"Warping" Noise on my N2

I've had my MuVo N200 for a few weeks now, and I really like it. I haven't noticed any more pops/clicks after the first day using it, and without updating the firmware.
HOWEVER, I have found that sometimes I will get this really weird warping noise, and not just on one specific song. It's hard to explain what it sounds like, but its strange. It seems to happen when I put in a new battery, and after a short time of using that battery, it will stop. But now I'm using rechargable batteries, and the warping hasn't happened with them after the VERY FIRST time I used them. Regular batteries seem to have this problem.
Should I try to update the firmware? Is this even a firmware problem? I'm worried that I'll mess up an otherwise decent player. Has anyone else had this issue?

sounds odd that it would be regular batteries. There may be a post or two on this, try a search, other wise i would say update the firmware if it isnt the latest (but not beta)

  • Excessive noise from disc burner

I am hearing what sounds like excessive fan noise(?) when burning a DVD. I haven't noticed this until today. I have used the system quite a lot over the two years I've had the 24".
I also hear it when playing a disc on VLC media player, but strangely all is silent when I play the same disc on the Apple DVD Player (these are both software, right?). The mechanical hardware built in the iMac is Matshita DVD-R UJ-85J.
If it is fan wear(?) or whatever, why can't I hear it when using the Apple DVD Player?
Whatever it is, is it likely to cause serious internal problems, and, should I expect a heavy repair bill?
    Thanks in advance..

Some disc make more noise because they are slightly unbalanced, or possible a bit warped. The difference in sound can also vary based on how fast the disc is spinning. Different types of discs and different apps can use different spin rates in the optical drive.
    If it is fan wear(?)
If it only happens when you insert a disc into the optical drive, it is probably not the fans.
With Intel Macs, you can get an external FireWire or USB 2.0 optical drive. OWC has good options.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/
I have an old USB 2.0 optical DVD/CD drive (read-only). It works for DVD movies and even booting up the iMac with a Mac OS X installation disc. I usually use it in read-only situations (such as watching a movie or installing software), instead of the built-in optical drive. I use the built-in optical drive when I need to burn something... reduces wear on the built-in drive.

  • Not scratching,  but a lovely chainsaw noise?

Not Scratching, but a lovely chainsaw noise?
It's not happening on every disc I put in, but maybe 4/5 discs will have a lot of grinding noise when I play them and it's worse when I try to import them.
Even more annoying is when I try to burn a disc and half the time the chainsaw noise starts and the operation has to be cancelled.
What is happening to my pretty macbook???

Chainsaw/Helicopter/Jet Engine is usually a balance issue.
You could be putting in a bunch of media that is warped (heat, improper storage, etc). You might have labels on the media (bad idea). You might have received a bad batch of media that you are trying to burn unsuccesfully.
A 4 out of 5 failure with original video DVD's would be unacceptable to me. I would consider trying to burn with some different media, but if you get this with most of your disks then I'm guessing there's an alignment problem w/ your drive. I would contact Apple if it continues and return or service the machine.

my lid is beginning to slant and this is most evident when closed....
i never throw it around or anything and i have a proper laptop backpack for it. i never place anything on top of it... i have had my mac for a bit over a year now..
    is this under warranty???
also... my computer makes a funny noise (like the one it makes when i first turn it on...) every time i open the lid... or wake it up from sleeping...
also... the bottom is beginning to discolor and actually warp in such a way that the battery sticks out a little... this is not effecting the running of either the CD/DVD player or the usb ports... as far as i know
my screen is also flickering for a third time! i have had both the LCD panel and the logic board replaced
i am very, very annoyed with this and would like some solutions or a new computer... what am i entitled to?

oh, by the way my computer is still under warranty.. until 2010....

  • Has anyone heard of an ipod warping and the screen on the inside shattering?

i left my ipod in the car to charge on my car charger and it wasn't very hot last night but when i tried to listen to it this morning my ipod would only give me a white screen and it was warped into a v and the screen on the inside looked shattered but the outside plastic was fine...has anyone heard of the ipod nano doing this?

