Warranty / Apple Care question

Does anyone know whether installing my own upgraded hard drive would void my Apple Care extended warranty?

I apologize for posting in the wrong forum but thanks for answering my question anyway.
Yes, the question is about a Powerbook G4 Laptop that I'm asking about. And the warranty expires on Feb 2, 2008. Unfortunately I've already replaced the internal hard drive so I guess that's moot anyway.
Oh well...

  • Zagg/Apple Care question

I have an appointment at the Genius Bar because my phone is one of the 'lucky ones' that has a discolored screen. I had it about a week when I noticed that, when using certain apps and looking at photos, there is a circle-shaped discoloration on the screen. I've looked over the apple care info and I can't find that a Zagg screen protector will void the warranty, but I just wanted to make sure before I drive an hour to the nearest apple store. I'd hate to get there just to find out that they won't replace the phone because I had the Zagg.

Having a screen protector on your iPhone will not void the warranty. I have had 2 iPhones replaced under warranty over the last couple of years and they just remove the screen protector and take the old phone and give me the replacement phone.

  • Apple care question

    Hello all,
I bought my Imac last month. I know it comes with 90 days of free support. However after the 90 days are over, do I have to purchase AppleCare? Is it obligatory to purchase applecare once i purchased my imac? Can I purchase applecare in lets say one year from now?
    Please advise

The original one year limited warranty allows 90 days of phone support. Apple Care extends the warranty an additional 2 years for a full 3 years. *It also extends the phone support for the full 3 years.* Apple Care can be purchased and activated anytime during the 1 year limited warranty up to the day before Apple lists as your purchase anniversary.
If you go to the Apple Support page, in the lower right corner is a field to enter your Mac's serial number to find out the date your warranty expires. You would need to purchase and register your Mac with Apple Care before this date.

You should also have the AppleCare plan transfered to you so you could get help though them if needed.

  • Broken ipod and apple care question

    Hi
I bought my 2nd gen nano 7 months ago and it is now broken. I've done everything I could beside opening it. I wanted to know if i bought apple care now and then send them my ipod right after if that would be problem?
btw the problem is that my songs gets played at 1/4 of the speed (makes the songs intrusting but...)
    thanx
    vince

I don't think the OP dropped his in the bathtub.
Hopefully you haven't tried to turn it on, connect it to the computer or anything like that.
If you are good with electronic devices you can take the iPod apart and set it in a cool, dry place and leave it there for several days. For pictures on how to take it apart go to http://www.ifixit.com.
If you aren't good at taking things apart, just set it aside or buy some silica gel packets (like the ones that come in boxes with things you buy, but you need new ones) and put them, and the iPod, in a sealed plastic bag and let it sit for a couple of days.
After it dries, connect it to power (a wall charger is preferable) for at least 30 minutes then Reset it (hold down the menu and center buttons for at least 6 seconds). If it starts up connect it to your computer, Restore it in iTunes, and then fully charge it.

  • Apple Care question for my Powerbook

Hopefully here is the right place to ask that..
I have a Powerbook which is obviously out of warranty And one of my keys popped off and I was making a research to find a solution fixing that.. I ended up with the apple's support page . It was mentioning about I should pay for scheduling a phone support for that and I accidentally scheduled for this weekend. I didn't intend to do so since my issue can't be fixed over the phone.
So I was just clicking continue to see what my options are . I was expecting to be asked my credit card # the I would close the window but it did schedule the call some how. Weird thing is it did not even ask for my credit card or anything..
I know it might sound a dumb question but am I really going to pay that or if possible how do I cancel it..
    Any experience?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Usually if you submit a request to do a repair it is with a store, not a phone call. Contact the store in question and simply cancel your appointment. If it was by phone, you can always call Applecare, and just let them know of the accident. As for repairing keys, http://www.welovemacs.com/ is a place that often has keys for Macs.

