  • Permissions Warning Message -- What does this mean?

    I was helping my mother (over the phone) to Repair Permissions in Disk Utility since her Mac Mini was experiencing some odd glitches like not being able to restart or shut down. Everything else seems to work fine.
    When repairing permissions she got this message:
    *+Warning: SUID File "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARD Agent.tp/Contents/MacOS/ARD Agent" has been modified and will not be repaired.+*
    Does anyone know what this means and if it could be the source of her problem? She is using OS 10.6.0 Snow Leopard, updated recently from OS 10.5 Leopard at an Apple Store. Thanks.

    this message is harmless and should be ignored. everybody gets it.

    What does this message mean? "Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired"  I get this when I try to repair permissions in disk utility.

    It's an innocuous error you can ignore. It was introduced with previous updates for ARD and/or Java before Lion. These are messages, not errors. They will cause no harm, and they will be repeated each time you repair permissions.

    The opperating system I am using is 10.7.4, and updating to the latest version currently. Computer is running fine, except that when I did some utility repairs, I got the warning above, and not really sure what do, in regards to repairing it correctly, not just getting the message off of my computer.

  • CS3 pdf export - what does this warning mean?

    I'm exporting an InDesign file to pdf. It's 70+ pages of black and white, no colour, one page with four grayscale photos. The Summary section of the pdf export dialogue has a warning symbol, and says this: "1) The preset specifies source profiles that don't match the current color settings file. Profiles specified by the color settings file will be used." Can anyone explain what this means, and more importanly whether or not it might impede printing?

    I do a lot of B&W print output from InDesign, with images imported from Photoshop. There is something you should be aware of for B&W if you are printing your documents professionally or in newsprint. Sometimes your printer will be able to take your PDF in any form and make it 'fit' their process, but I've found many can't, don't, or just won't go to the trouble. They leave that up to you.
    In particular, what I've found is that when printing B&W at a printer, they may use a digital printer or they may use a 4-color press (almost always more expensive due to setup, etc.). However, the PDF you prepare for them will be different for each case. Some printers will tell you that for B&W you should only have data on the K channel (the black channel in the CMYK file - they ignore the other channels altogether). If you give them a PDF with rich blacks (which will look good on screen) that is made up of all four (CMYK) colors, then it is likely that your blacks in the final print will be more like a dark grey than true black. This is because they may only use the data on the K channel and put down black in in that quantity, which might be less than 100%. If you import your images from PS as greyscale, then they should import into InDesign as a CMYK image with 100% K and 0% CMY anywhere there is black in the image. When creating your PDF from InDesign, you have to be careful about your output options too. If you choose any preset where it "Converts to Destination", then your 0 0 0 100% black will be converted and reseparted to rich black, and if the printer only takes the K channel, it won't be 100% black. I always use the Separations View in Acrobat on any PDF to ensure that any data in my B&W file is truly just 100%K with 0% CMY. (Actually, it's not quite this simple. There are a lot more intricacies involved.)
    In addition, if you are sending your B&W file to newsprint, on a page where they print all four colors, then you'll want to use Rich Black. If the page you will be printed on uses black ink only, then you'll want to use the K channel only. This all sounds very complex and confusing, and that's because it is. In addition, it changes every time you change your print provider because they all use different processes, presses, workflows, etc. The safest way is to ask your printer to provide you with a .joboptions file that you can use to create your PDF from InDesign. It will have all the settings you need for their setup (although you still may have to worry about your image profiles if they assume you've included them with the profile they will be expecting, either tagged or untagged).
    I've been doing this for years and it's a struggle each and every time I change anything (paper, process, 4 color vs K only, printer, press). Once you have a printer and process figured out, and have created your own .joboptions file, it takes only seconds to create a proper PDF for the job. Until that point, it is a lot of heartache and headscratching. In addition, most people I talk to at the printers I've used just don't seem to be that knowledgeable about color management, even the graphic artists that work there.

    Me too.
    I'm playing an iTunes video that I downloaded and is in my movies folder, then the AUDIO/VIDEO synchronization mismatch.  I check Console and get "iTunes AVF Warning:  retireCmdAsynch ....q size = 12, releasing oldest CVPixelBuffer"
    Which now that I read it, makes sense with symptom.  "Asynch"  "PixelBuffer"
    Problem is, I don't know how to solve this issue.  It doesn't happen on every video, but would appreciate some sighted advice.
    Thanks,

  • What does this link warning mean? can't add line info to anonymous symbol

    I am working towards getting rid of all link warnings, but I am getting three that I don't quite understand and a google search for this warning hasn't been helpful.
    The output to Xcode looks like:
    ld: warning: can't add line info to anonymous symbol __ZN16CLineAlignWidgetD0Ev.lsda from /path/to/CLineAlignWidget.o
    What causes this warning and what can be done to fix it?
    I have looked at the CLineAlignWidget class and it looks like other classes which aren't generating this warning.

  • What is this warning message?

    In my MyVewController.h file, I have a function called:
    -(void) loadDefaults:(BOOL)saveFilter saveImage:(BOOL)saveImage;
    In my MyVewController.m file, I defined:
    -(void) loadDefaults:(BOOL)loadFilter loadImage:(BOOL)loadImage
    NSLog(@"Load defaults");
    Also in my MyVewController.m, I called the function as:
    [self saveDefaults:YES saveImage:NO];
    The compiler always complains that:
    "MyVewController may not respond to '-loadDefaults:loadImage:'
    {Message without a matching method signature will be assumed to return 'id' and accept '...' as arguments.
    What does this mean?

    Two things. First, when dealing with either a compiler or asking for help here, you must be very precise and exact. Close just isn't good enough. What method are you defining and calling? It is "loadDefaults:loadImage:" or "loadDefaults:saveImage:". Until you get that sorted out, you are just spinning your wheels.
    Once you do get the correct method name, if you are still getting the compiler message, make sure you are "#import"-ing MyViewController.h in the .m file where you call that method.

  • What is this hidden "feature" in mobile Safari for and how can I use it?

    OK, one day, like any geek would, I was in the car messing with my iPod touch. I was playing in Safari, typing in email addresses and such to get the exciting "WARNING - PHISHING SITE" screen. So I then tried typing "/" into the address bar, and when I hit "go", something interesting happened. The "/" changed to "file:///", and it tried to load it, but then popped up with an error message that said "This page could not be opened because it is a local file". Now I'm not new to the "file:///" thing, and I've used it to access folders using Chrome that Explorer wasn't showing for some reason. So, what if that tag used for? Obviously Apple has a use for it somehow since they included a little shortcut to get to it. I'll post some screenshots below so you can see what everything looks like:
    So if this happens to have any use at all, I'd like to know about it!
    I also asked this question over here:  http://lockergnome.net/questions/157444/what-is-this-hidden-feature-in-mobile-sa fari-for-and-how-can-i-use-it

    That is a shortcut for opening a file locally stored on the iPod. This is not really useful since iOS does not permit such access to its file sustem.

    Sounds like you might have enabled "Agent extensions manage the deployment of applications and software updates" in Client Settings.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg682067.aspx
    From the online documentation:
    Enable this option only if one of the following conditions apply:
    You use a vendor solution that requires this setting to be enabled.
    You use the System Center 2012 Configuration Manager software development kit (SDK) to manage client agent notifications and the installation of applications and software updates.
    Warning:
    If you select this option when neither of these conditions apply, software updates and required applications will not install on clients.
