This is obviously yet another of those too frequent scams.
I declined the request and reported it as scam, but I'm not sure that this action is of any use at all, since there is no feedback on the action taken. So I wish to bring it to the attemtion of all here at the Skype Community.
I managed to do a bit of background profile research on the sender, and that came up with a person calling themselves "wilsonsmith01" of berling (??sic), Germany. However, with all the grammatical and spelling errors in the above text, I am of the firm opinion that this could be a "wilsonsmith, 445" of banjul, The Gambia.
PEOPLE BEWARE!!!

Yes. Scam. Easy to spot since there is no such thing as Adobe Acrobat Reader.

  • WARNING SCAM Phone Calls purporting to be from BT ...

At 08:55 today I received a phone call from 0800 169 1608. An Automated message was left purporting to be from BT and prompting me to press numbers on my keypad I.e. if I was the Account holder press 1 etc. As I was concerned it could be something important, I tried to recall the number but connected to another automated message again purporting to be from BT and that if required, they would ring back. After Googling the phone number I became suspicious and contacted BT directly to see if they had any knowledge about calling me. They informed me that it was not BT, it was a SCAM call and to email them at [email protected] with the details. According some entries on Google this scammier is trying to obtain Account details and God knows whatever else ! This afternoon I received a call back from the Real BT reassuring me that it was definately not them calling earlier and that they would be carrying out an investigation and would recontact me again in a few days time.

So before you or anyone you know falls victim to the scheme, bear these tips in mind:
•Be suspicious of unexpected phone calls asking for personal or financial information, regardless of who they claim to represent.
•Be warned that banks will never ask you for your PIN or online information over the phone.
•Know that your bank will never ask you to withdraw money to hand over or transfer to another account.
•Your bank will never send anyone to your home to collect cash, a payment card or a cheque book.
•If you’re worried that the call may be real, hang up and call your bank through a different phone line.
•If you think the call is a scam, take note of the caller’s phone number and report it to Callercenter.com. Spread the word and warn others.

  • Warning: Scam phone call

This morning I received a phone call from some people claiming to be from BT's Potential Malicious Use department (or something similar). The woman said her name was Venniser. When I said I had trouble understanding her heavy Indian accent she handed me over to a man whose name sounded like Dariel. They claimed that malicious software had been downloaded with my emails and that this was uploading more malicious software on to the BT servers. Because of this, I was going to be disconnected from BT internet. They claimed that my anti-virus and firewall wouldn't protect me from the threats.
I was unwilling to follow any directions given over the phone to resolve the 'issue'. I asked the woman for my BT billing reference as a way of confirming that the call was genuine. The number she gave me was wrong - it didn't even start with the right letters. If I'd know at the time that BT employees have an ID number, I'd have asked for that instead of their names. When I told Dariel that BT would have sent some kind of notification of their intention to disconnect, he told me it was probably in my Spam folder. It isn't. I haven't received anything from BT, email or post, since my last bill. When I said I didn't believe the call was genuine, he told me he was going to disconnect my internet there and then, and disconnect my phone at the same time. I said goodbye and hung up. That was two hours ago. I'm still here!
The call sounded like it was coming from an office or call centre - there were other voices in the background. Dariel gave himself a convincing job title - Senior Supervisor. When I dialled 1471 to find out who had called, there number was not available. This is a scam.

There are so many scams doing the rounds that you would have to get Microsoft, Banks, Building Societies, Pension Companies, Lottery Companies etc etc etc to put out emails warning of them then you would have to get emails warning you of phishing emails about warning emails from these companies and so it goes on.
The best thing is to remember that NO reputable company will ever phone you unsolicited and ask you to reveal any personal details, log on username or password details or security questions or to access your computer.
They will never ask you for bank account details or tell you that there is a problem with your bank card and they will arrange a courier to pick it up or any of the many other ways to get you to part with your cash.
No ISP will contact you about corrupted files or folders on your computer effecting their servers or that you have a virus.
In short, any one who phones you wanting your details or access to your computer is a scammer.

You must use generators to power the mines and their auxilliary buildings such as storage facilities, which must be maintained. All of this costs money, but the mined resources can be sold or used.  Problems you face include pollution, collisions with other asteroids, worker discontent and alien unrest. Battles against the aliens indigenous to the area must be fought, making building and maintaining a space fleet a priority.

