WAP4410N Dropping

Dear everybody
I have seen in the forum of cisco that the accesspoint WAP4410N have a lot of problem, dropping connections, lost  DCHP, and the best way to solved this problem is disconnect of the power and then connected.
I would like ask if  any have the best configuration for this access point.
I have two devices and have the same problem that I found in the forum, but this is not a good solution, I need that this devices are stable and not need disconnect for fix the problem.
Thanks a lot of for your feedback
I have the more recent firmware.

I also had problems like that (on two identical devices) running earlier versions of the firmware. However the v2.0.6.1 update solved everything (the entry in the changelog for that version explained what the issue was).
Even though you are running the latest version, I suggest "upgrading" to v2.0.7.4 again. Once that's complete, perform a factory reset and finally reconfigure from scratch... it's a long shot, but I have had success with this approach in the past myself when a firmware update didn't solve the problem(s) it was supposed to address.
If that doesn't solve it, let me know and I'll detail my config for you to copy.

    Hello,
We have 2 of these access points, both configured with 2 SSIDs: 1 WPA-enterprise, 1 WPA PSK which is not yet in use, but provided for reference. Running on latest firmware. Have tested the access points running on thier own with the same results.
We have been using them in a closed test for several weeks without issue. Since we made the acces details availble to the company we have experienced problems similar to the below posts:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3078011
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/thread/2018665#2018665
What happens in our scenario is no one can connect to the AP, and a power cycle is required to kick it back into life. It then will stay fine for anything from a minute to a few hours. As I said we've had the APs up for several weeks without issue so our suspicion is that a client may be to blame

    Hello Sir,
Just need a little bit more of information to asses your situation.
    1) How are the access points setup. Are they in wireless client repeater mode, are just used as standard individual access points.
    2) What's the max distance that some of these wireless devices are trying to connect from.
    3) Create a test wireless connection. Without security, test the connection see if the connection is consistant and stable.  If the connection is strong and stable, then your problem would be with the security settings. Set the channel for (auto) the device will choose the best channel with the least amount of traffic for your area.
    4) If the problem persist you would need to call in to our office so that we can start a support ticket, your device may require Beta firmware that can only be issued with a support ticket. We would have to escalate your case and request the beta firmware that could resolve this problem.

  • WAP4410N wireless traffic locks up even when running latest firmware update

I maintain multiple buildings, and each building has anywhere between 1 and 4 Cisco/Linksys WAP4410N access points. The problem is that at random intervals, the access points just stop sending and receiving wireless traffic. Every day or two, I have to log into every single access point (either via HTTPS or SSH) and reboot them in order for them to start working again.
In short, here are the config details:
    They are all version 2 hardware (either WAP4410N-A V02 or WAP4410N-E V02).
They are running IPv4 (IPv6 is disabled) and get static IP addresses via DHCP.
When there are WAPs with overlapping signals, each WAP is on a different non-overlapping channel (1, 6, or 11).
Each WAP has two SSIDs (with spaces in their names). One is secured with WPA2. The other is unsecured.
There are two VLANs on the Ethernet interface. Each of the two SSIDs are assigned to a separate VLAN.
There is a DHCP server on the network, so the WAPs do not actually assign IP addresses to clients.
All of the WAPs are running on PoE switches. However, some are gigabit and some are 10/100 switches. Brands vary (Dell and Linksys) and models vary.
Cisco finally recognized this issue as:
CSCtx62203—In certain environments and traffic model, the WAP4410N may lockup after some undetermined time. Workaround: Reboot the device.
As such, the workaround didn’t really offer anything new. Rebooting every WAP ends up being a very time consuming process. It’s awful. And since you have no control over when this issue surfaces and can’t put any safeguards in place, I get calls about it at various points of the day almost every day.
Supposedly the most recent firmware update (2.0.6.1) claimed to fix the issue, but it only seemed to make it worse. So now instead of a WAP locking up every day or two, it locks up anywhere between every 15 minutes to 4 hours when in use.
The firmware was updated and the following issue was fixed in firmware version  2.0.6.1: CSCtx62203—In certain environments and traffic model, the WAP4410N may lockup after some undetermined time. (A protection mechanism was added to guard against sporadic problems with client association that could occur after six to 24 hours.)
As for troubleshooting, there are no error packets. On access points running firmware 2.0.6.1, these messages appear:

These log messages appear on both WAP4410N-A V02 and WAP4410N-E V02 devices.
I noticed that when the “beacon stuck” message appears, wireless traffic locked up 10-15 minutes prior to the message’s appearance in the log, and the SSID drops for 4-6 minutes after the message appears.
Is there anything that can be done to address the issue?

