Warning in Windows server 2012 R2 Set-VMReplication with Enable Write Order Preservation Across Disks 1

When I run the following command I get the following warning? Can anyone help out with this?
Set-VMReplication -VMName server123 -EnableWriteOrderPreservationAcrossDisks 1
WARNING: 'EnableWriteOrderPreservationAcrossDisks' is not required for 'Set-VMReplication'.
Please mark my post as helpful or the answer or better yet.... both! :) Thanks!

I have this issue. I have given my DCs and DHCP servers fixed IPv6 addresses, and every time I enable an IPv6 scope the all get a second IPv6 address from the scope, which is also published do DNS and then the next time I reboot a domain controller there
is complete confusion.
My objectives (which I am finding hard to achieve) are:
- fixed IP addresses for all systems (in IPv4 I use static IPs on servers and DHCP reservations on workstations)
- I control the gateways. If my official gateways are down I want no connectivity to the Internet, I don't want anything configuring itself.

  • How to activate Windows Server 2012 Datacenter evaluation version with product key provided on MSDN's student account

    Hi,
    I downloaded
Windows Server 2012 Evaluation Version recently. Actually, I wanted to check whether i could run Windows Phone 8 emulator on Win server 2012 using my core2duo (Non-SLAT PC). Now i wanted to activate the evaluated version by using product key of my
MSDN's student account. But its giving error when i enter my product key. I checked this article about converting evaluation version to full retail version. The article
    says :
"If the server is a domain controller, you cannot convert it to a retail version. In this case, install an additional
domain controller on a server that runs a retail version and remove AD DS from the domain controller that runs on the evaluation version."
So kindly guide as to how I can install this additional domain controller and how to remove AD DS from domain controller. Currently, I have Dual Boot PC( win 8.1 and win server 2012).
Hoping to get a brief response....

Unless you have configured a whole lot of things into the DC running on the evaluation copy (should never install production on an evaluation copy), it would be simplest to start from scratch and reinstall.
Or, you simply go into Server Manager > Manage > Add Roles and Features to remove the AD role.  Then you will be back to a workgroup server.
The evaluation version is good for 180 days plus three re-arms of 30 days each.  So you can do a lot of experimenting with the evaluation copy without the need for using an MSDN key.

  • Using Windows Server 2012 VL Product key with Windows Server 2012 R2

    Hi all,
Trying to use a Server 2012 vl product key to active a Server 2012 R2, but running into issues, namely it is not accepting the key. I have read many threads pointing out that different keys are required, but no mention of the process that one needs
to take in order to obtain/swap product keys? Any ideas appreciated? :)

The product key I have is for Windows Server 2012 Standard VL, (It's not a DC).
I have downloaded the evaluation iso for Windows Server 2012 R2 and want to licence it (with a VL), but it is failing with the Windows Server Standard 2012 VL product key.
My question is - am I doing something wrong, or do I need to ask Microsoft to change the product key / buy a new one? - What steps do I need to take?
The product key for WS2012 will not work for WS2012R2. (so, yeah, you're doing that wrong)
    WS2012R2 is not a "free" upgrade from WS2012 (it's different to Win8.0 -> Win8.1)
Your WS2012 pkey will work with WS2012. To use WS2012R2 you need a WS2012R2 pkey.
If you want to "convert" an evaluation license install, into a full licensed install, you must match the version (2012 vs. 2012R2) and the edition, and must use DISM as well as the correct pkey.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj574204.aspx
If you don't have the correct pkey for WS2012R2 already, and you don't have one waiting for you in the Volume Licensing Service Center website, you'll need to purchase a new license for WS2012R2.

    Hello,
on the Windows Core machine itself follow:
Determine the index number for a Server with a GUI image (for example, SERVERDATACENTER, not SERVERDATACENTERCORE) with Get-WindowsImage-ImagePath<path to wim>\install.wim.
    •Run Install-WindowsFeatureServer-Gui-Mgmt-Infra,Server-Gui-Shell –Restart –Source c:\mountdir\windows\winsxs

  • Windows server 2012 R2 clustering issue with disks

we have a two node cluster
we have volumes configurred on both the clusters.we are using  EVA san storage.
    Data(C:\ClusterStorage\Volume1)
    Logs(C:\ClusterStorage\Volume2)
i am able to change/move Clustered disk drives from owner node A to Owner node B.I cannot see the clustered drives on both active/passive nodes.
i am also not able to view the volumes on node b in the windows explorer. Can someone please tell me how to look at the volumes once we move between the drives on the cluster.
    Thank you
    lucky

Since you are showing us that you have configured Cluster Shared Volumes, that means there are no volumes to be seen in Windows Explorer.  This is expected behavior.  When you create Cluster Shared Volumes, the cluster software creates reparse
or mount points for the volumes.  That is what the C:\ClusterStorage\Volumex is - it is pointing to the actual volume.  When you want to use storage, you need to point to C:\ClusterStorage\Volumex and whatever subdirectory you create for the location.
CSVs are not meant to be used by all applications.  They were initially designed for Hyper-V.  But that is not how you would set up you cluster if you want to offer a something like a regular file share.

  • Windows 8.1 Pro cannot log into RemoteApp running on Windows Server 2012 R2

I have setup a vm running Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and have enabled multiple RemoteApps.  Everything is setup correctly and I can use RD Web Access to access the portal and connect to the remoteapps from any computer except my own.  I am
running Windows 8.1 Pro and when I log into the RD Web Access portal, click on one of the apps,  it looks like it's loading the session, but gets stuck on Preparing Windows.  Everything else up to that point looks like it loads correctly, (i.e. -
Applying Group Policy Settings, applying desktop, etc...).  When I log into my Windows 7 dev machine, I can access and run everything just fine.  So there must be something between the Windows 8 and 2012 that isn't working quite right.
I have tried logging into the portal as myself and test users...same result.
    any ideas?
    Jon Wooten

i think there is something in your GPOs or collection settings causing an issue
this happens with any remote app, built-in stuff like notepad or just third party apps?
try not doing any kind of printer/device redirection from that host
you can also do winlogon logging to get a better idea of what's going on during the logon operation
you can also use the verbose logon messages GPO to get detailed login status info
if all else fails I think you need to isolate it by creating a test collection and test user with the bare minimum options

  • Set up Search Service App For SharePoint server 2013 on Windows server 2012 R2 not working

    Hi all,
I installed SharePoint server 2013 on Windows  server 2012 R2 using VirtualBox.  I created a DC(domain controller) server with a domain set up on one VM and it has SQL server 2012 SP1 installed. Then SharePoint 2013 on another VM was set up to access
the DC server.  Everything seems working except Search Service App which cannot be sucessfully set up. Creation process for Search service app says Successful and 4 search databases were created and look fine. But when I navigate to search service app
admin page, it gives error info:
System status:  The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component '386f2cd6-47ca-4b3a-aeb5-d9116772ef16' in search application 'Search Service Application 1' is in

Since separate DC server and SharePoint server do not work, I installed SharePoint 2013 on DC server ( so DC server has everything on it now ) but it gives exactly same result. Later I installed SharePoint 2013 SP1 and still have the same problem with Search
Service app. I spent two weeks tried all suggestions available from Web and Google but SharePoint Search Service simply does not work. Config and other databases work but why Search Service has this issue seemingly related to search DB.
Could anybody please help out? You deserve a top SharePoint consultant award if you could find a solution. I am so frustrated and so tired by this issue.    This seems also to be a SP set up issue.
    Thanks a lot.

Using new Search Service App wizard to create SSA is always a success. I could delete existing SSA and recreate it and no problem. It says successful but when I open Search Admin page from CA, it gives me errors as mentioned.
Now I used the following PS script for creating SSA from Max Mercher, but it stays at the last setps in following script:

Account mydomain\admin is an farm managed account, domain admin account, in WG_ADMIN role, It is in all SQL server roles and is DBO. I see search DBs are already on SQL server. From Event viewer, I got following errors in sequence:

  • VirtualDisk on Windows Server 2012 R2 Storage Pool stuck in "Warning: In Service" state and all file transfers to and from is awfully slow

    Greetings,
I'm having some trouble with my Windows Storage Pool and my VirtualDisk running on a Windows Server 2012 R2 installation. It consists of 8x Western Digital RE-4 2TB drives + 2x Western Digital Black Edition 2TB drives and have been configured in a single-disk
parity setup and the virtual disk is running fixed provisioning (max size) and is formatted with ReFS.
It's been running solid for months besides some awful write-speeds at times, it seems like the write performance running ReFS compared to NTFS is not that good.
I was recommended to add SSD's for journalling in order to boost write-performance. Sadly I seemed to screw up this part, you need to due this through PowerShell and it needs to be done before creating the virtualdisk. I managed to add my SSD to the Storage
    Pool and then remove it.
This seem to have caused some awkward issues, I'm not quite sure of why as the virtualdisk is "fixed" so adding the SSD to the Storage Pool shouldn't really do anything, right? But after I did this my virtual disk have been stuck in "Warning:
In Service" and it seems to be stuck? It's been 4-5 days and it's still the same and the performance is currently horrible. Moving 40GB of data off the virtual disk took me about 20 hours or so. Launching files under 1mb of the virtual disk takes several
minutes etc.. It's pretty much useless.
The GUI is not providing any useful information about what's going on. What does "Warning: In Service" actually imply? How am I supposed to know how long this is supposed to take? Running Get-Virtualdisk in PowerShell does not provide any useful
information either. I did try to do a repair through the Server Manager GUI but it goes to about 21% within 2-3 hours but drops back down to 10%. I have had the repair running for days but it wont go past 21% without dropping back down again.
Running repair through PowerShell yields the same results, but if I detach the virtual disk and then try to repair through PowerShell (the GUI wont let me do repair on detached virtual disks) it will just run for a split second and then close.
After doing some "Googeling" I've seen people mentioning that the repair is not able to finish unless I have at least the same amount of free space in the Storage Pool as the largest drive in my Storage Pool is housing so I added a 4TB drive as
due to me running fixed provisioning I had used all the space in the pool but the repair is still not able to go past 21%.
As am running "fixed provisioning" I guess adding a extra drive to the pool doesn't do much difference as it's not available for the virtual disk? So I went ahead and deleted 3 TB of data on the virtual disk so now I've got about 4 TB free space
on the virtual disk so there should be plenty of room for Windows Server 2012 R2 to re-build the parity or whatever it's trying to do but it's still the same, the repair wont move past 21% and the virtual disk is still stuck in "Warning: In Service"
mode and the performance keeps being horrible so taking a backup will take forever at these speeds...
Am I missing something here? All the drives in the pool is working fine. I have verified using various bootable tools so why is this happening and what can I do to get the virtual disk running at full state again? Why doesn't the GUI prompt you with any
    kind of usable information?
    Best regards, Thomas Andre