Yep I have one bought as a Xmas gift and warped as well and had it in a Griffen Survivor case.  Brought it in and the would not honor their Warranty. If people make enough noise and there are enought reports on this we might get somewhere but til then your stuck with a broken IPod.

  • Warping in an out of focus background post grade

    Hi there
I have finished grading in Color and sent back to Final Cut Pro. There was noise and 'warping' (areas changing) in an out of focus background.
I have applied noise reduction plugins that have seemed to work, but the warping is still very much there.
I have also tried placing another copy of the video above the original in the soft light composite mode and dropping the opacity, yet to no avail.
    Has anyone any other suggestions?
Would be incredibly grateful as deadline is fast approaching...
    Thank you.

    Sorry it was quite random.
The areas are the shadows, and lighter areas of greenery in a park. Because of this background being out of focus, I think Color is picking up a limited range of information.
The 'warping' I previously described is actually these areas getting smaller and larger when there is movement (slow tracking) in the camera.
It is very complicated to describe, I just thought someone might have found this before when grading a slow moving shot with an out of focus background.
    Thanks

  • Hinge Noise on 15" Macbook Pro

Is anyone else having this issue?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tddc5ow4bNg
    (taken with my iPhone 4)
It's been getting progressively worse over the last few months. I took it to the Apple Store in July and they documented it, said it would "eventually" need service. I called in September when it was cracking almost 90% of the time when closing the screen. I got it back and it was fine for about a week or so, and then it started again.
If I adjust the screen in any way or when I'm closing it (almost always when I'm "pulling" the screen down to close it), this noise happens on the right-side. My wife has a white unibody Macbook and it does not make this noise at all. As far as tacticle or feel of it, I get the sense the hinge isn't disengaging when I'm trying to close the screen.
I just sent it in again but am getting progressively more and more disappointed in this machine--it was expensive. I have Apple care (thank god) and it is covering it, but in the past year (going on two) that I've had it, it's had the following repairs done...
    * Logic Board (headphone jack died...)
    * Hard Drive (kernel panics...this is what they replaced)
    * RAM (part of the same repair for kernel panics...this is also what they replaced)
    * Hinge (2x now)
    * Battery Cover (warped)
The only issue they have not been able to "fix" was the pulsing backlight when it's on low brightness, they said that was "normal". However, I'm getting a horizontal black bar flashing on the screen every so often when I'm using it--it's anywhere from 1-3" in width from the top of the screen. I've not seen this on any other Mac in our home.
Sorry, I don't mean to sound like a rant but the hinge thing is really annoying (not to mention the repairs). Anyone else have this issue?

My late-2008 MBP's display hinge has always made a slight creaking sound when it moves. After 22 months of use, there is no indication that this is actually a problem.
The only issue they have not been able to "fix" was the pulsing backlight when it's on low brightness, they said that was "normal".
My screen's backlight pulses or flickers slightly at very low brightness settings. I believe they all do. It's explained in this excellent post from darrylh:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9679713#9679713
I'm getting a horizontal black bar flashing on the screen every so often when I'm using it--it's anywhere from 1-3" in width from the top of the screen.
My MBP has always done this, dozens of times a day. It has no more effect on my work or my enjoyment of the MBP than the fact that I blink my eyes frequently. When my eyes are closed, I can't see *any part* of the screen. But I'm not sending my head in for repair, because blinking doesn't interfere with anything I do. I suggest that you simply ignore your display's blinking, just as you ignore your eyes blinking.

  • Does Stabilization work on old VHS warping?

Hi folks, I have some old VHS tape I'm importing and it while watching the import preview window, I'm seeing some edge warping and some mid-screen line distortion, like the tape is decaying. I'm wondering if image stabilization will help improve any of those problems, and if not, is there another technique to fix it? I also have Final Cut Pro, but i can't seem to get it to capture the vhs through ADVC...
    Thanks
    Jeff

I would imagine that the stabilization would be much more difficult on old analog VHS tapes, especially old ones. There's a lot of analog noise in there that it has to deal with. Stabilization won't improve the picture quality, but on my VHS tapes from 1999 I have noticed that it does a respectable, if sometimes overzealous, job at stabilizing them.
For the clips where stabilization doesn't zoom in enough to hide the warping effect at the bottom of the screen, you can always tweak it to zoom in a little more. Keep in mind though that VHS is very low resolution, and zooming in is only making that resolution less defined.

