WARPING OF ALUMINUM!!! NO DROPS!!! ***??

I got a macbook in october. About 2 weeks later, these warps started showing up. they are mainly around the bottom right corner, around the IR receiver, and the left corner too.
This thing is my CHILD. I haven't let it out of my sight. I am getting annoyed. The battery case doesn't fit at all and it's awful for a perfectionist like me...
I went to the Genius Bar... I had someone who helped me with my iPhone previously. (case creaking) and he deemed it "non defective by Apple's Standards". I had to go through (cr)Apple care...
Here I was again, standing in front of this jerk. He sees it and says, " You dropped it." I pleaded that this thing is my life... I don't drop $1800 things... If I did, I would shut up and get on with life. So this guy does the same thing and gets the same manager... She greets me with the same "Hello Richard," She said the same crap... After a 10 day vacation away from my dentbook, I returned home only to say, "Thats enough"
Who on this forum will back me so I can get it replaced for factory defect... What shall I do?
How should I go about this issue....
From:
A Devastated Fanboy...

I can tell you that the aluminum can be warped i had a macbook air whether it was hot or cold this thing would bend in different directions. Thats why alot of people was having problem with the four rubber feet touching a flat surface. You should go back and annoy them until they give you a new one. Good luck.

  • Premiere Pro CC's Warp Stabilizer BUGS...see for yourself. (7.0.1 & 7.1)

I'd love to hear from Adobe Staff on this one. Hopefully they can focus on fixes over features for the next update, especially for one it's most touted effects.
Warp Stabilizer works great at stabilizing clips in Premiere Pro CC...but I'm beginning to learn that it's quite buggy. The two bugs below simply cripple the user experience when you use the effect a lot like we do. Here's a link to a sample project with just 2 clips (around 1 minute in length each) on two separate timelines with each clip stabilized using the Warp Stabilizer effect. It's only a sample/test project meant to show the issue which can be MUCH larger in a longer/bigger project. Relink to any longer media and you'll quickly see what happens when you have multiple warp stabilizers applied to a Premiere Pro CC project and how problematic it can be.

