this happens when I go to my Internet providers site to check my useage.
Also, could you check the Windows Control Panel for a malware program named Search Protect or SearchProtect? You may need to do a general review and cleanup if that has crept in, since it usually indicates you got a big bundle of crap with some freebie.
I suggest:
(1) Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
(2) Then, in Firefox, check for any other unrecognized or nonessential extensions and disable them. Open the '''Add-ons page''' using either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Set nonessential and unrecognized plugins to "Never Activate".
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
(3) If the above doesn't work, you can search for remaining issues with the '''scanning/cleaning tools''' listed in our support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]]. These on-demand scanners are free and take considerable time to run. If they finish quickly and especially if they require payment, you may have a serious infection. I suggest the specialized forums listed in the article in that case.

The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.

When I go to a website I'm interested in a ribbon comes up at the top of the screen telling me to "allow". But when I click this it disappears for a second and then comes right back asking again. I have to check the X in order to get it to go away and that doesn't always work. I've even "allowed" certain sites on the options pages but that doesn't seem to make a difference.There may be a problem with malware if unrelated pop-ups are opening or you are redirected to unrequested websites.
Do a malware check with some malware scan programs.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.<br />

Every time I try logging into my bank accounts ie Nat West, Lloyds or Barclays I get the Firefox pop up bar saying "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page" and when I click on allow the bank log in page goes back to their home page, this means I now can't log in to my bank accounts. Can you please tell me how I can allow sites without the blocked pop up occuring.
Dawlish 1.Un-checking the redirect block is a Global setting. I want to know how to allow redirect for sites I use every day as friendly sites. I do not want it turned of for the entire world wide web. Otherwise, why even have this security setting at all? I've already added my usual sites to my Privacy exception list but that list is ignored by the redirect security warning.

I am attempting to access KiwiBank online banking using Firefox (my preferred browser). It allows me to enter my account access number and password but when I click through to the next window which is a secure password window, Firefox flashes at the top pf the page asking me to allow the cookies, I click allow however the KiwiBank window then goes to another window stating my session has timed out - after 3 attempts the bank locks me out 9which is a tad frustrating :o0

I am not exactly sure why the menu did not detect the password change or if it was stored incorrectly after you changed it? It is very frustrating and I though that maybe I had downloaded a corrupt program or something and tried doing system restore a few times which wiped out both my free anti virus with Avast and also Mcaffee ( lost McAfee twice ) resulting in my not being able to use my computer for my home based business for a week while it was in a repair shop, which is when I bought McAffee. When this problem happened again I did a system restore for the 2nd and 3rd time and somehow it had cancelled my subscribtion with McAffee both times resulting in my having to contact their tech support and spend an hour + correcting the problem

As to your other issues. Adobe Reader contains NO APIs or code that would have ANY affect at all on antivirus software. NONE.
Running two different A/V programs (Avast AND McAffee) is one of the absolute worst things you can do if you want and need a stable system. It gets even worse if one of those programs is McAffee. It doesn't "play well" at all with other A/V apps. Pick one or the other and stick with it, but you're begging for trouble if you keep both. -
When i click on the Itunes desktop icon nothing happens?
When i click on the Itunes desktop icon nothing happens? I've uninstalled itunes with Revo Uinstaller and deleted all traces and then reinstalled it through the Apple Software Updater and i still cant get Itunes to come up when i click on it.
I've read that i can go to the task manager and end the process but im afraid to it says "Warning" when i click to end the process.
Anybody help?

Something must be auto-starting itunes, then. For instance MSN messenger, it can have a plug-in to show what's playing in itunes and that could be starting itunes. There are other programs that can do it too - I don't know what's on your PC.
Since this is happening in more than one account, I think you are going to have to go through the pain of using MSCONFIG to troubleshoot this issue.

Can't load Google Calendar. I'm getting this message: "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page" but unchecking the box for "Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page" has not helped. I'm using Firefox 3.6.3 on Mac OS 10.6.3. It's not reported as a generalised problem in Dashboard. Google Calendar opens and works fine on my 12" PowerBook G4, but this is a recent problem on my G5 13" MacBook Pro. Mayday!

Everytime I logon to firefox, I get this message:- "warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page".
I then go to "Tools/options/Advanced/General/Accessibility" and uncheck the box, why can't I uncheck once and not have to do it again?
It is annoying to have to repeat the uncheck option everytime.There is software like Advanced SystemCare with its Surfing Protection feature that can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes.
If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software. -

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
Paste into the window of another application.
Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

The new firefox now does not allow many pages to reload. I must click the "allow" button and still it often does not allow a reload. I know I can disable the function, but then I must also disable the warning if a page tries to redirect to a new site. So...Why must I give up a security feature to get rid of an annoying reload issue? I want to be notified when a page tries to redirect, but I don't want an "argument" from the system every time I try to reload specific web sites. How can I keep one and disable the other?
you need to encode the href so that it can be sent as a parameter value. Otherwise it interprets the & as a standard parameter separator.
I believe the window.escape function should do this

If you are being re-directed to other sites, particularly when searching, this can be caused by malware. Try running several malware scanners. It is best to run several as each will pick up things that the others miss. Some scanners you can try are:
