Warning on Jogging With Video iPod

This topic has been discussed before, and I saw conflicting advice. I was told by several people not to jog with my video ipod, but I did it anyway after researching here that Apple says you CAN jog with it.
I just wanted to warn others not to do it, I run about 25 miles a week and mine broke completely after 4 months. I used an armband when running with it. Luckily it was replaced, and I now have a shuffle to use for running. In spite of what they say, it WILL break if you are a heavy/frequent runner.

if your not allowed to walk with it how are you supposed to take it anywhere? What, do you scoot it around every where on a cart?

  • Old Composite Video cable (Tangerine iBook) not compatible with Video iPod

    I discovered a little surprise.
Despite being exactly identical on both ends of the cable, an old Apple Composite Video cable, originally purchased for a Tangerine iBook, is not compatible with Video iPod.
Anybody confirms such situation, or is it just my Video iPod with a faulty video output?

The cable may look the same but it's wired differently. Please see this for more info :

  • ITunes 7.0.2 synching with video iPod

After upgrading to iTunes 7.0.2, I placed my iPod video into the dock. A message came up stating that not all of my files had been transferred because my iPod software was too old. This meant that all my purchased songs and videos did not copy over. I know I have the latest software edition for my iPod and the Update button is not available to even check for updates.
Now the interesting thing is when I place the iPod into the dock while the my iMac is off and then boot it up, it syncs correctly with my iPod. All purchased material copies over and no error message comes up. It is only when I try to insert the iPod while the iMac is running I have the problem.
    Any ideas from anyone?

Yes, Quicktime is up to date. Everything is up to day, but when placing the iPod in the dock while the iMac is running is when the problem arises.

  • Problem: Can't see photos on TV with video IPod

I'm having a *** of a time getting my photos on the iPod to show up on my TV. I have one of those cables with the white/yellow/red ends made by Griffin for the iPod. I have an amp with the three color plugs, and a VCR which has the same. I get the audio ok, but in no permutation do I get the photos. It's true my TV is 15 years old and has no color input receptacle, but when I connect my camcorder in the usual way I get audio and video. Just not with iPod.
I have a newer TV in another room which has the three color inputs, and when I connect the iPod to that, I get no photos either.
Am I missing some setting within the iPod that I should be using??

They are the two options for TV signal on the iPod. To be honest, I don't know what they mean or how they relate to various television sets. My suggestion is to try both and see if either one works. NTSC is the one that works on both TV sets I've plugged my iPods into, one being a photo iPod, the other being a video iPod.

  • Can I Jog with the iPod Classic

So, i jog on a regular basis. I had the second generation iPod since its release. I recently upgraded to the 160 gb iPod Classic. I know that the iPod Classic is the only iPod with a moving HDD instead of flash memory. I have heard that it would ruin the iPod if i jogged with it, but all of my music and playlists are on it. So my question is, is it harmful the the iPod the jog with it for about two miles, not extended periods of time, just about 20 minutes. Also, does Apple basic insurance cover the HDD breaking?
    Thanks

I take mine downhill skiiing; no problems so far.
(And yes, I've eaten snow while the ipod was running.)
Your milage may vary and all the standard disclaimers.
That said, it is a standard hard drive in there, so I would think it is subject to "normal" shock rules.
What I don't know is if there is something like an accelerometer (a feature in some laptops), which would lock the heads/park the drive if a sudden change was detected.

  • Chance of screen burn-in with video Ipod

This is my first color ipod but I noticed that when it charged all night, the "do not disconnect" and flashing cross stay lit all night - the screen does not seem to go completely dark.
Is there any chance of a burn-in with this or not because of the display type?
    80gb video ipod

Burn-in is a phenomenon of cathode ray tubes (like the one in a standard tv set or an old computer monitor) or plasma tv displays. iPods have liquid crystal displays, which are immune to this problem.
Nothing to worry about here, and thanks for asking.

  • Making QT videos compatible with video iPod

I have a bunch of music videos I want to put on my new 30 gb video iPod but whenever I try none of them are compatible and they all come up with errors? Is there a way to make them automatically compatible with the iPod or are they just stuck in the wrong format?

  • Recording live music with video iPod...