  • Time Warner: Metered/Capped Internet Serivce, paying by the GB.

    {please move if placed in wrong subforum, thanks moderators}
Time Warner is now monitoring and cappng Internet Usage. New pricing and new plans are now in place. This will be a major downfall for TimeWarner. It is utter nonsense especially implementing this during and economic crisis. Who is going to pay 1$ per GB, with a 5GB, 10GB, 20GB, 40GB a month plan? Movies, Games, Applications consume enormous amounts of space. 8 to 15GB. These new metered plans are nothing new, countries like Australia have metered ISP's, if you go over the limit, you pay the price. Horrible, expensive and very unfortunate.
My experience with Verizon services have been EXCELLENT. Never had a single problem. I'm in Florida and even after 5 Hurricanes hit the state, I awlays had internet[FiOS] and backup power.
Verizon, I ask that you please Do Not take the same route as Time Warner. Your services, products, availability and pricing are beyond amazing. Internet has always been Unlimited here in the USA and it should stay that way.
Only one question remains, Will Verizon take the same route as Time Warner? or will you all stay on your current path?
    Good day.

"Web users, the meter is running. In a strategy that's likely to rankle consumers but be copied by competitors, Time Warner Cable (TWC) is pressing ahead with a plan to charge Internet customers based on how much Web data they consume. Starting next month, the company will introduce tiered pricing in several markets.
In the case of Time Warner Cable, customers will be charged from $29.95 to $54.90 a month, based on data consumption and desired connection speed. Customers will be charged $1 for each gigabyte (GB) over their plan's cap. Time Warner Cable offers four cap levels of 5, 10, 20, and 40 GB. A download of a high-definition movie typically eats up about 8 GB. A recent report from Sanford C. Bernstein suggests that a family on the 40 GB plan that streams 7.25 hours of online video a week (a fraction of the 60 hours Americans spend watching TV in a week) could end up spending $200 per month on broadband usage fees. And that's just for video viewing, before factoring in such Internet activities as music downloads and photo sharing. "To put it mildly," says Bernstein analyst Craig Moffett, "the decision to limit data consumption can be expected to have profound implications for [consumer] behavior."

This time in 50 years will be looked at just like we look back in the 50's and laugh at when people scoffed at the idea of computers being used as primary data input tools, paying to mail a letter. It's all relative. Nothing is ever going to go down in price or stay the same. This is only logical.

How to identify possible scams, quoted from http://www.consumerfraudreporting.org/identify.php
If the email, phone call, prize or lottery notification has any of the
following elements, we strongly suggest it is probably a
    fraud and you do not
respond to it. Below are some general tips to recognize
scams.  Detailed information can be found from the
    menu buttons at left:
The name of the company is listed on this
    website somewhere as a scam.
The email matches one of the definitions or
    formats on this website.
The organization has no website and can not be
    located in
    Google.
The email or requestor asks for bank account
information, credit card numbers, driver's license
numbers, passport numbers, your mother's maiden name
    or other personal information.
The email or caller advises that you have
won a prize - but you did not enter any competition
    run by the prize promoters.
The email claims you won a lottery (we know of
NO legal lottery that notifies winners by email)
The mail may be personally addressed to you but
it has been posted using bulk mail - thousands of
others around the world may have received the exact
    same notification.
Especially true if you find an exact or similar
    email posted on this website.
The return address is a yahoo, hotmail,
excite.com or other free email accounts. Legitimate
companies can afford the roughly $100 per year that
it costs to acquire and maintain a domain and
    related company email account.
The literature contains a lot of hype and
exaggerations, but few specific details about costs,
your obligations, how it works, etc.
The prize promoters ask for a fee (for
administration, "processing", taxes, etc.) to be paid in
    advance.
A legitimate lottery simply deducts that from the
    winnings!
The scheme offers bait prizes that, if they are
real, are often substandard, over-priced, or falsely
represented.  Or, as part of the prize you can
purchase "exclusive items" which may also be
    over-priced or substandard.
To get your prize might require travel overseas
at your own cost (and personal risk) to receive it.

