I've got a iPad 2 I down loaded the adobe reader. The instructions for the adobe reader tell me to tap the 'write an e-mail ' icon and then I will be asked to 'open in' . I have tried all the icons on the screen none of them ask me to 'open in'  some times if I drag the screen side ways it will ask me if I want to open in ' iBooks'  so does this mean the version of adobe reader that I have needs to be updated to work with the latest iOS software?

In applications that support "Open In" (like Mail and Safari), you should be able to "open in" Adobe Reader. Sometimes the Adobe Reader is hidden in the list of options.
Mail
In mail, there are 2 ways a PDF attachment may be shown. As an icon, or as a view of the full page.
If the PDF shows up as an icon in mail, tap on the icon.
Tapping on the icon opens a preview of the document (in Mail). Now, tap on the share icon in the upper right, which will bring up the "open in" menu:
Choose "Open in..."
Choosing "Open in..." shows the popup with a list of all PDF viewers on your iPad. If Adobe Reader is not available, try panning the list using a swipe gesture. If it still doesn't show, you may need to install the Adobe Reader from the appstore (or perhaps you are not opening a PDF file but another file type).
If instead of an icon, the PDF shows up as a Preview in Mail, tap and hold on the PDF:
Tapping and holding (a long press) tap and hold on the pdf brings up the "Open In" menu. Choose "Open In.."
Choosing "Open In", will bring up a list of all installed PDF Readers on your iPad. Choose Adobe Reader. If Adobe Reader is not available, try panning the list using a swipe gesture. If it still doesn't show, you may need to install the Adobe Reader from the appstore (or perhaps you are not opening a PDF file but another file type).
Safari
Safari will show a preview of the PDF on top of a gray hatched background with the "Open In" toolbar. If the toolbar does not appear, tap on the PDF and it should appear. Tap"Open In" to bring up the Open In menu.
Tapping "Open In" brings up the Open In menu. If Adobe Reader is not available, try panning the list using a swipe gesture. If it still doesn't show, you may need to install the Adobe Reader from the appstore (or perhaps you are not opening a PDF file but another file type).