    1) LAN port speed doesn't appear to have any effect
    2) Forcing a connection type doesn't seem to have any effect. This is also rather impractical.
    3) I don't have that option (though there is a TKIP/AES mixed option). Either way, I'd rather not have to resort to using a weaker encryption method.
    4) No effect.
I did manage to find some information about the error message (older versions of firmware didn't even offer that clue).
    http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Advanced_wireless_settings#Beacon_Interval
I ended up increasing the beacon interval from 100ms to 500ms under Wireless > Advanced Settings.
The wifi analyzer app on android seems to keep dropping the SSID when the beacon interval is set that high, so I might have to adjust it to find a good balance.
However, while it was set to 500ms, none of the access points went down for two days.
[edit]: I reduced the beacon interval incrementally down to 300ms. It started locking up at 250ms.

  • 2 different WAP4410N stops responding

Still having issues. I reconnected 4 laptops today on 2 different WAP4410n APs. The user will let me know if they get disconnected. Yesterday I even reflashed the firmward on them. Also in order to reconect to one of the Waps I had to cycle the power.
    The laptops are different
One is a Dell Latitude c840 w/ Links wireless card and the other is a IBM t41 i believe.

Just checking to see if there has ever been a resolution to this issue. I have several of these units set up and am experiencing this same issue. I  start them and they work fine for a few days, then nothing. I use WIFI Analyzer on my phone or tablet and they are just not available. If I login to the web interface and reboot the AP it starts working again. At times I have noticed that on WIFI Analyzer I will see the signal suddenly appear normal for one refresh cycle, then drop to nothing for a while, then suddenly reappear. I have screen shots of this is you think it would help.

  • WAP4410N SSLv3 no longer supported in Chrome, Firefox

    Hello all
I have a Cisco WAP4410N servicing a small office for drop-in technicians to connected to our LAN, no heavy traffic or fancy management set up, they just see it as a wireless access point they can connect to for internet and access some Samba shares.
Recently I've been getting errors in Chrome and Firefox that the SSL version used by the unit is no longer supported-
    From Chrome (v 40.0.2214.111 m)-
A secure connection cannot be established because this site uses an unsupported protocol.
    Error code: ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH
    From Firefox (v 35.0.1)-
Firefox cannot guarantee the safety of your data on 192.168.128.1 because it uses SSLv3, a broken security protocol.
    Advanced info: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap
The unit is running firmware version 2.0.7.4, released January 2014, is there any way around this SSL error? So far I've been able to log in to the unit using IE 11, but I'd prefer to fix the issue causing the SSL errors rather than use this as a work around. Has anyone else had to address this issue?

    Hi guys,
issue is solved in firmware which was never released publicly - 2.0.7.6T1 or 2.0.7.6T2 (both Beta status). As those units are already EoL (which means that no new firmware is planned to be released) I would suggest you to open service request to Small Business Support Center (SBSC) and ask for latest beta firmware.

  • WAP4410N Strangeness in Bridge Mode

    Hi There
I have setup 6 WAP4410N's so far in three pairs. Each pair is acting as a bridge.
While in bridge mode, and with the SSID Broadcast set to disabled, i am still able to see the default SSID (or whatever SSID i change it to) on my laptop when looking for a wireless network, and i can access them as if they were in Access Point mode. I cannot set security on this, as the bridge diesnt work then
Here are the details for one in particular, but all are the same hardware and software versions, so no upgrade path
    Hardware Version:  Rev.12
    Software Version:  2.0.0.5
    Local MAC Address: 00:26:0B:DC:07:FE

Just to let you know, the firmware update for these devices has not worked for the bridge mode being dropped
However it has resolved the issue about the SSID being displayed, but just to reiterate, i have 2 WAP4410N on 2.0.0.12 that are constantly dropping the bridge used between them. There is no encryption or anything between the two units. I have another two units, in the exact same setup, but on 2.0.0.5, that are working perfectly.
We are now replacing these units, i doubt we will be using the 4410N product again i am afraid, it is a verty comprehensive device, but we cannot depend on it

  • WAP4410N and firmware 2.0.7.4

    Hi,
I tested the last firmware 2.0.7.4 on 10 AP. It was catastrophic because all access points stopped working (no SSID WIFI visible but Ethernet Interface OK) . I downgraded all AP to 2.0.6.1 to solve this problem.
Finally, i can't use the last firmware so i can't secure the system....
What about a new "GOOD" firmware ?
    Thanks.

             SUMMARY TO DATE
Well. Marty, I said I would follow up, so here goes.
    1) The documented security bug has been fixed across all of my (3) WAP4410Ns simply by upgrading to v2.0.7.4 firmware. Now just awaiting the equivalent fix for my V01 RVS4000 Router. I do intend to move on soon to an RV320 Router probably, but that's for another day.
    2) Purchased, received and installed a new WAP4410N V02 to see what happened to my Drop Receive Packet errors, which occur on my 2xV01s but not on my single V02. The new model arrived with v2.0.6.1, so I immediately installed v2.0.7.4. Did a reset to Factory Defaults, and then entered all settings manually.
First the good news... No Drop(ped) Receive Packets.
As I type this, results for my three WAP4410Ns are:-
WAP-1 (V01) up for 18 hours, 24 Drop Receive Packets
WAP-2 (my new V02) up for 3 hours, 0 errors
WAP-3 (my first V02) up for 15 hours, 0 errors.
Early signs are that a V01-to-V02 swap does cure this rather trivial but annoying problem. I will, of course, now go ahead at some point soon and replace the remaining V01, but am I there yet? Well, NO!
    Let me explain...
Access to all three WAPs using Internet Explorer on PC is exactly as it should be. All settings are faithfully displayed, are as they were set to be, and can also be modified and saved. No problem.
Since heeding your advice Marty and enabling Wireless Web Access on all three WAPs, I can also now gain access and browse settings using Safari on my iPad. But...
    1) When I go to Setup | Time, it fleetingly shows 'Automatically' to be checked, then flips to show 'Manually' is checked. Attempts to then return it to 'Automatically' and Save, just cause the device to go busy and hang.
    2) When I open Administration | Management, SNMP 'Enabled' is checked. But I had chosen 'Disabled' when configuring the thing. If I now re-select 'Disabled' and Save, it quickly flips to 'Enabled' again. Closing Safari and revisiting the same page using IE on the PC, reveals that the settings are in fact OK. Odd behaviour, don't you think.
Now TBH, I seem to recall seeing this weird result previously, when messing around with firmware updates. To be absolutely clear about this...
Q1) Can this be fixed, Marty?
Q2) Step-by-step, what sequence should I follow during a firmware upgrade that will minimise the risk of issues like this, that could be down to spurious code not clearing properly when the RAM is flashed with a new version?
    Cheers
    Norrie
BTW, I wonder whatever happened with Michael's 10xWAP4410N issue? Michael, did you ever get a resolution?

  • Attach WAP4410N as WGB to Cisco 5760 WLC with LWAP 3702

I have 5760 WLC with 3702 wireless infrastructure. Can i connect a WAP4410N AP as WGB to be attached to my current wifi network so i can provide connectivity to some wired devices? Any tips on doing so? And any limitation can be imposed for using this WAP instead of any other AP that are supported by WLC5760? If the wired clients are passive, configuring passive-client on WLC will work normally?

Thanks Eric for the reply, however, this AP is not expected to be controlled by WLC as you mentioned since it is not lightweight and not supported by this WLC for compatibility. But in this scenario, i'm talking about operating it in WGB mode to be attached to the unified wireless infrastructure. In this scenario, it is just attached as a client that pass the traffic of its clients to the other side.
I have noticed the below statement in this guide page (539)
    http://hcsdemo.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3650/software/release/37e/consolidated_guide/b_37e_consolidated_3650_cg.pdf
When non-Cisco WGBs are used, the switch has no information about the IP address of the clients on the wired segment behind the WGB. Without this information, the switch drops the following types of messages:
    • ARP REQ from the distribution system for the WGB client.
    • ARP RPLY from the WGB client.
    • DHCP REQ from the WGB client.
    • DHCP RPLY for the WGB client.
Accordingly, if the switch will drop all this traffic, then no traffic will be passed from the WGB clients to the network ! what I’m missing here?!!!