    Hi all
I'm really pleased to announce our photo competition winner, congrats to StuartRogerson - one Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 will be on Santa's sleigh with your name on it shortly!
But there's still one Galaxy 2 to be won in part two of the competition - see below for the winning photo from Stuart. We felt this picture best captured the feeling and meaning of Christmas - but what do you think? PM a caption for this photo to StephanieG or SeanD and we'll select the best as the winner, it should be something that captures the spirit of Christmas - it can be funny, seasonal or sentimental. Last day for submitting your captions is 23rd Dec (by 5pm) so get your thinking caps on, we're looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

  • How long does it take to actually install Lion?

I have a first gen 27 inch iMac - the one with the Thunderbolt ports.  I booted an external hard drive off of my main computer (the external is running 10.68 or whatever the latest is) and downloaded the install app from the App store and started the process.  It's been going for the last 10 hours or so.  There is a progress line but it says 8 hours and 43 minutes remaining, 8 hours and 44 minutes remaining, 8 hours and 45 minutes remaining . . . you get the idea.  I've read other posts saying people took only like 45 minutes or they had to run the installation like overnight.  Should I quit and I start over again?  I really don't care if I screw things up since this is only a "test" external hard drive and there's nothing of importance on it.

FiOS is a type of internet connection. FiOS is offered by Verizon in select areas. FiOS offers users 15, 25 or 50 Mbps download speeds for residential home use. Cable Modems, like timer warner cable, offers 7 or 15 Mbps. DSL modem tend to be about 1.5 Mbps.
The better the internet connection usually mean faster downloads of large files & a better internet experience.
What kind of internet connection do you have?

