WAP4410N Bridge/Repeater mode

Guys/Gals.
I have just been escalated to Level 3 support about my bridging issues.
Just a quick recap:
Bridge / Repeater mode configuration separated by 150 feet. Worked perfect for over 3 months.
Upgraded firmware due to lockups starting to happen, now cant get the bridge / repeater to work longer than 15 min.
After MANY support calls, new devices sent (version 2's) still no luck.
Today:
Talked to Marcelo at1 866 606 1866 and he stated that the Bridge / Repeater mode will not be supported farther than 50 Feet.
(seems like a cop out to me) He didn't seem to have an answer as to why it worked for 3 Months other than interference
Of which I have ran spectrum analyzers and see no Interference. Hell even 10 feet away I cant get the units to work longer than 15 min.
So I definitely think the 50 foot thing is a BS answer.
Also they have told me that External Antennas are not supported with these devices.
Again even though People 500 feet away connect just perfect (without a bridge / repeater mode) with 50% coverage!
so here I am (spent 600 bucks) on bricks.. and nobody will support the device and I cant seem to get my money back.
I have 8 customers with these devices, I am not going to use Cisco any longer. However will continue to fight this,
as we all seem to have the same BS issues.
Will keep you posted as he is talking to a developer about his answer to the antennas (external) and range.

Hi Kevin -- Have you attempted to return your devices to place of purchase or get RMA through the Small Business Support Center? Please provide an update on your issues.
Thanks,

  • EA3500 in bridge/repeater mode - can't get it working!

    Hi all,
I have a EA3500 as my primary wireless router. I have cable service and my EA3500's WAN port is connected to my cable modem. I have a few devices (NAS, etc) connected to LAN ports via Ethernet and other devices that connect wirelessly. With the single router, everything works fine.
My issues are when trying to add a second EA3500 to extend the range of my network. I've tried following Linksys' instructions on bridge mode as well as cascading (LAN to LAN).
No matter what I try, I can't get the second router to work properly. My main router is set to a LAN address of 192.168.11.1 and I am setting the second to 192.168.11.2. I am also setting the SSID and security settings the same on both routers. However, once the second router reboots I have devices connecting to it which are then unable to reach the Internet.
My end goal is to have the second router in a media room where my PlayStation, TV, and audio components will be able to connect to it and access both my NAS on the LAN and the Internet. Can anyone provide instructions on exactly how to set these things up? I'm about to throw both of these in the trash and start over with a different brand.
    Thanks in advance!
    Jim

    Hello lootcorp,
Try checking the connections between the modem, 1st EA3500, and the 2nd EA3500. See which ethernet cables are connected from one port to another (from the modem to the 1st and 2nd router. Try changing ethernet cables if possible. To cascade the routers using LAN to LAN method, here's a link:
Cascading or Connecting a Linksys router to another router
Do not forget to reset the routers before you cascade them. I would opt for the LAN to WAN method of cascading. That way, you have 2 sets of wireless networks with different SSIDs and passwords.
Bonne Chance and keep us in the loop.

  • WAP4410N work in Client-Repeater mode?

I have purchased 4 of these devices about 2 months ago and have experienced all of the issues reported within this thread.  The came with the 2.0.0.5 FW rev installed, so unless the 2.0.0.5 on the cisco DL site is different, nothing I can do with that.
I've tried making them work as stand alone AP's, Bridge<->Bridge, etc... all modes seem to lock up eventually needing a reboot to get any functionality back.
Ultimately, I need to make them work in AP<->Client-Repeater mode.  I've not been successful in making them work in any mode for a prolonged period of time.
having just rfound this thread today, I have not tried hard coding the NIC's to 100/full, but will give it a try.  If it works, great, but then that would defeat the purpose of buying an N radio AP.  I would like the potential 300Mbps throughput.
Any update from Cisco on this?  Help!!!

In my experience the WAP4410N worked perfectly for the purpose described in this thread, after following the directions given above. However, there is a little more information that will likely be helpful.
The short: Connect the first WAP to the network in AP mode (I will call this one the primary), the second in WDS Repeater mode, assign the second a unique SSID, list the MAC of each in the configuration of the other, should be all set. Each WAP will allow clients to connect, the remote WAP will provide full network connectivity, including passing through DHCP.
And I think this is a correct statement: client/repeater mode does not apply to the scenario presented in this thread. It seems as though the "client" would be the various workstations connection to the WAP. But in fact the "client" is the remote WAP, which is connecting to the primary WAP as a client, and then routing traffic through. My bet is this would apply to a use of a WAP4410N with another manufacture of AP.
But, I had the same problems as amvita - none of this worked when I first tried.
I think the reason is simple: I initially configured using the client/repeater mode. I started by setting up the remote WAP, assigned it a unique SSID, set up security, then configured for client/repeater. At the time that the WAP connects and authenticates to the primary AP, its unique SSID is REPLACED with the SSID of the primary. I guess this is clever - it would appear that there is a single SSID to connect, even though there are multiple WAPs forming the network. This configuration did not work, so I went back to the WDS Repeater mode. But now the SSIDs match between the primary and remote, and the pair does not work. So put back the unique SSID on the remote WAP, and everything should be good.

