Warning on Event Log of Aironet 1300 Bridge

I've been getting warning messages from the event log of a 1300 series bridge, which is set as an Access Point in the network, states: 'Packet to client (mac address) reached max retries, removing the client';  I'm not sure why the client is removed.  Does 'reached max retries' mean that the client has tried to many times to connect to the AP/Bridge?  What are other possible reasons why?

It means the AP has attempted to send a packet to the client and has not received an ack from it. The AP assumes the client is no longer in range of it and disconnects it.

  • Security on Aironet 1300 bridges

I am a newbie on this fourm. I required your suggestions and recommendations. I have aironet 1300 bridges. I want to connect them in point to multipoint envt.
I want to have one root bridge and rest as non root bridges. But i want to implement authentication of non-root bridges through root bridge. Please suggest what is the latest and strongest authentication and security protocols that i can use. Please i am looking for an early response.

EAP Authentication type provides the highest level of security for your wireless network. By using the Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) to interact with an EAP-compatible RADIUS server, the root access point/bridge helps another access point/bridge and the RADIUS server to perform mutual authentication and derive a dynamic unicast WEP key. The RADIUS server sends the WEP key to the root access point/bridge, which uses it for all unicast data signals that it sends to or receives from the non-root access point/bridge. The root access point/bridge also encrypts its broadcast WEP key (entered in the access point/bridge's WEP key slot 1) with the non-root access point/bridge's unicast key and sends it to the non-root access point/bridge.

  • Need help on Aironet 1300 bridges

    Greeting,
We have just upgraded two Aironet 1300 bridges (from cisco 350) on two buildings about 100 yards apart. They are only running as bridges. One is set up as root bridge and another one is setup as non-root bridge. Root bridge is in the main building direct connect to Cat 4506. For some reason the root bridge has some intermittant problem connect to the network. We are running the IOS 12.3(8). We changed the cable but the problem still occured. Everytime we have to reboot the root bridge in order to get it back. but all the interfaces in the root bridge show " up / up" prior to reload. The "show tech" looks fine on the root bridge. Any suggestion? Shall I change root bridge to workgroup bridge?
    really appreciate for any helps,
    Gene

    Hi Steprodr,
I just need to clearify that the power injector is on the non-root bridge? I think the power are fine on both bridges when the problem occured. We used cisco 350 bridges before the upgrade. So the cable and port are still remain the same. The problem is more going towards from root bridge come back to Cat 4506 because both root and non root bridges can ping each other when the problem occured.
    thanks,
    Gene

  • Aironet 1300 Bridge and AP simultaneously

Hello Everybody I`ll like to use the Aironet 1300 in a Bridge and AP operation simultaneously and I`ll use a Omnidirectional Antenna ANT-2506 to cover clientes. The question is if in this design the non root AP/bridge operate like repeaters and what about the Bandwith. does this anntena work for a AP application? What is the coverage with this anntena for clients and others bridges.
My scenario is a Root 1300 with Antenna ANT-2506 for clients and bridges and 5 1300 (non root) with Antenna ANT-2506 for clients and bridges.
    Thanks in advance!

The flexibility of the Cisco Aironet 1300 Series allows it to operate asa wireless bridge, access point, or a workgroup bridge.

  • Aironet 1300 Bridges

I have a question on Point-to-Multipoint Bridging for aironet 1300's.
Here is the setup that I have:
I have three mobile units that I need to connect to eachother.
Each unit has a 1300 series bridge in it, one set as a root, the other 2 as non-root.
The computers that are in each unit are setup in a Workgroup, there are 6 computers in each unit.
Can anyone give me an configuration example or point me to an page for a point-to-multipoint setup for the Bridges? I can find point-to-point but nothing else. Or is that the same setup, just worded differently?
    thanks
    --Jon

    Hi,
Q1 >> two must be non-root and one a root bridge? For the three units to talk  to each other, does there have to be any specific settings or not?
ANS >> NO. We need to make sure the configuration is exactly same on all the 3 devices, only difference is the station role.. that is..
on the ROOT bridge the radio station role should be "Root bridge"
on the Non-ROOT 1 bridge the radio station role should be "Non-Root bridge"
on the Non-ROOT 2 bridge the radio station role should be "Non-Root bridge"
Q2 >> Also, I will not have any internet connections or functionallity, they  will be unit to unit communications only. Will this create a problem in  the root bridge then?
ANS - NO, there will not be any issue in the Root bridge.. the traffic will flow between the bridges without any problem.
lemme know if this answered your question..

