Warning:suid file system

warning:suid system, what going on?

I know this question has been sort of answered but not properly in my opinion.
There should be no permissions to repair once they have been repaired.
There should also be no permissions that can't be fixed especailly by Apple.
Many computers have seen this:
"System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAge nt" has been modified and will not be repaired."
To me this is not normal even though Apple may say it is.
Not all computers have this so why do some other computers show this problem?
I have fixed this on my computers as I can't stand to have things like this show up when they shouldn't.
I replaced the problematic ArdAgent by using a copy from another computer that did not have that warning.
Once, replaced, I got the message in Disk Utility when I repaired the permissions with this new one:
Permissions differ for:
System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgen t
should be "0" instead of 501 (or something like this)
Then it states those permissions were repaired.
Now I no longer get that stupid warning about the ARDAgent.
For those of you that want to get rid of that warning, try using a copy from another computer running the same system.
Worked for me.
I also repaired a few other permissions that always kept coming back even though Disk Utility said they were repaired.
Hogwash.
If it was repaired then the same exact ones wouldn't be coming back everytime you repair permissions.
In my mind, there should be no permissions to repair once they have been repaired.
Otherwise, they were not fixed or repaired in the first place.
I now no longer have any permissions to repair unless I may install something new that might need repair.
Good luck with your mileage.
This is how Disk Utility should look like without any permissions to repair once you have repaired them one time, and one time, only.
Clean bill of health.

It's an innocuous error you can ignore. It was introduced with previous updates for ARD and/or Java before Lion. These are messages, not errors. They will cause no harm, and they will be repeated each time you repair permissions.

That's a routine message and it means nothing. Don't waste your time repairing permissions unless you know you have a problem that can be solved that way, which you probably never will.

The opperating system I am using is 10.7.4, and updating to the latest version currently. Computer is running fine, except that when I did some utility repairs, I got the warning above, and not really sure what do, in regards to repairing it correctly, not just getting the message off of my computer.
Thank you for your help, and please only contribute if you know about this issue please.

That's a status message which can be safely ignored.

So I am new to the forum and would like some helpful (non-snobbery) advice regarding my iMac. I am currently working on an iMac G5 - 1.8 GHz PowerPD G5, equipped with 1.5 GB DDR SDRAM. I've just cleaned up the hard disk and installed Leopard. Here is my dilemma:
The machine has been performing VERY SLUGGISH. Even with 1.5 GB RAM. It has been used in the past to run some CAD software (Lightwave), but I've since uninstalled it. I primarily use this computer for print design and run CS2 on it. For the most part, I work primarily in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign and occasionally work with large (150 - 500 MB) image files for large format applications. I understand this will hog a considerable amount of RAM and it typically does. However, even with smaller image and graphic files (10 - 100 MB), the machine creeps along at snail speed.
I cleaned up an almost exhausted Hard Disk, installed the new OS, and have done all my current software updates. Additionally, I've ran the Disk Utility and Repaired Disk Permissions to find only one real issue. Here is the log from that scan:

So in conclusion, I am at a loss as to why the machine is so **** slow. Anyone have any ideas? I'm not much of an IT dude, so I've pretty much exhausted my knowledge of this issue. Thanks!
    ~Macincrotch

I have no suggestions but like you I would love answers. Phone support gets me nowhere except 75 minute hold times. I am so disappointed with Apple. In one year, on a single machine, I have had 2 logic boards replaced (as part of the lower RAM slot recall), a hard drive replaced, an optical drive replaced, two batteries replaced (as part of another recall) and a power cord replacement... now my computer is running worse than it has ever run before - thanks to the terrible Beta version of leopard that crapple crappled on us.
I too am getting the same error messages while running disc utility (which takes about an hour now - as applecare described to me, it is because the machine is having a hard time indexing the spotlight feature (??)). But I think they are benign messages and not to be worried about. I wonder if errors related to these messages are really why our machines are performing at the level of the Apple IIGS. What troubles me is the tremendously slow performance - applecare had no ideas and said its best to wait until the update is released. it seems they are still in information gathering phase using suckers like me who ponied up 150 dollars to be unknowing apple product testers. It takes about 30 minutes to edit an album in itunes with color wheels spinning incessantly. I did a clean install before upgrading. System preferences crashes, wireless network access spotty to nonfunctional, and the computer has at times spontaneously gone to sleep. I feel foolish for believing the applecare specialist when he told me 3 weeks ago that my broken HFS volumes, invalid leaf structures and a disc management tool that could not be located would be sorted out by installing leopard. maybe they should rename 10.5 from leopard to turtle.
The last year has been tiresome and costly because apple does not create or adequately support their products; I wont be recommending apple products to my students or have my students learn using them in my classrooms ever again.
if only my rant could fix my machine...

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:
Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 onwards:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard onwards changed the location of a number of system components.
Poster rccharles has provided this description of what it all means:
    drwxrwxrwx
    d = directory
    r = read
    w = write
    x = executeable program

  • Error message: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManage

Hi all, hope someone can help. I updated to snow leopard and also installed iWork. My macbook was running a bit slower than usual for download so I ran the repair permissions in first aid and it came up with this:
"Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Has something become corrupted or is this normal?

Normal - pretty much everyone gets those. OK to ignore.

    any one know whats up?

Unless you get strange messages that a file cannot be accessed, you don't have a permission problem.
First step for slow system is check the free space on the hard drive. You should have at least 20GB free, but 50 is better. If the drive sounds like it is constantly reading and writing, you don't have enough free space.
Next, boot into Safe Mode by holding down Shift key. It will do some maintenance, so it will take a little while. Check things out while in Safe Mode. It disables third-party stuff that might cause problems.
Reboot normally and see if it runs ok.

My BRAND NEW MacBook Pro........shows this notice in utilities! What does it mean? Should I return it?
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.

Hold everything! I went to my Apple store to pick up my Macbook Air which had been repaired. I told them about my problem and your solution for my MacBook Pro. They told me that "System/Library......" meant there was a defect!!
I was asked to return the computer and receive a replacement which I did. They said the warning meant that there was a conflict somewhere within the hardware that could not be repaired (they tried).

When I repair my permissions, this never gets repaired.  Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
Also, can anyone tell me why my disk permissions are constantly being changed?

It's a recurring message. It's innocuous and of no concern. It is the result of the ARD installation you did. Just ignore it.

  • After updating to Mavericks, get this during Permissions Repair: Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired"?

Repaired permissions once, got rid of the the previous iTunes errors. Cleared history and repaired again, still get:
Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent” has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Any ideas?

I have just started seeing this message and, almost simultaneously, have started to have problems with various different apps crashing for no real reason. Just a coincidence?
For interest, SketchUp crashed with the message
    "Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000000f7f7fff9"
    and QuarkXpress with the message
    "Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000000"
Am I just punching at shadows or could these be linked?
Hope someone can put my mind at rest.
    Cheers....Scotty