  • Warranty Apple Care

    Hi,
I've got a issue with my macbook pro and it needs to be fixed. Now I can't find the "purchuse-mail" from apple which I got about 2 years ago. Am I somewhere registered or my divice? Or can I reprint this proove that I bought the macbook pro myself at the internet apple store? I bought a applecare with it so maybe this is enough?
    Thanks for your answer....

Thanks, I've seen that and all has these green marks so all should be still covered. But I think in the shop I need to bring a paper or something or is this overview online good enough?
Thanks again for that AMAZINGLY fast answer!

  • Question re: Apple Care

I have inherited a G5 iMac from a recently deceased relative. I'm not that interested in keeping it, but before I sell it, I'm going to have to resolve an issue with the OCD drive, which is having a hard time recognizing and reading disks (including the troubleshooting disks that came with the iMac).
I'd like Apple to take care of this, and that's where my question arises: the computer was not purchased with Apple Care, but my relative (taking my advice, I believe) bought Apple Care about six months after originally buying the iMac.
Unfortunately, she wasn't in the best of health at the time, and was not entirely together mentally: for that reason, she did not register the Apple Care plan before she died -- so I have also inherited the unopened Apple Care box.
I've just now started to turn my attention to her iMac and discovered the problem with the drive. My question is, since she bought the Apple Care plan within a year of buying the iMac, is her computer still covered even though she didn't register her computer in Apple Care?
One last thing: while I'm sure a lot of you have valuable advice to offer about the drive, please be sure to answer the Apple Care question first when you respond. The iMac is not a top priority for me, and unless there's an obvious quick fix I would prefer to ship it off to Apple if possible.
    Thanks!

    Hi George,
Sorry about that, but if it's unopened, unregistered, this AppleCare does not guarantee any Mac yet.
It is just like one of those you can find on eBay or in some stores.
When you open the box and register, using the number you find inside, of course it has to be for a Mac that is still within its first year of warranty.
Your only (very slight) chance, is to find an agent who would believe and understand (with the help of original papers), and who'd have the power to trick the registration dates.
(mentioning this because myself I have a 5 week AppleCare extension, because my Mac was kept at repair for 7 weeks, meaning there ARE such very nice, competent and commonsensed agents at Apple)
    the OCD drive:
Have you tried "the obvious": cleaning it using one of these lens-cleaners CDs?
Sometimes it doesn't take more that some dust... hopefully?
    Good luck!

  • Apple Care+ for iPhone 4S (with Sprint)

I also have an Apple Care+ question that I cannot seem to find the answer to. The carrier will be Sprint, however I don't believe that matters for my question.
The Sprint representative that I was talking to the other day said that even though Apple Care + covers accidental damage (I have read the official product description) that it does not cover screen breakage. And that if you crack the glass screen you still have to either pay to have it replaced by a third party or purchase a new phone at the unsubsidized price. I found that comment interesting but I did not want to challenge her on the subject.
I do not see anything in the Terms and Conditions that excludes the breaking of the screen.
Did I miss that section in the Terms and Conditions? Is what she was telling me true? I see that as the #1 reason to purchase Apple Care+ for the unit.
    Thanks,
    Timm

If you want to return your iPhone, you must do so through whoever you purchased the iPhone from. If that was someone other than an Apple Store, either online or physical, then that dealer's return policies will apply; Apple will have nothing to say about it. You may have to talk to Sprint in regards to your contract with them. I believe you have 30 days to return your phone and cancel your contract, but I'm not certain about Sprint.
iTunes works fine under Windows on many, many systems, including Acer. Perhaps if you'll post details here, someone can help you sort things out. The thread you refer discusses an earlier version of iTunes and probably no longer applies even if that were the problem on your system, though I cannot say with certainty.  Note that if you are running Windows 7 Starter on your netbook, that version is reported to have problems with a lot of software, not just iTunes. Many people have installed and run iTunes quite successfully, though.
they claim iTunes is a whole seperate brand from Apple computers they know nothing about
I don't know who you talked to, but either there was a misunderstanding - the statement would apply perhaps to the iTunes Store, but not to iTunes as a program - or that person was an idiot. iTunes, the program, is most definitely an Apple product and should be supported fully by the Apple Store technical staff.
    Regards.

