Warning 20225

I'm trying to install Acrobat 6 Std, and I receive the below error:
Warning 20225: Adobe Acrobat 6.0 was unable to create a new item: Adobe PDF Converter. The Adobe PDF Printer may be unavailable.
GetLastError: Cannot create a file then that file already exists.
Acrobat still installs successfully, but I am unable to print to a PDF.
Any suggestions? This happens with version 7 also.

Even if you get the printer installed (if it is a 64-bit system you may be out of luck), you will likely have to change the printer port to file and then open each file in Distiller to complete the conversion to PDF. I do not think you will be able to get AcroTray to work under WIn7. AcroTray is what automates the printing process, but you may have to add the extra step to your workflow.

And on what system? Acrobat 7 is not compatible with Windows 7, if that's what you are using. You need to upgrade then.

  • Warning 20225 Adobe 6.0 Setup was unable .... on Windows Vista

I'm trying to install Adobe Acrobat 6.0 on my Vista laptop but just before install finished this error message came up:  Warning 20225 Adobe Acroba 6.0 was unable to create a new item: Adobe PDF converter.  the Adobe PDF printer may be unavailable.   GetLastError: Parameter is incorrect.
How can I fix this so I can finish installation, or does 6.0 not work with Vista, or do I need a patch file to work with Vista, etc??
    thx,
    John

If you can get AA6 to work on VISTA at all, it will only probably work by printing to file with the Adobe PDF printer. Then open the file in Distiller to complete the process. You could probably change the port used by the Adobe PDF printer to just be a file and then be able to use PDF Maker also. There is a possibility you will not be able to get AA6 to work at all. The first product to be certified for VISTA is AA8.1. Thus, do not bother calling Adobe about AA6 problems. They will simply tell you to upgrade and not talk to you further.
A few folks have apparently gotten AA7 to work on VISTA. I am not sure how successful they have been with the functionality, but with AA6 I have my doubts.

I've had adobe acrobat 7.0 for years, & just installed on my new toshiba m305-s4910 with a 64 bit operating system, & I'm unable to get the pdf printer to work.
    Getting this error:

    Ha! No such luck!
acrobat 7.0 printer function doesn't work on my 64 bit os & I'm apparently not alone.
From what I can find online, this problem has been around for years, & still there's no fix!
Am I just missing something & there really is a fix out there?
If there is, in simple english terms & directions please, could someone please point it out?
    Thanks, Donna

  • Acrobat 7: Warning 20225- Setup unable to create PDF Port Printer

I had to replace my computer and I am trying to install Acrobat 7 Pro on Windows 7. I read a comment that said it's not compatible, but others say it can work.  Since Adobe closed the activation server for CS2 & Acrobat 7, Adobe tech support gave me the link for the non-activating version of the exe file and new serial #. I was successful at installing CS2. Acrobat says the installation is successful and I am able to open Acrobat but at the end of install I got the Warning 20225: Setup unable to create a new item- Adobe PDF Port Printer. I tried to uninstall and change compatibility to XP, SP3 which is what my previous computer ran on, but still get same error every time. I don't use most the features of Acrobat so it doesn't make sense for me to buy a new version. Mostly, I just need to be able to print files to pdf (from Word, Illustrator, web). Any ideas of how to get this part working?

Thank you so much, Mylenium. I'm not sure if I'm setting up the printer right so please let me know where I am making errors.  I clicked "add a printer" and when it asks to choose a port, I left it as "use existiing port" and selected "File: Print to file". In the window to choose a printer, I clicked "Have Disk" and browsed to one of the .inf files (I ran a search in the Acrobat folder and found four .inf files shown below. I don't know which to use so tried each one)  but each time got the error message on the second screen shot below.
Do you know if there is a newer driver that is compatible with Windows 7?

  • WARNING 20225 - PDF Port and Printer

I recently bought a new computer and installed Adobe Acrobat 7.0 on it.  (Previously I had this software on my older computer where it worked just fine and sufficed for my needs.)
When I installed this on my new computer, I got the following error message: "Warning 20225.  Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Setup was unable to create a new item: Adobe PDF Port and Printer.  The Adobe PDF may be unavailable."
Sure enough, it is indeed "unavailable."
How do I fix this problem?