    Hi,
Please run chkdsk /f /r command on the virtual disk to have a try. In the meantime, run the following commands in PowerShell to share the output.
    get-virtualdisk -friendlyname <name> | get-physicaldisk | fl
    get-virtualdisk -friendlyname <name> |fl

  • (Request for:) Best practices for setting up a new Windows Server 2012 r2 Hyper-V Virtualized AD DC

Could you please share your best practices for setting up a new Windows Server 2012 r2 Hyper-V Virtualized AD DC, that will be running on a new WinSrv 2012 r2 host server.   (This
will be for a brand new network setup, new forest, domain, etc.)
    Specifically, your best practices regarding:
the sizing of non virtual and virtual volumes/partitions/drives,
the use of sysvol, logs, & data volumes/drives on hosts & guests,
RAID levels for the host and the guest(s),
IDE vs SCSI and drivers both non virtual and virtual and the booting there of,
disk caching settings on both host and guests.
Thanks so much for any information you can share.

A bit of non essential additional info:
We are small to midrange school district who, after close to 20 years on Novell networks, have decided to design and create a new Microsoft network and migrate all of our data and services
over to the new infrastructure .   We are planning on rolling out 2012 r2 servers with as much Hyper-v virtualization as possible.
During the last few weeks we have been able to find most of the information we need to undergo this project, and most of the information was pretty solid with little ambiguity, except for
information regarding virtualizing the DCs, which as been a bit inconsistent.
Yes, we have read all the documents that most of these posts tend point to, but found some, if not most are still are referring to performing this under Srvr 2008 r2, and haven’t really
seen all that much on Srvr2012 r2.
We have read these and others:
Introduction to Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) Virtualization (Level 100),
Virtualized Domain Controller Technical Reference (Level 300),
Virtualized Domain Controller Cloning Test Guidance for Application Vendors,
Support for using Hyper-V Replica for virtualized domain controllers.
Again, thanks for any information, best practices, cookie cutter or otherwise that you can share.

  • Best practices for setting up virtual servers on Windows Server 2012 R2

I am creating a Web server from scratch with Windows Server 2012 R2. I expect to have a host server, and then 3 virtual servers...one that runs all of the web apps as a web server, another as a Database Server, and then on for session state.  I
expect to use Windows Server 2012 R2 for the Web Server and Database Server, but Windows 7 for the session state.
I have an SATA2 Intel SROMBSASMR RAID card with battery back up that I am attaching a small SSD drive that I expect to use for the session state, and an IBM Server RAID M1015 SATA3 card that I am running Intel 520 Series SSD's that I expect to
use for Web server and Database server.
I have some questions. I am considering using the internal USB with a flash drive to boot the Host off of, and then using two small SSD's in a Raid 0 for the Web server (theory being that if something goes wrong, session state is on a different drive), and
then 2 more for the Database server in a RAID 1 configuration.
please feel free to poke holes in this and tell me of a better way to do it.
I am assuming that having the host running on a slow USB drive that is internal has no effect on the virtual servers after it is booted up, and the virtual servers are booted up?

There are two issues about RAID0:
    1) It's not as fast as people think. So with a general purpose file system like NTFS or ReFS (choice for Windows is limited) you're not going to have any great benefits as there are very low chances whole RAID stripe would be updated @ the same time (I/Os
need to touch all SSDs in a set so 256KB+ in a real life). Web server workload is quite far away from sequential reads or writes so RAID0 is not going to shine here. Log-structures file system (or at least some FS with logging capabilities, think about ZFS
and ZIL enabled) *will* benefit from SSDs in RAID0 properly assigned.
    2) RAID0 is dangerous. One lost SSD would render whole RAID set useless. So unless you build a network RAID1-over-RAID0 (mirror RAID sets between multiple hosts with a virtual SAN like or synchronous replication solutions) - you'll be sitting on a time bomb.
    Not good :)
StarWind VSAN [Virtual SAN] clusters Hyper-V without SAS, Fibre Channel, SMB 3.0 or iSCSI, uses Ethernet to mirror internally mounted SATA disks between hosts.

My G5 Isight randomly turns off. I ran diagnostics on hardware, but it didn't help. Is it software related, and do I have to re-load the original software? If I need to get it fixed, best way to get that done? Tips appreciated.