  • WAP4410N Bridge

I'm trying to set up a wireless bridge from our office to a plant about 100 yards away.  Office AP is in AP mode.  On the Plant WAP4410N, I tried setting it as a Wireless WDS Bridge and it did nothing.  Even when I set the Office AP in the WDS Bridge also, it did nothing.
The only way I have gotten it to work is to set the office one in AP mode and the plant one in Wireless Client/Repeater.  Is this correct?
Also, how do I add a directional antenna and make it properly work?  Do I just detach any one of the three regulat antennas and attach my new one?  How do I know it will send out of that new antenna ONLY?

    Hi Pablo
    Sorry, my bad.
    experts-exchange is a paid serivce!
but here is the comment that wanted to show you.
    My question:
I am seeing very slow file transfer rates when working across a wireless bridge setup.
    My setup is as follows:
2 WAP4410N Cisco AP configured in wireless WDS bridge mode.
    Fileserver <-> switch <-> AP     AP <-> switch <-> windows 7 (wired)
There is connectivity and but the file transfer rates is around/below 1mb/sec. If I connect directly transfer rates are 20-40mb/sec.
Ping times are around 3-7ms but this drop to 500ms during file transfer.
Any ideas would be great. Thanks in advance.
    best regards
    Anker
    craigbeck:
This is not an ideal setup for file-transfer.  The WAP4410N radios are not enterprise-class devices so throughput won't be great to start with.
What you are doing is never ever going to get anywhere near the 20-40mb/sec you mentioned by connecting directly as the radio throughput is far less than that.  Even though the radios are 54Mbps you will only ever get around 22Mbps actual throughput, then add environmental factors, interference, broadcast traffic, unauthorized association attempts and you could well be looking at 10-12Mbps which will translate to around 1Mbps data transfer - and that could be on a good day!
To ensure the link is as solid as it can be make sure there is nothing else on the same channel as your kit, use good directional antennas with low-loss cable (if cable is required), and keep the link as short as possible.  Also you might want to consider configuring the link as a point-to-point layer3 link by putting a router at each end to ensure that broadcast traffic is not saturating the link.

  • Wireless Bridge/Relay between WRT110 and WAP4410N

I recently purchased and installed a WRT110 router to gain wireless internet access for my laptop at home.  The setup was fairly simple and seems to work fine except for the range of the signal.  Once I am greater than about 30 ft from the router, my signal strength drops to "low".  The router is located in the office at one corner of the house and if try to access at the other corner diagonally (about 100 ft) I have not signal.  I purchased a WAP4410N access point with hopes of relaying the wireless signal to all areas, by placing it near the center of the house, by I can't seem to get it to work.  I am a newbie to this wireless setup and not sure which connection type to use, the Access Point or the Wireless Client/Repeater.  The Client/Repeater is what I have tried and the 4410 found the 110 when I performed the site survey, when connected directly to it, but when I disconnect the patch cord and try the connection wirelessly, I get nothing.
Has anyone setup this combination and if so, were you able to get it to work?

What firmware are you using ????    If you are using the linksys firmware then maybe you should try another firmware that is 3rd party firmware like the DD-WRT .  They have that feature for client Repeater or a Repeater Bridge that can be used as a wireless Repeater wirelessly or you can use it wired to the computer.

  • Does anyone know of a phone tech service that can help me set up my Cisco WAP4410N pre-owned router?

I am not a tech personality and need a bit of hand holding in setting up my WAP4410N device. My old router Linksys 1500 seems to be having dropping signal issues and I purchased this WAP4410N online to replace it. I need to know if I made the right choice in the purchase and how to set it up.
    Tony

    Hello,
I'm a Cisco Engineer and I'm sorry, I don't have a phone number to give you but I actually replied to this post to clarify something:
The WAP4410N is not a router, it is just an Access Point, so if you are trying to replace a router, this is really not the right device. As you can see this unit has a single port on the back as opposed to 4 LAN ports and 1 Internet port.
If you are correct o the model number then my advice is for you to look for another device, an actual router so that you can replace your Linksys unit.
    I hope this was helpful

  • WAP4410N & WET200-G5 Intermittency

I have an Imerge SoundServer which streams music via my home network to various zones, including our Conservatory or Sun Room. My wireless network has evolved over the years. The link from the main part of the property to the Sun Room was originally Linksys consumer kit, a WAP54G Access Point connecting to a WET54G Ethernet bridge. The signal path is not too good, and streaming errors were not unusual, especially during parties with lots of bodies around! The very time good music is essential! Hi gain aerials helped but did not fix the problem.
Next this link was upgraded to a Linksys by Cisco WAP200 and WET200-G5 combination, again with hi gain aerials. This was rock solid, no audio dropouts.
I was impressed enough with this Cisco equipment that I decided to upgrade my entire network to Cisco Small Business products, with an RVS4000 Router feeding (amongst other things) two WAP4410N Access Points (-1 is downstairs on Ch-7, -2 is upstairs on Ch-2). WAP4410N-1 also connects to the Sun Room's WET200-G5. Again, link 100% solid, no dropped bits. Signal Strength for this path on the WET Site Survey is 100% or very close to it.
Until very recently that is! Everything downstairs, except the Sun Room kit, was dismantled for major redecoration. When everything was restored, I noticed that streaming errors are happening roughly once or twice per music track. More than enough to be annoying. Well, this stimulated me to address two long-standing WET200 issues. The first is that virtually since new (2008), one of the two anntena sockets on its rear panel has been loose, and I suspect that as a result of it turning the internal connecting wire to it may be broken. This could lead to the MIMO feature not working correctly, and may explain the intermittent loss of data. Secondly, the inline power module had failed ages ago, but as my bridge is powered by PoE from a WAPPOE12, this did not actually cause me a problem, so I just ignored it. But the signal issue was the catalyst I needed to do something about this.
The original WET200 has now been RMA'd and its replacement is due to be delivered later today. Meantime, to avoid any loss of use of my audio system, I purchased yet another WET200-G5. This was connected by wire to my PC and configured in seconds by restoring the config.bin file of its predecessor. The only change I needed to make was to alter its MAC Address in the Wireless Control List of WAP4410N-1, and check that both boxes were on Channel 7. Incidentally, firmware as delivered was Cisco branded v2.0.0.5-ETSI.
I was more that a little shocked to find that streaming errors are still happening, and I have no idea why! But of more concern is that sometimes my brand new WET200 just "disappears" and cannot be accessed at all from my GUI browser. Connect it by wire, and it's fine. At other times wireless access is OK. This never, ever happened with the original bridge. Providing channel, SSID, encryption and access control settings were the same, the original bridge was always 100% accessible by wireless. Significantly it had Linksys branded FW v1.0.13-ETSI.
Tried upgrading the new box to firmware v2.0.3.2-ETSI. No change... so it's back to the factory set revision for now to eliminate this as a variable. Both the Access Point and the Bridge have Static IP's.
So in a nutshelll... the original wireless link between WAP4410N-1 and my first WET200 was 100% OK. Connection between this same AP and my replacement bridge is not. All settings are the same, same AP with its same 3 HGA7S-EU aerials, used with same model (but new) WET200-G5 fitted with the same original 2 HGA7S-EU aerials.
Can anyone suggest what is going wrong here?
    Regards
    Norrie

Tried both IE and latest chrome. Resetting to factory defaults before upgrading didn't help either.
I attached screenshot if i select something and press "save" nothing is saved and selection disappear.

