Warning about wireless keyboard batteries for HP Touchsmart IQ504 and iQ506

I wanted to post this information in hopes others will not have to go thru what I just did.  HP wireless keyboards will not work properly with AAA Duracell batteries.
We have both an IQ504 & IQ506 and they are both a year old.  The keyboard began omitting letters when typing, so I decided to change the batteries in the IQ504 wireless keyboard.
I pulled out both the old AAA Energizer batteries and popped in 2 new Duracell AAA batteries.  Spent about an hour trying to reconnect the wireless keyboard to the wireless receiver on the computer.  No way could I get the two to pair.  Got out the manual and everything, I ran thru the steps over and over, restarted the computer over and over and pulled he USB wireless receiver out of the computer, over and over.
I ended up taking the whole unit, keyboard, mouse and power supply to Best Buy as I had an extended warranty.  The Geek Squad guy spent another 1/2 hours trying all of this over and over.  Left it there for Best Buy to order a new keyboard.
The next morning, the wireless keyboard on the IQ506 began omitting letters, so I took out the Energizer batteries and popped in Duracells.  Guess what, repeat of previous day.  Now I have 2 Touchsmart computers without functioning keyboards.
Finally, in desperation, I dug the old Energizer batteries of of the trash, put them back in and poof, the keyboard connects instantly.  So a quick trip to the store for new Energizers, good to go, instant connection.
Drove over to Best Buy, handed him 2 Energizers, problem solved.
HP wireless keyboards will not work properly with AAA Duracell batteries.  You've been warned !
What was I thinking when I bought an HP ?
Oh yea, I wasn't !

LOL - there are 4 batteries not 2 batterys - I initially only replaced 3 because I only had 3 new duracell batteries at the time, later i found 4 duracell ultra battereis and replaced them all - keyboard worked fine.

After updating to iOS 6 my iPod Touch 4th.Gen is virtually unusable ... does anyone know how to sue Apple since they gave no warning about iOS 6 being for iPad optimisation and a killer for iPods ?  Before I throw away my iPod Touch does anyone know if Apple intends to rectify their obnoxious disregard for iPod users by issuing another 'upgrade' which will allow iPods to work without the constant system crashes that iOS 6 has caused ?

Contact a lawyer if you want to sue.
    Otherwise try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

I have an ipad3 and wireless keyboard but for the life on me can not type a pound (GBP) symbol - can anyone help?

I would think you'd have to change the language to British English to get the pound sign. THat or turn off your wireless keyboard and get the pound sign from the on screen keyboard, then turn your wireless board back on.

  • My iMac is looking for wireless keyboard but I have a usb and it is plugged in.

my iMac is looking for wireless keyboard but I have a usb and it is plugged in. Right now I am using the one from my old computer. This happened once before and I unplugged/plugged in, restarted. Didn't work. Repeated several times, it finally worked. This time not so much. Any one else have this problem and know how to solve it?

Try turning off Blue Tooth in its respective preference panel. Do not try using the USB keyboard in a USB extender. Connect directly to the computer.

If you want to get a little more "exotic" you can try remapping the function keys.  I did a little google searching and the hits that looked promising are,

  • Question about wireless keyboards

I have a question. On the wirelesss keyboards, are there two usb ports because on one side it looks like theres a power button, but whats on the other side? I hate wires and batteries but Im not sure what to get.

    Ha!
I've finally found an answer to someone's question on these forums! If you agree, please click the "solved" button (or whatever it is) so I can finally get a credit for answering one question.
The left and right sides of the wireless keyboard are shown on this page:
    http://www.apple.com/keyboard/
Just click the images to enlarge them. It looks to me like the one side of the keyboard has a power button and the other side has a place to insert the batteries.

