WAP54G through a Windows 7 computer

I have a windows 7 computer with 2 ethernet ports. I use one to connect to the internet. Can I connect a WAP54G to the other port and use it as an access point for other wireless devices? If so how is it done?
Thank You
Bob

The access doesn’t work that way; the access point needs a router or a modem to function properly. Not unless you set the computer as a proxy server (or the computer was acting as a DHCP server), then that’s the only time that it will work.

  • Printing through a Windows computer.

I'm working on a 1GHz Power Mac G4 desktop that is connected with Ethernet to a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router. The printer is connected to a Dell Dimension 4300 by USB. The question for me is, even though I can get the printer to show up in my printer search list, I can't get anything to print off of it. Does anyone know a possible solution? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions about details or anything, just leave me a message. Thanks for your help!

I have a Mac Mini running Leopard and I print through a Windows XP computer with printer sharing turned on. My printer is a Samsung ML-1710.
The printer shows up in the network as expected, but initially I had a problem in which the job was sent, the printer spun up then stopped dead.
I tracked the problem to the driver setting on the Mac, which had defaulted to Generic Postscript Printer. Since Leopard had no driver for the ML-1710, I got it from the Samsung website, installed it, and changed the print driver to the proper one. Then it worked fine.
I guess the important thing is that you are running the correct driver for the printer, as unlike WinXP, it doesn't install a network printer driver for you.

  • Print to HP office jet 4110 over lan to Windows Computer

I have lan connection over wireless. Have shared the printer under windows 2000. Have gone through all the add to printers requirements by Mac. This printer isn't listed. Have tried to select printers that I thought might be similar which are listed. The printer is installed on mac and will print if directly connected by USB. I have no luck printing over the LAN. Help

I downloaded the drivers as suggested. It seemed to get started ok but then said it was looking for SAMBA which it couldn't connect to and then I got an error message. What is SAMBA and where should it be installed? Currently in my configuration the printer is connected via USB to my computer which is running windows 2000 pro. The Lan is wireless using Belkin routers. Everything is working fine and I can even stream video to the Mac. I just can't seem to get to the printer from the Mac. Would things work any better if I had the printer in the network instead of conected through the Windows computer?

    what can be wrong?

I recommend you do as LexSchellings and I are telling you to do. If you have uninstalled iTunes and the reinstalled it from Apple's website and it still does not work, you will have to contact the Apple Technical Support section for them to guide you through steps to try and get it working.

  • Remote desktop connection from windows computer to TC

    hi all,
what I have: I have a TC 2TB, bought it three months ago.
what I did: I have set it up at home. Using as base station for all my devices, iphone 4, ipad 2, macbook air and also other laptop. My TC is connected to ADSL modem with an ethernet cable (as expected). with port forwarding option of ADSL modem (in NAT Properties), I managed to forward any connection to TC. I have a static IP by the way.
what I can do: from work or anywhere else other than my home network, I can connect to my static IP (via "Connect to Server" option in any mac device), it pops up a user name and password window, I login with my TC user name and decive password. In an instant my TC disk is mounted on my desktop, and I can reach all my files in it as if it is an external hard disk.
what I cannot do: from a windows computer outside my network, I cannot connect to TC. I try to do this through "Remote Desktop Connection". Is this possible? If so how? Is this a problem related to network connection or TC settings?
    aakibar

You cannot remote desktop into a TC..
In fact you cannot remote access a TC from windows.. sorry.. but SMB protocol is blocked on the internet.. there are work arounds but no security.. don't do it.
The only other protocol the TC offers is AFP.. there is no AFP file access software available for windows. You need to use a Mac.
The best alternative is vpn.. replace your current adsl modem router with a vpn one.. eg draytek.. then you can access your home network. Since I presume when you say you have static ip you mean public IP then vpn is easy (well once setup it is).. reliable and secure.

  • Time Capsule is not seen by Windows Computer :(

Hello everyone. I have a 500GB Time Capsule, I believe it is the first model that came out. I have a PC that currently has Windows 7 installed on it, and a MacBook Pro with the latest version of Snow Leopard. I have always been able to access the Time Capsule on the MBP.
I just installed Win7 from Windows XP. Before I started fiddling around with the Win7 install (had to create a bootable thumb drive because my dvd drive is being exclusively grumpy), I could access the Time Capsule's shared folders with no problem. After I got the Win7 drive complete, I was unable to connect to the Time Capsule. Even after I got Win7 up and running, the latest AirPort Utility installed et cetera, I still cannot see the shared folders on the Time Capsule.
I can log into the Time Capsule using the AirPort Utility on both the Mac and the PC, but when I go to connect to it with the proper password I get errors. First one I got was error 53, so I enabled NetBIOS under the TCP/IP settings for my network adapter and restarted my machine. No luck, it still gives error 53 (make sure netbios is enabled and try again).
Anyone have any idea what I can do to resolve this issue?