I tried using my video iPod to record a live music show and was very disappointed with the results. I purchased a MicroMemo digital audio recorder and used a set of stealth mics I've used for years with my portable MiniDisc recorder.
The iPod doesn't allow you to set recording levels and I think that was the problem. The recording was WAY oversaturated and virtually unlistenable. I tried using Audacity to edit the file, but I was unable to fix the oversaturated recording.
Can anyone advise me? Thanks in advance!

    Hi Bill,
I've used plugins in apps such as Pro Tools plugins to clean up
recordings of lectures. Other good audio software
that allow you to filter a sound file include Cubase
    , MacFOH ,
    SoX .
Thanks for the suggestion, Ed, but my recording is SO oversaturated that it can't be salvaged by anything. When you look at the recording in any sound editor, the top is severely clipped. You can't do anything to restore what isn't there to begin with, and that's the top of the waveform.
    Here's
a list of other open source audio projects at
    GNU.
    Nice list! Thanks for that!!!
    Good luck!
    Ed
I did get some help from XTremeMac's tech support. Sharon Rivera from that company wrote this:
] The way to get true sound is through the line in setting with an
    ] external powered source.
It turns out the battery box (9V) on my Core Sound stealth mics means my mics are powered by an external source. All I have to do next time is use the "line" setting instead of the "mic" setting on the MicroMemo.
    Thanks for your suggestions!

  • Mini power supply works with Video iPod?

Will the power supply that came with my iPod Mini work with the new 80GB Video iPod, which didn't come with a power supply? The adapters are the same but I don't want to fry the video iPod.
    Thanks,
    Brett

Yes, it will work just fine.

  • MacOpener - does it work with Video iPod?

I'm curious if others have this situation. I had a photo iPod which connected to a Mac. I bought MacOpener V6.05, to use my iPod as an external file storage media. All was well.
I just moved up and to the right, and now only have a video iPod. Things are good until I connect the iPod to my PC. Windows wants to format my iPod drive, and Ephpod wants to build iPod_Control, despite it already existing.
Is anybody else in this situation? The nearest I can gather is that the lack of firewire in the Video iPod is causing me this problem.

I realize your suggestion is a viable alternative, but as you can tell by my tagline, I've put my money where my mouth is, and the only computer I use that runs Windows is my work laptop. I travel, so the laptop happens to be the most often used computer. I don't want to reformat my iPod to accomodate Mr. Gates and his empire of eviiiil. I know I have to either work around this issue or forgo usability, and that's what I plan to do.

  • What happens with video ipod battery dies?

I read that the battery in the video ipod is stuck to some parts inside the video ipod so when it dies there is no way to replace it. Does Apple offer any exchange program or battery replacement for video ipod batteries and how much are they?

Don't know where you read that, but the battery is replaceable in the iPod 5th gen (video) just like any other model.
This can be done by Apple or 3rd party battery replacement sites.
If an iPod is under warranty, then the battery replacement is free (except after the first 6 months of the warranty has expired there is a shipping fee).
If an iPod is out of warranty, Apple charges $59 + $6.95 shipping.
As I said earlier, there are 3rd party alternatives that are usually cheaper.
If you have the iPod video model, then it's under warranty, so if you're having battery problems, fill out a service request.

Good lord, Man! That's the long way around the block.
Highlight all the songs in the album. Right-click and select GET INFO.
Click on the album art in your web browser and drag it to the little box for Album Art in the Get Info dialog.
On rare occations I find Drag and Drop doesn't want to work - right click on the image in your web browser and select COPY - the PASTE in to the box in the GET INFO dialog.

  • Has Anyone Experienced This Situation WIth Video Ipod (40gig)

This might seem trivial but i have noticed something happening recently on my ipod. You know how when you are listening to a song and you press the middle button twice the display on the screen will be a picture of the album or CD from which the song came? Well, recently, there is only a square with no picture of the album art. Has anyone had this problem and is there a known fix? Thanks
    Alienware   Windows XP

Mine does that sometimes. I'm not sure why. All I do is reset my iPod, and it seems to fix the problem. All you do is hold the center button and the Menu button at the same time until you see the Apple logo appear. Resetting your iPod will not erase what is on there. Give that a try and see if it fixes the issue.
