WARNING: Toshiba Maintenance Utility

Be careful of the Toshiba Maintenance Utility.
Its sole purpose is to delete all the partitions on your hard drive!
You'll find it on the Troubleshoot screen in the Windows Recovery Environment.

Nice video! That's your voice?
I have a shortcut to that recovery environment (the Options menu).

BTW, you can arrange to include desktop apps in Refresh.

  • When open Toshiba Console Utility i have to put a password

I want to be able to boot on CD-ROM and i found that it can be possible with the Toshiba Console utility but i've got a problem... When I click on Toshiba Utility, I've got a popup that ask me for a password, but this password is different from the BIOS ...
What can I do ? help me please :(

    Hi there,
Hm, I cannot help you finding out the password for the Console. Maybe you should uninstall it and reinstall another version.
To change the boot order you should set it in the bios if you are not able to do it under Windows. Sounds logical, or? ;)

  • Windows image after Maintenance Utility

I have run Toshiba Maintainance Utility on my e45t-A4100 hopping that recovery partition will be left intact. But no, the disk is completely wiped out, nothing is left.
So, I was wondering if there is some way to get my Windows 8.1 back, download from Toshiba site somewhere?
    Thanks,

    Satellite E45t-A4100
I have run Toshiba Maintainance Utility...
I once posted a message about that misnamed guy.
If you failed to create recovery media, you can order it from Toshiba by scrolling down to Get Recovery Media here

  • Help toshiba recovery utility

satellite pro a 210 goes through ram disk setup and comes up to toshiba recovery utility and asks for machine model.   i have tried many numbers and only get wrong machine.      any ideas

It' s very easy to do it:
    1. You should make a windows clean installation, install all the drivers and programs you like. It can be antivirus, download manager, video players. But I recommend to install the most necessary programs otherwise more space required.
2 Download and install ,, Acronis true Image,,. then, activate it, Google can help you how to do it.
3 Run Acronis, Click on Backup at left side panel. Then, click on Disk and Partition Backup, the new window appears ,,Backup wizard,,
    where:
a ,,What to back up,, - Mark the Os partition located. In my case, it's C disk partition.
b ,,Archive Location,,- Browse where you want to store hdd backup, should be another partition for example D: partiton
    c ,,Scheduling,, - choose, don't schedule
    d ,,Back up method,, -Full
e ,,what to exclude,, Just ignore
f ,,Backup option,, you can choose a password protection,, and other options
Press ,,Proceed,, and it will start backing up, it takes about 10-15 minutes.
Now, you need to manage acronis secure zone. go to Tools and utilities and choose acronis secure zone.
    in
    a. ,,Free space selection,, - Mark NTFS C
b ,,Size,,- choose 250-300 mb space
Then, click on Finish and Proceed. it will proceed and then ask you to restart it. After restart it will perform ,,Partioning,, and restarts again.
In Tools and Utilities, choose Acronis startup recovery and press activate. So, on the laptop startup you just need to hit F11 to enter the Acronis recovery utility and follow all the instructions. In 10-15 minutes, you will get the new installed system.

  • Best Apple Maintenance Utility?

    Hello everyone,
I work at several studios in LA where we deal with large amounts of video and audio. Everybody has one simple question- what is currently the most comprehensive system maintenance utility for Apple OS X? With Symantec discontinuing SystemWorks' support of the Mac OS platform and Alsoft's mediocre DiskWarrior, there doesn't seem to be much. What is out there? What do you recommend for comprehensive disk and OS maintenance?

