Warping in an out of focus background post grade

Hi there
I have finished grading in Color and sent back to Final Cut Pro. There was noise and 'warping' (areas changing) in an out of focus background.
I have applied noise reduction plugins that have seemed to work, but the warping is still very much there.
I have also tried placing another copy of the video above the original in the soft light composite mode and dropping the opacity, yet to no avail.
Has anyone any other suggestions?
Would be incredibly grateful as deadline is fast approaching...
Thank you.

Sorry it was quite random.
The areas are the shadows, and lighter areas of greenery in a park. Because of this background being out of focus, I think Color is picking up a limited range of information.
The 'warping' I previously described is actually these areas getting smaller and larger when there is movement (slow tracking) in the camera.
It is very complicated to describe, I just thought someone might have found this before when grading a slow moving shot with an out of focus background.
Thanks

  • My Firefox menus and tabs and text are all warped and slightly out of focus for lack of a better term. What kind of issue is this. I only have the default theme/persona Strata installed. It's quite annoying.

My tabs and text seem slightly corrupted. There's an apparent curviture to the corners and the tops bow. The text is affected but the font's don't appear to have been edited to different fonts. It looks like some photoshop corruption effect to be honest, but this just happens to firefox everytime I use it now. It comes up normal for a second then 'fades' into this corrupt looking version.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode
In Firefox 4 [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode Safe mode] disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.<br />
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
    * Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
In Firefox 4 you can use one of these to start in <u>[[Safe mode]]</u>:
    * Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
    * Hold down the Shift key while double clicking the Firefox desktop shortcut (Windows)

  • Movie poster Artwork Out-of-Focus and blurry?

Is anyone having a problem with movie poster artwork imported into itunes (added in the get info menu area for artwork) that now appears "blurry" or "out-of focus" in cover flow, etc. and the synced version in appletv. This happened right after upgrading to 8.0.1. My previous movie posters are just fine that were imported "prior" to upgrading to itunes 8? What gives? They are somehow blurry or low-res?

    I downloaded photos into iphoto
From where?  Again, what are typical pixel dimensions of those photos that show blurry, i.e. how small are they?

  • Improving Soft/Slighty Out of Focus Footage in Post

    Hi there,
I am working with some footage of birds in flight and sadly almost all of it has a soft, slightly out of focus look to it.
I don't think this was necessarily caused by inaccurate focusing but perhaps by heat distortion in the air and the subjects being so far away (it was shot with a 300-800mm lens).
I am wondering now if it would be possible to improve the footage and what would be the best method of going about this? I have tried the sharpen tool in PP which actually looks pretty good but am wondering if there is a better way of rectifying the problem in PP or any other software?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
A few things I might try:
Contrast is related to sharpness... try boosting that a bit.
People tend to look for sharpness in the "eye's" first. Try a garbage matte around them and add sharpening.
Try a "Find edges" filter on a duplicate layer and fiddle with the blending modes.
A mix of all of the above.
    GL
The Photoshop "sharpening" filter has a lot of control. You could try exporting an image sequence from FCP (Remember to export to a folder) and creating an "action" in PS to run the filter on all of your images...

  • Keyboad input when out of focus

I wrote a Java application to take a series of screen shots of the desk top when a key is pressed that I then turn into a gif animation later. The problem is that I cannot use the program when it is out of focus or minimized.
I am looking for source that will look to the keyboard (while in the background) periodically and see what if any keys are being pressed. Doesn't necessarily have to be a listener of sorts, but that would be nice.
I am sure a C++ attachment to the Java could be written to handle it, but I am trying to write the program for PC's and Mac's.
Thanks, even a suggestion of where I should be looking to accomplish this would be appreciated.

I would try posting this question in the Native methods forum. I would mention that you already posted this here, just so people don't flame you for cross-posting.

  • Out of focus photos after burning dvd.

I am using Magic iDVD in iDVD 08. Have created a movie with photos imported from iPhoto. All appears to be well when I preview the movie prior to burning it (i.e. photos are clear and sharp, and burning process appears to go as it should). But when I view the burned DVD all the photos are quite out of focus. This occurs whether I watch the DVD on my iMac or TV. Am using Philips DVD-R discs. Have tried different encoding settings with no difference in results.

It looks to me like the flash fired for the shot, but the camera also kept the shutter open for a fairly long time to reach optimum exposure.  Can you check and see how long the exposure was?  It appears that the bright, flashed parts of the photo are sharp, so I don't think it's an optical problem.  The flash froze some of the image, but handheld camera shake created the blurring.  Try a similar shot on a solid tripod.  Or reset the exposure so that it's short enough to handhold and try again.  I'll often do dusk or nighttime shots on aperture priority setting with a flash to light up someone in the foreground.  The shutter stays open long enough to light up the dark, unflashed areas in the background, leading to a long exposure, so I have to use a tripod and have a model that can stay very still.  Otherwise the photos end up looking like your shot.  As far as saving the photo that you posted--it would take a huge amount of effort by someone that's very good with Photoshop.

  • Image files with large pixel dimensions display out of focus in a Bridge viewer?

I Create image files with pixel dimensions 2048x1365. When I display these files from Bridge on my Mac, either by pressing the space bar or in a slideshow, the images are out of focus. If I left click or click/hold and move the images slightly on screen they display in sharp focus. Unfortunately, although landscape-orientation images display correctly with no change in position or size, portrait-orientation files are enlarged and display with top and bottom off the screen. The pixel dimensions of my monitor are 2450x1600 so, yes, if portrait images are displayed at 100% they should display off screen, but this does not excuse the out of focus display of landscape files on this large screen. Nor does this explain why the portrait files are out of focus when they fit on screen. When the same files open in a Camera Raw window they are in focus. When they open in Photoshop at 100% the files are in focus.

  • I'm shooting great white screen but when I key out the white background, I have a very thin white outline around my person that I don't know how to soften without loosing some facial opacity. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I'm shooting white screen and FINALLY have my lighting, white balance, exposure and focus making a great looking, crispy clip! But when I key out the white background in a short segment, I'm left with a very thin, white outline around my person that I don't know how to soften, without loosing facial opacity. I only tried using the 'Edges' tool. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Out of Focus In Focus Question

I see a lot of videos where it gos in and out of focus purposely to give this effect. I see it a lot in wedding videos. Are videographers usually doing this with their cameras or in post production like with Motion? I am a newbie so cut some slack - Nick

  • One day it just stopped focusing and the pictures are blurry.  If I switch it to the front camera it works well and looks like it should but when I turn it back it goes back to being out of focus and I can't figure out how to fix it?

i installed ios 7.after  that my primary cam, one day it just stopped focusing and the pictures are blurry.  If I switch it to the front camera it works well and looks like it should but when I turn it back it goes back to being out of focus and I can't figure out how to fix it?

This advice will sound like a joke or prank, but believe me it worked on my iPhone 5 and my daughter's.  The lens mechanism got stock on each of our iPhones.  We found a post on these message boards that said to hold the iPhone about 6 inches above a table or counter top and drop it so that it lands flat on it's back.  Now try the camera ...Fixed!  It has been more than six months now and neither of our iPhones have ever experienced the problem again.

  • IPhoto Pictures Out of Focus

I'm using IMovie 3.03 on a G4 IBook. When I import photos into the IMovie timeline, the photo is slightly out of focus, it's almost as if a soft focus option is in use somplace. However, the picture looks fine in the preview frame.
Using the shapen option does seem to help, but I don't think I should have to sharpen each picture.
    Thanks!

  • When Straightening Photo, It Becomes Out-Of-Focus

    Hello.
I just discovered when I straighten a photo in editing, the entire photograph becomes out-of-focus. I do not understand this, is this just with my version of iPhoto '09? I have made a duplicate of the photo, straightened it, then quit iPhoto, and opened it back up. The photo remains blurred.
At least I can revert back to the original. Now I am exporting my photos to Adobe Bridge until I get a handle on this dilemma.
Is this widespread, or specifically my own version? It is most unusual. I have used iPhoto for years, and have not had this happen before '09.
    Thank you.

Try this simple fix: trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    *What's the plist file?*
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Fonts appears odd, like "out of focus"

    Hi,
I have installed FF Beta 4.0 10 in my job PC and in my Vaio laptop with high resolution screen. In the PC doesn't look as before and neither as Chrome looks (sorry...). But in the Vaio looks absolute bad, specially menus, they are not well defined, as "out of focus"...
    Here a screenshot:
    http://img502.imageshack.us/i/fferror.jpg/
    Thanks!
    Daniel.-

Afraid not much. There is a sharpen filter, which might help a bit – depending on the footage.
Motion has an Unsharp Mask filter that seems to do a better job – again, depending.
When I have soft images that are important to the story, I explore whether it's possible to use them at reduced scale – on top of a background image – to make the softness less obvious.
    Good luck.

  • Treo 755p camera is out of focus, any suggestions how to fix?

I bought the 755p used, everything works great, but the camera photos are blurry, out of focus.  I have checked the online User Guide and I can't find any adjustment or correction for this.  Palm wants $199.00 minimum charge to look at the phone.  Has anyone had this problem and been able to fix it somehow?  Thanks for any help or suggestions.  Eric, Reno, Nevada.
Post relates to: Treo 755p (Sprint)

Was the phone dropped, or immersed in water?  Either of those could cause the camera to lose focus...

  • Rotated pictures look out of focus

When I rotate a picture in iPhoto '09 it looks out of focus. If I rotate it back to the original aspect it looks in focus again. It looks good if I rotate it 2 times so that it's upside down, but the same aspect. It's also out of focus if I rotate it 3 times (hopefully that makes sense).
I've changed the settings on the camera and tried different photo sizes and such but the same thing happened with each try.
Any idea why this would happen?