  • :D The Joker Challenge

    <b>UPDATED: Date extended to 10th October!</b>
The last few weeks have been interesting. Twice, during discussions with customers (minor problem handling in OSS) we were told that they are going live with their own developed BSP application, rollout always to more than 10000 users! We only hear about this when an OSS problem ticket is opened. Seldom do we know about the projects being done with BSP. Real life "war" stories are always the best!
This afternoon, while watching the Three Musketeers with my daughter, Mark was penning the <a href="/people/mark.finnern/blog/2004/09/17/the-three-sdn-musketeers version</a> of this epic story. One thing led to another. Doing some back of the envelope calculations with the input <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/index.sdn?page=crp_prize2.htm">cool geeky prizes</a> and my position as <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/sdn/index.sdn?content=http://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/pcd!3aportal_content!2fSDN!2fiViews!2fcom.sap.sdn.folders.pointsrewardsystem!2fcom.sap.sdn.crp.iviews.topcontributors&contenttype=url">Top Contributors</a>, gave the output anything from an iPod up to a <b>HP iPAQ!</b>
Let us use this joker card!
In the next week I will work very hard to answer questions in the BSP forum (and beg for points earned!). In addition, I will try to complete one more weblog (even although Thomas snagged my next topic!). With this, I am gunning to have one prize at the end of the week.
With this prize, I would like to sponsor the joker challenge. I am interested to know what people are doing with BSP. I am asking for people to write weblogs about the work they have done with BSP. <b>I will transfer my prize to the best weblog!</b> See rules below.
This means, that you can start today with zero points, write one weblog, and be catapulted right to the top prize (assuming I can hold the position one more week)! An HP iPAQ is winking.
    The game is on!
    regards, brian
<u><b>RULES</b></u> (To ensure a fair challenge!)
    o) I am offering a prize which I do not yet have. I can not guarantee that I will get any prize, or which one. All I can say is that I will in this week work very hard to stay at the top. This will require that everyone in the forum take the time to review answered questions and assign the marks. However, the final risk is (unfortunately) with you.
    o) <b>The deadline for submissions is the 10th of October</b> [updated!](we accept all weblogs with this date stamp). Yes, this is after the SDN competition close. If you wish to also earn marks with the SDN challenge, then the deadline is still upcoming Friday. Important is just that I earn points until this Friday to get the prize. Then you know what prize is up for grabs and have more time to write!
    o) Speaking of writing, here is expectations (and the mininal requirements):
-- Must be written in English.
-- You must have permission from the company owning the BSP application to write the weblog
-- The title must be of the form "BSP In Action: ...". The "..." can be any sub-title of your choosing.
-- In the introduction section, the company must be explicitly named, including geographical data and a company logo. This is important so that we see that these are real world stories! (If this is not acceptable for your company, email me, and we can negotiate to remove this contraint!)
-- It must be a weblog of a minimum two A4 pages (when printed)
-- Very important: it must contain a minimum of three screenshots. Grey out any confidential information.
-- The text should give an high level overview of the problem (vaguely if confidential),  should discussion some sizing numbers (number of users, number of BSPs, developers,  application servers, etc). The most important section will be decisions taken section. Typical examples: "we used MVC, because..."; "we decided to go stateless as..."; "we did not use HTMLB, but our own HTML to achieve...."; "interesting aspects are the use of IGS, ...". If you were not a developer of the BSP application, we will accept as alternative a section describing in some detail the functionality of the application. Typical examples: "allows us to enter weekly data...", "give good statistic information..."; "have this nice feature ... that  ....", etc.
-- Code samples are not required
-- We do not require a life demo or link.
    o) Judging: Only weblogs with the title "BSP in Action: ..." dated between today and maximum 3rd October will be accepted. If you have difficulty to quickly get your weblog online, email me ([email protected]) a Word document in time to place it online for you. The actual winning decision will be made by three colleagues that are real BSP experts. I will not decide! In addition, any remarks on this thread (and this thread only) about any of these weblogs will also be included into making a final decision. So getting as many other people as possible to give favourable comments on your weblog in this thread is definitely going to help you! Please understand that I do not have the infrastructure to handle an online voting, etc. I trust in the opinion of my three colleagues and the noise here! The decision is final and not negotiable!
    o) What/how will be judged: the size/importance of the project will play no role. The quality of the writing will not be judged. The most important criteria will be the detail of the information presented. The more you tell, with the more detail, the higher your chances are. Screenshots will also be weight heavily! Both positive and negative aspects will be weighted equally. We are interested in the true "war" stories, and can handle the heat in the kitchen. A happy end would be nice
    o) Who can participate? Effectively anyone. What is <b>NOT</b> allowed, is to write about BSP applications developed at SAP. Also <b>NOT</b> acceptable are weblogs
about modifications to such SAP developed BSP apps. Accepted will be weblogs about any BSP applications developed done by or for customers. As author of the weblog, it is not required that you actually participated in the BSP developed. You can be an user of the application, a tester, someone that helped in the design, anyone! We are interested in the scope of the developments. What is also perfectly acceptable, is that (SAP) consultants write about BSP applications developed at/for customers (only with their express permission!). It is also quite acceptable that more than one person write about the same BSP development (just don't spoil the working atmosphere with your colleagues:). It would be nice if those people already on track to win a price not participate, but this is only asked and not explicitly prohibted.
    o) What to do if I just stumbled into this forum and we have never before developed any BSP applications? For this, we will also accept all weblogs that write about development using other SAP technologies. For example applications developed in SAP Enterprise Portal, or using Web Dynpro for Java, or even acceptable is an application developed in SAPGUI. However, this must be an application developed at and for a customer, and not any SAP development! The above rules for judging still apply! Most important is that you still use the title format "BSP In Action: ...".  We leave the "...." open for your imagination and will see how you bend it to fit:)
    o) Finally, please accept that I have exactly this one prize (which I must still earn!) for the challenge. Unfortunately only one person can win. However, in the end everyone will win, as there is nothing more interesting than reading how other people tackled problems and made a success!
<b><i>So start writing today: given that at least three screenshots are required, it should not be difficult to fill at least two pages!</i></b>

