Warning message following permissions repair

Just repaired permissions on brand-new MacBook Pro after installing some software. I got the following message. Is this related to having disabled the infrared remote (in order to save on battery usage)? Is it anything to be concerned about?
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.

You can safely ignore this--I think everybody has this warning:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US
The article seems to have not been updated for Snow Leopard yet. I have this exact same warning myself along with a couple of other things that cannot be repaired.

Anybody got any ideas/need for concern?
    Thanks

Hmm, those are hidden folders that really shouldn't be messed with. Have you updated your computer recently?
Dave might be right and you have nothing to worry about.
Using the 10.5.7 COMBO update might make these go away. Here's the link for that: http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_7_ComboUpdate

  • 10.6.8 rainbow wheel - strange startup following perm repair

I've been getting the rainbow wheel quite often on Safari and other apps.  As if it stalls for a bit then resumes regualr functioning.  Upon restart I get either a very delayed white screen before seeing the grey apple or I get the grey apple with the grey progress bar below it.
Booted from Snow Leopard OS disk and performed the password utility and reset all user and root ACL's.  Perfomed disk utility's verify disk which came back okay. Performed permissions repair after finding unexpected ACL's and wrong permissions on private/var/root/library and users/shared.
Rebooted and noticed that "network" user was on the list of users and there was a lowecase  "m" right under "OSX"  at the top of the login window.

    more info:
it is the host that is somehow changing to "m"
During one restart, I got the blinking folder with a question mark.  Rebooted again, and was able to get into the system but only after a very long start up period.
What console log should I be looking at to detrimine what is going on here?

  • Can't scan or copy but CAN print following permissions repair on OS 10.4.11

I have a Lexmark X1180 and am trying to run it on my mac using OS 10.4.11. Initially I could not print, but I could scan or copy to the computer (but not print out the scan or copy).
Having researched on the Apple discussion forum I found that this was a typical problem following the OS 10.4.11 update, and I followed the recommendation of repairing permissions on my Mac. I did this, and now I CAN print but I CANNOT scan or copy. When I try to scan or copy by going into the Lexmark all in one centre it says:
    "Unable to communicate with scanner.
Be sure the device is connected to the computer and powered on."
Please can you give me a work around for this? I know that this printer is not technically compatible with OS 10.4.11 but I HAVE managed to get all of the functions of the printer working with this OS but just not both at the same time!
Please can you help? I have spent hours on this.
    Thanks
    Jo

    Hi Jo,
Been hoping an exprt would drop in, but I guess not!
I'd see if you might have Twain driver that is interfering.

Yeah grey, it's the former i'm referring to. I know what permissions are.

  • Warning from Disk permissions Repair

Can you tell me if this below link contains anything I should be worried about?
When I repair diskpermissions this line appears at the bottom finish-line:
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.

Nothing to worry about. See http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448

  • Disc permissions repair

Note: the item below is not a problem, just a curiosity item:
If I do an apparentl disc permissions repair, followed immediately by another disc permissions repair, why do I get items that need repair.  There are entries like the following:
    Permissions repair complete
    Repairing permissions for “Macintosh HD”
    Permissions differ on "System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/jconsole.ja r", should be lrwxr-xr-x , they are lrw-r--r-- .
    Repaired "System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/jconsole.ja r".
User differs on "System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/lib", should be 0, user is 95.
    Repaired "System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/lib".
    What is happening here?

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 and 10.6:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard changed the location of a number of system components.

It sounds like you used the 10.5.1 update using Software Update.
Download the larger 110MB file of 10.5.1 directly from Apple and this will most likely take care of all but one SUID warning.
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1051update.html
The remaining warning is normal and will cause no problems.

  • Permissions Repair Warning Explanation Please

    Hello Everyone,
It's been a while since I last posted on the Apple forums.
I just installed the Mac OSX 10.6.3 v1.1 Combo Update.
After doing so, I launched Disk Utility and ran "Repair Permissions".
At the very end of the permissions repair log, I found the following warning:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Does anyone know what this means, or why it cannot be repaired?
If ARDAgent means Apple Remote Desktop Agent, as I suspect, then I am mystified, because, to my knowledge, I never use Apple Remote Desktop for anything, unless it is possibly used during the Software Update process without my knowledge.
I just want to know who has modified it, and why its permissions can't be repaired.
My computer specs are in my sig below.
    Thanks!

Hello Niel. Thanks for your response. I just did some checking, and it appears that Mac users have been reporting this -- and similar messages by Disk Utility -- since at least three years ago when Leopard was first introduced.
In fact, I found a page here on the Apple site called "Mac OS X: Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore".
It can be accessed at the following URL:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448?viewlocale=en_US
So I suppose that, as you have stated, the message can be ignored.

I've done permissions verifying, and repairs for years now. I'm also aware that many resulting messages can be safely ignored, but after the recent Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_22. update, there are two new messages. I hoping someone can offer some advice as to whether these can be ignored as well. My computer seems to be functioning fine. Thanks in advance for any thoughts.
    The new permissions repair messages;
    2010-10-20 23:34:06 -0700: User differs on "System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/lib", should be 0, user is 95.

Yesterday I installed the latest Java update. Prior to that these were 'errors' showed when I ran Disk Utility:

    Permissions repair complete
Today I have had some really strange things showing up on my iMAC when I went to Finder, for instance there were a couple of things there "Folders Actions Setup which I took a screenshot of which is way too big to post here and also had "mail attachment" which put the screenshot into a blank email!
Anyone have any ideas? I am now quite concerned.
    Thank you.

  • Odd warning on permissions repair??

    Hi -
Just installed SL and did the permissions repair... got a funny message on the imac (not MBP):
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Sounds like there is a vulnerability here... I don't have remote anything installed or activated (as least didn't intend to...even back to my mac)
should I worry about this? do anything?
    thanks
    tom

I see no such report on my system, so I'm guessing you may have done an upgrade from Leo, so this message could be caused by something residual from a Leo system. Such SUID messages are innocuous and can be ignored. Most likely it will recur each time you repair permissions.

  • Odd message about iTiunes during Permissions Repair...

I have recently installed iTunes 5.
Repairing permissions after a kernel panic, I saw the following message:
"Started verify/repair permissions on disk disk0s3 Macintosh HD
    Determining correct file permissions.
: object: ./Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes malformed object (inconsistant sizeofcmds field in mach header)"
(the misspelling of "inconsistent" is Apple's, not mine)
Has anyone seen this? what could it mean?
EDIT: This message appears every time I repair permissions.

    read this...

  • After running permissions repair i get the folling msg.  Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.

after running permission repair i get the following msg. anyone know how to fix this?
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 onwards:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard onwards changed the location of a number of system components.
Poster rccharles has provided this description of what it all means:
    drwxrwxrwx
    d = directory
    r = read
    w = write
    x = executeable program
    drwxrwxrwx
    |  |  |
    |  |   all other users not in first two types
    |  |
    |  group

    owner
    a little more info
Before the user had read & write. A member of the group had read.
After, only the user had read & write.

  • LSO Portal - Course Follow-up Warning Message in Portal

    Hi Gurus
When i try to do the course follow-up in portal , i get a warning message after i complete the attendance & course assessment of the participants and when roadmap status is at completed , i get a warning message on top of the roadmap that "Your Course Follow-Up could not be saved". This happens in the LSO portal from administrators role.
We have setup the right control options at course type level.
    Please help with your inputs.
    Regards
    Reddi.

    Hi Amit
I have checked the master data and found that everything is fine.
When i try to follow up from R/3 , i get a error message in the last step of follow up activity as "Error While data was intserted in the database".
Strangely this happens for the course which got over on 12-Aug-10 , but the same course which was on 13-Aug-10 , we were able to follow up the course from the portal without any errors.
I have checked the relationships , schedules,  correspondence infotype etc , all the data items are maintained identical and all the participants are active in the system.
    Am i missing something here.
    Please help.
