802.11N

I have two buildings across the street from each other and purchased the WAP4410N on advice of a tech support rep at Cisco who stated I would be able to bridge the two locations with the WAP4410N and my current router WRT610N in N mode however todate 8 month later I've gotten no success in bridging in N but I've been successful in G, but the connection is spotty (not to mention VERY SLOW) as it's just out on the verge of being out of range. for the four tech's who've opened cases they agree this is possible but have been unable to get this to work in their lab or onsite here and close the case after they give up since there is at least A bridge irregardless of how poor of a job it's doing.
Has anyone been able to bridge in N mode? If so any advice as to the specific settings you have been able to use to connect? If not, or you can verify why not, what additional changes I will need to make.
and yes I am aware that running a line would be a better option, but it would be $3k to have the pipe just across the street let alone the burial quality cat5 costs

A reasonable solution would be not use the wrt610n and get a wrvs4400n version 2.  Your connecting up a consumer product up to a small business product and in the past i have seen issues with stable and reliable connections.  The wap4410n and the Wrvs4400n have what is called WDS that they can use to make the bridge connect up and be more stable for you.  It would be a less expensive option than burying a line.

  • WAP4410N and some WMM problem

We aquired a WAP4410N and have problems with users that use Windows Vista®.
They aquire ip in dhcp mode, but don't navigate.
Some Vista clients are normal, some not. I noted that i clear all wireless connection then try connect the system ask about a PIN. Ok, if i put the PIN, everything is all right. But, in the same way, some Vista clients don't ask PIN and don't navigate. Some one know how i can force this clients ask to a PIN?
    Thanks for now.

Highly recommend that you read, reread and understand the consequences and then follow the directions as presented on X Lab

  • Need help about VPN and WRVS4400N and WRT350N

    Hi,
I wanted to know if I can set up a server on in my house so people can access it from the internet? and for that would i need a WRVS4400N router or is the WRT350N router enough for it?because i was reading about the VPN option in the WRVS4400N router. Thanks for looking and all the help.

Which people? VPN is a good option if you need secure access for a small group of known people to the server. For a public, general access server it is of no benefit, though. Any router would do there.
But I generally only recommend to run servers like ftp servers to people you know something about networking, computer administration, security, etc. If you run an open server in the internet it can be accessed (and will be accessed) by all kinds of people. It is your responsibility to maintain an up-to-date and well secured system that prevents other people of abusing the server. It is also your responsibility to monitor the server for indication of abuse and immediately take actions if you find that there was an intrusion. You can read the stories in the internet of people which rather naive run a server open in the internet and had to deal with the police after their computer had been used to spread illegal materials.
Most people are just happy when they manage to get it working somehow and forget that once the server is up and running the real work has just begun...

  • WAP4410N and firmware 2.0.7.4

    Hi,
I tested the last firmware 2.0.7.4 on 10 AP. It was catastrophic because all access points stopped working (no SSID WIFI visible but Ethernet Interface OK) . I downgraded all AP to 2.0.6.1 to solve this problem.
Finally, i can't use the last firmware so i can't secure the system....
What about a new "GOOD" firmware ?
    Thanks.

             SUMMARY TO DATE
Well. Marty, I said I would follow up, so here goes.
    1) The documented security bug has been fixed across all of my (3) WAP4410Ns simply by upgrading to v2.0.7.4 firmware. Now just awaiting the equivalent fix for my V01 RVS4000 Router. I do intend to move on soon to an RV320 Router probably, but that's for another day.
    2) Purchased, received and installed a new WAP4410N V02 to see what happened to my Drop Receive Packet errors, which occur on my 2xV01s but not on my single V02. The new model arrived with v2.0.6.1, so I immediately installed v2.0.7.4. Did a reset to Factory Defaults, and then entered all settings manually.
First the good news... No Drop(ped) Receive Packets.
As I type this, results for my three WAP4410Ns are:-
WAP-1 (V01) up for 18 hours, 24 Drop Receive Packets
WAP-2 (my new V02) up for 3 hours, 0 errors
WAP-3 (my first V02) up for 15 hours, 0 errors.
Early signs are that a V01-to-V02 swap does cure this rather trivial but annoying problem. I will, of course, now go ahead at some point soon and replace the remaining V01, but am I there yet? Well, NO!
    Let me explain...
Access to all three WAPs using Internet Explorer on PC is exactly as it should be. All settings are faithfully displayed, are as they were set to be, and can also be modified and saved. No problem.
Since heeding your advice Marty and enabling Wireless Web Access on all three WAPs, I can also now gain access and browse settings using Safari on my iPad. But...
    1) When I go to Setup | Time, it fleetingly shows 'Automatically' to be checked, then flips to show 'Manually' is checked. Attempts to then return it to 'Automatically' and Save, just cause the device to go busy and hang.
    2) When I open Administration | Management, SNMP 'Enabled' is checked. But I had chosen 'Disabled' when configuring the thing. If I now re-select 'Disabled' and Save, it quickly flips to 'Enabled' again. Closing Safari and revisiting the same page using IE on the PC, reveals that the settings are in fact OK. Odd behaviour, don't you think.
Now TBH, I seem to recall seeing this weird result previously, when messing around with firmware updates. To be absolutely clear about this...
Q1) Can this be fixed, Marty?
Q2) Step-by-step, what sequence should I follow during a firmware upgrade that will minimise the risk of issues like this, that could be down to spurious code not clearing properly when the RAM is flashed with a new version?
    Cheers
    Norrie
BTW, I wonder whatever happened with Michael's 10xWAP4410N issue? Michael, did you ever get a resolution?