    See for yourself.
Two VERY Annoying BUGS and One Unfortunate Feature:
BUG #1: (It affects 7.0.1 and the new 7.1 Release/Update)
    1) With GPU Acceleration Enabled and both sequences open, once the timeline render bar has turned yellow, hit save.
    2) Now toggle to the 2nd sequence and you'll notice a delay/freeze as the render bar switches back to red and then yellow again.
    3) Now toggle back to the other sequence and you have the same thing occur. Then, you can toggle back and forth with no delay...until...the project saves (or auto-saves) again...and then the delay/freeze will happen all over again.
    4) Side Note: Even when you right-click on the sequence in the Project window, there's a delay. Right-click on a sequence with no Warp Stabilizers and the drop down list pops up immediately.
What's the Big Deal?: When you have tons more warp stabilizer effects applied to multiple sequences, not only does it take a while to save, but when it does, you are forced to wait while Premiere Pro freezes momentarily. This affects AUTO-SAVE too!!! The more warp stabilizers, the longer the wait. Our sequences have delayed up to 30-40 seconds depending on how much we've used warp stabilizer in each sequence. Imagine if you have Auto-Save set to every 30 minutes or less, well that means that every 30 minutes or less you'll be forced to stop while premiere freezes up for 30-40 seconds or so (depending on how much this effect is used). Other effects do NOT have this issue.
BUG #2: (It affects only the new October Release/Update of Premiere 7.1...this issue is NEW and does NOT occur in 7.0.1!!!)
    1) Take the above project into Premiere Pro CC 7.1 (again, this does NOT occur in the previous 7.0.1 release) and hit FILE>EXPORT>Media.
    2) You'll notice a delay while the EXPORT SETTINGS popup opens.
    3) Toggle to different "FORMATS" in the export settings window and there's more delays every time the format is switched.
What's the Big Deal?: Again, this is a small sample project. When you have a much bigger project with lots more Warp Stabilizers applied to many more clips this "delay" can extend up to several minutes!!! Yes, on a recent project over an hour with MANY warp stabilizers applied to lots of clips, it took 7 minutes for the Export Settings window to pop up after hitting EXPORT>Media. And there was about a one minute delay now when switching formats. This occurs whether GPU Accleration is enabled or not. It ONLY occurs on Premiere Pro CC 7.1
    UNFORTUNATE FEATURE #1:
We obviously use Warp Stabilizer A LOT. It's a great effect. The above bugs cripple the user experience. This last issue isn't a bug, but rather a default setting on Premiere Pro's warp stabilizer that should be changed. Within the settings of Warp Stabilizer there's a section called "Method". The default setting is "Subspace Warp". That sounds pretty cool. But in practice, and we have had lots of practice (eg. THOUSANDS of clips stabilized in just the last few months alone (no exaggeration)), we've found that switching the default method to "Position, Scale, Rotation" is a MUCH more effective way to stabilize a clip. Most of the time it cuts down on that "wobble" that you might see in complex moving clips...but more importantly, 9 out of 10 times it crops the video either the same or less than when you use the default method. By "crops less" I mean that the "Auto-Scale %" is less. Of those 9 times, I'd guess 7 or 8 of them would crop in on the video less while the other 1 or 2 times there would be no change to the Auto-Scale %. Less scaling = better.
What's the Big Deal?: Well, as cool as Subspace Warp sounds, our numbers don't lie. Again, we use this effect on HUNDREDS of clips every week. When you have to go into hundreds and hundreds of clips every week and keep switching the setting so the effect will work better, it gets old real fast. We end up wasting so much time doing this but it's worth it because the results are undeniable. Why not create a CUSTOM PRESET???! Well, that'd be nice if it worked...but it doesn't. The problem with a custom preset like that is that when you drop it on a clip, it doesn't activate/analyze the clip automatically so you have to manually go into the settings and hit analyze which negates any time saved. It's be great if the default "method" was simply changed to Position, Scale, and Rotation. Or at the very least, it'd be great if one could create a custom preset that would automatically activate/analyze the clip it's dropped on (just like the original effect does).
(BONUS FEATURE: It'd also be nice to have the ability to set a "max scaling %" too so you never crop in more than a preselected amount...but first things first...fixes over features.)
NOTE: I'm on a 2011 suped up iMac running OSX 10.8.5

Would it help to  Render these Warp Stabaliized clips instead of leaving them in the sequence w/ the Effect applied?
Any way to "Batch" Warp Stabalize your media before editing so the effect is not needed during the edit?
Sounds like you guys could benefit from having your shooters use a "Stabalizer".
Thanks for the rendering tip rEvolution. Rendering the clips does help with BUG#1, however, I'm not sure if it would truly save us any time because of the constant need to render and rerender tons of very short clips with this effect as we make adjustments to the edit. Warp Stabilizer is GPU Accelerated so playback is really smooth which is great but why does saving a project have any effect on this and cause it to freeze up? And then it works great...until the next time the project is saved. Using any other effect, there is no issue (that I've found) when a project is saved or auto-saved.
Rendering unfortunately has no effect on BUG#2 in Premiere 7.1 (again, this bug/issue did not occur in Premiere 7.0.1)
Regarding "batch" stabilizing...I'm not entirely sure what you mean. We do stabilize dozens of clips at a time before editing because it's imperative for us to know which clips (the sections we've pulled) will stabilize effectively. And then once the longer edit is complete we end up pulling all the best shots from that long sequence and copy/paste it to another sequence to make a 2nd shorter edit.
To say we've gone back and forth about the use of stabilizers would be an understatement. The fact is that we've spent almost 4 years creating a unique way to shoot based almost entirely around the effectiveness of warp stabilizer. It's taken years of trial and error but our style of shooting effectively allows us to mimick and thus replace the need for stabilizers, sliders and cranes. The extra freedom allows us to get MUCH more varied coverage of live events. It's different, I know, but it's fun and rewarding having a unique style. Granted the extra work is passed on to the editing side, but it's worth it IMO especially if these issues were addressed/fixed.
Regarding the "unfortunate feature" I mentioned, I would be satisfied knowing the default method works great for others if one were simply able to apply a custom preset of the clip with the adjusted method and it activated automatically and began analyzing the clip without the need to manually go into settings and hit analyze. That would be nice.
    Thanks again for your input.

