Warping of audio quality when recording Synths in GarageBand

I have currently got back into using GarageBand and have noticed a strange error when recording a software synth sound.
When simply playing back the sound through my midi keyboard the sound is fine, but as soon as I hit record and start playing the sound is broken up, and when I stop recording it returns to normal again.
The sound is an ethereal type pad. It almost seems as if Garageband cant handle the sound complexity and is breaking it down but it seems unlikely giving the fact that the platform supports vst's like Absynth which feature plenty of such sounds.
Has anyone else encountered the same problem, and if so, is there a way to correct it?

Your actually using an AU not a VST inside GB. I also use Albino 3. What preset are you using. After you tweaked the Albino preset to your liking check albino signal level output to make sure your new tweaked preset is not overdriving its output. Back off on the master output of Albino if this is the case.
Also check the audio meters on the track you have assigned Albino to in GB. Make sure those levels are ok.
It could also be that you have tweaked a parameter in Albino to the extent that it is beyond the synths parameters to export that sound to GB without distortion, something which may not become apparent until you record it.

  • Poor audio quality when recording video

    Hi everyone.
When i want to record a video on my iPhone 4, the quality of the audio is very poor, i can hardly listen to what i just recorded, but when i use voice notes, it sounds just fine, is there any problem with my software? Hope someone can help me.
    Regards.

Hey there guys, have you found a solution to the problem? I am experiencing the same issue, not sure what is causeing this.. maybe some conflict.? what solved your issue? I have a Iphone 4S, and I would like to know if its a Firmware Issue, hardware Issue or something else?
    thanks guys

  • Any recommendations on how to get better audio quality when recording on iMovie 09?

My audio seems to lag a little & not be entirely in sync with the video.

There is no flash built into the iPad. You'll just have to use additional lighting, or find an app (if any such exists) that allows you to take time exposures (you'll need to have the iPad on a stand).
Night shooting with an iPad really isn't practical, in my opinion, particularly since the camera is of such low resolution. I'd strongly suggest you just use a digital camera or, if you have one, a cellphone with a camera and a flash.

  • Problem with audio quality using Record Audio Comment

I am recording audio comments in Adobe Acrobat Professional using the "Record Audio Comment" tool. The sound quality is bad--very scratchy and has a noisy hum. I am using a good USB headset/microphone. Recordings outside of Acrobat are fine, e.g., in Audacity. I have tried two different microphones with both Acrobat 8 and 9 on two different computers (a desktop and a laptop) with similar results.
I have not found an audio quality setting in Acrobat. Is there some way to improve the audio quality when recording comments? I suspect Acrobat is compressing the audio so much in order to save file size, however, the poor quality makes it almost unusable.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advice. I know I can record outside of Acrobat and then add the pre-recorded audio as a comment, but that defeats the purpose.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.
A few things you can try:
    1. Turning the volume of your TV up too high during a call can cause the kinds of audio problem you describe. Try turning the TV volume down and this should stop the 'feedback' problems you are having.
    2. If you are using external speakers, then try switching these off and using the speakers built in to the TV. The TV was originally tested for Skype using the TV's internal speakers, so if you have a soundbar or other external speakers connected, the audio performance may suffer on Skype calls.
    Best wishes

  • Any way to boost audio input when recording?

Hi; I have been recording speech interviews with Audio-Technica mics on a ProTools set-up and they've sounded great.
I've recently tried recording using the mics in Garageband using a M-Audio Mobile Pre USB, but the audio levels are always too low unless the subject is an inch or two from the mic, which isn't the best way to get quality audio.
Is there any way to boost the audio input when recording in GB or any other tricks people know of?
    thx, Charlie

I'm actually having the same problem, except I'm recording straight into the computer (no interface).
I tried using an MBox, but the computer won't even recognize it...(if anyone's got suggestions for why that is, I'll gladly take them...).
My main question is the same as Charles's, however - how come the input level is so soft when recording using the "Built-In Input" (where I can use a mic, and have mobility) as opposed to the "Built-In Microphone"?

  • When converting from a .wav to a .mov is there a loss of audio quality when using QuickTime?

When converting from a .wav to a .mov is there a loss of audio quality when using QuickTime?

