Warning - iOS4 upgrade breaks Excel

we have three physicians using 3gs iphones between clinics and surgery. I was th eonly one to upgrade from 3.1.3 to 4.x. Major mistake. Excel files with embedded links do not open anymore on the iphone with iOS4. The other two 3gs iphones open the files normally and natively.
Went to the Apple Store for a downgrade in the OS. They cannot do it. I was willing to have the phone wiped clean. Still no luck.
Did the search for other methods and if you note carefully, itunes checks with Apple servers to be sure the phone is what it is and will stop the activation if you download the 3.1.3 on your own. Which I did anyway and found out its true.
Doesn't anyone feel it is interesting that there is no method to reverse the update to help return functionality one enjoyed for almost a year? And no, this was not in the upgrade disclaimer, Apple did not even know this was a "bug" after speaking with tech support on 1-800-apple.

I posted this in another couple of threads, but I figured I would post it here in case someone was monitoring it for replies:
If you have an iPhone 3G/3GS and have had problems with it working with your Ford/Microsoft Sync system, hopefully this will help. I seem to have regained 90% of my iPhone/Sync functionality back, though I think the remaining 10% might be due to a bad music file on the iPhone.
Here is a fix that I found while messing around with my Sync System last night:
First, prepare a USB flash drive to use to update your Sync System.
Download the current version of the Sync firmware from your syncmyride account.
(You must do this even if you already have the latest version)
Next, pull the fuse for your sync system. For my Focus, this was under the dash and labeled #13. Keep in mind that yours is possibly different, so look at the fuse box cover and/or your owner's manual to make sure.
Leave the fuse out for approximately 15 minutes.
Once the Sync system has sat for 15 minutes, replace the fuse.
Plug the USB stick into your Sync system and allow the firmware to update.
If you are told the current firmware exists, you may be OK, but I chose to re-flash the unit to make sure.
Make sure the firmware fully installes (the v2.1 release I installed took about 10 minutes to complete, you have to wait for 2 confirmations before it is done)
Next, wipe your phone from Sync if it was previously paired to it. I did a standard delete of all bluetooth devices (two iPhones paired).
Once this was complete, I was able to reconnect my iPhone with iOS 4 via bluetooth, and I can now connect it to the USB port and control it.

  • IPod Touch 3rd Gen: Battery Draining very rapidly after iOS4 upgrade.

    Hello All,
    Sorry for the long post:
I was wondering if others are experiencing this issue as well? I have a 3rd gen ipod touch 64gb.
Prior to the iOS4 upgrade my battery life was very decent. I would easily go a couple(2) days before requiring a full charge on the device even with modest internet, game and music use. As a rule I keep my back light as low as I can stand to conserve battery unless I'm in direct sunlight and have no choice but to bump it up in order to see.
After the iOS4 upgrade my battery life has been drasticly reduced. Going even 24 hours without plugging the device in is totally out of the question and in many cases I find myself having to plug the device into my laptop or car pretty much any chance I get in order to have uninterupted use of the device while I'm out and about. Although I've never timed my actual use, my usage habbits have not changed as far as I'm concerned.
I went so far as to exchanging the device at my local bestbuy as I purchased the blacktie protection plan which grants me an exchange of the device for "any" reason; be it manufaturer defect, accidental breakage, or anything really short of losing it. The replacement was a brand new non refurb ipod which I synced and charged fully upon bringing it home. To my suprise, the battery life is just as bad as the ipod I just turned in. I have yet to downgrade to iOS3 but am considering it if only to see if I suddenly see a great improvement of the battery life.
If anyone is having the issue or has some suggestions other then downgrading please comment. If this is an "unknown" bug/issue/flaw in iOS4 I'm sure apple would like to know about it and I'm assuming they monitor these forums for reports of these issues.
    Thanks!

Hard Drive warning when upgrading to Mountain Lion. 2nd try and I was able to upgrade. Software update for IPhoto, had problems restarting. Do I need my hard drive checked

    Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced

  • Best practice for Smartview when upgrading from Excel 2003 to Excel 2007?