  • The New Ipad (Ipad3) Case which one should I get?

I'm purchasing and Ipad3 and I'm looking for a good sturdy case.  I have a 5 year old that will be playing with it so I'm sure it will be dropped on occasion.  I was thinking about an otterbox but I saw one for kids as well.  I just don't know whats best
and if its worth paying the extra money for the otterbox.  Any suggestions are welcomed!!

I'm always amazed to see parents handing a $600 device to someone who has little responsibility.  I've seen too many parents yelling at their kids when an iPad falls on the cement getting out of a car.  Even my iPad has protective skins to keep scratches away.  Yes, the back of my iPad as a big dent from falling on an office chair leg.
I say yes get the Otterbox, unless you plan to be buying a new device every few weeks.  The slippery aluminum back is not forgiving.

In addition to a cracked screen, a fall on the edge risks warping the aluminum back, making glass replacement complicated.

  • Did you know that if your phone is stolen, Find my Phone is useless?

Lessons from my lost iPhone. Despite having a pin to unlock the iPhone, you can simply power off the phone with a long press of the power button. Which means that if your phone is stolen and the thief is smart enough to turn it off (is there one who isn't?), 'Find my phone' is virtually useless!
Also, you can use Siri on a locked phone to make phone calls and send messages. There are also enough tips available on the internet that show you how to use Siri to unlock the phone, making all your photos, emails and other information available to anyone keen enough to find it.
I've written to Apple to tell them that a phone lock should really do what it says - LOCK the phone! If you own an iPhone and would like the same please write to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
Perhaps when enough people write they'll actually take some notice!

This subject is discussed fairly frequently. Find my iPhone is not useful unless a particularly ignorant thief takes it. It's primary use is to find lost phones, not stolen. Requiring a passcode to turn it off eliminates one way a thief can disable Find my iPhone, but it isn't the only one, and probably isn't the one used by most professional thieves. Among other ways to disable Find my iPhone:
    Remove the SIM
    Wrap in aluminum foil
Drop in a shoplifter's bag or backpack with its Faraday shield (copper mesh or foil lining)
Restore the phone from DFU mode
The Activation Lock feature, which prevents a stolen phone from ever being used again, except by the rightful owner, is the more valuable deterrent against theft. Once word gets around that a stolen iPhone is useless the market value of stolen phones will drop precipitously, and thieves will switch to stealing Android phones.

  • Can the IOS be made so you have to give your pw on phone power down. This would prevent from shutting the phone down if lost or stolen so find iphone will still work.

Can the IOS be manipulated so that you have to enter your pw for phone power down. This would prevent find iPhone from being shut off in case of loss or theft.

It could probably be done, but then the complaints would pile up asking "Why, oh why does Apple make me enter my password to SHUT MY PHONE OFF. APPLE, ARE YOU LISTENING?"
it also won't solve the problem, because there are many ways to disable Find my iPhone other than shutting it off:
    Wrap in aluminum foil
Drop in a shoplifter's bag or backpack with a metal screen lining (Faraday shield)
    Remove the SIM
    Restore the phone

  • Wireless Keyboard keeps losing connection, anybody else?

    Hello all.
In the last several days my wireless keyboard (aluminum) keeps dropping it's connection. I can understand if there's a power-down-if-not-used-function built in. But this is happening while I am typing, or if I stop using it for, say, 30 seconds, e.g., while searching this forum for a similar post, the "lost connection" window popped up three times.
It's NOT the batteries. I used to use the widget "Mighty Monitor" but I found that it was not giving the same information as the Sys Prefs keyboard and mouse battery status. My sys prefs say that both keyboard and mouse still have 75% full batteries.
It's NOT the distance, the keyboard is 18" from the Mac.
It's NOT other bluetooth devices...I don't have any, except my Blackberry, and BT is turned off.
I have just installed the latest updates, including one for the Aluminum iMAC. Could this be the problem?
    Anybody????
    All the best,
    Steve

I have also started having the same problem after a month or so of owning my iMac. In addition to the keyboard I also have the wireless mouse and when the keyboard goes dead the mouse becomes very jerky - as the Mac searches for other bluetooth devices? (I say this because the mouse responds in a similar way when I sync my phone via bluetooth).
A quick search for other bluetooth devices reveals a mobile phone which isn't mine - possibly one of my neighbours? (I live in an old block of flats with thin walls!) Do you think this other mobile phone could be interfering with things? I thought one of the strengths of bluetooth was its ability to operate in an environment with multiple bluetooth devices - although I realize my mouse comment already brings doubt on this.
It just feels like something Apple would have thought about. What happens in a room full of iMacs with wireless keyboards?