OK, see that's what I'm talking about. Many of the items on those lists are great examples of unnecessary tasks and "troubleshooting, not maintenance" tools that aren't really about maintaining a pro shop full of Macs. There's a lot of useless tweakage on those lists that I wouldn't want to burden a shop IT guy's checklist with.
MacJanitor is redundant on Tiger machines because OS X runs those scripts even if you shut down. Maintenance, Cocktail, Onyx, etc. largely run the same set of hidden-preference changers and occasional troubleshooting tricks. AppleJack is a great utility, but again, it's more for troubleshooting, not maintenance. Running a localizer saves disk space, but on a machine with disks large enough for audio/video, the amount of space is miniscule, and localizers are known to screw up some applications.
Basically, a lot of those utilities are great for a single user doing home and office work, but their value can be questionable in a high-volume production environment where the workstations must be reliable and standardized/not excessively customized.

  • Toshiba fingerprint utility cannot unprotect file

Im haveing toshiba qosmio x500 win 7 64-bit. my toshiba fingerprint utility was running fine and i had some files protected by fingerprint password. i have the old settings backup file and (.tofp file) and the fingerprint key file (key file)
I recently uninstalled the utility and re-installed it, as it use to sometimes act strange. But after this, even if i import settings from the old backup file, i cannot unprotect the files that were previously protected.
i get the message "You haven't backed up your key yet" (click here to see error http://www.mediafire.com/?qc4t28jv9bjmtm5 )
I have tried exporting the settings again to a new file, but i dont know how to unprotect the old files.
    Please help.

i really do not think you need any other fingerprint files to decrypt your files.  If you used your fingerprint (*by swiping*), you most likely will not need anything else except the software itself that was used to encrypt in the first place.  If you used a file (that is, instead of typing in a password or swiping your fingerprint), you will need that exact version of the file again.  If you swiped your finger, the encryption data is embeded within the file.
Make sure you are swiping the correct finger
I hope the encryption software asked you to swipe a few times to ensure that future swipes can be reproduced by you
Try different angles, speed, starting and ending location of your finger when you swipe
If you are logged on as a different user, the OS (Windows) will do its own encryption on top of your own encryption.  That is unencrypted text file of another user will be encrypted by the OS and will not be accessible by another user.
I really do not think any software will be so dangerously ignorant enough to save the user's fingerprint data into another file then use that and only that to decrypt the files, defeating the purpose of having the correct user to swipe.
The software shoud/may have indications of the software company responsible for the program.  Perhaps one of the programmers may be able to divulge what is needed to decrypt a file
    Best of luck.

  • Toshiba Fingerprint Utility

    Hi,
For some reason Toshiba Fingerprint Utility will now not unlock my files, can anybody help?
    I am running windows 7 on a satellite A300.
The fingers that were scanned are the ones stored and I have no problems using the software to log on or for the occasional website passwords. The files just create an error message when i try to unlock them, strangley i was unable to unlock a few but not all.
As far as I know I have not made any updates that would affect the finger print utility.
Please help as these files are vital to my work.
    Thanks in advance

Since we did not have the full Model# to assist further, our shorted check reveals A300 series came with Vista.  If you did an upgrade to Win7 and utilized the Win7 fp utility that is where the problem lies. It turns out that for some reason, in some instances, it is necessary to have two profiles active at the time of the installation of the fingerprint utility on Windows 7. Uninstall the utility, activate a second account (use "Guest" account) and then  a reinstall (util_fingerprint..).  Ran through the fingerprint registration and it saved.  It also asked for a second sampling (different finger) and it also worked. Just remember not to use same fingers as initial setup.
After rebooting and checking that all worked, disable  "Guest" account and then try locking the computer.  The fingerprint scan worked nicely and unlocked the machine.  Another reboot and test of the login using fingerprint and all is well. Go to download page of the support site (http://pcsupport.toshiba.com/windows7)checkn download tab and follow the prompts downloads for your machine.  Worked on a P105-S9339 unit.  OR, you can try scan of fingers not previously used to setup a seconday profile.  Caution-what may have worked for some may not work for you-thus have Recovery Media handy and backup all stuff.  Caution

  • Sat A200-1AE: Toshiba Hardware Utility - "the serial number is invalid"

    Dear Sirs,
I install Vista Business to my A200-1AE (originaly it was Home Primium). I install all drivers exept TOSHIBA Hardware Setup Utility . Then i try to install it is says "the serial number is invalid"
Can some one help how to install it and what can be a problem?

What I did - I walk thru the original drivers that were added on the cd with Home Vista.
I found out that Toshiba Hardware Utility version is 1.48.0.8c, it is not the same as it is on a download drivers presented by toshiba for downloading v.1.48.0.9c.
1.48.0.9c - this is the version wich didnt want to be instaled -"Serial number is incorrect". So i found it in the net and install 1.48.0.8c
Plus it was mentioned that all drivers from the beginning have to be installed in order - given by toshiba, but by number 8 it was mentioned *TI Multiple Digital Media card Reader* - only after Jeffrey msg i found out that it is the same ->Flash Media Driver - the one i was installing right after Flash card Support utility - since i coudnt figure out what they mean by T*I Multiple Digital Media card Reader*.
I tryed it on my girlfriend notebook and it worked.
Right now I will try it on my Notebook - after usefull help by you Jimi regarding incorrect ROM size i will try it and let you knoiw if it worked.
I just dont understand why it is important to install drivers in the strick order + different versions appears.
One more thing, I have a problem with Robson Package - it is all the time against me -no instalation :-( but it is appears with the rest of drivers presented by toshiba for my model.

  • Locked out due to Toshiba Password Utility

Last night I was browsing my laptop before bed and I came across the Toshiba Password Utility. I opened the utility, entered credentials, clicked next. It asked me to enter more credentials, clicked next, finished (as far as I remember). This morning I woke and turned on my laptop. A screen with a back background, keyboard, and text boss with the text "Enter Password" launches before arriving at the Windows login screen. I don't know what happened because when I enter the password I used last night, I get the message "Validation Error!!" I must have "fat fingered" the credentials, which seems odd to me as you have to enter them twice for the program to accept them. I don't know what to do. I have been trying for hours and hours and hours to guess the password. I called Toshiba technical support very early this morning and the guy said he could not help me. I bought the laptop in July of this year. I called the paid technical support and left a message, but have not heard back. I have no idea what to do? Help!!

Is there anyone out there who can help me with this? I've spent hours on the phone with Toshiba technical support and the guys don't know anything but very basic stuff. I've tried calling the Toshiba "paid" technical support and they never return my phone calls. I've taken it to a computer repair shop and they did not know how to fix it. I've taken it to Best Buy to return it, but they said it would take 3-4weeks for it to go back to Toshiba and get me laptop back. I've taken apart the laptop, tried power cycling, hitting the JCMOS, JEPM, and JPW jumpers. I've tried booting from a flash drive, it can't. I can't even enter the BIOS setup. I don't know what to do. I just have a big paperweight! Please someone help if you can!

  • X1 Carbon - battery maintenance utility not available

My X1 came with windows 8 installed, but the thinkpad utilities does not include the battery maintenance utility that I use to manage the battery charge levels.
Is this intentional for win 8, or can I install it and expect it to work fine?

  • Qosmio X300-H15 - Low quality of Toshiba Fingerprint Utility performance

    Hi
I had an excellent fingerprint tool for OEM Vista HP x64 (notebook model Qosmio X300-H15).
After I installed Windows 7 HP x64, I have only Toshiba Fingerprint Utility which is different. Its performance is poor. Percent of recognized fingerprint during user logon is very low. Also I should use fingerprint to enter Toshiba Fingerprint Utility. And it cannot import fingerprints dump from Vista's tool.
Does anyone know where to get Vista's fingerprint tool? And is it compatible with Win7 if I want to install it?
    Thanks.