  • WAP4410N (Repeater-Mode) is crashing at least once a day

    Hello everyone
we installed a WAP4410n for a customer who needed a wireless repeater to forward the signal to another part of the building. Everything is configured properly and works, until the device stops responding. This happens at least once a day, sometimes twice or even more often. When you power-cycle the device, after a few minutes everything is fine again. The lights on the device stay lid up after the crash. The wireless network is not discoverable after the crash though.
The wireless-router that is forwarded is in direct site an at maximum 15 meters away. The signal strengts is good and the only traffic that is made is internet access for two PC over a 2mbit internet-connection.
I tried updating the device from 2.0.0.5 to 2.0.0.12 K9 but this has not solved the problem. I'm not sure if this is a hardware-failure or a known software bug. Please let me know, what i can do to solve this.
    Thanks in advance

    Greetings,
Usually when you use repeater mode from one of our access points the speed and range is cut by half, If I am correct 15 meters is close to 45 feet give or take, our max range for wireless is 120 feet configured as an access point,  when cut in half by the property of repeater mode your new repeated broadcast would have 60 feet give or take of wireless connectivity, if your clients are moving in and out of the total broadcast range and consistently requesting  DHCP from the WAP device you could generate a broadcast storm that could lead to the device locking up.  I would suggest tweaking with the advanced wireless settings at carefully and looking at the help tab to see what each setting does, perhaps trying different wireless channels that work best in your network and trying to stay within the wireless boundries of your total broadcast range. This is a mere suggestion and a personal point of view, however for more detailed and precise technical support regarding your issue please contact our support center 1-866-606-1866.
    Thanks.

  • How to set WRT54G v7 router so signal is forwardet- using bridge or repeater mode?

What i need to set in WRT54G so its signal is beeing repeated?
I want to use WRT54G v7 as to who internet comes in and it works like that right now and it has passw admin changed and WPA2 personal set up
I have another router tenda w311r+ and there i have options in WDS- Lazy, Bridge and Repeater modes..
Lazy mode is without asking BSID but others ask so i asume Lazy repeats every routers around signals..
But what then is difference in Bridge and Repeater mode?
I wasnt able to set all up corectly..
Read tutorials about w311r+ and doing similar couldnt get it work..

    1
    In tenda i have
    Wifi settings
BSSID NameTenda123 Passw123 <---- This is not same as WRT54G settings, do i need to make it like that also? Even channel the same?
    WDS settings

And do i connect from computer to NameTenda123 to get repeated signal from WRT54G ?
Or the same name as reapted signal router i need to connect? BSSID of WRT54G? And do i need to set in tenda wifi settings witch now are different then WRT54G wifi settings but in Tenda WDS repeater settings are set..
Maybe i need to set Tenda wifi off and only set WDS to be on?
    3
Also to WRT54G i log in to 192.168.0.1 and maybe i need to set Tenda to 192.168.0.2 ? and something else?

  • WAP4410N width Security-Mode WPA2-Enterprise and WDS-Repeater

    Hi,
i have two WAP4410N with same Firmware 2.0.7.4. One Configured as AccessPoint with "Allow wireless signal to be repeated by a repeater." and correct MAC of the repeater.
The Repeater has same settings (WPA2-Enterprise, both WAP4410N in B/G/N-Mode) configured as "Wireless WDS-Repeater" width correct MAC of first AP.
Problem is, that the Repeater does not repeat anything, nothing in the logfile. Are my settings correct or should i use "Wireless Client/Repeater" in my case. Does WAP4410N support Repeating in WPA2-Enterprise?
    Thanks for your assistance

A dumb question first of all - when you entered the mac address to repeat, did you use the wireless rather than the wired mac address?
I also found that enabling http (wireless) access to the wap4410n repeater and then disconnecting the wired connection to the wap4410n ap helped set things up better.
If you search these forums I uploaded beta firmware that works much better than the one you're using. Alternatively you could use wap encryption, it seems that using wpa2-personnel is what messes up the firmware you're using.

