WAP4410N Strong Signal, but Poor Throughput

I have several WAP4410N access points distributed through our plant and office.  One recently started giving trouble:  the signal is strong, but the data transmission is terrible.  I'm getting slow data transmission and high packet loss when I connect to it via its wifi signal.  If I connect to it via a different WAP (through its wired port) it works perfectly.  The problem unit is mounted near the ceiling and nothing has moved to change potential interference.
I have tried:
different channels
firmware update
rebooting the unit
The firmware update may have made a slight improvement, but not enough.  Any other suggestions, or is this unit toast?

Well, some combination of physical relocation, drawing power from a different circuit, and increasing the channel separation from adjacent APs resolved the problem.  My best guess is that some nearby electrical device is malfunctioning, causing RF interference.  We never found the actual cause of the problem, but the unit is functioning well again.

I have an iPad 2 that is updated and using 6.0.1. It is connecting to my wifi just fine. I just purchased a 4th generation iPad. It shows it is connected to the same wifi, same strong signal, but it will not work. HELP!!!

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • AccessPoint strong signal but little or no connectivity

I'm having trouble with our wireless access point. We use Cisco 1100. For starters, when you connect, you get a strong signal but little or no connectivity. Any advice?
    Thanks,
    DJ

If by "Little or No Connectivity" you are talking about a Microsoft balloon in the lower right corner of your screen, that is telling you that you are connected, but it didn't get a DHCP address, it's using the APIPA 169.254.x.x.
Verify that you can get to the DHCP server, and that it is responding correctly.
As a quick test, assign an IP address (mask, default gateway, DNS) manually and see if it makes a difference for you.
    Good Luck

  • WRT610N Woes - strong signal but dropping internet

So I've had a WRT610N since June 2011 - working flawlessly without having to think about it at all, I just plugged it in and it's been on default settings and never gave us any trouble.
About a week ago the power went out - and it caused the router to reset itself to factory settings. I set it back up with our network name and security and didn't think much of it. After that, we started noticing issues on our phones and the laptop in the kitchen.
I work in the same room as the router, on wifi, and have not had the signal drop once since then - my work laptop is about 3-4 feet from the router. Another PC hard-wired through the router works fine
Streaming over the 5GHz band to the tv, one room over, works flawlessly, as does netflix/youtube/etc on the TV.
Once you get to the kitchen, on the laptop in there (which has been there for months without issue), the wifi is totally flaky. This is maybe 40 feet from the router, through only 1 wall. The signal reports 3-4 bars, and windows always reports 'internet access' for the status of the connection, but the connection regularly drops and you must manually disconnect and reconnect to wifi to regain internet access. It is the same story with phones if you are more than about 20 feet from the router - they have a strong signal, but will regularly drop, requiring you to disconnect and reconnect. Both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands appear to be behaving the same way.
Normally, I would just say the power outage fried the thing and get a new one - but it is working flawlessly at short range, and still giving a strong signal at longer range - just not keeping the internet up.
I've factory reset it multiple times since this started happening. I've tried different settings on both bands, different security, no security, etc. But nothing seems to be helping, which is why I'm posting here - help!
    Thank you for reading.

  • The wireless symbol is present and indicates a strong signal, but I can not connect to the Internet.

The wireless symbol is present and indicates a strong signal, but I can not connect to the Internet.  I'm  on my home network and have never had trouble before.  My iPad is current on all updates. I have tried to reset the network settings, nothing has worked.  I can connect to the internet via my iPhone  personal hotspot and all other wireless devices are operating normally on my home wireless network.

I am also having this issue. My boy just got an iPod 4 touch, upgraded to iOS 6. I have a D-Link DGL-4300 108G Wireless Gaming Router. With the iPod I can connect to the router, get an IP address (either DHCP or Static) and even browse through the menu on the router, but I can't connect to the internet.
With a DHCP IP address the iPod give the error "Not connected to the internet" with the static IP address it takes a long time when trying to connect to a website but then it gives the error "server stopped responding".
Clearly the issue is in some setting in the router. I've tried setting up a filter so that the iPod will always have access based on MAC address. I've tried changing the various wireless connection settings, all to no avail. I would greatly appreciate some guidence here.

  • I have a wifi strong signal but anytime i try to browse i will have a message telling me safari is not connected to the internet, what should i do to get connected to the internet.?

can momebody tell me what to do to get connected to the internet?i just got an Ipad2 16gb,i have a strong WIFI signal.two other computer working in the house.

If you have what appears to be a strong signal, but it reports no Internet, then your router is not giving your iPad a connection and the iPad is self assigning an IP which falsely reports a strong signal. Go to Settings/Wi-Fi and tap the arrow to the right of the LAN to which your iPad says that it is connected. If the IP is 169... then you are not getting an IP from your router. Try resetting the router, updating the firmware or restoring it to factory settings. Some older routers do not like newer machines.

  • My wifi shows a strong signal but then i cannot connect to the internet (safari or apps). what is wrong? internet is working fine on my laptop.

My wifi shows a strong signal but then i cannot connect to the internet (safari or apps). what is wrong? internet is working fine on my laptop.

Is this a new issue with your iPad meaning that you have been able to connect to the Internet in the past?
If it worked before try rebooting your router - unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.
Sometimes restarting the iPad is all it takes as well. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
You can also reset Network Settings - go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.Or go to Settings>WiFi>tap the blue arrow next to your network>Forget this Network. In either of those cases, you will have to rejoin your WiFi network and enter your password again.

  • Strong signal, but can't access web

I've been using an open wireless network for a couple weeks, but suddenly I was unable to access any websites or email, even though the signal is strong and there's no password requested for access. Please help.

    First, welcome to the discussions.
You say, I've been using an open wireless network.(Yours) or someone else's.
If by chance it was someone else's, They might have password protected there network.
We need to know, who is your service with?
Are you hard wired, or wireless?
What kind of Modem are you using?
Are you using a Router, if so what kind?
    What are your Network settings?
One last thing if by chance you were using someone else's Network it is Illegal.

  • Why is my phone showing strong signal but only allowing SOS calls?

Been like this for two days. I am in Crickhowell South Wales.

It's on both our phones (husbands as well) . I have a pretty basic phone and he as an Apple 4S.  This keepshappening at regular intervals but never for as long as this.  We are bothon monthly contracts. We are with EE.  It happens within a 10mile radius and we have turned off and turned on the phones. When I go into my settings...as someone else recommended, it only shows O2 and vodaphone ....I got that through going tomanual and when I reverted to automatic it says 'register fail'.

  • My wifi on my imac has suddenly stopped working I have the wifi exclamation mark when I try to log into my network it shows a strong signal but no joy. My macbook and iphone work fine

WWifi exclamation mark had suddenly appeared on my imac. I  have rebooted imac and router

When you see an exclamation point in the Wi-Fi menu, first turn Wi-Fi off and back on. If it still fails to connect, then from the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Network
Click the Assist me button and select Assistant. Follow the prompts. You may get a warning that Wi-Fi is not available, that you're too far from the base station, or that you're using the wrong password.
Assuming that you've ruled out those possibilities, restart the computer and try again. If there's no change, click the lock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane and authenticate, if necessary. From the Location menu at the top of the window, select Edit Locations. A sheet will drop down. Click the plus-sign button to create a new location. Give it any name you want. In the new location, set up the Wi-Fi service with the same settings you used before. Click Apply and test.
If there's still no connection, and if you have control of the router, compare its settings to Apple's recommendations. Some third-party routers may be incompatible in 802.11b/g/n radio mode. Try setting the mode to 802.11n only.

  • The computer sees the airport signal but cannot connect to the internet

I have a imac g5 connected wirelessly to my base station & an airport express. The mac part connects to the internet using the network without any problem. My problem is that the pc portion (using Windows XP) of my imac will not connect to the internet using the wireless network. It shows a strong signal but no connectivity. One of the comments that comes up is that the network didn't assign a network address to the computer (I assume the PC portion). Any thoughts how I can get my computer to connect to the wireless network from the PC portion of my mac.
    many thanks.

Make sure your Firewall settings are correct. I'm going to share some of my settings in the PC area (please bear in mind that these IP addresses could differ from system to system)
My Windows Firewall is DISABLED. You could do the same temporary and see if it works. I use Zone Alarm Pro Firewall. Make sure in my Control Panel ==> Network connection status, your device shows Airport Express wireless device or router.
Depending in your Internet service provider and geographical zone the IP address could be different.
    Example:
    Zone Alarm Windows settings:
TRUSTED ZONES ==> Loopback Adapter 127.0.0.0.1
    PC IP address 192.169.1.3 (example)
    Gateway 192.169.1.254
    DHCP Server 10.0.1.1
    DNS 10.0.0.1
IN AIPORT EXTREME SETTINGS ( Make sure you are in your Imac side or Mac Os)
    Id 192.169.1.5
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    Router 192.169.1.254
    Connection Automatic
Ethernet ==> Automatically (through Airport Utility)

  • My iPod touch gets wi-fi signal, but doesn't work..?

i've had my ipod touch for about a year and i use my friends wi-fi all the time at her house. she has a linksys router and cable internet. i recently got at&t internet, which is dsl. the internet modem also works as a router, with wi-fi. i can connect to the wi-fi perfectly. with a strong signal, but when i go to safari, or itunes, or anything. it says "unable to connect to the server" WHY!?
    ): help me please?

ok so i have a cable modem type of internet provider; we use a dlink router because we have 3 common laptops. Neither my personal laptop with windows xp pro conects to the network well it comes out as limited connection and on my itouch the network appears, it has the checkmark, it has an ip address and subnetmask or whatever you call it. the connected symbol appears on the top bar next to IPOD. and yet I cant connect to anything it says in safari or facebok that it can't open or continue because im not connected to the internet. and it won´t connect to any wifi network anymore. so i've reset the network settings, i've reset all settings to see if it works again but nothing. It used to work well but don't know if some app or content or the itunes of the computer is making it unavailable to connect to the internet.

  • Good Signal, but not Internet with built-in Airport card

    Hi,
I'm sorry if this is a duplicate question, but I couldn't seem to find a similar situation. I'm trying to get my wireless (or any) Internet working at my house with my Powerbook G4 with a built-in Airport card. We have a Linksys 802.11g router with no security enabled. My mac is picking up a very strong signal, but everytime I go to Safari, iTunes, or Explorer it says there's no internet connection present (yet internet connect and my network says I'm connected through Airport).
I've had my wireless and ethernet working on this computer before -- picking up a variety of signals, including other linksys routers. All of the PCs in the house are working fine with this, and my mac even shows up on our router list.
The most recent experience I had with internet on my mac was earlier this week--i took it into my work to do some testing and we had to set up a specific location to get it to work through that ethernet network. When I took it home, I removed all of those configurations and tried both my wireless and ethernet, and I can not get either working. At this point, I've removed all of my configurations and tried reconfiguring. Everything but my airport is turned off. No proxies are selected. I've turned off the iPv6. I'm using DHCP (which is showing the correct router and IP address). I've deleted the System Configuration folder from Preferences. And it's on the top of the list in network and have selected Airport as the default. And none of this seems to be working. Oh, and I tested to see if it was a DNS problem (which I head read in one discussion forum), and that didn't fix it. I'm sure it's something simple that I'm missing. But I can't for the life of me get it to work.
Does anyone have any thoughts? suggestions? insights? help?
Please? I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out what this could be.
    Thanks so much in advance.
    meg.