Does anyone know the best pratice for Smartview when upgrading from Excel 2003 to Excel 2007?
Current users have Microsoft Excel 2003 with Smartview 9.3.1.2.1.003.
Computers are being upgraded to Microsoft Excel 2007.
What is the best pratice for Smartview in this situation?
    1. Do nothing with Smartview and just install Excel 2007.
    2. Install Excel 2007 and then uninstall and reinstall Smartview
    3. Uninstall Smartview, Install Excel 2007, and then install Smartview
    4. Somthing else??
    Thanks!

We went with option 1 and it worked out fine. Be aware that SV processes noticeably slower in Excel 2007 than 2003. Many users were/are unhappy with the switch. We haven't tested SV v11 yet, so I'm not sure if it has improved performance with Excel 2007 or not (hopefully it does).

  • Excel 2013 Upgrade PowerPivot - Excel ran out of resources while attempting to calculate one or more formulas. As a result...

    Hello community,
I have an Excel Model that that i have been using fine on Excel 2010 64bit. It uses relatively large amounts of data from different sources via
PowerPivot.(Circa 25 different tables, with different sql queries and results totalling around 800K rows at a time)
The main excel sheet then uses cubevalue functions and measures to retrieve this data.
I upgraded to Excel 2013 32Bit yesterday. On opening the powerpivot within the sheet, i am required to update the powerpivot version, which i do. After updating , i refresh the Powerpivot tables, and return to the main sheet.
The cubevalue functions do return all of their required values, but other formulas in the sheet do not work. Excel gives me the error "Excel rand out of resources while attempting to calculate one or more formulas. As a result, these formulas
    cannot be evaluated"
The PC is running a 64bitOS with 16GB ram, windows 7, so i don't think actual memory is the issue.
My second guess was the downgrade from 64bit to 32bit, however a colleague of mine is running a similar PC but with Excel 2010 32bit. The Excel Model works fine on his PC.
I am now lost as to what is wrong. Excel does not even explicitly tell me which formula is causing the issue.
Could it be that the 2013 Excel in general just uses significantly more memory, such that my excel file now cannot run in a 32bit Excel?
Any ideas or help on this would be much appreciated.

There do seem to be things in Excel 2013 that use more memory than Excel 2010 (Excel tables for example).
If you are using PowerPivot then most people recommend 64-bit Excel

  • 1.1.3 iPhone upgrade breaks bluetooth

Since 1.1.3 upgrage iPhone will not pair wuth Car Kit ... which works fine with other phones. Looking at forums this is a widely reported problem.... and is a DANGER to LIFE for iPhone users when driving. How can I raise the issue to Apple so that they fix as matter of urgency?

I have the Garmin 360. Not only did the upgrade break my bluetooth connect ability, the other night my Iphone lite up and locked all by itself. A small cog appeared on the screen and the phone died. The phone came back only after the battery was depleted and recharged. Since then batter life has been reduced. Between paying a premium for the phone and now this......

  • IOS4 upgrade loses SMS data

It seems that the data restored to my iPhone 3G after the iOS4 upgrade was old/incomplete. Though it ran a backup during the upgrade process, I noticed SMS history for the past 12 hours had been lost. I can't confirm other data recovery issues - SMS was the most obvious and all of my email and contacts exist on other servers that were retrieved after upgrade.

I've also lost all SMS data as part of the upgrade - have tried restore from backup in iTunes and no change. Very very unhappy currently and looking for a solution!

  • Upgrading from Excel 97 to Excel 2000

Recently, I upgraded from excel 97 to excel 2000.
Since then, all the Labview vi's I've used to work with excel are no more executable (broken wire) on my computer.
However when I opened these vi's on another computer (also with excel 2000) there are no errors.
How can I make these vi's work on my computer?
Are there something missing during excel 2000 installation? How can I check that?
I'm using Labview 5.1 under Windows NT
    Thanks

If you are referring to the "Write table to XL.vi" try doing the following:
    1) Go into the block diagram and open up the vi "Open Excel and make visible.vi"
    2) Right mouse click on Automation refnum (The label is titled exel._application)
    3) Check to see that under the area "Select ActiveX class" that excel is
    selected.
If not you will have to browse through your directories and locate
    excel8.olb for
excel97 (I don't know what it is for excel 2000).
    4) After that, go to the property and invoke nodes and reconnect the wires.