Last night the Joker Challenge quietly came to an end. This morning I peeked into SDN and into my mailbox.
At a first glance, it does not seem that all that many weblogs made it into SDN. But looks can be slightly deceiving in this case. Officially three articles were published, over which I am very happy. In addition, I have received two additional descriptions by email, which can unfortunately not be shared. One text was rejected by the "owning" company (all top secret, I was not even told the name!). For one project, the consultant gave me a live demo, and then I could quickly help with some debugging. One or two were promised, but I suspect exchanged for a good holiday stateside (would have been my decision as well!). So, even if it has not been possible to share everything, I have definitely learned a lot about what is been done with BSP out there. Which makes me achieve my goals.
Three "BSP in Action" weblogs have been published. Each one has been excellent to read, and has shown the time and effort that was invested into both the BSP development, and the writing of these weblogs.
Thomas Jung opened the dance with <a href="/people/thomas.jung3/blog/2004/09/20/bsp-in-action-kimball-international">BSP in Action: Kimball International</a>. This was a very impressive piece of writing and especially that "will code ABAP for food" photo made me wonder whether it is time to learn Java. Gracefully, Thomas has declined to participate, as he had <a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/documents/a1-8-4/sdn%20at%20sap%20teched%2004%20san%20diego%20_%20a%20new%20experience.article">already hauled away a 21" LCD flat-screen monitor</a>. The final <a href="/people/mark.finnern/blog/2004/10/06/well-deserved was given by Mark!
Days later, Stefan Riedel-Seifert followed this up with <a href="/people/stefan.riedel-seifert/blog/2004/09/23/bsp-in-action-mmmendresshauser">BSP in Action: MMM@Endress+Hauser</a>. And although we have known about this project for a long time, this was the first time that we have actually "seen" it. We spend hours ogling at the screenshots. A few emails later, and we were richer a number of bits and pieces of coding. We actually learned a thing or two! Hopefully soon, Stefan will write a new weblog, to show us a few more of his tips and tricks (handling of Excel!).
About the last entry, <a href="/people/ulli.hoffmann2/blog/2004/10/11/bsp-in-action-strategic-freight-procurement-with-basf-epilog">BSP in Action: Strategic Freight Procurement with BASF EPILOG</a>, which reached my mailbox last night, I was also very happy. We have known Ulli already a very long, probably since his and our first BSP days. As external consultant he has even worked a while for the BSP-team and certainly knows his stuff! (About that new 640 logon application he did, we must still write a weblog. It has many new features and should soon replace the old SYSTEM application as standard. Unfortunately only in 640.) The EPILOG project has everything in it that a good B2B application should have. Write once, save money every day.
I would not like to write to much about each weblog, more than to say I have thoroughly enjoyed reading them. And I also hope that the rest of the forum did share the pleasure (even although comments have been rare?). Each of these three weblogs have shown beyond doubt that BSP is an enabling technology with which to develop industrial strength applications.
This morning I have requested the three judges to make the final call. At least, with Thomas already happy with his 21" screen, it reduced to only two excellent weblogs in the running. I am glad that I did not have to make the final call. And as was expected, it took hours of deliberation (hopefully they did not had to flip a coin:).
And the winner is: .....Stefan Riedel-Seifert!
A thorough interrogation of the judges showed that it was a close call. In the end, they were swayed by the "work of love" (their words). The E+H development was done using only hand-written HTML (started in 610 days before the HTMLB library), and really shows the BSP power to achieve pixel-perfect rendering!
To everyone that has participated, both in the weblogs published and the private ones received, I wish to say thank you! I have enjoyed these "war" stories to the maximum.
    regards, brian

For each of our custom tracks, you will be required to play the track in Time Trial Mode, and post a screenshot of your best lap time. We will organise challengers into a leaderboard over the course of the week the track is running, so you can keep an eye on your competitors' times. Please note that you can submit a screenshot/time as many times as you like, as we will only take into account your best time.
The elements we will be looking at are in red. Please note that we expect this specific type of screenshot, and other screenshots may be disregarded. Please also note that we will be looking at the "Lap" time, not the "Best Lap", as we want to see who does best within the time awarded.
Taking a Screenshot with your PS4:
After you have passed the finish line and you are satisfied with your lap time, press the options button to display your scoreboard, as in the example below. Then, press the 'Share' button on your Dualshock 4 controller, and upload the screenshot to social media or download it onto a USB stick. After retrieving the screenshot, post it on the forum and we'll add your name to the leaderboard!