  • WAP4410N and multiple SSIDs on different VLANs using RADIUS

I am trying to setup the above environment.  When I connect on my guest network it does not give me an IP address from my guest network DHCP scope that is configured on my CISCO router.
Does anyone have any idea how to set this up???
    Any help would be appreciated...

It is most likely (I'm not certain from the description) that
the 'sub-buttons' are a 'child' MC of the main button? if so, the
'on' handler for the 'main' button will override any handlers
attached to 'child' buttons within it. the only solution is to use
a hitTest method for either the 'parent' button or the 'child'
buttons, OR separate the two MCs and use the 'main' button to bring
a MC of the 'sub' buttons to the Stage.

I just checked again and POP is disabled and IMAP is enabled.  When we try to add the account it sees it as an IMAP account and sets it up accordingly. Of course it ultimately reject the user name and password though.
When I just now checked the settings in his account via webmail I copied and pasted his user name from TextEdit and logged in to his account and checked the POP and IMAP settings.
I then deleted again his two gmail Keychain items.
I then went to Mail and clicked the icon next to his account showing that it was offline and it asked for the password and I copied the password from TextEdit again (remember, this works when loggin in via webmail) and pasted it into the drop down window asking for a password.  It DOES NOT accept it.
Running Connection Doctor shows RED nexts to his gmail incoming and gmail ougoing servers.

I will call this a functional bug
The connection control should have an input box with buttons for Add || Edit || Delete and you should enter the MAC Address in and click add and this should populate a read only textarea so you are NOT limited to just 20 client computers. Basically this should work like the Setup_lan.htm in WRVS4400Nv2 Static IP Mapping but instead of doing mapping just add/subtract/edit Mac addresses and you can fit a lot more than 20.
This is a Major limitation considering I paid pretty good money for this router and access point, I should have vertually limited clients
So back to the Setup_lan.htm in WRVS4400Nv2 static IP mapping......I LOVE this feature and the way it was implemented.....NICE JOB GUYS

    History:
I have 4 WAP4410N Access Points setup in a sorority house, one for each floor. The access points they had before were D-Link 2.4GHz POE APs. The reason for changing the access points was a lack of wireless coverage in the house. About 2 weeks ago I had a complaint that ALL apple computer users were only able to get to a webpage and if they tried to click a link they would get nothing, so they would have to disconnect and then reconnect to the SSID in order to get to another page. I contacted Cisco SB support and asked if they were aware of any issues with apple. The tech said yes and that I should update to 2.0.2.1 firmware, I was currently running 2.0.1.0. The tech also said that after upgrading the firmware reset the access point and reconfigure it, so I did this. I updated the firmware on all 4 APs and had one of the girls click a few links thinking that it was fixed since it worked. Well I have heard tonight that there still is an issue. I am having complaints for ALL apple computer users that after viewing 3 -5 pages/links they have to disconnect and reconnect to the SSID, then after so many more pages they have to do it all over again.
    Question:
I noticed that there is another firmware update released for the WAP4410N, will this firmware (2.0.3.3) fix the issue I am having?
If so, should I upgrade the firmware and reset the AP's again and reconfigure them, or can I just update them and not re-configure them?
If not, should I change some of my settings? Any other suggestions?

Did you try the firmware upgrade and reconfiguring the wap4410ns travis?  As a rule of thumb, I always factory reset and reconfigure the device just incase there is any glitches.
Also are you running all the access points through the unmanaged switch?  If so, try to take it out of the mix and plug directly into the ASA.  Try to eliminate all extra pieces in the mix so you can better understand where the failure is.  Your connecting wirelessly and able to browse, your getting intermittent connectivity.  Also approximately how many users are connecting to the access points at one time?  Try to isolate one wap4410n and a mac and test browsing with it and see what happens.

