So I just found out that I had accidentally installed something called 'Starforce' when i installed a game called Breed on my pc a year ago...
This program can potentially destroy cd/dvd dri'ves, corrupt data, slow down your system... a whole mess of crap.
This was right after I thought I had XCP.
The thought has occurd to me, exactly how far are these greedy capitilist pigs willing to commit war against their own friggin' consumers to that they can shower themselves with money?
Their consumers no longer care about them. With the attitude they show, it's kind of obvious why.

Backup issues (ufsdump/ufsrestore) under solaris 10

Hello all,
We are in the process of migrating to Solaris 10 from Solaris 8.
On our Solaris 8 systems with 2 HDDs we have a script that does a full backup of one disk (slice by slice) on to another using ufsdump/ufsrestore + boot record. The idea is that if one disk becomes corrupt logically/physically we can boot off the backup disk and continue using the system.
This worked fine under Solaris 8. We tried to do the same under Solaris 10 and noticed some unexpected behaviour when we tried to boot off the backup disk. Solaris 10 started "reconfiguring services" just like it does it when you install the OS fresh with the message:
Loading smf(5) service descriptions: xx/117
Somehow Solaris 10 "knew" that it was booted from a different device than last time.
My question would be: how does Solaris 10 know this and could we "fool" it into thinking that it was always installed on a backup disk, so it doesn't reconfigure itself every time new backup is made (and used).

The fact that you use ufsdump on mounted (I am guessing that you are doing so :-) file systems is risky!. Alternatively, you can create snapshots (fssnap(1M)) for the file systems that you are going to ufsdump on.
If your main aim is to replicate and reduce down time in case of root disk failure, a better solution is make use of mirriong via Solaris Volume Manager (aka SDS or md(7D)). Mirror does not guard against human errors though, such as accidentally deletion of crucial files :-) (which a backup strategy can guard against).

Fail to logon with SYS user: ORA-01031: insufficient privileges

OS: CentOS 5.5
I fail to log on with SYS user through PL/SQL Developer. I receive the error: ORA-01031: insufficient privileges. PL/SQL Developer is installed on Windows 7 Professional. Oracle Client Version is 11.2.0.1.0. However I logon successfully with SYSMAN and SYSTEM.
For those who might ask whether I try to connect "as sysdba" when I use SYS user, the answer is YES, I do.
Besides I think the name of the tool (PL/SQL Developer) doesn't matter because I think I'll face the same error with any other tool (but I mentioned it just in case).
On server side I have no issues with SYS user. I can connect through SQLPlus with connect / as sysdba or connect "/as sysdba" faultlessly.
The initialization parameter sec_case_sensitive_logon is set to FALSE
SQL> show parameter sensi
NAME TYPE VALUE
sec_case_sensitive_logon boolean FALSE
I'm using local naming to connect and on client side I've a tnanames.ora file. The sqlnet.ora file looks like this:

NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT)I read in this forum (another thread) about using a password file. I created a password file using orapwd this way:

Actually I'm not sure the client is influenced by the password file anyway because I tell it to use local naming.

I start up the instance using the spfile.As a side observation, it appears you have two control files also in this directory. That is risky, and goes against the intent of having multiplexed the control file. Ideally they would be on separate disk devices - including separate controllers, but at the very least they should be in directories that are separate all the way back to the root directory. If you can't protect against hardware failure, at least protect against human failure.

Logical Database Backup

I Want to take Backup of my Schema (Using EXP ,Logical backup?) .i want only 10 Rows data for each table in my new schema.

What is the business purpose of trying to backup 1% of the data?
If you care about the data, you would be doing a full physical database backup to protect all the data. Or you would at least be exporting all the data in particular tables to protect against human errors (i.e. deleting all the data in a table in production rather than development accidentally).
If you don't care about the data, and you are just interested in the schema definition, you should be ignoring the data.
I cannot imagine a backup and recovery scenario where having 1% of the data in your backup would be useful. If you are trying to create a smaller version of your production environment for development (i.e. you are not treating this as a backup, but an extract), there are commercial tools out there that can generate relationally consistent extracts of a few percent of the data in your database-- those would be far preferrable to trying to build your own via export.

I downloaded iPhoto Library upgrader, installed and attempted to use it. It stops in the middle of operation and will not finish. Now I cannot open my iPhoto Library! I'm freaking out a little. When I try to open iPhoto, it tells me I need to "prepare it" with the upgrader program. When I select iPhoto Library as the Library I want to upgrade, it tells me I don't need to upgrade it and should be able to open it with iPhoto. Ugh. Help??

If your photos have any value to you you should have an ongoing backup program - TimeMachine is a good first choice
For this purpose simply duplicating the iphoto library is adequate since you are not trying to protect against human or hardware failures - just against a rare rebuild issue

I would suggest taking a look at some other "horror-type" web
sites and keep
a running list of what you like and don't like about each.
Then take that
list and settle on a few design elements that would work well
for you and
your level of html/design knowledge.

I have bunch of pages need "Find and Replace" work in html

You can see I need to use EVERY highlighted code to replace
each NEXT bolded code, highlighted code are deffirent but bolded
code are the same. Now I just do it manually, but there are
thousands of them.

I have about 900 pages I need to make this change on and was
relying on the find and replace tool to do that. I tried differn't
advanced options, nothing seams to change it. I am using cs3.

G5 Graphics Card into PC?

Hi,
bit of an odd question here, is it possible to take the original graphics card out of a G5 (Dual 2GHz, 160Gb) and put it into a PC?
The G5 is a Unfortunately I can't get access to the mac to check the graphics card but from the info from Mactracker it should be either a
NVIDIA GeForceFX 5200 Ultra,
GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL,
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro or Radeon 9800 Pro.

The only chance would be to use a non ADC port equipped card, and flash the ROM to Win/PC ROM.
I know that reflashing PC cards that have been converted to Mac back to PC works fine, but have never heard of anyone converting a Mac original card for PC use.
There are other technicalities that may make the process impossible.
Most people don't consider such, as a used Mac card will sell for two to three times (or more) than the PC equivalent.
If the card is a Geforce 6800 Ultra DDL, flashing it for PC use would be a crime against humanity.
That is a $250-$300 card (used), and the PC version is $100 or less. The Mac version is very desirable, and often sought after.

The "Genres and Moods" section is a perfect feature and is awesome for finding new music and artists while "Hanging Out and Relaxing", having a "Productive morning", or feeling "All Out 90's". Sometimes you'll stumble across a playlist that would be good to use with a group of people - but they are designed to put yourself in the mood or interact with what you are doing at that moment.- The system is built for headphones basically, personal computer, or a nice bluetooth speaker system ( Sound Sticks name drop ). Either the headphones or speaker system- the group is either just you or maybe one other person- possible two or three more. With Atmosphere playlists you would be able to select the situation you are in or creating. Examples below. :Playing Cards ( this is where the Playlist cover would be important and fun to create - the cover art would have to depict exactly the "atmosphere" you are in at that moment ). My suggestion for the Album Art would be a bunch of friends sitting around a table playing Cards Against Humanity. We all know Cards, 6-10 friends sitting around a table drinking, having fun, laughing and just enjoying the moment. All the attention is on the game but music should be in the background- and yes you can browse for a playlist but this is the point of the idea. Instant, tested, and ready to go. The research and development on this playlist would be a lot of fun as well- "alright everyone, for the next 5 Friday nights we have to sit, play cards, and pick songs that fit the moment". First song = Perspective by Until the Ribbon Breaks. or Everlasting Light by the Black Keys. :Porch Party. Album art of a Screened in Porch with pong set-up ( if that is allowed- not sure. PC check ). Group of 2 on 2 playing, 4-5 sitting around a table chatting - maybe a grill outside with people cooking. Need roughly 100 songs to be played on random to suit the moment. This would be cool if you can narrow down the Atmosphere by selecting how many people are in attendance. A playlist for 10 people partying should be very different than a playlist for a party of 50 people.- Spotify does have the "Start Radio" feature, which is not marketed enough ( competition with Pandora ). And this feature is great, but you select a country singer with a awesome song and start the radio off that singer or the song, you will eventually get songs that do not fit the moment. :Say at work, 4-5 different people working in one area or that could be everyone in the whole company- it is 4-5 different views of music. Each person could and most likely likes their own genre and songs. And yes there are "At Work" playlists, but you have to stumble across them going through the different genres and moods. Then you have to find a playlists that you think everyone will like, and hope that no embarassing songs come on. Three examples- but could be endless. I had 8tracks for a while ( still have it but have Spotify premium so naturally doesn't get opened anymore ). But you could select a different Mood and then a different Genre and it would produce playlists based off the two random selections- don't mean to copy that process, that is more of the music genome type deal. But be able to select group size, maybe group age (average), and atmoshere and playlist will generate from those selections. Just a thought, but taken the thinking out of the selection will make it popular. Possible Features:Group Bluetooth for same playlists- if you happen to have more than one set of blue-tooth headphones in the room. Silent Disco's are a perfect example.Hold Music Playlist - being on hold is an atmosphere, not typically a pleasant one but one none the less. Each business that puts people on hold on a constant basis- good music for those people ( and safe foreveryone, no swears are obscene lyrics ) would be awesome. I think it would be cool- seeing if it is a shared idea. I have Spotify on everyday, and since the only one with premium at my current job ( trying to recruit )- my Spotify gets played at work. I saw Spotify Corporate was also an idea, as it should be- I will go back and Kudo's that idea. But this idea could work for that feature as well- or the basis of it.

