Warning after running disk permissions

After running disk permissions on my internal hard drive I get the following message:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Does any one know what this means?

This is one of the most common bugs being reported about Leopard, and has to do with the installation of the Remote Desktop Client software update through Software Update. There is no official fix for this, and repairing permissions in general seems to be quite problematic with Leopard.
If your system seems otherwise stable and free from major problems, it may be worth waiting for Apple to take care of this via another software update or some other remedy.

Repairing Permission only deals with installer receipts and system components. Not with mounting or accessing hard drives.
Have your run Apple DU First Aid? Disk Warrior? Only use latest version for your OS.
Are you trying to clone your system to external and then repairing permissions? trying to boot from them?
If cloning, make sure the "Ignore Ownership" flag is unchecked before cloning (but do repair permissions on external drives you intend to boot from, such as a Firewire drive).
What type of cases and interface are these?

My computer has been crashing a lot. Apple ran hardware tests and everything appears to be running OK. Could this message hold the key to my problems?

However it would be very beneficial if you provide more information about the circumstances and specifications of your iMac to determine why it's crashing. Also if you are running Activity Monitor to check and see how much FREEE RAM you have and if there are any processes taking up a lot of % CPU.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time when you had the problem. Select the messages logged after the boot, during the time something abnormal was happening. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

Can't turn off Verbose Mode after running disk defrag in minimal environment using Drive Genius 3

New to posting on here. I'm using a
Mid-2009 15in MacBook Pro
2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4 GB memory
After running Disk Defrag in a minimal environment using Drive Genius 3 my MacBook Pro only starts up in Verbose Mode.
I've done my searching on how to turn verbose mode on and off on the web and it gets me nowhere.
Using
sudo nvram –p
in terminal shows that there is no " v" after " boot-args "
Using
sudo nvram boot-args=
to turn it off hasn't done anything.

I'm having the same issue but the solution suggested by prosoft doesn't work because that file des not exist.
Prosoft was able to help me.
First, FileVault is not reccomended and they are adding a FAQ to address that. Next, they said to trash this file:
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist
and to restart. It seemed to have worked for me.
If anyone has any other suggestions then I would be grateful.

Warning checking/repairing disk permissions

While checking and attempting to repair disk permissions using Apple's Disk Utility, the following message appeared:

I am running OS X 10.5.1 - how can this be corrected? Should I reload the system software?

Error after running Disk Utility, do I need to replace disk drive?

Don't know much about MACS, switched from PC to MAC, will NEVER go back, I asked the person what they think and said " sounds like I have to replace my Disk Drive, I recently replace the Hard Drive, still new to MACS so don't know my way around yet, still trying to learn more, any suggestions mag subscriptions, books in plain english?

What's the difference between buttons *" Verify Disk Permissions & Verify Disk "*?
After I run Verify Disk Permissions, the outcome is fine, but after I run Verify Disk, I get the error message above.
So once getting the error message, I'd click the *" repair disk permissions "*, I get "

But soon after its been repaired, I click the " Verify Disk " again just to see if it'd give me the same error message, its the same every time.

Hi, hellopinky. The error messages you're seeing don't necessarily indicate that you need to repair your hard drive. Your drive could be failing, and that might cause the reported problems, but there are other causes for those errrors besides a failing drive. If the S.M.A.R.T. status indicated in the First Aid tab of Disk Utility says "Verified", your drive is probably fine. If the S.M.A.R.T. status is "Failing", replace the drive immediately. That indicates a hardware problem that no software can fix.
"Repair Disk" and "Repair Disk Permissions" address two different classes of software problems. The former button repairs (or tries to repair) problems with the directory that records what's on your hard drive and where on the drive each item is stored. The latter button checks to make sure the read/write permissions for your files are correct, and if not, it corrects them.
The "Verify" buttons for Disk and for Permissions carry out the same checking routines as the "Repair" options, but they don't try to correct anything — they only report what they find. If there's a problem on my hard drive, I want it corrected, not just reported. So I consider the "Verify" options to be a real waste of time, and I never use them.
Your permissions appear to be fine, but your disk directory is damaged in at least one way that Disk Utility hasn't repaired. If you haven't run the "Repair Disk" routine yet (I can't tell from your post), do that now, and see whether it reports that the problems have been fixed. If it does, run it repeatedly until you get two successive reports showing a clean bill of health: no problems found or repaired.
If "Repair Disk" reports problems that it couldn't fix, or if you can't get two successive "clean" runs after half a dozen tries, you'll need a stronger, third-party disk utility such as DiskWarrior to repair the directory, or else you'll need to reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything on it from scratch — that will clear away the old, damaged directory, but is very time-consuming. Leaving a damaged disk directory unrepaired will eventually lead to loss of data, kernel panics, and other potentially serious consequences you really don't want to experience, so don't just ignore the problem.