  • Wap4410n stop transmission wi-fi

    hi for all,
    Im Michel from brazil,
I have a problem with wap4410n..  every day, the access point in variable time kick all wireless clients (red X in network status) and i need to reboot the equipament to connect again. the equipament do not stop respond in wired network.. i can reboot via web administrator to restart wi-fi connections
total equipaments connected = aprox. 6 notebooks. all kicked in problem moment
    max distance : 40 meters
sinal potence = normal - optimal
    no-break = yes
    others AP´s = no
    firmware = atualized. last
channels = i try all channels and the problem persist.
    security choose = wap2
frequence of the problem: aprox two times per day
    Can we help me?
    tks
    Michel

John has a pretty interesting observation. I recently reploaced my older WRT54G v1.1 with a V5 router and started having connectivity problems. I had no clue what was going on, my cable modem would constantly drop its signal, my xbox 360 couldn't hold a valid connection and I had all sorts of problems with my OSX boxes. I read this thread recently and decided to replace the v5 with my older router and hmmmm... suddenly my connection issues aren't issues anymore. (BTW I had recently already replaced my airport preferences so that isn't it)
Its only been a couple of days but it appears that my issues are gone. My next step is to replace my v5 firmware with either the Sveasoft firmware or the DD-WRT firmware and reconnect it.
This could be the solution to my problem, not sure what to say about the rest of you....
    Cheers,
    peter

  • WAP4410N vs. Intel Wifi Link 4965a/g/n clients

    Hi everyone...
First, let me describe what we're trying to do.  I work for a school system, and we are deploying mobile computer labs out to several of our schools.  We have 11 such units currently in service with the following configuration:
30 Dell Latitude E5410's, with Dell Wireless 1501 cards, running Windows XP.
2 WAP4410N's configured with WPA2/AES, B/G/N Mixed mode, one on channel 2, and one on channel 9, @ 20Mhz.  They're set up stock, in every other way, except for the admin password, IP address, and SSID.
1 gigabit POE switch, that then connects to a network drop in whichever room the cart gets moved to.
Now, this configuration works great.  Our problem has come about, when we were evaluating this same configuration, but this time with some refurbished Dell Latitude D630's, with the Intel WiFiLink 4965AGN WLan cards installed.
Once we connected all the machines to the APs (15 go to one AP, the other 15 to the other), everything seems OK. The problem starts to occur when we have more than 4 clients on each, or either, AP, try to go across the LAN and access a large file that they need (in this case, it was part of an FCAT test).  The connection starts to become unresponsive, and will within 5 minutes, none of the 15 clients can ping out, and nothing can ping in.  Windows doesn't state that the connection is disconnected, either... it still shows as linked at 150mbps.
    Things that we tried:
Setting the AP to 40MHz mode: No Effect
Disabling all security and encyption: No Effect
Upgrading Wireless NIC drivers on the D630's: No Effect
Upgrading the firmware on the WAP4410N : No Effect
We also tested these AP's with other known good laptops, and it all works.  It seems it's only with this particular 4965AGN card.
    What is working temporarily:
We're using a different Cisco Small Business Pro 541N AP, running at 5ghz, just to get them running, at the moment.  It works great.  Our concern is that we have to build 5 more of these things in the same configuration with the WAP4410's, and the 4965AGN cards, since the equipment is already on the way.
I hope some of you guys have an idea... we're totally stumped, over here.
    Thanks,
    -Ricky Wallace

Try configuring the properties for your wireless card. Check the settings under the Advanced tab, and go to Wireless Mode. By default I believe it is g only. Set it to a/g and you should see your network.

  • WRVS4400N WAP4410N problems

I have an WRVS4400N configured as a WAN and Wireless router and can connect clients (PC's and laptops) wirelessly thru out the office. The clients that are farther away (10-15 meters and on another floor) connect at a very slow rate i.e. less than 10MBps. I have a WAP4410N configured as a repeater. Immediately after powering up it will allow connections to the 4400 and clients work fine for a 1-2 minutes, then the connections drop and I can no longer connect through the 4410. Nor can I ping the 4410 through the 4400 although right after the pwr cycle I am able to ping the 4410. After another pwr cycle the 4410 is available for another short period.
I have attached some info on the configuration of the units and I also have the configuration files available.
I really need this network to be stable and any help would be appreciated.
    Bob

    Hi,
I  setup the WAP4410N to Client/Repeater and once I did the site survey  and chose the WRVS440N router SSID, it automatically changed the  WAP4410N SSID to the same SSID as the WRVS440N.
I only added the security type to match the WRVS440N one.
I also tried WDS repeeater mode option and still did not work.
in the WRVS440N I enable the WDS mode and chose the SSID of the WAP4410N.
I am not sure if there is something I missed.
    Please advise.