Section 7 of the "Specific Rules for “International Project CARS Challenge” Competition" states that "Each Entrant may only submit one (1) entry per Weekly Track and will only be eligible to win one (1) Prize per Weekly Track (as defined below)"
Can you confirm which is correct?
Also, there will be tracks where passing over the white line (deemed the 'track') will not invalidate lap times. As there is no way to verify whether one has abused the track 'limits', can we assume the laps submitted are correct as far as the game sees it?
I have set a very competitve time but do not want to comment without confirmation of my first point above.
You can post as many attempts as you wish. Only 1 of those (You're fastest) will count as the 1 valid entry.
There is no way to tell if a driver has exceeded track limits, without a video. Which isn't required in the stated competition rules. Therefore, what the game deems the track, will count as as a valid time.

  • VI for autonomous vehicle

    Hi,
We are building an autonomous vehicle. Since it is much costlier, we will be implementing it in a prototype vehicle, capable of carrying a laptop on it.It is run by a dc motor and steering is governed by stepper/servo motor. The front panel of the VI is displayed in the laptop as dashboard of the vehicle. Features of the vehicle are line tracing and obstacle detection (using webcam). By pressing the left-right switch in the laptop display(front panel), the vehicle should turn left-right at junctions. Also there are some provisions for monitoring certain internal parameter like fuel level, temperature, seat belt, door lock etc. We are using NI USB DAQ 6009 for data acquisition.
Can anyone help us in building the VI?

Similarly, if you are looking for someone to write the code, you should look at the listings for the Alliance members. Autonomous vehicle control is a Very Non-Trivial project, otherwise the US DARPA agency wouldn't have offered large prizes in their competition to achieve that.
As the previous poster indicated, if you want recommendations on code you have written, this is the place.

  • IMac Airport not following thru on DHCP

Client has an iMac 20" Early 2008 running 10.8.4, connected wirelessly to a full-featured router (MikroTik).
Every so often, the router starts generating error messages in its log:
dhcp, warning: dhcpserver1 offering lease 192.168.10.105 for 00:1F:5B:CB:FD:FE without success.
I believe this is saying that the iMac is requesting an IP address, but then not following through in accepting it.  (There is a four-hour lease time on the DHCP pool, to keep the lease table somewhat more representative of the number of devices actually connected to the router at any given time.)
For example, at 2/12/14 08:45 the router logs one of these lines every 90 seconds until 09:16.
Eventually, the iMac DOES get online.  In fact, the client did not even report the problem -- I found it examing the logs for another problem.
I have dozens of clients with Macs using the same model router in the same setup, but this client is the only one whose router is complaining; furthermore, the iMac is the only device in his house (out of five) that is generating these error messages.  Therefore, I have to assume the problem is some funkiness in the iMac HW or SW.
Anybody have any ideas as to how to get this iMac to stop dropping DHCP on the floor?

That's an interesting feature I've never played with -- and thanks for teaching me something new today -- but it doesn't seem to be relevant to the problem.
If I put something in that field, the router dutifully reports it under Active Client ID.  If I leave that field blank, the router reports the wireless client's MAC address under Active Client ID, at least for every Apple device in our house (there are seven -- only the TiVo shows a blank field).
So in no case is this field ever blank in the router for an Apple product, and on a device by device basis, it is always constant.  Therefore, just changing the value of this field from one constant to another constant is very unlikely to affect the observed behavior.
Furthermore, the issue here is not whether or not the iMac continues to get the same address it once had -- it is why whenever it gets around to asking for an address, it often fails to follow through with accepting it.
I should add that the client household has multiple Apple devices as well, and only this one iMac generates error messages.

  • Found the Answer...(I Think)

OK, so I just made my zillionth phone call and I think this ITunes/Time Warner mess may be resolved today; and soon. I was able to do the tracert phobos.apple.com command and it did time out in San Jose at Level 3 like everyone said it would. I was sent to the National Time Warner Help Desk and they called over senior tech personel. They apparrently got a bunch of calls today about this and have been working on the problem for a few hours now. They said it should be resolved soon. Hopefully sometime today. They will keep testing this to make sure it works. I also have a reference number just in case. They admitted the problem was on their side and it was a RoadRunner issue. I feel really really badly about blaming ITunes. This was not their fault. It was just a coincidence that 7.01 came out roughly the same time all this connectivity stuff did.
Hang in there guys! We will get our tunes back!!! Too bad Time Warner didnt offer to "forget" our bill balances this month....
Thanks for all the help guys! If anything; I did learn how to use the support forum!

The connectivity issue is just over the last few days.