I just repaired disk permissions on my iMac, does the history look OK? Plenty of WARNINGS at the end of the history. I am not too concerned with the ACL stuff.

Warning when running Disk Utility

I installed Snow Leopard without issue on Friday, but when I run Disk Utility on my hard drive, I get the following message:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
I never received this message under Leopard. Can anyone tell me if it is a problem I can overlook or a more serious issue? Anything I can do to fix it? Thanks so much!

Having used my computer for several days I decided to use Disk Utility to “Repair Disk Permissions” after a few hours of use.

I shut down the computer, turned off its power for 1 minute and restarted. I initiated Disk Utility once again.

and why after restarting should I end up with only

and after “Clear History” and rerunning Disk Utility why is everything clear until I start using the computer again?
I’ve had it explained that “Group differs on "private/etc/cups", should be 0, group is 26” is not meaningful, but I’d like to know WHY it happens. I’d also like to know why “ Permissions differ on "private/var/log/secure.log", should be -rw------- , they are -rw-r----- .” initially appears.

As a casual "Apple Discussions" user it hadn't occurred to me that if a question had been answered previously, it should never be asked again.
It's not that. It's because the problem's been beaten to death over the past fourteen months, since Apple shipped Leopard, that most consider it common knowledge, no matter where one's been visiting or how often. Every Apple/Macintosh related website has addressed the never ending issue. Finally, since the forums Help file says:

All external Drives stopped mounting after repair disk permissions

My 2.3 GhzPPC G5 10.4.11 was running a bit slow so I ran repair disk permissions and now none of my external drives will mount, can't see them in disk utility either.
Drives work fine on my macbook pro.
I've searched for help but no luck..

Neil, you really should repair the disk before repairing permissions.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
"Try Disk Utility
1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

Mini kernel panic after repairing disk permissions

Repaired disk permissions per others' advice on here and other forums because my mini was running unacceptably slow. This didn't cure the problem so I used the tech tools disk that came with apple care- now, I get a kernel panic upon startup. I'm asked to restart the computer, I do it- and then I'm asked again!
I called apple and they were defensive and rude. Frankly they didn't seem to care about whether or not I'd have to wipe my hard drive. Needless to say this is not something I want to do.
It seems important to mention that I had an external hard drive connected to my computer- would this matter?
Would repairing disk permissions CAUSE problems with my computer?
When the disk repair program ran it said that there was a volume error- it fixed this error and then told me that the volume was error free.
What can I do? I'm so frustrated! I love my computer and I really don't want to wipe the hard drive!

Apple uses a three number versioning system so you are almost there, but not quite.
MacOS officially does not exist anymore. However, it wouldn't go over well with the then user base to call their next operating system for their computers NeXTstep as they felt the entire identy of a Mac was its OS or more specifically its look and feel.
So they called it Mac OS 10 instead, opting for the roman numeral X.

This continues on sequentially until theoretically the bugs are all fixed in the product but in reality means until the next significant release comes out; Leopard, OS 10.5.
You should always be prepared for the possibility that a bugfix release may contain a security patch that significantly modifies and aspect of the file system that may break a disk utility application. In other words you always have to be vigilant with regards to that class of application.

Shell Script or Applescript to run disk permissions repair

Tried doing this Applescript in Automator:

password "yourAdminPassword" with administrator privileges
This works, but the process appears to run without shutting down when it's done.
Can anybody suggest an addition or modification to terminate when the permissions repair is completed?

Hard drive won't mount after running disk utility repair

I have an iMac with a 320gb hard drive. It will not mount. The small horible wheel started sining so I retared. It could not find the start-up disk. I restared with the CD, after doing this twice the disk was visible in disk untility. I have ran this 3 times and it says the node is incorrect and it cannot be reapired by Disk Untility. It will not mount.
Is there any other way to save the disk so I can get my files off.

You would need the Firewire cable. If you get one then you can use Target Disk Mode - Transferring files between two computers using FireWire to transfer your files to another drive.
