Warped grid in AI cs3

I'm trying to create a warped grid for a logo background. I made a grid in Photoshop and imported into AI. when I go to use the free transform tool it does not warp the grid at all. I imported the photoshop file to AI as a .psd and I tried importing as a .jpg, same problem. Is there an easier way to do this or is this the only way but I'm doing something wrong?
what I need the fiel to look like is similar to the file in the attached.
any help?

You sure are.
There are several ways.
1 Object>Envelope Distort>Make with Mesh
2 Object>Envelope Distort>Make with Warp
3 Effect>Warp
4. Any number of the distorting effects under the effects menu Effects>Distort and Transform>
I almost for got the warp tool and under it are other distortion tools.

  • Mesh Warp grid disappears

I am new to AE. While moving intersection points of the Mesh Warp grid overlay on a video, the grid suddenly disappears. It happens when I click somewhere in the image area I think, but I can't seem to reproduce the problem to see what kind of click causes it.
    Any ideas?

Highlight the effect name in the layer's effect controls panel, and the grid reappears.

  • Drawing a warped grid in perspective???

Now...... i know how to use the perspective tool and i understand that i can draw a grid onto this but the grid always seems to be out of whack when i do and the line spacing isn't at all perfect.  What i want to be able to do is draw a grid with equal spacing and have the ability to warp this so it looks all bent up going off into the distance.
I can see this is going to be something that i have to draw in manually but i'm kind of hoping that i can have the bulk of the job done for me.
However, if i do have to draw it manually, how would i go about spacing the lines equally along a wafty curved line???

Actually, upon playing about with this, i seem to have got exactly wat i was after    Thanks a lot

  • Repeatable and storable Warp grids

Here's another thing that you should be able to do but can't…
The Warp Function at the moment is not repeatable, Transform Again does not allow you to repeat Warp transformations. There is only one way to 're-warp', and thats to record an Action step which will perform the same transform. Analyzing this Action step, its possible to see that the  co-ordinates "rational points"  and displacements from these, seem to still require a relatively small amount of data. So being able to repeat them in Transform again (Command Sift T) should be within the bounds of possibility. As far as I can see. Within my limited knowledge.
Also in the Options bar, while using Warp, or for that matter any Transform, the possibility to save out loadable grids and co-ordinates would be useful.
While we are on a similar subject  - it should surely be possible to load in saved Liquify Grids as part of Actions also.

The thing I miss about Liquify is useful applicability as a Smart Filter.

  • Data Grid Display Bug CS3

I'm having problem with Data Grid Component leaving a color
outline on the screen when I move out to another frame that does
    not contain the Grid component.
This Only happens if I load a swf containing the Grid into
    another movie.
    Download
    Example
Run Movie1 and select an item from the grid. This will jump
you to frame 5. This works fine.
Run Movie2 and click the button. This will load Movie1 into a
mc. Now select and item, and when jump to frame 5 you'll see the
    green box appear...
Changing the theme halo blue/orange will leave blue/orange
    boxes.
If anyone out there has a fix. PLEASE let me know.
    Thanks,

Hi Mugunda, did you ever find out how to do this?

  • Warping picture in CS3 - stupid thing beeps at me!

I've used the Transform-Warp tool pretty readily before, but mostly with straight surfaces.  Now I'm trying to match a picture onto a curved frame (it's actually imitating individual frames of a segment of film going across my picture)...
So, I put the picture in a layer over the frame (which in reality is transparent except for the lines and start the Transform.  First I match the corners by holding CTRL and dragging the corners to the respective place on the frame.  So far, so good.  However, the right and left sides are still straight, not matching the curve of the frame (see below).
I'm still in the Transform dialog, so I click the Warp button on the Transform toolbar (or right-click and choose Warp).  This, of course, gives me the warp grid.  However, 9 time out of 10 when I click on a point on the grid the computer beeps!!  What is worse, perhaps, is that sometimes it doesn't beep but when I drag the mouse another part of the picture entirely starts to warp!
BTW- clicking Commit to the above transform and then trying to warp that doesn't really work because the transform outline is now a big square that encompasses the picture/layer but its bottom is horizontal.  The Warp grid doesn't give me just the points of the layer I'm warping!
Does anyone have any suggestions on a) what's up with the beep and/or b) the "best" method to warp the picture to fit the frame!
As usual, ANY and ALL help appreciated!

    The motherboard beeps?

If not the motherboard go into window sounds and look for a sound that is listed for program error or crtiical stop and test it to see if the sound matches. This will get you closer to the problem.

  • PS CS5 : Grid erratic display with OpenGL

Hi, I am wondering if I am the only one having trouble with the grid display ?
When OpenGL is active the grid partially disappear if I zoom at 300% and disappear even more when zooming further.
I use PS for web design and really need my pixel grid. With CS3 I was using a 10px dotted grid with 10 subdivisions.
I have an iMac 24" and a brand new 13" and both have the exact same grid behavior.
Every power feature enabled by OpenGL works perfectly and I love it but then I don't have my grid.
I tweaked and tried different options but without much succes. Any ideas how I could fix this while waiting for a patch ?
PS: Why oh why did the PS team include a display pixel grid option if you can't have a snap to pixel option too ?

If I'm reading you correctly, there are multiple graphics interfaces present in this system?
Hm, I wonder how, with multiple GPUs in the system, Adobe chooses the one to use...  I think there's language somewhere that says Adobe just doesn't support multiple GPUs.
Does the situation persist if you boot up while docked?

  • [CS3 - Win] Smart Guides not showing up when Snap To Grid enabled

Has anyone else encountered this bug?
    AI CS3 13.02
Smart Guides are turned on, but hovering over items does not show the cyan hints, snapping to anchor points / paths etc does not work. This only occurs when Snap To Grid is enabled. If you then go and turn it off, the Smart Guides start working again as expected.
    Is this a known bug?
    Tom

Thanks for the reply Mike. Smart Guides work perfectly for me provided Snap to Grid is turned off.
I can see there being a conflict between snapping to grid and smart guides in CS3 - which takes precedence? From a UX perspective, if these two snapping modes are mutually exclusive, there should be at the very least an alert letting you know the other mode is disabled; the menu item should be greyed out. Or if it's truly an either-or situation, then the menu needs to be revised such that both snap to grid and smart guides are within the same submenu, and only one can be selected at a time, toggle with CMD+SHIFT+OPT+U.

  • Photoshop cs3 and setting grid off - to never come on, unless I want it on.. How?

HI .. I am so annoyed with CS3 I cant figure out how to keep the grid off.. for good..
every time i restart photoshop and open images the grid is on!
yes i know how to hide it once it is open, and i know that once it is hidden on the first image all subsequent images i open will have it off.
But then once i restart photoshop it is back on again. So annoying since i usually open photoshop from my finder by shift clicking many psds and find the grid is on alll of them.
How how how? nothing in prefs, nothing in help, nothing on this at all.
I just want the grid off for good, unless of course I ask for it on.
    Please help!
using a mac by the way.

Have you checked your View menu to see which of the View/Show options that you have checked?
Cmd ' (inverted coma) should clear the grid.
If that doesn't solve the problem, try trashing your Prefs..

  • Mesh Warp effect grid doesn't show in AE CS5 for Mac?

I'm trying to apply the Mesh Warp effect to a layer in AE CS5 on my Mac. I'm running AE CS5 v10.0.2.4 on Mac OS X 10.6.7. It looks like the version of the Mesh Warp effect is v2.0. When I apply the effect to the layer, I don't get any grid lines in the Composite view to let me distort the layer. I've tried moving the effect above and below the other effect applied to this same layer. That doesn't seem to matter.
    Any idea what's going on?
    Here's a screen shot:

    Thanks. That did the trick.
The weird thing is, I had tried that before and it didn't work. I walked away, slept, and when I came back and tried your suggestion again it worked.
LOL, I guess that shows sometimes you just have to walk away for a little bit.
At any rate, I appreciate your timely suggestion and response.

  • Fixing warped smaller text due to 'Align to Pixel Grid'

    Hi
    Hoping someone can help.
For my fabric design business I usually create a 16.5x16.5cm artboard add a 16.5x16.5 cm rectangle and then add my text, making a repeatable pattern, before selecting it all and copying it onto a 33x33cm for print. However lately I haven't been able to get my rectangle to stay at 16.5cm, it kept changing to 16.51x16.51cm so I did a bit of research and started unselecting 'Align to Pixel Grid' when I created a new document. However once I selected my whole design before copying it to the larger artboard, it would always be at 16.5001x16.4747 or something like that so I would have to check, uncheck the 'Align to Pixel Grid' box in the Transform panel before I could finally get it to all stay at 16.5x16.5cm otherwise my designs were coming out with gaps between them.
Now all of my smaller writing is printed out warped, which again after researching it seems to have something to do with the the pixel grid. Can someone please tell me how to fix this. And why all of a sudden I'm having these problems! I've been using this method for months and have never had a problem.
    Thanks

    Carla,
I am afraid you will have to start over, more or less.
It may be possible to rescue parts if you have saved earlier versions with undistorted parts of artwork.
And it may be possible to correct simpler (parts of) artwork by moving Anchor Points with the Direct SelectionTool or something, based on the difference between desired and present dimensions.

  • Why doesn't my perspective warp have a grid?

I'm trying to follow along with the tutorial for the perspective warp tool, but when I try to draw a grid using perspective warp, it only draws a box. How do I turn on the grid for this tool?

Strangely, after coming back to it today, the whole tool seems to be functioning fine now, exactly as shown in the tutorial. Thank you for your answer.

  • Help for Illustrator CS3 - change grids?

    Hi,
I am relatively new to Illustrator and I have come across a problem I can't seem to find the answer to. I am trying to change my grid from 5 increments to 8, but I do not know how and if it's possible to so at all?
    Please help, I am stuck

All of AI's math is based on points and inches and depending on DPI settings, there may be rounding errors with otehr unit systems. Perfectly normal. Has been forever that way. you may try to place an empty dummy frame around the entire artwork to enforce a specific artboard/ crop board size. Sometimes helps, but not always...

  • CS3 and CS4 - Is there a tutorial for Warp in Photoshop?

Is there a tutorial for Warp in Photoshop? I am trying to use warp to curve a flat label into a rounded one (with the curve being like the lower half of a circle as if you are looking at the bottom from a slight top view). So far, visually, the top curve is warping in the middle but the edges are staying kind of straight so it gives a funny curve. Thanks.

  • Warp tool in CS3

When I want to warp a text (before rasterizing) nothing happens. I can choose warp though. After rasterizing it works fine. Shouldn't I get a pop up or something like in CS2 that the text must be rasterized first?
This confuses me too..when choosing skew (before rasterizing) it seems to work different than after rasterizing the text, see pic:

Which Tool do you mean exactly?
    Does resetting it help?
    Other than that …
    Boilerplate-text:
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