  • WAP4410n LIMITED TO 130Mbs in N-mode

I have a WAP4410N-A V02 with firmware 2.0.4.2 for my office and the same at several client locations. The problem I see with all the units is that, for N-mode connections, the maximum reported connection speed is 130Mbs at both the WAP and the clients. Also, the clients' status page shows that only a standard channel (no wide channel) is in use. For info, all firmware upgrades/downgrades were accomplished by first resetting to factory default, applying the firmware, resetting to factory default and finally making the desired settings. The units were received with firmware v2.0.1.0 and were first upgraded to 2.0.4.2, then switched between 2.0.4.2 and 2.0.2.1 for the testing since the original firmware was not available on the Cisco site.
    With firmware 2.0.4.2:
The WAP connects to the Cisco SG200-18 Gigabit switch at 1000Mbs.Wireless N connections report 130Mbs at the WAP and the clients.
My laptop's Intel Ultimate-N 6300 AGN card reports its transmit power as 32mw. This is the standard (and its max) value it uses when connected at wireless-G speed. (When connected in N-mode it transmits at ~10mw).
The Linksys-Cisco WET610N wireless bridge status page on 15 different computers reports only a standard channel in use and a connected bandwidth of only 20Mbs. All locations have no interference from other WAPs and are in relatively close proximity to the WAP4410N (signal level -40- to -50dbm).
    With firmware 2.0.2.1:
The WAP connects to the Cisco SG200-18 Gigabit switch at only 100Mbs.
Wireless N connections report 300Mbs at the WAP and the clients.
My laptop's Intel Ultimate-N 6300 AGN card reports its transmit power as ~10mw (normal for N connections).
The Linksys-Cisco WET610N wireless bridge status page on the15 computers reports both standard and wide channels in use and a connected bandwidth of 40Mbs.
    Other info:
No combination of settings changes the above described operation. This includes setting the WAP to N-only operation, switching the WAP's bandwidth setting between auto and 40Mbs, no security or WPA2-Personal-AES, etc. You name the combination and I have tried it.
It seems weird that the units report 130Mbs when a wide channel is not in use. I wonder if the overall issue has something to with the code that is applicable to MIMO and antenna selection?
I saw a couple of other discussions here noting the 130Mbs connection speed but those discussions appeared to raise no issue with it. I hope the info provided here helps Cisco solve this problem.
I would apprreciate any insight on this issue, including a response from Cisco.

    Hi James,
When I bought the WAP4410N I was still using Vista and a beta of Windows 7 x64.  My PC was reporting 300Mbps but I never believed it and just figured this was better then the Linksys Wap54g with DD-WRT. I was only showing 54Mbps on my laptops but the amount of data I could download over a minute was better then the WAP4410N.  The best speed I can achieve (but only lasts a few minutes) is 130Mbps from the WAP4410N and downloads are painfully slow.  Using a desktop gadget "network meter" on one of my desktop PCs with a wireless N USB adapter it is showing a speed of 54Mbps and a signal strength of 70% at a distance of 4 feet from the WAP4410N.  At this distance I also experience interruptions in connection and poor performance.  I do not know if my WAP4410N is defective but a beta firmware is to be released this month that is supposed to help.  I have had to recommend other brands in this price range to those wishing to buy a stable product as this performance is not acceptable.  My network is mostly GigaLan devices and strangely the intelligent switch reports the WAP4410N as running at 100Mbps with the firmware set the 1000Mbps so there is another mystery.
    Best regards,
    Brad

  • Setting up wap4410n

        Hi,
    My name is Antreas,
i just bought  wap4410n and i am trying to set it up as repeater of THOMSON TG585 router.
i set it as Wireless Client/Repeater  with the same password and encryption of my router but with no luck.
It shows that i am connected directly to the modem.
    any help on this?
    thanks in advance
    Antreas

    Dear Antreas,
Thank you for reaching the Small Business Support Community.
AP Mode > AP Mode> Select "Wireless Client/Repeater", you enable the “Allow wireless stations to associate”, you enter the “Remote access point” MAC address or click the “Site Survey” button to choose the access point from the available networks. No need for password or encryption configuration here.
    Just double check on this procedure and if still not working I then suggest you to reset to factory conditions, upgrade to the latest firmware release version 2.0.6.1 and reconfigure manually;

  • WAP4410N bringing LAN to its knees

I have a two WAP4410N’s. WAP#1 is configured as an Access Point with “Allow wireless signal to be repeated by a repeater” checked. WAP#2 is configured as a Wireless WDS Repeater. Both are running firmware 2.0.4.2, with WPA2 Personal. Each gets it’s IP addresses via DHCP.
The APs run fine for weeks, and then suddenly I start getting complaints from users of the wired Ethernet LAN that everything is “frozen”. A quick check shows a massive amount of traffic on the wired LAN coming from the WAP, such that the LAN is virtually unusable. My Ethernet switch shows a large amount of Rx errors on the port for WAP#1.  As soon as I unplug the WAP from the LAN switch, the LAN goes back to normal. I plug the WAP back in, and the network slows to its knees. A simple way to see this visually is setup a ping session from one wired client to another. As soon as I plug in WAP#1, the pings start timing out.
I did some experimenting with this today. With NO wireless clients enabled, and WAP#2 powered down, I plugged in WAP#1 – no problem. However, when I powered up WAP#2, the LAN bogged down again. Unplugged WAP#2, and back to normal. Next I tried to connect to WAP#1 via a web browser, and it wouldn’t bring me to the logon page, even though WAP#1 was responding to ping. I power cycled WAP#1, now everything is working normally again.
In summary – for some inexplicable reason, the WAP4410N is going into a mode where it is sending so much traffic to the wired network that it is slowing it to a crawl. The biggest problem I have with this at the moment is that if it happens when I (the only IT guy) is out of the office, I have no way to stop it. I can’t remote in, or anything, because of the interruption to the LAN.
I would really like to get this figured out and fixed. I replaced WAP#1 with a brand new WAP4410N, and that didn’t help. I don’t have any other ideas.
    Thanks

    Robert,
WAP#2 isn't attached to anything, it gets its signal from WAP#1.
Yes, I am using one SSID.
Both WAP's are using channel 6.
Both are in Mixed B/G/N mode, as we need to support all these.

  • Wireless roaming problem (WAP4410n)

Hello, I have two WAP4410n and I want to use it in roaming mode. All two points configured to use same SSID, psk-key, but used different channels (5 and 9). The problem is that sometime second point is not accessible until I restart it. I connect to the wlan using first point than move to the room with second and there is no roamig. Is this a point problem or bad settings?

Hi llya, I assume you mean to say using as a repeater.
The AP has a couple known issues
CSCts76476—The access point may periodically experience loss of
connectivity when configured in bridge mode. Workaround: Unplug the
power adaptor or PoE cable, and then plug it back in.
    • CSCtx62203—In certain environments and traffic model, the WAP4410N
may lockup after some undetermined time. Workaround: Reboot the
    device.

  • WAP4410N firmware 2.0.4.2 bug: 300Mbps data rate not possible

I've spent parts of the past five days buying and exchanging several WAP4410N units because I was not able to achieve anything close to a 300Mbps data rate. I also tried various wireless-n network cards which were known to be configured correctly for 300Mbps speeds with no luck.
The highest speed I was able to achieve was 130Mbps, which is an indication that channel bonding is not in effect.
Then I came across another post in the forums:
WAP4410N does not exceed 130Mbps in N mode at close range.
where the OP mentions recently upgrading to firmware 2.0.4.2, though not treating that as the cause of his problems.
On a lark, I tried downgrading to both firmware 2.0.2.1 and firmware 2.0.3.3, and to my surprise, I was able to achieve the full 300Mbps data rate with both firmware versions.
When I reverted back to 2.0.4.2, I was not able to achieve the full 300Mbps data rate.
So, right now, I downgraded to firmware 2.0.3.3 so I can get the higher data rate, though there are other quirks to deal with.
Furthermore, when I do a web search of reviews, I can see that the inability to achieve the 300Mbps data rate is a huge source of complaints.
    Cisco, please fix this firmware!
Edited to add: I found another post regarding the same phenomenon:

    Best regards,
    Brad

  • WAP4410N Output Power Setting?

I have a WAP4410N and would like to turn down the power output below 100%.
It has a very strong signal, and is covering our small office and half the parking lot.
In the Administration Guide, under FAQs, it mentions a setting for output power but I cannot find this setting.
The SW version is 2.0.0.5, and that seems to be the latest version  - the file I downloaded is WAP4410N-fw-2.0.0.5-K9.img but I haven't installed it yet.
    Any thoughts?  Thanks,

since i am not rebooting my AP very often -- your solution may work until permanent solution is found.
can you tell me is number referring to percentage of full power (say 50%) or is it number of milliwatts?
    thanks