I'm also getting the same message. I'm running Windows 7 Premium 64 bit. When I go to "SAVE BACK-UP ON:" the only device recognized is the DVD-RW drive. The windows computer networks fine through my home network and with my Mac computers, I just can't back up to the T/C's hard drive.
I did find the following information while trying to fix the problem under SET BACKUP> GUIDELINES FOR CHOOSING A BACKUP.
"You can only save your backups on a network location on Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise"
Also on windows website under compare, it says "In addition to full system back up and restore found on all additions, you can backup to a home or business network." There is no check mark for the premium edition.
Can you others that are having this problem tell me what edition your using??
    Thanks in advance

    Hello there, charialji.
The following Knowledge Base article offers some great steps for troubleshooting your issue:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3281
    Resolution
If a single application is not responding or stops responding when it opens, you can force it to close.
If the device is unresponsive or if certain controls aren't working as expected, restart your device.
If the device remains unresponsive or does not turn on (or power on), reset your device.
If there is no video or if the screen remains black, verify that the device has enough charge to turn on:
If you are using an iPad, ensure that it's connected to the USB Power Adapter supplied with the device.
Let it charge for at least twenty minutes, then see if it starts normally.
If there is no image on the screen, press the Sleep/Wake button to attempt to wake the device.
If the screen displays a red battery icon, continue charging the device until the battery is fully charged. Learn more about charging iPhone and iPod touch, or iPad.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, or the if the screen remains black or shows a persistent Apple logo, try restoring with iTunes:
Connect the device to your computer and open iTunes.
If the device appears in iTunes, select and click Restore on the Summary pane. Learn more aboutrestoring iOS software.
If the device doesn't appear in iTunes, try to force the device into recovery mode, and then restore it.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact Apple.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • I have recently purchased an iMac from the Apple store. I previously had a windows computer and I transferred all my important files and music from the old computer onto an external hard drive. I've plugged the hard drive in and I can't seem to locate it!

    Hi everyone,
Before I set up my new iMac, I transferred all my important files from my old windows computer (pictures, documents, iTunes etc) onto an external hard drive. I had no trouble using and locating my hard drive on my old computer, however I'm having great difficulty finding it on my iMac. The external hard drive is plugged in with all wires connected and correct. I've tried all the USB ports and I still can't locate it!
I just want to transfer everything from my hard drive to the iMac!
If anyone could help me locate and guide me through the process of using an external hard drive on an iMac, then that would be brilliant!

Try using Migration Assistant following this guide:

There is advice in this document for using Migration Assistant from Time Machine or other hard drive.

  • MacBook won't print from shared printer on Windows computer

I've been trying all day to get my MacBook to print through my wireless workgroup network. I've found detailed instructions here http://macs.about.com/od/macwindows/ss/sharewinprttig.htm. I have a Canon Pixma MX330 Printer hooked up to my Windows XP Computer. The PC is hooked up to a cable modem and wireless router which I have been successfully able to use for internet for the past 3 years. I have a white MacBook with OS X 10.4.11.
I have completed all the instructions at the website stated above without any problems. The problem is that when I try printing something, nothing actually prints. My MacBook acknowledges that there is a printing in progress, the job is sent to my PC which signals that there is active data transport throughout the workgroup, AND my printer lights up. BUT the Printer utility on my Mac says the job is completed before anything actually prints. My printer doesn't signal any errors and neither does the PC. It seems as though the job has been completely lost in cyberspace.
Its been a hassle to print something from my computer for the past 3 years (my old printer wasn't compatible with Macintosh and I just got a new one), having to email it to myself then open it up from the PC to print and today I've decided to put all my effort into solving this problem.
I'd greatly appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hello Sarah897 and welcome to Apple Discussions.
When you have a Windows computer sharing its USB connection, you cannot use the drivers supplied by some vendors, and Canon is one of those. This is due to the Canon driver software for Mac OS X only being written to work with a direct USB connection. It will not work when shared by a Windows computer. (This is step 13 on page 4/5 of the link you posted. Also, this step is not entirely correct - or up to date - GimpPrint is long be renamed to Gutenprint)
So you will need to look at using a CUPS-based driver, such as those offered by Gutenprint. And in most cases the Gutenprint driver will work fine, providing your printer model is supported. And that could also be your issue here if you using a Gutenprint driver already. Looking through the list of supported printers with the latest version of Gutenprint, the MX330 is not listed. So you would have to look at using a different model of Canon driver within the Gutenprint list to see if you can get the printing to work - but this could take a lot of time and use a lot of paper and ink.
I would actually you look at purchasing an Airport Express. With this connected to your wireless network, you could connect the MX330 to the Express's USB port and then use the Canon provided OS X driver - no need to find a compatible driver while the good folks at Gutenprint get around to supporting this new model. The other benefit of having the Express is that you don't need the XP computer to be turned on in order to print from the Mac.