  • Universal Repeater Mode with Airport Express

    Hi all folks,
is something like the universal repeater mode with the new Airport Express 802.11n (2nd) available.
Today I use a Airport Express in the Client Mode to connect to a WLAN and I connect my Mac to the Ethernet Port and the Airport is in Bridge Mode.
This works nice and became available with the AirPort Express 802.11n, my AirPort Express 802.11g can't do this.
On the other hand, I'm interesting in connecting some Macs to the "foreign" WLAN, but all the time I use "Join a wireless Network", I got "Internet Connection" with "Connect Using" "Wireless Network" and "Connection Sharing" "Off (Brifge Mode)" only (same with "Extend a wireless network").
In "Participate in a WDS network" and "WDS remote" the Options for "Connection Sharing" are "Off (Bridge Mode)", "Distribute a range of IP addresses" or "Share a public IP address".
Maybe I'm wrong, but why I can't use this "Connection Sharing" Options with "Join a wireless Network", the Client Mode, too.
In the Bridge Mode I can't separate the two networks well.
    Any suggestions,
    Lutz

The "Connection Sharing" option basically controls the base station's NAT & DHCP functions. By default, Connection Sharing = Share a public IP address. This would enable both NAT & DHCP. When "Distribute a range of IP addresses" is selected, DHCP is enabled, but NAT is disabled. Finally, for "Off (Bridge Mode)," both NAT & DHCP are disabled.
Now depending on which Connection Sharing option you choose, the options for Wireless Mode will change as well. These are all pre-designed by Apple for the most common uses for their base stations for simplicity.

  • Deos Aironet 1300 can provide the repeater mode to PT-link TL-WA601G

    Hello,
I have a problem with Aironet 1300 to provide the repeater mode to PT-link TL-WA601G for extending the signal.
I have two cisco aironet, i have configures as the bridge to link each other and WEP 128bit key.
Then i bought TL-WA601G for extending the signal to my room. However after i configure on TL-WA601G as the repeater mode and put WEP 128bit key, TL-WA601G cannot get sent and received packets from Aironet.
So what is the problem on this? How can i solve this issues?

Cisco Aironet products can establish 40-bit Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) connections with IEEE 802.11b-compliant non-Cisco products. If you want to create a 128-bit WEP link, Cisco products only interact with other Cisco products. If you are using a third-party device with a Cisco Aironet product, you must set both devices to use 40-bit WEP.

  • Urgent Help Needed! .....key locked in repeating mode?

Help please -I've done something stupid but I don't know what. Somehow the 'period' key on my keyboard is locked in a repeating mode and all sorts of complications have resulted...
    Briefly here's what happened:
I was writing in InDesign CS when apparently I hit some combination of keys because all of a sudden the 'period' key went nuts typing periods.............. row after row after row. I tried to stop it but could not. I closed out of the document and by not saving changes was able to return to my original text. But whenever i tried from then on to type anything, the period key just takes off, regardless of applications running or not.
I've found I can control the speed of the repeating by using my mouse system controls. I've slowed it down enough to where I can navigate some but I can't type anything, even a password because faster than I can type the machine inputs one or more periods and the password is rejected.
I've restarted multiple times to no result. I've tried resetting the PRAM but the machine will not.
With no applications running, when I can get the desktop open, a file is selected. If I try to select another file the highlighting moves to the selected file for a moment then jumps right back to the previous one. If I trash that file, the selection just moves to another?
The problem is cross user too - I have two user files on the machine and the same thing happens regardless of which user file I'm working in.
I've searched Mac help and can't find anything about repeating keys but that seems to be what's happening - the period key is stuck on if that makes sense.
I've a major project to complete this weekend... PLEASE HELP!
The problem is on my MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo. Obviously I'm writing this on my desktop backup machine.

The problem is cross user too - I have two user files on the machine and the same thing happens regardless of which user file I'm working in.
That points to s 'system-wide' issue.
    Try resetting your SMC.

Also, you could try booting from your install DVD and see if it does it there. If it does not, it's more than likely a software issue and an Archive and Install should fix it.

  • When i plug my ipod touch (4th gen) into my car usb port the ipod goes into repeat mode

Why is it that when I plug my ipod touch into the USB port of my Peugeot 508SW that the device goes into repeat mode and the same song is played continuosly?

    Hi lllaass
The car handbook certainly states that Ipods can be connected although it doesn't specifically mention which operating systems are supported.  The car system is recognising the ipod and playing one tune continuously but you cannot switch it to a different song.

  • How to switch repeat mode on?

    I running 11.3.1.2 on Windows 8.1 64bit.
How to I turn on repeat mode?
The icon/button for this is not where Apples help pages say it is!
The only way I have found to do it is to switch on the menu bar and then go to Controls menu >> Repeat >> All.
    This if fricking crazy!
Not to mention the fact that the Apple site is useless - I had to search just to find out how to change my password because logging in and editing profile/preferences clearly isn't it (like the rest of the internet) not Apple goes and makes a whole site just for managing your apple login with no link to it from the main site.

I think you'll find that it's working correctly. Presumably, the programmers have decided that if you choose to manually add a song to the Up Next Playlist - then that's what you want to hear next, which is why the repeat feature is turned off. Likewise, manually adding songs to the Up Next will turn off the Shuffle feature, until the manually added songs have been played.
    Peter Row wrote:
This is not very good; often I just throw together a few tracks that fit my mood at the time I'm playing them and have that batch playing on repeat. Yes I could save it as playlist but the simple fact of the matter is that is an extra step that I shouldn't have to do.
Perhaps you simply need to accept that that is how it works. Surely the extra step would be worth it to you, wouldn't it?
Of course, it's possible that you only realise that you want to hear that sequence again once it has played. In that case, there is one tip you could try. When you discover a sequence of songs that you want to hear again, look in the Songs view and list the songs by Last Played. Select the group of songs you want and then create a Playllst from that group. Note that the default view in Last Played is in reverse, as shown in this first shot:
To put it in forward order, simply click on the Last Played column header to reverse the list, as shown in this next shot. Scroll down to the bottom of the list to find the most recent songs:
Lastly, highlight the songs you want and either create a new Playlist from the selection or add them to an existing list:
Yes, I know that's several steps, and you don't think you should be required to take even one extra step. The choice is yours to make, thanks to the exhaustive possibilities of iTunes.

  • WRT54G V.5 and WAP54G in "Repeater Mode" works flawlessly!

If any of you've wondered if the combination of a Linksys WRTG54 V 5.0 Wireless Router and a Linksys WAP54G can function in "Repeater Mode". The answer is Yes. Repeater mode means to repeat your Lan wirelessly. All clients of the WAP54G are on the same network as the WRT54G i.e. 192.168.1.0 and are DHCP clients of the WRT54G.
SSID is the same, the encryption I use is WPS-PSK with TKIP, Channel is the Same. PassPhrase is the same.
Setup is simple just follow the User Guide with one exception. The  exception being when you configure the WAP54G in "Repeater mode" enter the "Wireless MAC address of the WRT54G router, not the "LAN" MAC address as the user guide says.
I've extended my network to my Bro's across the street, with external antenna's ,the speed is great almost like being at home, when close to the WAP54G. One drawback is the coverage is poor except when in close proximity to the WAP54G. I'm looking into a 2.4 ghz bidirectional Wlan amplifier to hook up to the WAP54G for extending the wireless coverage.

The WAP54G also works with the 300N wireless router.

  • Music locked in repeat mode

My music -- whether in the playlist or by album or by artist-- is locked in the repeat mode for a single song even if I touch the shuffle button. I can move it manually, but it is not scrolling through the songlist or shuffling through the list. How do I get out of this? I can't find the repeat button on the itouch, and I made sure the iTunes was on shuffle and not repeat when I synched it tonight.

You can find this in the manual page 45.
While playing music, tap the artwork. The scrubber bar will appear with the repeat icon and the shuffle icon. Tap the repeat icon until it is white = off.

  • Does the AP1142N have a repeater mode or with with other 1142's for roaming?

We have an 2504 wireless controller at the office with 5 LAP1142's.  At another office we have a single AP1142 which doesn’t quite reach end to end.  Ideally I want drop in another AP1142 to provide end to end coverage.  Does anyone know if the AP1142 has a repeater mode?  If not is there any way to make two AP1142's work with each other so they appear as a singular access point?  Can they be configured to handle roaming?
It would be greatly appreciated if anyone could give me a few links to point me in the right direction.
    Thanks,
    Frederick

You can setup the other AP1142 as a repeater, but it is soooooooooo slow and it also depends how far apart the other AP1142 is from the repeater.  With a repeater, you are cutting down the throughput in half already!  Your best bet is to run a cable to the other AP1142 and configure it like the other AP1142, except of course the ip address and hostname.  If you still want to do it, here is an older post:
