WAP54G and WRT54G Channel settings

I am using the WAP54G in repeater mode.  WRT54g is channel 11, what is best channel for WAP54G in repeater mode.

@kay5ive, one thing you need to consider is how you would like to set it up. As you can see at the bottom, there are different
options to set up the access point:
These are the corresponding links on how to set up the WAP54g depending on your preference:

  • Cannot Roam/Extend with WAP54G and WRT54G

I purchased a WRT54G wireless router originally and found that the signal was quite weak on the other side of my 4000sf home on adjoining floors. So I purchased a WAP54G to *extend* my network. I have never gotten this to extend the range as claimed by Linksys. This is entirely frustrating. The manual is fairly useless as a troubleshooting guide.
Further, the manual differs from advice on this forum! The manuals says to make sure the SSID, channel and security settings are identical. When I tried this configuration, my laptop did not associate with the better signal of the WAP54G, but still connected to the worse signal of the main WRT54G. So then I saw a post on this forum that said the channels should be different. I tried setting the WRT54G to channel 6 and WAP54G to channel 1. Same results. The laptop is associating with the main router. I have disabled security through the process. I only use MAC addresses to restrict access to cients.
Then I wondered if my laptop's wireless adaptor firmware could be the problem. I found a post somewhere that said one should try changing the "roaming aggressiveness" parameter in the driver. I played with this an it had no effect either. It still associates with the main WRT54G router.
I am totally confused and disappointed. I am getting the feeling that Linksys doesn't really have a viable solution here. I would appreciate someone from Linksys/Cisco providing a thorough post on how to make this work properly.
    Thanks.

HI , the one point that interested me was that even though your laptop was able to see the signal of the AP , it was still connecting to the SSID of the router.
One suggestion here....try and remove all networks from under the preferred network list on your PC..(from the wireless connection properties). then add the preferred networks and define the preference list.
Let me know if this works for you.

  • Channel Settings and EQ in the Output 1-2 channel

I like to use some of the canned channel settings on the mixdown channel, especially the soft enhancer and the maximizers. I also like some of the channel EQ settings like final mix pop, etc. When I add the soft enhancer to the channel strip and then add the EQ, the EQ drops the volume of the channel. This seems to defeat the purpose of the enhancer or maximizer. It doesn't seem like there is a way to EQ first, then maximize. I wondered if anyone else has tried to do this, or used the channel strip settings and EQ in different ways.
    Thanks.
    Joe

    Hi,
using a preset is a good way to start to understand how things work. You should take your time to discover the effect of the single elements in the channelstrip and how they are applied best.
However, you can change order of FX by dragging the plugins and holding down the CMD key.
If you select the soft enhancer first and then enable the Channel EQ, the Channel EQ will install itself as the last plugin in the chain, which is not good. The last plugin must be the limiter. That's an iron rule. So, move the channel EQ to the top and sort the other plugins in an appropriate order, with the limiter as last plugin.

  • Lost channel settings in group properties and blending options when switching to or from 16bit

I recently noticed that Channels-settings in both Group Properties and Blending Options are lost when changing a file from 8bit to 16bit and vice versa.
Could someone please verify if the behaviour is the same on their set-up?

I moved it to the enduring forum. According to: http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/lost_channel_settings_in_group_prope rties_and_blending_options_when_switching_to_or_from_16bit
the behavior is now correct with CS6.

  • I changed my WRT54G security settings from WPA to WEP

I changed my WRT54G security settings from WPA to WEP and now one of my latops (Dell 5100) will not connect wirelessly. It is using a linksys wireless-B notebook adapter. I am at a loss at how to reconnect this to my wireless network.

Go to the setup page of the router on the wired computer and click on the Wireless tab, check the network name(SSID),change the Wireless Channel to 11-2.462 GHz,Keep the SSID broadcast enable and click on save settings...Click on the subtab Wireless Security and change the Security mode to WEP or WPA as per your requirement. If you are using WEP then, note down the KEY1 as the network key(case sensitive)...
Now,on the laptops, delete the preferred network and then, try to connect the Wireless Network.

  • Unable to Connect WRE54G and WRT54G

So I've got a WRT54G Router and a WRE54G Range Expander. The router works fine on its own (Firmware 2.02.7) but when I try to get them working together, it just doesn't work. I tried the auto config on the Range Expander, but to no avail. I tried running the Setup Utility from the CD, and once I get past confirming my wireless settings it says that it can't find the Range Expander and to make sure that it's powered on (which it is). My computer IS getting a signal (an excellent one at that) from the range expander as "CNITS," but it doesn't have an internet connection from the router. What do I have to do to make this thing work?

Well, as you see from the threads on this board, this is a common problem. I experienced practically everything mentioned here, including the IP confict business but I consider myself "Luckydog" because I finally got it to work (after long hours). The settings on your router should be fine if everything was working pre-RE. The RE is just supposed to mimic them.  Unfortunately, there is no simple answer but trial and error. What I would recommend for you right now is reset the RE to default with the pinhole switch and configure the RE with the ethernet cable and IE interface. Don't try the autoconfig or the CD software. Also, power cycling the whole WIFI network system, PCs, router, RE,  printer servers, etc. does wonders. Bring the router up first as that should start assigning the IP addresses. I don't think the Window's warning is bogus, i.e. there has to be an IP conflict somewhere...
Oh, and forgot. Get ready for a hair transplant as you may end up pulling it all out by the time it is all over!
See below. I had a v1 so couldn't hard wire. Hard wire the RE to the computer instead of the router. Might be the IP conflict problem.
    From Castor post 05-29-07:
Logon to setup page of your wireless router, get the necessary wireless settings e.g. SSID, channel, wireless security mode and security code, reset the R.E. (Range Expander) back to factory default settings by pressing reset button, power down the R.E. and connect directly to the computer, power up the R.E. and assign a static IP on pc e.g.192.168.1.10 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 default gateway 192.168.1.1, open I.E. on computer and in the address bar type 192.168.1.240, it would ask for username and password, put “admin” as password without any username, put the wireless settings according to wireless router and save the settings…power cycle the n/w by unplugging power cable of router and R.E. power up the router first once your router is rebooted power up the R.E. check whether it works or not and let me know…

  • WRE54 and WRT54G

    Hi Gurus/Experts.
    I do need your help.
I have been using my WRT54G for a couple of years now without any problems, except for that one time i had blown adapter, and since I was told I couldnt purchase just the adapter, I bought a new WRT54G. But anyway that's another problem for another day.
No problems on the WRT54G until I purchased and hooked up the WRE half a year ago. Since then, it's been the same almost every other day!
Situation is we have 3 fujitsu laptops running on Vista at home. whenever either laptops connect near to the wireless modem and router, it works excellent! however, whenever they are out of range of the WRT54G, they still 'see' the network (shows the WRE is working fine? or so it seems!), and when we do attempt loggin on to the network, it show "limited connectivity" with a consistent IP of 169.*.*.* when we do an IPCONFIG. When we take the laptop back closer to the main WRT54G, it connects fine and when we move it out and into the WRE range. it works fine. Also, when the laptop shuts down and is powered up again the next day, same problem occurs.
I'm suspecting that the WRE is not 'assigning' IP to the laptops. hence, we get a 192.168.1* when the machines are within close range to the WRT54G, but never when it is outside of that range.
Can anyone offer their expertise to fix this problem? I didnt think it made sense to have to bring the laptop in and out the main house 6 months ago when I bought the WRE. I still dont think it makes sense now!
    Tks,
    Nic

    Hi thanks for reply Gollum.
sorry for the reply which was to have come 24 hrs ago but for some weird reason i wasnt able to sign in to my linksys forums account to post a reply! i am still having problems, until i realized a minute ago i could "reply" to my post, instead of the most recent post which gives me a "post does not exist error!".
    Anyway,
I tried doing exactly the hardwiring of my computer to the router, and the router to the range expander, but when i typed ping 192.168.1.240 i got "PING: transmit failed, error code 1232. Request timed out".
So i'm thinking you're right, i must have screwed up the setting on the range expander and caused the security setting to be mismatched with that of the router. how do i proceed from here?
I tried accessing my router with 192.168.1.1 and under wireless security option noted the following options:
    security mode is: WPA-Personal
    Encryption: TKIP
    Group Key Removal: 3600 seconds
    Under Basic Wireless Setting:
    Wireless network mode: Mixed
    Wireless Channel: 11-2.462 GHz
    Under Basic Setup:
    Encapsulation: RFC 2516 PPPoE
    Multiplexing: LLC
    Qos Type: UBR
    Autodetect: Enable
    Local IP Address: 192.168.1.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    DCHP Server: Enable
Likewise i can also access the range expanded when it is not hardwired per your instructions.
Then I type in IE 192.168.1.240 and went in to the range expander and viewed the settings as:
    IP Address: 192.168.1.240
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Mode: Mixed
    Channel: 11
    Security Mode: WPA Pre-Shared Key
    WPA Algorithm: TKIP
    Group Renewal: 300 seconds
How should I proceed from here?
    Tks again heaps!

  • WMP54GS and WRT54GS = dropped connections

I have had the WMP54GS and WRT54GS setup for around 2 years now. I have version 2 of the router, and everything has been fine up until a couple weeks ago. Lately I have been getting randomly dropped from the router. I already have the latest firmware for the router, and have tried changing the channel, and the operating mode to G only, but nothing helps. Sometimes drops occur ever few minutes, sometimes they are so constant that I cant even connect at all. I will refresh my network list and the network will not show up for a few seconds, and then it will, so I will try and connect and it will say Unable to connect.
Sometimes when I refresh the network list and it will show my network like 4 times... like this
    SSID
    SSID 1
    SSID 2
    SSID 3
I have SSID broadcast off if that makes any difference...
I have no idea what is going on, is this a problem with the router or the network card? What should I do? thanksMessage Edited by jls1986 on 05-03-200709:38 AM

First of all, give your network a new unique SSID. Do not use "linksys". If you are using "linksys" you may be trying to connect to your neighbor's router.  Also, do not use your old SSID.   Also set "SSID Broadcast" to "enabled". This will help your computer find and lock on to your router's signal.
After you have completed the above stuff, then go into your computer, to your "Preferred Networks"  (sometimes called "Profiles" ) and delete all networks named "linksys", also delete all entries with your old SSID.  While you are there, delete any network that you don't recognize, or that you no longer use.  Add your new network with your new SSID, encryption method (if any), and key (if any).  Reboot your modem, router, and computer.  Then try to connect to your new network.  Once you have connected, return to "Preferred networks" and set your computer to connect to your new SSID automatically.  If you have an option that says, "Connect to any available network", turn it off.
If you are running any peer-to-peer (P2P) software (BitTorrent, Ares, etc.), this is known to cause disconnection problems.  Go into the P2P software and reduce the number of connections that the software can make.
Poor wireless connections are often caused by radio interference from other 2.4 GHz devices. This includes wireless phones, wireless baby monitors, Bluetooth (including Bluetooth game controllers), microwave ovens, wireless mice and keyboards, and your neighbor's wireless network. Even some 5+ GHz phones also use the 2.4 Ghz band. Unplug these devices, and see if that corrects your problem.
In your router, try a different channel. There are 11 channels in the 2.4 GHz band. Usually channel 1, 6, or 11 works best. Check out your neighbors, and see what channel they are using. Because the channels overlap one another, try to stay at least +5 or -5 channels from your strongest neighbors. For example, if you have a strong neighbor on channel 9, try any channel 1 through 4.
    Hope this helps.

  • Programmatically changing FieldPoint channel settings

I need to be able to change my Compact FieldPoint channel settings on-the-fly, specifically the range and attribute settings.  I've tried doing so using the "Configure Range" and "Configure Attribute" VI's, but have been unsuccessful thus far.  I can't seem to figure out what I'm doing wrong, though it may be that the cFP Modules I have are NOT listed in these VI's selection controls.  I am using 3 cFP-AI-118 modules and 1 cFP-TC-120 module on a 4-slot chassis with a cFP-2120 controller.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi NavyJack,
You can also install the FieldPoint 6.0 driver from the August Driver CD which can downloaded here.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

  • Copy Channel Settings?

    Hi.
Is there a way to copy channel settings within a project or between projects? I do not want to copy the entire track (I know that can be done). I just want to apply the effects inserts that I have on one channel to another channel (preferably in a different project). I know this can be done in Logic, so it seems reasonable that Soundtrack Pro would be able to do this, but I haven't figured out how (and I have checked the manual).
    Thanks,
    Mark

You can save & re-use (all) settings of one effect by clicking the 'show presets' knob in the lower-right corner of the effect-popup you want to copy. Then, click '+' in the lower left corner of the popup, and enter a new name for the setting.
When re-using the effect on another channel, click 'show presets' again, and select the user preset you created earlier.
If you automated effect parameters (with envelope points), you can copy & paste by selecting this knob:
+(Selecting and Moving Envelope Points with Clips+ / p. 371 of the manual)

  • Separating left channel and right channel

My composer needs a QT file that requires the following:
    1. h.264 compression (for upload)
Audio: Left channel temp music / Right channel DIA/Vo/SFX
HOW DO I SEPARATE THE CHANNELS?

duplicate your sequence (you can always get back if you mess up)
in the dupe sequence, if your channels are now stereo, highlight the track, press option L (lower case) to make them mono. in your sequence settings define the audio outputs to be 2 mono. control click in the track near the on/off button and assign channels to either 1 or 2.

  • Copying/moving COMPLETE channel settings?

Hallo. Is there a way how to copy or move complete channel settings between channels? Say I have track 2 and I want to move all settings from track 2 to new created track, that includes not only inserts but also BUS settings (including Pre or Post), I/O settings, Volume and Panning? I know that I can move/copy automation data, but whole channel settings?
    Thanx, Mark

I only found out last night why I didn't hate the fact that the channel strip settings don't include the bus settings and was very glad it didn't... for this one instance. I believe I have had 1,000 times that I would have liked the bus settings to be included. Maybe some kind of choice would be nice shrug.

  • WVC54GCA and WRT54G - RTSP Trouble

OK, I have read the forum thoroughly as well as MyHomeServer and other resources to no avail.  I have 3 WVC54GCA's and a WRT54G with the lateste release of DD-WRT MEGA firmware.  All the cameras have the latest firmware.  I have set all the cameras up with static IP's and forwarded ports so that I can see them outside the network.  This is what I have:
    Cam1     192.168.1.89     Port 1024     RTSP Port 1124     Data Port 5051
    Cam1     192.168.1.91     Port 1025     RTSP Port 1125     Data Port 5052
    Cam1     192.168.1.90     Port 1026     RTSP Port 1126     Data Port 5053
I have checked about 300 times to see that the camera settings and the router settings are the same.  I can get to the cameras from outside the network just peachy using a pc and going to http://<ip address>ort number.  I even have DDNS through DynDns set up and that works great too.  The problem is that I can't get the RTSP to work on my phone.  Previously, I had a 2Wire router and everything was fine, but the router did not support any update service so I switched to the Linksys.
The odd thing is, when I go to the camera log, I can see that it is streaming the video - there is an entry every time I hit the URL from the phone.  The error I get on the phone is "Cannot find web address.  Verify that this web address is valid."
I have tried the DMZ trick and switched ports, etc to no avail.
Does anyone have any idea what the issue may be?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'open the ports on your router'.  I can't just 'open' them, I have to forward them to an IP address.  I have set an Alternate Web Access Port, an RTSP port and an RTP port for each of the 3 cameras - they are listed above.
It is set up exactly as it was with the old router and it worked as it should have.  The problems started with the new router.  I have all the ports forwarded just the same as with the old router and now it doesn't work.  I am thinking that it is the DD-WRT firmware.  I may have to try to flash the stock Linksys firmware and give that a try.

  • Trouble with WPA in WDS between AE and WRT54G

Hi folks, I've have WDS with my AEBS as a remote base station and a Linksys WRT54G as the main base station. I've be running smoothly with 128 bit WEP encryption for about 6 months, so last weekend I tried upgrading the network to WPA personal .
As soon as I go to WPA the AEBS stops talking to the WRT54G. My G4 powerbook can get an get an IP address directly from the WRT54G (when it's in range) so I'm confident the WPA password is correct. Other than changing the wireless security settings I left the AEBS configuration the same as was working for WEP.
I'm running Airport Admin 4.2 and I've tried both firmware 5.6 and 5.5.1 -- same problem in each case. No connection between AEBS and WRT54G.
I had hoped the AEBS would send and error messages to the system console, but so far I have found no useful diagnostic to debug this problem.
Anyone out there get WPA encryption working for a wireless distribution system between AEBS and WRT54G ?
    Thanks,
    David

    Thanks for the reply Henry.
    Hmm... I'm running WRT54G firmware version: v4.20.6, May. 26, 2005.
The SSID's are the same (WEP still works) and personal WPA in the WRT54G is set up using a pre-shared key and TKIP algorithm.
And yet still with DHCP turned on I see that my AEBS is generating "local" IP addresses 256.xxx.xxx.xxx rather than getting an address from the range served by the WRT54G. Since this same configuration work using 128 bit WEP I'm assuming the issue is that the AEBS and WRT54G aren't talking properly.
Do you have a pointer to the previous discussion that suggested WPA on an Linksys AEBS WDS is possible? ... maybe I can contact the author directly.
    Thanks again,
    David

  • Migration manager forgets to import custom IAC channel settings

cananybody tell me where they are stored and which files i would have to manually copy or do i have to re-create those IAC channels by hand?
    thanks for any input...

    Hi
The value of the Channel Strip volume etc is not stored within the C Strip setting, as you have discovered.
If you really wanted, you could add a Gain plug to the strip, with it set to give the correct output level with the Fader set to 0
(Or just set the fader manually in MS)