Multiplayer abilities level-up: community help

Hello to the KZ community. As my title states, the abilities level-up can take a ridiculous amount of time, especially with the 400 air or buddy drone kills. If you people have tips or if some of you want to work towards getting these abilities leveled up to the max, please post below.I suggest to create a warzone with low life and just play normally. More ideas are very welcome! Thanks a lot and keep fragging!

It is learning with experience game. No matter how much you play with bots it is going to be difficult playing against human opponents. Because every game , every loss, every kill you learn, you learn where you get flanked from, you learn the map , you learn different styles, you scan your enemy, you know when to be agressive, you know when to be defensive, you know when to use which abilities, you understand when not to get killed, you understand when it is time to get purposefully killed, you understand when to go infront of 7 players just becauses that 2 seconds of capturing mission or bomb is going to make that difference. And at the end you learn and become a great player. That is the phase that everybody got through , nowhatever which game you play you will start as a noob.So stop worrying about KD and just enjoy the experience.

Forum Etiquette

I like the new Forum Etiquette stickies, but even after that post was made, I'm still seeing rude and hateful comments , mainly from one Senior Oracle DBA. It seems words aren't enough, do we need to come up with some sort of policing agent that expels, banishes, bans users, whom are being rude, mean and hateful.
Sarcasm is one thing, but being demeaning and hateful is just not acceptable. If you can't be nice and help people, don't help them at all. A lot of people come here for help, they are new, some may be lazy, but that doesn't make it open season on them.
Professionalism should be the word of the day. Would your boss tolerate you talking to a customer the same way you talk to the people in the forum?
Perhaps a rating system is in order, or a craigsist type policing system needs to be implemented. If the post doesn't contribute or its negative or off topic, its flagged and it's removed.

lo all just bought a new k7n2 delta mo board, installed new board done a fresh xp install works sweet as a nut
Only then i relised no game port for me swidewinder game pad ;(
So put a sound card in disabled onboard sound and everything seemed to ok......Untill i tryed to find the game pad in add/remove thingy.(comes up with some sortta error
So it seems i am unable to use me game pad because of

If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.

I am not the only one suffering from this problem , but all the players in the game and what they are Arabs and our own website in English , they do not know how to make a complaint to you
Of the problems that I face when I entered I battle to download and try to destroy the enemy soldiers and earn points .. got an error message appears and the game is being re- uploaded because of this and lost a lot of points
In contrast, the enemy attacked by Ali and win and take the points, losing my points from both sides , not only one side

In addition to this when my complaint is they do not respond quickly , and that was answered say that Gary solve the problem for them and what has not been nearly two weeks to solve the problem
The tickets are closing the complaint without my consent and my advice so
Lost in the game nearly 100 points and lost a lot of mattresses because of their problems and in spite of my claim Ptaubi but they do not care about it any attention , where only care about attracting players to buy gold through without paying attention to the daily announcements technical support and solving problems of the game
Picture number one shows the attack, which I've done and lost it , and the reason is that the game is stopped and failed landing soldiers what caused the loss of points
The second picture shows the defense so that also lost a lot of points
I can not attack while the other players came to heavy losses and lost
I hope compensatory and accounting problems that the company did not end

IDVD's unholy war against video quality

I use FCE to make films for various functions to be played on any standard DVD players. So I got DVD studio pro (ebay) hoping to squeeze a little more quality out of the film rather than having iDVD massacre it at the end of my work flow.
I know the SD with dsp export is limited to 720x480, but Im not really sure this really much better than idvd. Does any one know what the output res on idvd is? Suggestions? (Only SD suggestions please)

that's no limit by any software, but by DVD-standards..
a NTSC DVD is 720x480, 29.97 fps; the standards allow a max. bitrate of ~9Mbit/sec => which iDVD does use for projects under 60min/Best Performance.
so, using Compressor/DVDSP will not do a significant better job on that..
I assume, something gets wrong on your workflow FCE>>iDVD..

• Go to File-> Export -> Quicktime Movie
• ( not "Using Quicktime Conversion! )
• if not allready checked: select "Include Audio and Video"
• if not allready checked: select "Markers: Chapter Markers"
.. and check, wether the video standards of your FCE and iDVD are indentical! (29.97 vs 25)!
