WARNING - Software Upgrade 7.0.0 Bundle 2406 and texts

I installed Blackberry software upgrade 7.0.0 Bundle 2406 yesterday on my Torch 9860 and when it had completed and installed and uploaded, more than 90% of my text messages had been erased (over 120  SMS messages from friends and family). I am realy annoyed that Blackberry did not warn this would happen before I installed it or I would have backed them up first. Does anyone know how to retrieve SMS texts or have they disappeared forever??

  • Problems with new software upgrade to 6.0 bundle 2534 v6.0.0.570

Hi - I hope someone can help me with this:
I synchronised my Bold 9700 with my desktop yesterday and the desktop manager requested I complete a software upgrade for the device.
When my BB 9700 had fully rebooted from this process, there was a completely different interface and many of my settings had changed. I have not had enough time to fully explore all the changes, but the most annoying is the loss of my "classic ring tone". I have gone into the menu for ring tones, which seems to have slimmed down considerably from the previous version. The new set of ring tones are not to my liking and there is nothing like my old ring tone available. The nearest one rings only once and the volume is insufficient - I have already missed several calls as a result.
I am with O2 via Carphone Warehouse, whose customer support were unable to assist yesterday.
Grateful for any advice as to how I can get my ringtone back - and also curious to know why BB think the new ring tones are good enough for this new release. They are sub-standard in my opinion.
    Many thanks

I upgraded to 6.0 bundle 3049 & now my phone restarts when I select "Send" for a group text. Any suggestions on how to correct this, please? Thanks!!

  • Upgraded from Iphone 4 to 5s and text iMessage not working

    Hello,
I've just upgraded my phone from a 4 to a 5S.  In the store the clerk called my
phone to make sure it was working.  Before I got home my wife had sent me several
texts that went to my old phone.  After getting home I went through iTunes and restored
my new phone with the contacts/apps etc from my old phone.  I've tried logging out
of all iTunes, FaceTime, iMessage etc on old phone but still can't get new phones iMessage
to work. Also reset old phone and removed SIM card. Any suggestions to fix this?
    Thanks for your help.

    Chris,
Thanks for the speedy response.  To answer you questions:
    No- iMessage has never worked.
It recognizes my new phone number when I look in the cellular
settings.  In the messages settings I can't find my phone #, just turn
iMessage on/off, sign in with Apple ID which I've tried, SMS and a couple
other items that's it.  No send and receive options.
    iMessage is not activated.
My wife sent the texts to my phone number not my Apple ID.
I'm not getting anymore messages on the old device.
I got one text on the new phone from a buddy with an iPhone but
it was just a SMS text.
    I hope this info helps.
My phone works though, I just checked, just iMessage/FaceTime
and texts aren't working.  My wife sent me a text that neither phone
    has received.
    Thanks

  • We have two email accounts and my wife cannot access hers. Is it due to new software upgrade? Have tried rebooting iPad and switching of and on the wifi!

We have two email accounts with virginmedia. After a day of intermittent messages yesterday, today my wife's email cannot connect to server. Had no problems before. Tried rebooting iPad and switching off and on the wifi to no effect.

FYI, this is a user to user technical support forum.
No one from Apple monitors, reads, or responds here.
    Try the following:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network settings
If the Wi-Fi is still not working, basic troubleshooting from the Users Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
The vast majority of users upgrade with absolutely no issues.

  • Problem with software update version 6.0 Bundle 2333 and email.

I'm having a problem updating my blackberry bold 9650 with the new service update that came out a couple weeks ago. I left the US for Germany about 3 weeks ago and a couple days after arriving the software update popped up. For whatever the reason, I am unable to load the new update. Neither the 3G service nor connecting to wifi allows me to complete the update. It keeps telling me it can not connect. Now I'm having a problem with my email all of a sudden, as the email icon has disappeared. Whenever I try to reset up my email (which it tells me I need to do) it says I have to do the software update first. Which puts me in quite the dilemma. Apparently no update = no email, which I can not have. Unfortunately I forgot to bring my computer cord to sync my phone, and I really do not want to have to wait until August when I get back to the States to update my phone and have email again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My assumption is that since you're not on the Verizon network currently and you don't have access to the network, you can't OTA the update.
And since you don't have the USB data cable, you won't be able to connect your phone to your computer to update.  My best suggestion... Get a data cable. There should be someplace nearby you in Germany where you can get an inexpensive data cable.
Then go about backing up your phone with the desktop manager and then update via the DM as well.
No, you can't be on TV.
    Yes, this camera is heavy..
    Go bother the reporter...I'm busy!!

  • Why do you not give any warning before upgrading operativt system? Loosing information and a LOT of extra work for your customers!  Improvement!

Starting one morning the Pad was totaly blank. Charged to 73%, function ok the day before. Have to spend several hours setting it up again.
Extremly rude to your customers doing this without a warning!

    There is no automatic update!
Two possibilities here (since you are running 5.0.1, I assume there is only one ):
    1. You updated by mistake, agreeing to the update message.
    2. You have jailbroken your iPad 2 and it crashed, so you had to set up everything again.
If your iPad says iOS 5.1 now, you certainly agreed to the update.

  • EPDF files failing to read on ADE reading software when they have Sidebar color graphics and text, how do we fix problem?