  • Plase help :( Imac trash noise. It makes noises similar to trashing a file.

    I have a 20" imac w/ 1.8 processor and a gig of ram.
My imac keeps making this noise, similar to trashing a file, but the sound is continuous and DOES NOT stop unless I reboot. And most of the time, when i reboot during that time, it wont recognize the harddrive. Itll restart with a folder with a blinking question mark.
if i dont reboot, sooner or later, the system will crash.
the sound is NOT the fan. Nor is it a sound that suggest that the hardrive is spinning. it LITERRALLY sounds like the trash sound, but continuous and will not stop. Ive never seen anything like this. Please help
    Thank you in advance.

    Welcome Clockwurk;
I suggest you boot from the Additional Software disk that came with your iMac and run Hardware Test. It should tell you if there is anything wrong. When you run the test, your fans will ramp up to warp speed, but that's normal. Before you do that, make sure that you back up the contents of your drive to an external disk.
Please let us know your results,
    Miriam

  • Annoying wake from sleep glitch due to warped lid

Anyone else have this behavior? My MBP came to me with the warped lid wherein the right hand side of the lid does not sit flush with the bottom of the computer when closed. Once the computer is put to sleep (LED winking, fans off etc.), if I pick up the book on the right hand side to slide it into my bag, I hear the audible hard drive wake up noise and the book starts to wake. If I immediately stop and set it on the desk for a few moments, it goes back to sleep.
I can't repeat this behavior if I grab the left hand side of the computer. It seems as though there are some slim tollerances for the latch switch to tell the computer to wake up and the warped lid exacerbates this behavior. I'm considering a call to Apple Care, but for now use deep sleep to ensure this thing isn't riding around awake.

As stupid as it sounds, apple does not support the use of moving the computer while it is in "sleep" mode. There was another thread about this somewhere here a few months back. They only suggest you walk around with the computer off to avoid any hard drive damage. It's really annoying.
I'd try to get that lid fixed if it really looks warped. Or you can get these little translucent bumpers to keep your lid level on both sides (sorry I don't have the website I thought I bookmarked it). Just google search for macbook screen bumpers and you should find!

  • Warp Stabilizer flicker, software renderer does nothing

I started this project on CC 2014, then migrated it up to CC 2014.1. I have tried exporting a couple sequences from it multiple times, with different output codecs (uncompressed, Cineform, H.264), and all of the results are the same: flickering video and noisy audio.
I have isolated the flicker to the Warp Stabilizer-effected shots, but no sequence setting changes or conversion to Software renderer over CUDA renderer makes any difference in the output. The audio also outputs as digital noise (sounds like when you listen to a data CD in an old CD player).
It is not an option to go through and re-add all of the Warp Stabilizer effects to see what different that makes, there are too many of them on the various clips in the project.
This affects both Premiere AND Media Encoder, so it's looking very difficult to get a quality render out of this.
    Please help!

WS worked fine until I updated from CC to 2014
I'm not running any other software besides the rest of the Adobe suite. I sometimes have Chrome open while editing.
I use Red Giant Magic Bullet looks quite a lot. I also use Neat Video noise reduction, Boris Continuum, and Twixtor.

I'm using MPE GPU acceleration. When I use software only I actually get a lot more render errors and the flicker worsens.
Previews look perfect only on final output do I see the problem. I have tried rendering with the "use previews" box checked thinking that would help but it makes no difference.
Hope we can get this solved!

I also get an "unknown exception on frame 0 in Warp Stabilizer" error sometimes when applying WS.

  • Wireless RF measurements Noise and Busy

I have been experiencing wireless association problems. These have developed over the past few weeks. The WLAN has been working well, up to now.
I have used the 350 utility to few the noise and busy in this environment.
I have seen 20-40% busy on various channels. At what % should a channel not be planned for?
I am also seeing noise at -94% but goes to -65% at times. Is a low noise (-90%) or a higher noise (-65%)more desirable?
I have not been able to find any info on how to truly interpret noise and design around it.

