Warning: Your Nano plays .mp3s, NOT MP3s!

What may be semantics to you and I may be a software glitch on the part of Micr, I mean, Apple. I had been having a problem with a new Nano; it would play some songs just fine, but would restart when trying to play others. So of course I did the 5Rs, which did nothing. I checked all the songs in iTunes, in which they all played fine. But still, the problem persisted. So I decided to do things my way, reformatting in using Windows, restoring the Nano, using Winamp to load my songs in the Nano. Now all along, the majority of these songs were ripped on my PC at 320k CBR, and I also noticed that every single song that caused a restart on the Nano played PERFECTLY on my older Mini. This caused me to look deeper at the individual files, and what I found made me stop and shake my head in wonder...
Music files that end in .mp3 play fine. Files that end in .MP3 (all caps) do NOT play on the Nano. I discovered this after I changed the Windows Explorer settings to show extensions for known file types, as opposed to the default hidden view. And after I changed the affected files and loaded them onto the Nano, they played without any problem.
Quite frankly, I'm surprised and disappointed in Apple for this one. To me, an mp3 is an mp3; its a standard format and it shouldn't matter if the extension is in all acaps or not. Imagine if the song title was in all caps and it didn't play then! If it takes an extra line of code to make sure every file "Plays for sure," then take the time to do it.
Anyway, everyone, check your .mp3 files extensions and make sure they're all in lower caps and not upper; not even the 5Rs will fix this problem.

I tried your solution, and it didn't work for me. All
my trouble songs have the correct .mp3 file
extension. These songs will start playing on my iPod
Nano, and about 7-10 seconds into it, they pause, and
then go straight to the next song. You can fast
forward in the song past the pause point, and the
rest of the song will play fine on the Nano. These
songs play normally on iTunes, and it's totally
random on which songs are affected. It can be one
song that was ripped from a CD, and the rest of the
songs that were ripped will play just fine. Looking
for any other solutions.
OK, solution from Cool_Family--"With my iPod nano, instead of using mp3s, i use iTunes to convert them to ACC, and all of them work perfectly. Try that"-- it worked just fine, just make sure that you link your iTunes playlist to the new AAC song, and not the old song.

You are running into the activation lock.

You have to either enter the Apple/iCloud ID and password in order to activate the iPod for use. Or you can try to dissassociate the iPod for that account by:

If you can't do that you have a nice, thin but expensive brick

Has this always been a problem? Did you properly format the SD card in the device before loading it with any content? When you try, what exactly happens? "not able to play" doesn't really tell us much...is there an error message?

Mp3s not playing in Firefox, but will in Safari

This likely is not a GoLive issue, still I'm stumped, and an afternoon of searching online hasn't solved my problem. I'm hoping some wise people here can steer me in the right direction.
I have a couple of sites (designed with GoLive) that are no longer playing MP3 links in Firefox. You can save/download them, but if you click to hear them, only a few seconds play.
If you click on them in Safari tho, they play fine.

These pages have acted fine for years, now they aren't.
Any thoughts?

They are set up in a image map with basically < href="mp3/song1.mp3" > linking to the files.
I should test to see if the image map itself is mucking things, I guess. However the same aborted play happens if you type the link directly in the browser.
What's weird is that the pages (as is) have worked fine for years. Why they aren't working on the current server, I'm not sure. Other pages I've made with files hosted on a different server are working just fine.
The host company, I think, changed their server and some setting a long the way is not copacetic with Firefox (on Mac - haven't test PC + Firefox).
I was thinking it might be a Firefox 3 issue, but it happens with Firefox 2 as well (and again, previously it worked fine).
It was suggested that I should add a type tag to all links < href="/mp3/song1.mp3" type="audio/x-mp3" / > and double check the MIME types settings. I'll see if that works, too.
Still, I think at this point I would rather move the sites to a different host than hand re-code a bunch of work all over again.

Problem with Creative Zen Nano Plus 1 GB mp3 player please r

I bought zen nano plus? month ago and while i was transfering music into it it crashed ,? it looked like its no more readable so i disconected it from my pc , it needed format , i did format and tried to transfer some music again but the same problem appeared . I thought the memory card of the player is damaged and needs to be changed or repaired? , i gave it to customer support and after a few days they said they installed newer software version to the player , well i thought it will fix the problem . Once i got home i tried to transfer music and it crashed again , i couldnt even format it cause when i plug in the mp3 F: ( usb dri've ) does not respond. I gave the mp3 to customer support again , they filled up the mp3 with music six times and everything worked fine. But at home it still crashes while transfering , so i dont know what to think . On the packet where the mp3 was when i bought is written WORKS WITH WINDOWS VISTA ,?currently i have windows xp ,? can it be that i can only transfer music without prloblems with windows vista ? can it be that zen nano plus is created to use with windows vista ? Did you install the driver on your PC? If not, then do it. Try reformatting the player as FAT. Next try tranferring a few folders full of mp3 files. Use windows explorer to drag and drop the folders? with files to the player. Now see if the player will play them.

Zen Nano Plus will not play all trac

My Nano Plus will not playback all tracks installed.My Firmware has been updated to .0.03I have formated the Nano Plus via Windows Explorer.
Tracks have been transferred via Windows Media Player 0 AND Creative MediaSource Organizer 3.30.2 with the same problem. The NanoPlus Mass
Storage Driver has been updated, too. I have tried it on both a desktop AND a notebook PC. The transferred tracks are combinations of WMA and MP3. Both played and unplayed tracks are a combination of
WMA-protected, WMA-nonprotected, and MP3, 28/59/60/92kbps -
nothing unique about the tracks that will not play.
The tracks have either been ripped from my audio CDs or downloaded via Media Player MSN Music store or MP3 store. I have licensed all tracks and they all play via Windows MediaPlayer and Creative MediaSource Player from my hardri've.
All tracks show up on the Zen Nano Plus in windows explorer and will play from the NanoPlus via Media Player and Creative MediaSource player, but they will not all play through the NanoPlus.
All problem tracks (if transferred via
MediaSource) will either be skipped or the NanoPlus will pause when the NanoPlus is playing or they simply are not
visible (if transferred via MediaPlayer0).
The problem tracks are not always the same tracks after I have re-transferred them (I have tired 4
times to clean/re-transfer tracks). I have 8 tracks and only 36 will play.When transferred via Windows MediaPlayer0, the tracks are organized into multiple folders.When transferred via Creative MediaSource, they are all in the root directory.
What can I do to get this to work properly?

My tracks have been transferred with WMP0 into the following Folder structure:
MUSIC-AUTHOR-ALBUM-Tracks.
In Explorer/MediaSource, there is One MUSIC folder containing 65 AUTHOR folders containing 74 ALBUM folders containg 85 Tracks.
My Zen Nano Plus MENU-MUSIC display shows only 3 Folders -- 3 ALBUM Folders of 36 Tracks -- the tracks that do playback.
Is this just an organizational problem?
If so, it's not very handy to Sync....there is nothing in the manual that explains this!
I'll re-organize and see.

It could be that the CD player will only playback "Redbook" CD's from the previous position.
And starts mp3 type CD's from the beginnig.
However.. it's not Logic related.

Change the rice and dry for another couple of days. Then:
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

Quicktime x play newest opened mp3 first and silence other open mp3s in background

In previous version of quicktime when i had an mp3 playing and opened a new mp3 the mp3 in the one that was playing would move to the background and be silenced until clicked again to bring to the front. The new mp3 did not automatically start playing, until i would click it. In quicktime x when i open a new mp3 while one is playing that one that is playing continues to play until i close it out. How can i make quicktime x play only the instance that is in front and not all the open mp3s?

You can't with the QT X Player app. The "Play sound in the frontmost player only" and "Play sound when application is in the background" are "Preference" options. Since the QT X Player has no preference panel, you cannot access these options with it. You can however, download and install the QT 7 v7.6.6 Player app which is compatible with Mountain Lion. In fact, both players can be installed/used simultaneously on the same system.

Convert AIFF to MP3 not working

I want to convert an aiff file into an mp3 file. Here's what I have done: Changed itunes preferences in advanced to mp3 and imported my aiff file into itunes. The file created in my itunes folder is aifc, not mp3. I also tried to drag my aiff file to my library then use the advanced drop down menu to convert to mp3 but the only conversion option says "convert selection to aiff". I have itunes 7.1.1
4 x 2.5 GHz PowerPC G5 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I have a 1st gen nano that skips with vbr mp3 podcasts. I would love to get a second gen for more space, but if it skips like the first gen, I will pass.
Can anybody confirm whether or not the problem with VBR mp3s on the 2nd gen nano skips or not?

At first I thought there was something wrong with my iPod, but I'm glad to hear this is a common software fault.
I just re-coded my MP3 collection to VBR and find that about 10-20% of my files skipps on my iPod nano (2nd gen). I might up the quality of the VBR and seee if that makes any difference.

Not the case at all, we know many of our loyal radio customers need this functionality on a daily basis.   I do, however, have to admit that we saw this as less prevelant than .mp3 (when looking at our total customer base).

Best thing to do would be to amass a set of test files such that if/when we support this, it can be more thoroughly tested in-house before we put it out the door.   I have a good set from various places, but we always get our best and trickiest test files from customers.