  • Is it possible to disable all funktions in the loocking screen, even turn off button (also for security reasons if lost cannot be turned of until code entered or battery low....)?

Hello, is it possible to turn of all functions in the locking screen? even the turn off function (also for security reasons / so that it cant be turned of while using find your iphone?)

Yes of course, i know... havn`t lost it but however makes it harder to steal (get bettery out of it or find an area with no cellular connection which are well developed here isnt that easy as just to turn  off the device).
It only makes it marginally harder to steal. There are many ways to defeat Find my iPhone; turning it off is only one of them. Others:
    Remove the SIM
    Wrap in aluminum foil
Drop in a shoplifter's bag or backpack that is metal lined
    Run the battery down
Connect to a computer and restore the phone
Requiring a passcode to turn the phone off would also make the millions of users whose phone was not stolen very annoyed that they can't easily turn off their phone.

  • How come when powering off iPhone they don't ask for lock code

last time my iPhone was stolen I didn't have my imei number written down and apple wouldn't help me find phone so I lost a lot.  When someone has the pass lock activated Apple should have the pass lock used to power off iPhone.  That way if someone steals the device they can't power it off and lose find my iPhone ability.  Please Apple fix this issue, I think it would maybe deter people from stealing them and being able to sell them.

First, you are not addressing Apple. This is a user to user forum. You might be amazed to discover that you are not the first person to think of this. There are several thousand posts about it already. And there are several reasons why this is a bad idea:
Yes, they can't power off to defeat Find my iPhone, but they can defeat it many other ways:
Put it in Airplane Mode from the Control Center (which is enabled even when the phone is locked)
    Remove the SIM
    Wrap it in aluminum foil
Drop it in a shoplifter's shopping bag lined with metal mesh
    Restore the phone using iTunes
    Run the battery down
If your phone ever needs to be restored because you forgot the passcode, the FIRST STEP is to turn the phone off. But you've forgotten the passcode. So how are you going to do that?
The phone will have to be turned on at some time if the thief or the one who buys it ever wants to use it. Find my iPhone will locate it then.
Activation Lock is already a powerful deterrent to stealing an iPhone. Because it is locked to the rightful owner, neither the thief nor anyone they sell it to can ever use the phone. There is no workaround for this, despite almost 2 years of trying by hackers.
The rightful owner can display a message on the phone saying it is stolen, with contact information. This will be displayed as soon as the phone connects to WiFi or cellular data. As anyone who buys a phone will want to verify that it works, this is also a powerful deterrent.
It might encourage you to go and confront the thief if it can be tracked, thus risking your life in addition to losing your phone. Thieves are generally not nice people, and they don't always live in nice neighborhoods.

  • Drop Shadow turns into a glow when applying warp?

    Hello,
I keep trying to apply the same drop shadow to warped text, but AI automatically makes the text glow instead of having the drop shadow. I have tried retyping the text, copying the text from another file, and expanding the appearance befor using the warp and to no avail-- it always turns my drop shadow into a glow.
    whats going on?

Sounds like some of the bugs I am encountering too. Had a large file open, so I took the element out of the big file, pasted into another file, even tried restarting illustrator. What worked - sort of - was ungrouping and then trying to apply the effect. Good Luck!

  • Warp Stabilizer dropping

I have tried dropping the Warp Stabilizer on a number of different types of media files, 7D, uncompressed 1080 25p, 23,97, interlaced, progressive, mp4, Red r3d, DNxHD, Animation... you name it. Sometimes I get an error "Unable to aquire rendered frame" which pops out three times after eachother before dropping the analyze part. Other times, it just stops without any message at all, going back to "press analyze to start analyzing".
It's frustrating because I need to babysit a lot of rendering and I often have to reanalyze after it drops out right in the end. I have set up the RAM accordingly to each thread and everything and other functions within AE seems to work fine, just not the warp stabilizer.
I have searched for answers and just found another thread in here that speaks of the "Unable to aquire rendered frame" message, but no answers in there.
So what is this? Maybe it needs to be patched?

    My system specs are:
    Intel i7 3,7 Ghz
    16 Gb RAM
    Geforce GTX580 3Gb
    Primary disk: Intel SSD
    Win 7 Pro
AE is up to date, footage as mentioned is from a lot of sources, so source files doesn't matter.
It's stored locally and are streamed through a 6Gb/s eSata.
It dops out randomly whenever it analyzes. If I babysit it and press "analyze" every time it drops out of analyzing, then after a while I seem to get it analyzed, but I can't sit infront of it if I have a lot of clips going through stabilization.

  • Dropped laptop - now warped

I recently dropped my laptop, and while everything works, it's now warped. It's kind of like sitting at a wobbly table at a restaurant...
Any idea if it's possible to buy a 'shell' that they can just load the hard drive into? Any suggestions or ideas? Thanks!

Well, let us know when you get around to using the service. I always recommend them, but have never used them personally. If I needed service, I would. In fact, I almost did but it was a money issue. Didn't have the $$ to go through with the upgrade I wanted. (250GB hard drive upgrade).
It'll be good for those of us who may drop theirs or mess it up in the future, knowing $240 will save our investments.
Mine is still mint condition, so I'm good.

  • How can I make a warp/wave animation of my logo, and drop it into muse?

I have made a Logo that has a wave like feature to it, it is round, and I made and animation of it warping, rotating, and moving around the screen with After Effects. Any suggestions as to which program I should be using?
Or is there a way to export After Effects into Edge, or directly to Muse? (It needs to be transparent and on a loop)

Csound1, free speech should have a place in this forum. Bless, you have 13,000+ points one day they might make you a moderator and give you a little badge. Isn't it ironic that Apple and their fanboys have became "Big Brother"?
As the old cliche goes ,"There's no harm in trying". If you can't afford a bill for several hundred bucks, then I would welcome all honest feedback and evaluate my options before paying a large repair bill.
If you don't agree with it don't use it.
There have been many stories of people getting free replacements, a close friend has received four replacement iPhones after the screen cracked from dropping it.
Screens crack due to a variant of reasons, humidity/climate change. If someone punched it and broke it deliberately then of course it shouldn't be replaced but it should be able to withstand some drops/pressure on top.
It may not be under warranty but you will find people who got a nice genius to replace it anyway.

  • (CS5.1) Free Transform and Warp tool causing pixelation and quality drop.

When I free transform and warp a layer to lie flat, sometimes I'll get this harsh pixellation at one end of the layer. It doesn't appear while I'm doing the warp, just suddenly coming up when I hit enter to apply the transformation.
So for example, Ill be transforming this grid, which is originally about 9x this big.
So when I''m running the transformation/warp, it looks like this
Not great, but at least most of the lines are still intact on the left and back (the right side is basically fine looking)
But once I hit enter, I get this
And now like, half the lines I did have are gone, and what's left is super pixelated.
Is there an interpolation setting I could be using? Is it something unavoidable from how distorted I make the layer?

It is a general AA problem with mapping texture on surfaces in acute angles. In 3D programs this is solved by a technique called mipmaping, The 3D renderer calculates the degree of distortions and applies blurring filter where it is needed based on the depth of the 3D space to solve this problem. Unfortunately Photoshop is not a 3D renderer and can't eliminate this. You can try manually to reduce it yourself by applying the same transformation on several differently blurred copies of the layer and then using masks made with manual brushing over the problem areas to reduce the artifact.
Here's an example image of a 3D program solving the problem.
and a quick attempt I made to illustrate the problem using your grid after making it more dense with several multiplied layers. the bottom part is the grid masked with different degree of blurring at the problem areas. As you can see this is not an easy task and the problem may be considered as impossible to be fixed nicely. On top of that  as you can see this approach may require constructing grid patterns on layers so that you can blur the eventual horizontal or vertical directions separately.
Click the image to see it larger without the additional distortion of forum scaling