  • Throughput on Aironet 1300 bridges

I have a pair of 1300 series Aironet bridges that I use to connect two buildings approximately 3/4 of a mile apart.  The line of sight is completely clear.  In my logs I keep getting these messages repeatedly:
%DOT11-4-TKIP_MIC_FAILURE: TKIP Michael MIC failure was detected on a packet (TSC=0x0) received from 0022.55c2.7b90
Eventually the two bridges stop communicating and I then reload the radio interface on the root bridge to get packets flowing again.  I am looking for an explanation of the above message.  I've done some reading that suggests there could be an attack on the network that would cause this, but based on my location I find this to be very, very unlikely.  I tried changing the encryption method from TKIP to AES CCM.  That got rid of the above error, but my throughput came crashing down to a crawl.  When changing encryption methods is there something else I need to change in order to free up traffic between the two bridges?  Why would the encryption method change the throughput of traffic?
Thanks for any help you can provide.

If you are using the first 12.4 aIOS versions then please perform upgrade, those versions reported ALOT I REALLY MEAN ALOT OF WEIRD ISSUES while bridginng... on the other hannd dued, that log just means that the CKIp is failing either attack and 90% of the times I had this issues onn TAC was interferennce...

  • Trying to install 2 - Aironet 1300 Bridges... major problems

I set up both ends of this bridge (about 1 mile apart) and I get an association, so I think I'm golden... well, I haven't been able to get the web gui ping/link test to work at all across them, so I upgraded to the 12.4 IOS on the main site, then went to the far-end site to upgrade that one and now I can't even bring up the web gui... I can ping it from the CLI of the switch, but not from the laptop I have connected via CAT5 to the switch... any suggestions?
Did upgrading the IOS cause this somehow????

Have you tried to telnet or console to the bridge and verify your configuration? You might need to write erase the config and re-configure the box. Can you post your configs?
Do you have clear line of site? Are you using the internal antenna model, or external antenna model?
Make sure that your config says: ip http server

  • Cisco Aironet 1300 QoS

Hello, I have 2 Cisco Aironet 1300 Bridges which provide data and voice communication between 2 buildings. Up until recently QoS has not been needed, but lately there appears to be congestion due to reports of poor voice quality. Building A houses a V3000 NBX Telephone system, Building B houses approximately 30 remote IP phones. Building A and Building B are approximately 100 yards apart. No VLAN's. Due to myself being an extreme noob to Cisco bridges, I was hoping some of you may have had experience in setting this up and hopefully provide some tips. • Aironet 1300 wireless Bridges connection loss, help!

    Hi,
We have 2 Cisco Aironet 1300 wireless bridges with yaggi antennas.
The connection drops sometimes (every 2 or 3 days) and never comes up again.
When we reboot the non-root bridge the connection works again. We swapped the complete unit but still the same.
    For logs see attached file.
What can be the problem? The antennas are not aligned correctly?
    Thx in advance
    greetings,
    Marc

How long is the path and what were the results of the survey?
    Were the connectors waterproofed?
Please describe the sytem from the bridge to the antenna including cable type, length, path, outdoors, indoors etc.

  • Operations Manager Failed to Access the Windows Event Log and management server is showing warning state

    Hi,
I am monitoring AD server from SCOM 2012 R2. My management server goes into waning state. When i run Health explorer then it come back in the healthy state but after some time it again goes into warning state. After seeing alert i found that a alert is coming
again and again i.e.  Operations Manager Failed to Access the Windows Event Log.The description of alert is mention below
The Windows Event Log Provider is still unable to open the DhcpAdminEvents event log on computer 'nc2vws12ad5.corp.nathcorp.com'.
The Provider has been unable to open the DhcpAdminEvents event log for 64080 seconds.
Most recent error details: The RPC server is unavailable.
Please suggest me how to resolve this so that my management server will again come back in healthy state.
    Thanks
    Abhishek

    Hi Abhishek,
As i mentioned earlier the Alert resolution says the same points.
Can you give details on the below ?
Is there really a log named "Dhcpadminevents" in the MS's Event viewer ?
Did you recently configure any new alert where you mentioned "Dhcpadminevents"
as a event log location ?
If yes then what is the target you selected for the rule / monitor there ?
Can you post the results for analysis ?

  • Building to building Bridge link using Aironet 1300's

We have a requirement to link two adjacent buildings that are about 20-metres apart over a public road. I need some advice on what the best solution will be.
Initial thoughts are a pair of Aironet 1300's configured as Wireless Bridges but the antenna type and where to mount them is confusing me. Will the internal patch antennas be enough for this or will we need external antennas? If so what type - directional or? Do the AP's need to be mounted externally or can we simply mount them internally facing each other through windows? What do we need to be aware of regards signal overlaps and interference etc?
What looked like a simple setup seems to have opened a can of worms....
    Thanks
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
The 20m distance is quite short.
In this case, as recommended by Cisco*, for AP1300 series, you can use the AIR-ANT2410Y-R antenna. This directional antenna can be used/installed indoor or outdoor.
    Approximate Indoor Range at 6 Mbps : 548 ft (167 m)
Approximate Indoor Range at 54 Mbps: 165 ft (50 m)
Look under 'Table 4. Antennas for the Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge with RP-TNC Type Connector'.
Both AP1300 and the antenna can be installed indoor. You need to wall-mount the antenna facing each other from each building.
Since the distance is only 20m, you can play around with the transit power to control the signal distance.
As for overlapping channel & probability of interference, do a simple site survey (can use freeware NetStumbler) and make sure your antenna does not mounted near equipment like microwave, or any equipment that produced high frequency noise.
    Hope this helps.