  • Best way to screen sahre from a remote Windows computer

    The title says it all...
While at work I am forced to use a Windows computer...is there a way to access my server and screen share with my server and it's connected computers noting that I am looking for an Apple specific solution [i.e. I don't want to use Team Viewer, LogMeIn or anything along those lines] particularly given this is one of the main reasons I am setting up a server in the first place...
I know that I can VPN into my server but how do I then screen share...help  please...
    Thanks,
    Joel

    Linc Davis wrote:
If you've correctly forwarded the port, that should work. But it would be safer to connect through the VPN, rather than leaving the Screen Sharing service exposed to the Internet.
    I don't use Windows and I can't recommend a Windows VNC client.
    Linc:
Appreciate the response, a few more follow ups:
    1.  Agree, the preferred and more secure method would be to VPN into the OS X Server and then initiate the VNC client.  But, if I follow this approach / method then
a.) Is my understanding correct that I need not open Port 5900 on the router because I will already be connected to the OS X Server?
    b) Should the answer to 1a) be correct than how does the VNC client know to initiate / launch the screen sharing request on the OS X Server instead of the Windows machine?
    2.  Is the general approach / method for accessing services outside of the network to connect via VPN and then proceed from there once connected to the OS X Server and this approach is more secure because i) there are fewer ports open to the internet [i.e. only the VPN port needs to be left open] ad ii) VPN connections are in themselves secure relative to others?
    3.  With an Airport Extreme Router in place does this mean that when I initiate an OS X Server service [i.e. screen sharing] that I should therefore reverse / undo the automatic opening of the external ports?
    Thanks,
    Joel
While related to the previous approach [i.e. tunneling in through the VNC client] , any added information or insight you could provide as to how / why the VNC client's request to the OS X Server will be directed to the OS X Server's screen sharing port and thus initiate a screen sharing session would be greatly appreciated as I am struggling with this part.

  • Windows Computer Hardware view

    Hi
I am trying for a Type proection View to get all Windows Computer information along with their Machine Hardware
I could not find a suitable Relationship Classes for making this Type projection work.
    What i tried was

            <TypeProjection ID="ComputerHardware.ProjectionType" Accessibility="Public" Type="Windows!Microsoft.Windows.Computer">
              <Component Path="$Context/Path[Relationship='ConfigurationManager!Microsoft.SystemCenter.ConfigurationManager.DeployedComputerRunsWindowsComputer' SeedRole='Target']$" Alias="PhysicalComputer"

            </TypeProjection>
          </TypeProjections>
But this does not work stating with the error unable to find mp element for Hardware.
If i remove Hardware related class and import, it does not give me the columns for hardware as it was multivalued and cannot be done through AVP 2.0 (need pro version with cost).
I wish to have all Windows Components + Hardware information Columns for Display.  What is the best way to provide this AD computer info + Hardware info in a single view

  • IMac G5 sharing files with windows computer

    Hi,
I have an iMac g5 which is wireless, I want to be able to access my other windows based computers to share files.
I have a Netgear wireless router and my iMac g5 is connected to the network (i.e. the internet works). From a windows computer I can access my iMac g5 through using "run" and typing in my ip and username, for my imac g5.
Apple help tells me that if I open a finder window and click on the network tab my workgroup will be there and all my computers will be there and i can connect to them. However the network appears but none of my computers do?
p.s. I have windows file sharing and apple talk activated.
    How can i fix this?