  • Wireless Keyboard Shortcut for Home Key

I have the wireless keyboard w/o the keypad which I use with my Mini.
On my MBP, the fn-Up Arrow key combination functions as the Home key on keyboards with the built-in keypad. This shortcut doesn't work on the wireless keyboard.
Do I have to define the shortcut in the SysPre/KB Shortcuts? Or is there something I need to turn on? Or...?
    TIA.

Well, it works today. Problem solved. Thanks for looking.

  • Re: Warning about taglib in NitroX for Struts 2.0

This is because NitroX 2.0 is smarter about JSP 2.0 and servlet 2.4.
In the web.xml version 2.4 the taglib tags should be nested inside a
<jsp-config> tag. Actually, the next NitroX build will report an error about
    this.

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard (white version) has stuck light and won't pair

I never usually turn my keyboard off or shut down my computer, but a change of routine compelled to do so. My computer will turn on just fine, but now the my white Apple Wireless Keyboard has a stuck green light on the caps lock and the bottom switch. It is no longer pairing and can no longer be detected through OS's Bluetooth utilities. I have tried turning it on and off, replacing batteries, and even removing it from Bluetooth favorites.
Is the keyboard finally broken? Any light in this problem is helpful.
Currently using an iMac G5 20" 2.0 GHz (ambient sensor version) running Mac OS X 10.4.11.

    Hi J.A:
It sounds suspiciously like a KB problem. Do you have access to another BT-equipped Apple or to an Apple store. If you do, you could try the KB there.
You could reset the PRAM to see if that helps (although I doubt it will):

  • Wireless Connection Problems for Home Hub 3 and Vi...

We have upgraded from BT Home Hub 2 to version 3 and had a BT man (engineer) visit to set it up. He did so with no problems on our PC (wired, runnning XP) and installed all relevant software on the PC and this is connected which so far has been fast (enough - as expected) and reliable. Once the 'main' computer in the house was connected we then tried to connect other things to the internet using this BT Hub 3.
However when attempting to connect our family laptop (running Vista) we hit trouble. Initially I tried to use the icon in the tray (bottom right of the screen) by clicking on connect to a network, then selecting our hub, then inputting the wireless key and going through the menus correctly. It would only connect 'locally' and not recognise the hub. It says identifying then says unidentified (public network BT Hub 3) and only 'local' access which I then change to private network. With my preivious internet I was able to set it up as Home network - now I can only choose between public or private BUT NOT Home, Work or Public.
So I then tried the BT disc that comes with the hub into the laptop. I go through the menus - it asks is the broadband light steady blue? Yes. Click next to continue wireless set up. So I press continue. It then asks for the wireless network/SSID BTHub3- numbers and letters and the wireless key. So I put that in correctly (double checking) and click next. It then says Connecting to your Hub which then gets ticked but then the checking wireless key doesn't tick - it crosses, and says failed. It asks me to check I typed the numbers and letters correctly (I am sure of that) and It goes to Manuel set up. Where I select my hub and again type in the wireless key and click next. But the same thing happens - connecting to your hub gets ticked but checking wireless key fails.
I then get a message that says i should do a wired set up, which I can do and works but on the laptop wired solutions is just not satisfactory - laptops need wireless connectivity. Is this a problem with my laptop, Vista or the hub/modem or a combination.
I also have been able to connect other things to the internet such as a netbook (running Windows 7) and a games console. Please comment if anthing needs explaining or more detail. Your help will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

John46: I uninstalled the Hub programmes you said to. I then tried to connect to a network (wirelessly - accessed either by going to Start - Connect to or from the icon in the tray (bottom right). I selected my hub and clicked connect. It does its thing and says 'successfully connected to...' I close that and go onto Network and Sharing Center and it shows its trying to identify the network and wait a few seconds it then shows 'unidentified network (public network)...' and that I have only got local access and so cannot surf the web.
As I mentioned in my earlier post:
With my previous Internet I was able to set it up as Home network - now I can only choose between public or private BUT not got the choice between Home, Work or Public.
    Hope I've explained myself.