Im really wondering you are not satisfied with fingerprint functionality. 6 months ago I have upgraded friends Qosmio X300 from Vista to Win7 using Toshiba upgrade kit and we have installed latest fingerprint utility version 1.0.2.12from Toshiba download page.
It runs perfectly and until now. I asked him often how it works now with Win7 and every time he told me that Win7 runs perfectly so I presume preinstalled fingerprint utility works well too.
To be honest I cannot imagine that fingerprint reorganization on login was better under Vista than under Win7. I have tested it on friends Qosmio after Win7 upgrade and after 10 or more logins using my fingerprint login was successful. I can remember very well that just one time it was not successful but I done it pretty fast just to see if this will work or not but when I have done this properly everything was OK.
Anyway, check Toshiba support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com and go to download section. Here you can find Vista fingerprint software for Vista 32 and 64 bit OS.

  • Is there an HP System Maintenance Utility for Lion 10.7 that works?

I have a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.7.5 and a HP DesignJet 110plus. I have no printing problems but I need to find a Maintenance utility that works. I have downloaded every installer from the HP page of this utility for this printer and other ones that claims are for Lion 10.7 and I have had all types of problems.
From "the printer seems to be disconnected" to installer crashes. Please any help?

Thanks for taking the time... but didn´t resolved the problem. I downloaded both installers (drivers and SMU), check in software update and download the update for the HP drivers.... all of that with the plotter connected via USB...

  • Can anyone recommend a free maintenance utility for panther ?

I have an iBook running OS 10.3.5 Panther. It is not running as well as it used to despite clearing the hard drive of old files. I think it would benefit from some kind of a maintenance script utility that would clean and optimise the system. This is a spare computer that we use mostly for surfing, email and iTunes, my main computer is a newer Macbook. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good 3rd party downloadable utility for Panther, preferably free or shareware, that I could install and run periodically?

    Hi 12frets56!
"Can anyone tell me what "BSD Subsystem installed" means? .... How would I know if my iBook has this?"
BSD Subsystem is a Unix tool, and numerous applications require it to function.
If I find a more technical definition, I'll post it!
Unless you performed a custom install, and chose to not install it, the BSD subsystem is installed by default when you install Mac OS X.
EDIT: Here ya go Berkeley Software Ditrubution!
Navigate to HD > Library > Receipts. If BSD is installed, the file BSD.pkg will be present.
If it is not installed, repost for further instruction.
As Texas Mac Man (Tom) posted, insufficient available space, can cause performance issues, system corruption, and possible loss of data.
Depending on Mac system usage habits, it is a general recommendation, to keep 10% to as much as 20%, of the Total capacity, available at all times.
Review the suggestions, in the documents that I have linked to below.
    Authored by Dr Smoke:

Is the Mac shutdown overnight, or does it run 24/7?
As posted, if you turn the Mac off nightly, the Background Maintenance Tasks, are never run.
The CRON Commands, can be run manually as well, using Terminal.
I also use MacJanitor when necessary.
INSTRUCTIONS TO RUN CRON MANUAL COMMANDS
    Quit all applications/programs.
Navigate to HD > Applications > Utilities.
Double click on Terminal, to open.
    At the prompt, type:
    sudo periodic daily
    Press Return.
Enter your Admin password when prompted, then press Return.
This will execute the daily script that is sheduled to run every night.
When completed, repeat this procedure, but change the command to:
    sudo periodic weekly
This one rebuilds a database or two, and usually takes somewhat longer to complete. It is scheduled to run once a week.
    Repeat again, with command:
    sudo periodic monthly
Or they can all be run in one pass, which is preferable, with this command:
    sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
When the tasks complete, and return to the prompt, you may quit Terminal.
Restart the Mac, and run Repair Permissions.
TO REPAIR PERMISSIONS ON THE STARTUP DISK
1.Open Disk Utility, located in Applications/Utilities, and select the startup disk in the left column.
    2.Click First Aid.
3.Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions. (I never "Verify". Just run "Repair".)
Rerun RP, until the only messages reported, are listed here Spurious Permissions Errors Using: 10.3.x, authored by Michael Conniff.
When "Repair Permissions" is complete. Quit "Disk Utility".
After you have done some Spring Cleaning, you can use the 10.3.9 Combo Update, to upgrade to the final version.