Open Start>Printers and right click on the Adobe PDF printer and select the properties. Under the port listing you should see it trying to use the Adobe PDF Port. Simply change that to File (Print to file). You may have to play a bit to configure this method, but it is a a work around. The PDF Maker may even work this way, but I have not tried that. You would have to then open the file in Distiller to create the PDF. You might be able to use a watched folder to automate the conversion a bit more, but all will require some trial and error. Do not be surprised if things do not work or seem messed up, that is the nature of trying to use backdoor methods like this. The alternative as suggested is to upgrade and AA X may be the last upgrade you will qualify for with AA7. Of course, the next version if probably 1.5 years down the road. If you can afford it at some point, I would suggest the upgrade and not continue the workaround, even if you can get it to work.
The workarounds depend on taking out of the loop the various parts of the system that are so OS dependent. AcroTray is one of those components for the print process. PDF Maker is the other big one that is so dependent on how MS wrote OFFICE. I find it interesting that some folks complain about Acrobat not working with OFFICE and then go to a 3rd party to get the same result they would have gotten with Acrobat if they had simply printed to the Adobe PDF printer, but no they insisted PDF Maker. PDF Maker did not work and so they moved on without asking the basic question of printing.
In any case, good luck. I am just running on and need to quit -- get some work done.

  • Error 1321  Warning 20225 (On Vista)

    Hi,
I have just installed Adobe creative suite 2 Premium - this product had previously been installed on a laptop and had been legally taken off and moved to the pc.
All seems well except I have the two error messages 1321 - the installer has insufficient privileges to modify acropdf.dll and warning 20225 unable to create pdf port& printer. I cannot ready any pdf files at the moment so this is a large problem. Any ideas?

I am not able to print to my adobe printer.  The box opens to save it, but once I hit print, I get the message "Error 20225 Unable to Create Adobe PDF Port & Printer".  How do I fix this? Is there a download available that I'm missing?

  • Trouble reinstalling Acrobat 7.0 on Windows 7 computer

I had to reinstall due to a registry error.  I am getting the message "Warning: 20225 Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Setup was unable to create a new item: Adobe PDF port printer. The Adobe PDF printer may be unavailable."  I did a search for this error, but the solution was not helpful.  What's next?

I guess it is unfortunate you did not backup AA8 to other media. If you have your old XP disks, you could just backup your current system (in case you want to come back) and then install XP over what you have. Unfortunately as new computers come out with the newer systems, they often have items that take advantage of the new OS and will not work with the older systems -- but reinstalling XP might be an option, particularly if you liked it.
You indicated a problem with the printer port. What I was asking you to do was check out various parts to see if there is hope of getting AA7 to work in any way. So the steps are checking the basic AA7 program out to see if it works. The AA7 installation includes Distiller. Distiller converts PS and EPS files to PDF. If both of these work then there is hope of a work around. What likely does not work is AcroTray that simply automates the process of taking the PS file the print driver creates and sending it to Distiller in the background to create a PDF. Assuming Acrobat and Distiller work, then there is hope.
IF the driver was installed (that is why I asked about the Adobe PDF printer), then you may be able to set the printer port to FILE -- use the properties of the printer under START>Printers> and right click on the Adobe PDF printer to set the port.
If the printer driver was not installed, then use the Add Printer in the Start>Printers screen to install one of the PS printers. Once installed you can initially try it out by printing from WORD or such to that printer with print-to-file selected. Open the file that is created in Distiller and see if you get a PDF. If so, again there is hope. To automate things a bit more, enter the properties of the PS printer you just created and change the name to Adobe PDF (that allows PDF Maker to work with the printer) and change the port to FILE (so you don't have to keep checking print to file. If you have problems with some of this, maybe you can get a friend to help.
The alternatives are to purchase a new version of AA XI (you can not upgrade from AA7) or look into one of the 3rd party PDF creation tools. Directing you to specific 3rd party products is not appropriate on this forum.

  • Installing printer on Acrobat 7

I just installed Acrobat 7.0 on my new computer running Windows 7. I got this error message:
    Warning 20225
Adobe Acrobat 7.0 setup was unable to create a new item:  Adobe PDF Port_printer. The Adobe PDF printer may be unavailable.
    Getlasterror: The operation completed successfully
I tried the installation again in the repair mode and got the same error message. Can anyone help?
    Thanks

I am not sure anyone has succeeded in getting AA7 to work with Win7. Some have AA8 running. Adobe will tell you to upgrade to AA9. You might try to run it in the compatibility mode for Win XP, but I do not know if that will do it.