We have 2 different InDesign files not reading properly in ADE reader. Both files have sidebar color graphics and text in them. The one original file's EPDF was showing blank pages for all the page with the sidebars in it when opened in ADE (they are DRM wrapped). Pages that did not have the sidebar showed up fine. Our ebook distributor is telling us that we have to rasterize the file. We are working in InDesign 6 with Adobe Acrobat X Pro. We made JPEGS of each page and reimported into an InDesign file and exported to PDF and our ADE reader then showed the sidebar pages. The file is pretty large though and I have a full length book that has the same problem. What is the problem with our sidebars and what are better solutions than JPEGS for each page? Thanks.

I will give that a try, thank you.

  • All files and more lost with software upgrade

    hello
my in-laws called me in a panic yesterday. they used the software upgrade to install 10.5.2 and could not find their entourage mail program anymore, it was gone, so were all the files in their document folder. i connected through ichat to their computer (had to set up the accounts again, as the old ones were lost) and yes, it is all gone, though documents they saved in the applications folder are still there.
i called tech support for them and was told that programs that are left open during installation will be deleted. isn't it impossible to continue installation until programs are quit? why would all their files be gone from the document folder? also gone were their ichat ids and safari bookmarks. it felt like an erase and install but all they did was the software install which i assume is a default installation?
no, no back ups for them. they just recently acquired this computer on our recommendation that they would have less trouble with a mac than a pc with vista. but now this.
they will be talking with tech support soon, but i have little faith in them, so i am asking here. what could have happened?
    thanks,
    marianna

However, this is an important lesson for everyone. It is not a question of if data will be lost, but when.
See my FAQ* on backing up as to other possible recovery strategies, and make sure everyone knows never, ever install an update without backing up first. Regardless of the cause, data will eventually get lost, and updates are often the most frequent events where they happen as they change the system much like changing the guts of an automobile.

Hard Drive warning when upgrading to Mountain Lion. 2nd try and I was able to upgrade. Software update for IPhoto, had problems restarting. Do I need my hard drive checked

    Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced

  • Software upgrades changing settings without warning

After a recent software upgrade (supposed to improve functionality with iCloud, is all I remember), Finder no longer lists all open applications, open applications in the dock no longer show indicator lights, and no printer icon shows up in the dock when I print. I have found a way, through System Prefs, to access the printer icon and view the progress of my print queues but it's a lot more clicking than before. I noticed that "Indicator Lights" for open applications is ticked in System Prefs, and yet no lights show.
Can someone tell me how to correct any of this?

Since you can't use iCloud in Snow Leopard, why would you install software to work with iCloud? I suggest you try uninstalling whatever you installed.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind 4.9, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper 2.0.1
    AppDelete 3.2.6
    Automaton 1.50
    Hazel
    AppCleaner 2.1.0
    CleanApp
    iTrash 1.8.2
    Amnesia
    Uninstaller 1.15.1
    Spring Cleaning 11.0.1
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
For more information visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on removing software.

I have a MacBook pro version 10.6.7 with snow leopard. After an scheduled software upgrade I could not open Quicken (It said it could not open the files). Now I can only open it if I have my external drive on. Can you help?
All the information that I had input on Quicken is gone. I have to have the external hard drive that I use to back up to be able to use quicken now. It is as if it was erased from the laptop hardrive

Try repairing permissions. My favorite way is with a utility called AppleJack. Info and download here. It's free. It only works when you boot in Single User Mode. When restarting or booting, hold down the Command key and S keys.
You will get a very different startup screen that looks like the Terminal app has hijacked the screen. Just let the lines of text scroll by. When that happens you will get a text entry prompt. Type in "AppleJack" without the quotation marks.
A DOS looking menu will appear. Choose 1 or d to run Disk Repair. If you get a message that Disk Repair found and corrected errors, run it again. Repeat until you get the "your disk appears to be ok" message. This rarely happens with my experience, though. This does the same thing as as booting from an external drive and running Disk Utility's repair. Only, no external drive is required!
Next, choose 2 or p to repair disk permissions. This will take a little while. AppleJack warns that it will take up to an half hour to run repair permissions. It'n never taken more than about ten minutes for my MacBook Pro.
As permissions are repaired, you will see each repair scroll on the screen. When done, the menu returns, choose q to quit. Then at the prompt, enter "exit" without the quotes. Your MacBook Pro should restart into Mac OS normally after this.
    Hope this helps.

  • Data deleted after software upgrade

Help!  I connected my iphone 3 into itunes and accepted the software upgrade on offer.  I now have lost ALL data incuding precious photos.  Don't care about message threads or settings, but I do care about photos.  I have imported my contacts back in from my SIM card but am at a loss as to how this happened when I just selected the standard prompts to update software.  I am using another PC as my regular PC is not working, so cannot get photos off that from my last syncing.  Thanks

    Well, some info:
Apple assumes that all photos in the Photo Library you also have on your computer and thus it's no problem if the sync/update process deletes them, because you can re-sync them from your computer just like you did in the first place. This is true of all photos, video, music, which Apple calls "media". The iPhone is NOT a backup.
Syncing with a new computer offers a warning that it is going to delete all media from the phone and replace it with media from the new computer, at which point you should have canceled. You are only allowed to sync media from one computer at a time.
Syncing with a new computer should have backed up your phone first, and that would include the photos in the Camera Roll, that you took with the phone; but NOT the photos in the Photo Library, that you synced to the phone. The backup should also include data saved within apps. So you might be able to Restore from Backup to get some stuff back, or use a third-party utility to pull your Camera Roll photos from the backup file on the computer. Assuming iTunes backed up first.
Failing that, I don't think I've heard of any way to undo loss of media due to syncing with a new computer. You might ask google.
