Warning message when repairing permissions
I Just repaired permissions and the usual large list showed up. But this time I got a message that says:
"Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreService...ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
I navigated to that site and could not find a SUID file. Does anyone know what that stands for and could this be a problem?
Thanks for any assistance.
Rich
Thanks Macjack,
I seemed to get that response after updating to 10.6.7 and my confusion is that when I go to Core Service Folder in the Library, I don't even see any SUID File at all? And this is the first time I have ever received a warning that a file has been modified and not repaired. Have you seen a warning like this before?

Warning Message when Repair Permissions
When I "Repair Permissions" I get the following warning: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Does anyone know what this means? That means that a recent version of Apple Remote Desktop is installed. Ignore it and any of these other messages.

Permissions repair completeIt sounds like you used the 10.5.1 update using Software Update.
Download the larger 110MB file of 10.5.1 directly from Apple and this will most likely take care of all but one SUID warning.

The remaining warning is normal and will cause no problems. -
Error message when Repair permissions
"System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAge nt" has been modified and will not be repaired."
This is the message I get when running Repair Permissions. What is it and how do I fix it. I thought the issues was with Office 2004 and removed that but it remains. That error is a result of the Remote Desktop software update.
There are numerous threads in here about this already. -
Message when repairing permissions
When I repair my permissions I get the following message: "ACL found but not expected on "Applications"." What exactly does that mean?
I read this earlier- http://www.red-sweater.com/blog/427/out-of-my-access-control
it may help explain what is going on. -
Weird Message from Repairing Permissions
Had a new iMac for about a month.
For a lark I did a repair permsissions - mainly as a speed test.
I got a message that "CoreServices...as been changed. Unable to repair"
(Yes, "has" was mispelled)
Hovering over the line showed that the file in question was in Apple's Remote Desktop .App
I wouldn't necessarily care, but this screams security issue.
I have installed:
Rosetta
I partitioned with Boot Camp, but I have not used it yet.
The only non-Apple Apps are a driver for a USB sound interface
Adobe PhotoShop Elements
The older version (PPC)of Microsoft Office (2005?)
Quicken and Turbo Tax
Is this a common error? There are numerous but innocuous messages reported by Disk Utility when repairing permissions. See the following: Mac OS X 10.5- Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions messages that you can safely ignore.
These messages will occur each time you repair permissions, and they may be safely ignored. -
ERROR when repairing permissions: Group differs on "private/etc/cup"
Hi,
When I run permissions repair on my Leopard 10.5.4 I get the error message:
ERROR when repairing permissions: Group differs on "private/etc/cup", Should be 0, group is 26
Any idea why... It pops up every time I run permissions repair so I don't think it is really getting repaired.
Thanks.Ignore it. It's been reported as a bug and is under investigation.

Weird message while repairing permissions
Hi,
I was repairing the permissions on my MacBook Pro and during the repair I got the following message:
ACL found but not expected on "private/var/root/Library/Preferences".

2007-10-29 17:36:07 -0400: ACL found but not expected on "private/var/root".
Does anyone have any idea what this means? I have no idea. Thanks

In iphoto how to get the gold you delete a photo warning message when you check the box not ask
in iphoto how to get the gold you delete a photo warning message when you check the box not ask
Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7 or later: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101. -

Thanks for this explanation. I had taken it that it was at all times.
As I said in the first place it will be great if they throttle me to 1Mb at peak times as it will be better half the time than I am getting anyway!!!!!!!!!

Error/warning messages when trying to add a lookup field
I have gotten error and warning messages when I attempt to put a lookup field on a form. Based on a Municipality Code match in the Account table, I want to add to the form the Municipality Name from the Municipality Table.
After taking out a lookup field that was not looking up coreectly, I get this warning message and 3 simailar ones:
The referenced assembly "System.Web.Mvc, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35, processorArchitecture=MSIL" could not be resolved because it has
a dependency on "System.Web.Abstractions, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35" which is not in the currently targeted framework ".NETFramework,Version=v4.0,Profile=Client". Please remove references to assemblies not in the targeted
framework or consider retargeting your project.
I got this response on the message board:
I am afraid that the issue is out of support range of VS General Question forum which mainly discusses
the usage of Visual Studio IDE such as WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System
and Visual Studio Editor.
Because the issue is on ASP.NET Web Application, I suggest that you can consult your issue on ASP.NET forum

FileVault off or on when repairing permissions and updating software?
Does anyone know if FileVault can be left on when repairing permissions and installing apple software updates. I have been turning it off before doing so, but not sure if that's needed. I've been doing that just to be on the safe side.
Using an iMac DVD, with an external firewire HD with OS X 10.3.9 on one of the partitions.
Thanks for any info
iMac DVD + Mac OS 9.1.x G3FileVault only affects your home folder. Permissions repair repairs only permissions on installed OS packages, which are in system folders. Apple software updates make changes to system folders. Since the system folders aren't affected by FileVault, leaving FV on shouldn't affect these operations.

J2SE 6 warning message when using type casting
With Java SE 5 and 6 version, there's always an annoying warning message when I write the following code:
LinkedList<MyBean> cart0 = (LinkedList<MyBean>) session.getAttribute("cart");The warning message is because I use the type casting with the getAttribute method and thus this is not type-safe. So how do I get around the warning message and write standard code that sticks to the J2SE 6 standards? Thank you.Add a @SuppressWarnings annotation to the method. A bit intelligent IDE will provide you a quickfix option for it.
Keep in mind: it's a warning, not an error. The sessionMap is cannot be specifically parameterized and will never be, it should be able to store any object to your taste. Further on this has not much to do with JSF at itself. -

My computer has been crashing a lot. Apple ran hardware tests and everything appears to be running OK. Could this message hold the key to my problems?Probably not, please read this Apple Advice Letter:
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
However it would be very beneficial if you provide more information about the circumstances and specifications of your iMac to determine why it's crashing. Also if you are running Activity Monitor to check and see how much FREEE RAM you have and if there are any processes taking up a lot of % CPU.