  • About Aironet 1300 Outdoor Bridge.

    Hi,
I have a question about Aironet 1300 series Outdoor Bridge.
in case of 1300 series, it is supporting with 802.11g protocol. BTW, I wanna use it with 802.11a protocol on Aironet 1310 series. Is it possible ?
If so, how to do I have to it ?
    I wait your good answer.
    Thanks.
    Best Regards.

    1310 only support 11b/g, not support 11a.
    1410 support 11a

  • Secure Wireless Site to Site Bridge - Aironet 1300 or 1252?

    Hi there,
We're planning to connect a building no more than 50m away to our network via wireless (after careful research. The builing will only house 2 people, one requiring just internet and email access for ordering materials, the other will be doing document scanning - currently scanning files of roughly 15Mb every 3-5 minutes to an SQL server in the main building. They will also need to retrieve similarly sized files from said server within the same timescale. The solution would need to offer WPA2 security and a hidden SSID.
I have been pointed in the direction of the Aironet 1100 which now appears to be discontinued, so the Aironet 1300 was suggested instead. Will this 54g device be sufficient for the activities above and if so, I guess I will just need to configure each unit as a bridge (1 per building?)
I have also been looking into N type devices and found the Aironet 1252 but I believe that this is an internal device? I have the facility to locate it by a window/ very close to the outside of the building on both sites but not sure if this would be cost effective. Am I right in thinking the 1252 would require me to purchase additional antenna to go with it? If so, what type would be suitable as there are several listed on the site.
Finally. I'd like the solution we go with to be expandable (if it allows) as another building within the same area is also being looked at and would benefit from having a similar connection to it. Whether the bridging would allow for this, or another 2 units would need to be purchased is something I am unsure of.
I'd really appreciate some feedback from someone with experience of both units or experience in setting up a similar configuration as I am quite new to this side of wireless
I have included a basic Visio diagram of my proposed configuration; I hope it is of some use.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
the 1310 will offer sufficient throughput. But if you add buildings, maybe you will start reaching the limit ...
The problem with the 1250 is that it's not meant to go outdoor as it is, apart from that it's perfect for the job.
The type of antennas strongly depend on the location of the building.
If the 3 buildings are in a line with the main building in the center, you will need an omnidirectional antenna. The point is that your bridges should all hear each other, so their coverage zone should include all other bridges. Then it's possible to have one AP at each site, the main site AP being "root" and the other being "non-root". If too hard, you could also go with 2 APs at the central site and then you can go with directionnal antenna toward each building.
And the 1310 can come either with an internal antenna that is very directionnal or with external antennas connector. The 1250 is always for external antennas.
Note also that the 1250 requires a bit more power than normal PoE allows.
    I hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Nicolas

  • ESE - Event Log Warning: 906 - A significant portion of the database buffer cache has been written out to the system paging file...

    Hello -
    We have 3 x EX2010 SP3 RU5 nodes in a cross-site DAG.
Multi-role servers with 18 GB RAM [increased from 16 GB in an attempt to clear this warning without success].
We run nightly backups on both nodes at the Primary Site.
Node 1 backup covers all mailbox databases [active & passive].
Node 2 backup covers the Public Folders database.
The backups for each database are timed so they do not overlap.
During each backup we get several of these event log warnings:
     Log Name:      Application
     Source:        ESE
     Date:          23/04/2014 00:47:22
     Event ID:      906
     Task Category: Performance
     Level:         Warning
     Keywords:      Classic
     User:          N/A
     Computer:      EX1.xxx.com
     Description:
Information Store (5012) A significant portion of the database buffer cache has been written out to the system paging file.  This may result  in severe performance degradation.
See help link for complete details of possible causes.
Resident cache has fallen by 42523 buffers (or 27%) in the last 903 seconds.
Current Total Percent Resident: 26% (110122 of 421303 buffers)
We've rescheduled the backups and the warning message occurences just move with the backup schedules.
We're not aware of perceived end-user performance degradation, overnight backups in this time zone coincide with the business day for mailbox users in SEA.
I raised a call with the Microsoft Enterprise Support folks, they had a look at BPA output and from their diagnostics tool. We have enough RAM and no major issues detected.
They suggested McAfee AV could be the root of our problems, but we have v8.8 with EX2010 exceptions configured.
Backup software is Asigra V12.2 with latest hotfixes.
We're trying to clear up these warnings as they're throwing SCOM alerts and making a mess of availability reporting.
    Any suggestions please?
    Thanks in advance

Having said all that, a colleague has suggested we just limit the amount of RAM available for the EX2010 DB cache
Then it won't have to start releasing RAM when the backup runs, and won't throw SCOM alerts
    This attribute should do it...