Looks like an RF issue. See the document for troubleshooting RF issue:

  • Clicking noise on left side when opening macbook screen

For some reason, all the sudden my macbook started making a clicking noise on the left hidge of the screen everytime I open it. I looked closely and discovered that the space between the bottom portion of the macbook and the screen (when closed) is bigger on the right side then on the left side. The left side is almost flush with the bottom portion but the right side has some extra space, which is needed so the plastic doesnt rub together and create this clicking noise.
What I dont understand is how the heck this happened...I was just sitting there on my mac book, opened and closed it and now the screen has a smaller space on the left side.
Has anyone else had this problem? I think its worth taking it to an apple store to get repaired but I'm starting school very soon and need it. Any ideas?

So I took my macbook to the apple store which unfortunantly is 45 minutes away from my house. I showed an apple genius my problem and he said that he didnt know how my problem occured but he thinks it can be fixed by sending the laptop in and having them re-adjust the bezel. He told me just by looking at it, he couldnt really tell me if it was easy to fix. He also offered to send it in for me and see what they could do but I need it next week for school so I couldnt do that. Apparently the apple store in san fran where I'm moving to for school next week is bigger and they have more staff so they can proabably just fix it in the store rather then send it in.
To make a long story short I was pretty angry since thats all I got from them after my long drive down there and my 25 minute wait once I put my name in.
But anyways, I personally think since the cpu chip is on the top lefthand corner of the mac book (i think), that the extreme heat that this corner of the laptop produces warped the corner of the screen . I'm not really sure if thats the answer but it makes sense to me considering the right hand side of the laptop is not nearly as hot as the left side and the right side is not afected. It could have just heat warped it causing it to not line up properly while closed.
If anyone finds out anymore answers to this problem please let me know...
    Thanks!

  • Trackpad, warped casing, & power supply problems...

    macbook ultimate:
I've been having trouble with the trackpad (and its not software settings such as accidental input etc) but the very centre of the pad is less sensitive and the pointer skips across it. I downloaded sidetrack, and the problem becomes even more pronounced as you can change the velocity curve of the movement.
On top of this, there's a problem with the power supply. When it's been on for a while, there's a high pitched electrical noise coming off it, and sometimes the fan goes into super overdrive for half an hour. (I tried updating firmware, but it tells me I already have the update.
Another ! problem is that the casing isn't fixed onto the laptop properly on the left (it creaks and moves). Anyone else had his problem?
I can live with it for a while as I'm travelling around alot, but was wondering if I can exchange the whole lot for a new one. Its all poorly manufactured in a rush. Quality control is non-apparent.
How long can I leave it before getting it replaced by Apple?
    cheers folks
    George W.

There is nothing obligating them to replace the machine after whatever initial perid (usually 15-30 days) they specify where you bought it. Their promise is to fix any problems, which they will make good on, eventually. It might take 2 or 3 or 4 trips back to the AppleCare depot, with 1 or 2 or 3 weeks delay each time, but they will take care of any problems. I share your frustration, having waited 3 weeks and gotten my machine back with a new problem (warped/loose bezel).

  • Noises-White Macbook

    Hi.
Alright so when I turn on my comp, occationally there is a loud noise that seems to be coming from the fan (under the 7/y keys about). It occurs more frequently when I open the comp from an uneven surface like a bed. Then i can get it to make less noise by picking it up form both sides of the machine. Its like it get bowed upwards, and when i pick it up it goes back to normal.
I'm at 4.5 years of having this computer and i've been traveling with it in my backpack for 2 years now. (so i'm wondering if being in a backpack has "warped" the system alittle bit. causing more friction for the fan?)
any suggestions? I'm thinking of bringing it in. I'd rather spend 50$ today and have this computer for another 5 years.

Based on your admitted use of your "comp from an uneven surface like a bed" and on the additional problem described in your other current topic :
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread/3813948
I suggest you have your Mac checked out by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
The lack of ventilation from using your Mac on a soft surface may have caused heat damage to your hardware.
Be sure to backup all important files before taking your Mac for service.