  • IOs4 upgrade, 3gs no longer charges on Altec radio / iPod player

Ever since my iOs4 upgrade, my 3gs no longer charges on my Altec radio / iPod player.
    Any ideas?
    TIA

No suggestions. Sorry. But to share the pain. 4 must be the Vista of Apple. Since upgrading my 3gs gets physically very warm, which never happened before. I can't leave the phone charging connected to my notebook via a USB cable, which I could always do before: the phone actually drains. The multitasking feature is lousy: every app I run stays on, I can't control what is running unless I physically turn off the app, which is a design defect. How do I return the phone to the old OS unless and until Apple gets its act together?

  • IOS4 Upgrade Error -69

Maybe a different take, but the iOS4 upgrade seemed to go quite smoothly...
until it tried to restore all my data.
I now got an -69 error message.
Have no contacts or notes nor have any music sync'd
I've managed to get the phone working, but without any phonebook and when i try and manually add music, iTunes tells me that the source files are unavailable however i can play them from the main lib.

Unplugged my phone and then reconnected.
iTunes now tells me that there was a problem with a previous restore and would i like to try again.
    fingers crossed

  • WARNING!: Upgrading to Quicktime 7.7 breaks "Purchased" tab in iTunes 10.4 Store

iTunes 10.4 comes with Apple Application Support 1.5.2.  As long as you have that version of Apple Application Support, the purchased tab in the iTunes Store will work.
Both Safari 5.1 and Quicktime 7.7 come with a newer version of Apple Application Support, 2.0.1.  If you install either update (or both), then the purchased tab in the iTunes store will be blank.
The Quicktime 7.7 is especially annoying since that's a security update.  So basically you can either have access to purchased items in iTunes 10.4, but run an insecure version of QuickTime or have a secure version of Quicktime, but lose access to purchased items in the iTunes store on your PC.
Come on Apple, can't you at test your software on Windows before updating it?   This plus the annoying sync crash when optimizing videos (photos) shows Apple doesn't test anything.  iTunes 10.4 for Windows really *****.

I have a work around, but it's not for the faint of heart.  It basically involves copying the *.dll files out of the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" folder when version 1.5.2 is installed and then upgrading to version 2.0.1 (Quicktime 7.7 or Safari 5.1).
As such I don't recommend you do this unless you know what you are doing, otherwise you will likely have to completely uninstall and reinstall iTunes (or worse).  If you mess things up, don't come to me for help.  You've been warned.
I tested this on Windows XP, but it should work under Vista and 7.
Whenever you want to access your past purchases do the following:
    1. Make iTunes, QuickTime and Safari are not running.  Basically no Apple programs.
    2. Backup all the *.dll files In the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support" folder and put them in a safe place.  I zipped them up.
    3. Now delete all the *.dll files.  I simply made a "tmp" folder inside the Apple Application Support folder and moved them there.
    4. Take the *.dll files you save from version 1.5.2 and copy them into the folder.
Now you can run iTunes and access the store and download your past purchases.  Leaving things like this is bad for a number of reasons, so when you are done simply quit iTunes and then remove the 1.5.2 version dll and put the 2.0.1 dll versions back.
Technically you don't need to replace all the *.dll, only about 10 of them, but it's just easier to replace all of them.  Also note that there is one .dll file that is exclusive to 1.5.2 and 5 that are exclusive to 2.0.1.

When attempting the above upgrade I get the following warning during the Upgrade of the Common db.
"Changing any part of an object name could break scripts and stored procedures".
We have version 9.00.1399.06 of SQL 2005. I think this is SP00.
SAP Support advised me to uninstall and re-install SBO bt I got the same error again.
I am considering upgrading SQL 2005 to SP01 or SP02 to try to resolve this issue.
    Is SP02 supported for SBO?

  • Contacts cause crash and return to home screen after iOS4 upgrade

After upgrading our iPhone 3GS to iOS4, it crashes when clicking on contacts from the Phone app. The Contacts app itself will not open. This is making it extremely difficult to even use the phone to call anyone.
The same issue is also described in the following forum posts:
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12041826&#12041826
    http://discussions.info.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12002288&#12002288

Check Settings > Store and make sure the Apple ID that is shown is the same as the one used to buy the apps in question.
Also, try a Reset (hold down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the red Off slider, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons).