  • I can't get InDesign CS3 to export a pdf properly

    Hi all,
Actually I have resolved the problem but I thought I share with you all.
I have done up a booklet in CS2, containing 70 over TIFF images, all of them with clipping path done in Photoshop. In between this project, I upgraded to CS3 from CS2. After I amended and saved the .indd file to CS3 version, I encountered problem exporting the booklet to pdf. The pathed text and images were missing from the pdf.
    1. I tried export the pages to JPG, everything looks fine.
    2. Thinking probably the .indd file size is too big. I deleted some pages and export to pdf again. Same problem.
    3. Then I read in the forum that some users encounter problem with TIFF images with clipping paths done up in Photoshop. BUT since I have 70 over images to re-save to psd as some suggested, I decide to put it aside first, hoping it's not clipping path that causes the problem.
    4. Fed up and desperate. I started troubleshooting by deleting one element at a time and try export to pdf. Elements like path text, rounded corners boxes, color-filled boxes, etc.
    5. FINALLY, I found out it was the dotted outline that causes the problem. I successfully exported the pdf after I remove the dotted outline! But client has approved the design and layout, so I can't simply remove the dotted outline! Luckily, I still able to export to pdf without error after I re-applied the dotted lines to the boxes.
If you encounter the same problem as me, probably you want to try re-apply all the dotted or any fancy line by setting it to 0pt, then to your desire thickness again. =)
Please share how you resolve your PDF error too!

  • I have Acrobat 7.0 Professional loaded on Windows 7; No Printer & error msgs

I have Adobe Acrobate 7.0 Professional, loaded onto a new Dell Inspiron N5010 clone where I have Windows 7. I installed the Acrobat successfully, but the virtual printer does not show up as an available printer in my Devices & Printers.  Also when I click on the desktop icon for Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional, I get these error messages:   There was an error while loading the plug-in 'Accessibility.api'. The plug-in failed to initialize.  Then when I click on the OK button, I get another pop-up window saying:  There was an error while loading the plug-in 'AcroForm.api'.  The plug-in failed to initialize.  Then when I click on the OK button, I get a final pop-up window saying: There was an error while loading the plug-in Annots.api. The plug-in failed to initialize.  Anybody ever get this set of issues???, and if so....Help!  I would be ever so grateful.  I am worried that Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional is incompatible with Windows 7.  I know that if so, it might mean I need to buy 9.0.  Can I just upgrade?  Is that less costly?  Many thanks to anyone who can offer some advice.  ---DMN

Further to this original post ---  OK, I uninstalled and then reinstalled the program, to no avail.  I did however get a message which I had gotten before but since I was not yet aware that the program got installed with any problems, I had not noticed... This time I took notice.  The error message was clearly what it is about, at least to a great extent.  I got this message:  Warning 20225: Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Setup was unable to create a new item:  Adobe PDF Port Printer may be unavailable.  GetLastError:  The operation completed successfully.  So then after the reinstallation, I went into Control Panel, Printers & Drivers and made a valiant attempt to manually install a virtual printer port.  I have Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional installed in another computer on which I have Windows XP Pro (yes the only other computer--  I am permitted two installations for this program--  I confirmed this with Adobe), by looking at Properties and copying down exactly the text, etc. which described the names of the two possible ports, etc.  Tried to "tell" my new computer (the one which has Windows 7) that it should set up and/or look for such a virtual port, again to no avail.  I am amazed that Adobe does not allow me to even pay cash money for tech support, but they wouldn't do it.  I guess you can have just so many employees who know the programs, etc.  Anyway, as I said before I may just break down and buy the 9.0 version which the Adobe techie told me is indeed compatable with Windows 7.  He did not tell me that Windows 7 was incompatible with Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional but that 8.0 is indeed incompatible.  Just googled the term "Warning 20225" along with some relevant buzz words.  I can see there is still a bit of tweaking I may be able to do before I cry "uncle!"

  • Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Pro Printer will not install

    Hello All,
I have a new PC - Win 7 Pro x64 - and installing Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Pro.  The printer refuses to install.  Gives error:
Warning 20225.  Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Setup was unable to create a new item: Adobe PDF Port and Printer.  The Adobe PDF  Printer may be unavailable.  GetLastError:  The operation completed successfully.
I tried the Detect and Repair under Help, and I get the same error.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I think that will be your solution. The printer driver is not compatible with newer systems, especially 64-bit ones.

  • Adobe PDF Port_Printer didn't install with re-installation of Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional.

A new Windows 7 OS was installed on my computer and I've had to re-load Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional.  Everything loaded except for Adobe PDF Printer.  Error message: Warning 20225. Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Setup was unable to create a new item: Adobe PDF Port-Printer. The Adobe PDF Printer may be unavailable.      I'm using the original CD to set up Adobe.  Any idea on why I'm getting this message?

The first version of Acrobat to support Windows 7 is version 9.2 - so this is why you are encountering issues. To troubleshooting the problem, you might find this article helpful Error "Warning 20225" or no PDF Printer appears.