When converting from a .wav to a .mov is there a loss of audio quality when using QuickTime?
That would depend on your work flow. MOV is the generic QuickTime file container and is not related to any particular data compression format. If you perform a simple "Save" or "Save As..." action that merely copies the data in the WAV file to an MOV file, then the data remains unchanged and maintains its original quality. If, on the other hand, your transcode/re-compress the original data to a different compression format, then there is always the potential for some loss in quality. Depending on the codec and/or settings, the potential loss could be inaudible to severe.

  • Losing audio quality when exporting from premiere pro

I have now had this happen with two different videos. I play the video in premiere pro and the audio is fine. I export the video and lose most of the quality of the audio portion. One project is a music session when exported I only get the main vocal the drums aren't audible only a buzz sound is made where the kick drum would usually come in. On another project is a thank you video for a family member and the audio is distorted after being exported. The audio sounds fine inside of the session. Once exported the audio will still work fine on my computer and my iphone 5s as long as I'm wearing headphones, once I try to play the video through my iphone 5s speakers the audio quality is gone, making the noises as previously stated. My iphone can still play other tracks fine but videos and audio exported from Premiere Pro are distorted. Any advice on how I can export the video so I wont lose audio quality when playing the video on an iphone? I know it's not my iphone speakers, they play other songs just fine.

The source files as far as the audio goes are wav files that I've pulled off of my desktop. My sequence settings are 1920 by 1080 at 29.97 frames per second. The export settings are H.264 with the preset YouTube (HD 1080 29.97 FPS) and I've also tried HD video 1080p 29.97 FPS. If this isn't enough information please let me know I'm in the learning phase. Audio wise the quality is set to high and I'm exporting at 4800 kh and a bit rate of 190. I've also tried a bit rate of 320 and 264 I think it is and still had the same problems.  Let me know if I need to do screen shots I really want to figure this out.
    Thanks for your help!

  • I lose volume/quality when I export form garageband to itunes

I lose volume/quality when I export form garageband to itunes

It's been several months since I used Mac OSX Garageband but I used it a lot, I liked it very much *but* I too had this problem with losing volume/quality and it drove me to despair. A lot of my focus was devoted to trying to minimise loss of volume at every step. You'd think the magic of digital made this issue a thing of the past.
More recently I've been using iPad and so far, mainly because of the 'Merge' (bounce) facility this doesn't seem to be such a problem... Yet.
I believe however, you ought to have a look under preferences (I think there is preferences specific to GB and system preferences under Apple logo, you probably know that) there is an option that says something like Maximum Volume for exporting or something. This may seem counter intuitive but try unticking the box, if you haven't already. This should give you the option of increasing the volume but it may clip. That supposed max vol thing really means max vol without clipping... Sorry, this is long winded. Best of luck!

  • Internal mic poor quality when recording in iMovie

I noticed exceptionally poor quality of internal mic when recording acoustic guitar piece on iMovie, with the built in iSight camera. Technically, the sound is called "Phasing" - it sounds like a slow 'whoosh' over all of the audio.
After investigation, I have found the cause to be the Ambient Noise Reduction algorithm added by Apple.
To remove this - go to:
    System Preferences
    Sound
    Input
    *uncheck* 'use ambient noise reduction'
    Problem solved....
Now my question - does anyone know how to use the iSight (built in) and simultaneously and synchronously record audio using an External Mic - eg the Blue "Snowball" - which is a USB mic.
In theory, the mic should plug in and then show up as an external device, but when I select iSight camera as my video source - the Powerbook automatically assumes that I want to use the internal mic as my audio source.
Have tried to go to Sys Prefs and change 'Input' to USB - but no option to do so
    All help appreciated
    SK

    Hi thanks for the response
unfortunately, it's got nothing to do with MIDI (which is just a series of controller information)
The Blue 'Snowball' External mic is essentially a 'USB Device' and should be recognised as such by the Mac. The data will come in as 16bit, 44.1khz AES bit stream and then be assigned a destination.
The problem is that iMovie does NOT allow me to separate the iSight camera from recording with 'internal mic'
I want a way of finding how to seperate them - and then assign the USB mic to be associated with the iSight camera - giving me iMovie/iSight videos - with PROFESSIONAL sound
sorry if i didn't make this clear
    thanks again

  • Poor audio quality when importing CDs (but only some of them)

I am experiencing a bizarre audio quality problem:
When playing or importing tracks from CDs into iTunes 9.0.2, on some CDs there is very poor quality and an audible crackling (like an old scratched lp)whereas on others the quality is perfect. This translates to the iPod as well.
I've looked all over the internet and am now thoroughly confused. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

If you are hearing it both on iTunes playback and on the iPod, it is probably an importing problem, i.e. the track is bad.
When you import, do your Import Settings use Error Correction? If not, turn it on and re-rip one of the problem tracks.

  • Audio Quality when Editing Video

    Hello!
In my currenty project I have 2 video tracks and one separate audio track that I imported from garageband (via itunes). Right now, I'm trying to switch between the two video files, by spliting the video in the right chunks, and changing the opacity so only one or the other is showing (hopefully this makes sense).
When I split the video file or edit it, the audio file gets very fuzzy. In fact there's this weird sound in the background, that almost sounds like a record spinning around or something like that.
It's not in the itunes/garageband file, so iMovie is adding it or making it somehow.
Has anyone else experienced this?? And is there a solution?
    Thank you!
    -Nick

  • Lots of audio pops when recording from mixer

I'm using FCP 5.1.4 on a mac laptop (don't know what type it is, but think it's somewhat recent). I'm recording a stage play's audio.
    Here's my audio flow:
Mixer's 1/4" headphone jack -> 1/4" Stereo audio cable -> 1/8" stereo adapter at other end (have also tried 1/8" mono) -> Laptop's microphone port (no other input audio port available)
I can get a good signal, but there's constant audio pops/clicks happening at a steady rate. I remember reading somewhere else that problems can arise when recording directly from a mixer due to the high signal strength coming from it. Any ideas why this is happening? How do I fix this?

    Phillip Roh wrote:
What is a mic bus level output?
Most better mixers have direct bus ins and outs. Just like plugging in a mic.
Laptop doesn't have a line in port
Get a different computer if you're expecting to enjoy doing audio capture.
If i used the RCA or XLR output jacks, would the popping still occur?
Irrelevant, it's all about signal type, resistance, milliamperes, millivolts and milliwatts. Not connectors. You can put an XLR on your power supply and it wouldn't change the voltage.
I think my workplace may have a few USB audio things lying around. Like it has 2 XLR input ports, then connects to computer through USB. Do you know if they tend to need certain software, or if they're plug and play?< </div>
Unknown from here. this is not a FCP question.

  • Audio Cuts when recording is enable. (Quality Manager)

    Hi
I have deployed a recording QM solution (QM 8.5.2(SR2), CCX 8.5.1(SR4), CUCM 9.1) and I have a critical issue about the quality of the calls.
I'm using a Network Recording using Built in Bridge phone feature.
When a caller call to the agent and the recording is enable, the audio from agent to caller has a lot of cuts. Most than 50% time.
When the call is no recorded works fine.
    Any idea?
    Thank you
    Best regards

    Fix it.
It was g722 and iBLC codec. They were activated in service parameters. Just desactivated them and reset the phones.
    I hope it helps.
    Best Regards

  • How do I make my audio better when recording videos?

what is the best way to enhance audio on videos I make with my iPhone 4?

          Thanks, Bobby
         All good advice.
I went and checked out the link you provided, and started salivating immediately. But $200 is too much for me right now. Looked at the lav (what does that mean?) mic adjacent to it-- lovely, very portable, and almost affordable. I registered, and created a wish list. I think my wedding anniversary or something must be coming up soon...
I was thinking about my barely-there audio today, and just for the fun of it checked my volume button. I NEVER turn it down. Never. But it was, by about half. Does this have any effect on recording, or just ringing? (Can you tell I'm almost totally techno-ignorant?)
Something else occurred to me too. When I was shooting, twice so far (and I am cringing writing this), I was talking really low the whole time. Last night, cuz my hubby was asleep in the next room; this morning, because I didn't want to scare the birds I was videoing away...   uh.....   Well, DUH.
Actually, I have already bought one of those little capsule mics, found it on Amazon. IT WON'T FIT ON MY PHONE WHILE THE CASE IS ON. And I am scared to death to take the case off! The thing's made out of glass, for cripes sake, and I am a CLUTZ.
Thanks again!! I'll be coming up with plenty more stupid questions for quite a while, I'm sure

    THANKS....
MY only concern is that I do not recall the 1080p, I thought my only option was 1080i.
I am not as dumb as I sound!!! LOL
THE HDMI to TV is that from the DVR?