  • How can I register Apple care for my iPad if my ipad's warranty is not expire yet?

Apple care for my iPad will be expire in November 14, 2013. I want to extend my iPad's warranty. I already bought Apple Care warranty but when I register online it said I already had a warranty for my iPad. The question is, how can I extend my iPad's warranty?

You can only buy apple care once to extend your original warranty from one year to two. You can't keep reupping it every year if I'm understanding that's what you're trying to do.
After your device is two years old it's out of warranty and not eligible for any warranty from Apple (some retailers sell you up to 3 years of coverage, but you had to get that with the device)

  • Apple care/ American Express Warranty - Worth it?

My year is almost up as far as the warranty goes, and I purchased this on my american express card which doubles the warranty.
I've only had to call apple once and this was a battery issue, they sent the battery overnight(excellent service)
My question is if something like this occurs again, something small but important(cdrom, battery) - will I have to contact apple or american express?
I am debating on should I get apple care, if it is a huge issue I am sure I could just send it back to amex, but if its something small, does anyone know how this works?

If you don't have Apple Care and your one year is up, you'd contact American Express. They may have you get a repair estimate, and then they'd decide whether to pay for the repair, replace the item, or reimburse you for the original cost. (You would need to have all of your original receipts and not be behind in paying your bill at the time you filed the claim.) More info can be found here:
    https://www124.americanexpress.com/cards/cda/dynamic.jsp?name=BuyersAssuranceCCSGFAQ&type=intFAQ
Now, what happens if you buy Apple Care? (I purchased my MacBook with AmEx and bought Apple Care at the time, so I wondered that myself.)
This is what the Buyer's Assurance Plan says (on page 2):
"If you purchase an additional service contract or extended warranty with a product which is otherwise eligible under the Buyer's Assurance Plan, and the combined coverage provided by both the original manufacturer’s warranty and the purchased service contract does not exceed five years, then the product is eligible for coverage under the Buyer's Assurance Plan. The Buyer's Assurance Plan will extend the warranty time period and mirror coverage of the original manufacturers' warranty up to one additional year after both the original manufacturer’s warranty and the purchased service contract have expired. ... "
Since the Apple warranty is one year and Apple Care adds three years, the Buyer's Assurance would be tacked on when the Apple Care ended. However, it's not really clear from the way that is worded whether or not you'd have to buy the extended warranty at the time you bought the product. That would be a good question to ask American Express.
The Buyer's Assurance Plan also says (page 2):
"If you buy an additional service contract or an extended warranty for a computer, computer component or part that already comes with an original U.S. Manufacturer’s warranty, unless such coverage is provided from and
administered by the original manufacturer, coverage under the Buyer’s Assurance Plan does not apply."
Since Apple Care is provided by Apple, it would seem that this exception would not apply. That would be another question that might be worth asking American Express.
The American Express Buyer's Assurance plan can be found at https://www124.americanexpress.com/cards/benefits/includes/pdf/buyersAssurance20 03.pdf

  • Will replacing the battery in my MBP void the Apple Care Warranty?

I have a 15 inch 2010 Macbook Pro. I'd like to replace the hard drive, and I've found various videos and sites with instructions. There are two questions that I can't seem to answer though. Are there certain brands or speeds I will need to use, and does replacing the hard drive void the three year Apple Care I bought with the MBP?

Replacing the hard drive does not void the warranty nor AppleCare, though if you cause any damage doing the replacement, that could void the warranty, and of course the warranty will not cover the third-party hard drive. Replacing the battery, as your subject line says, will void the warranty, the battery not being user-replaceable if you do indeed have the 2010 MBP.
Others here can probably comment re. drive type; brand won't matter unless there is a cable for the thermal sensor in the MBP as there is in some other systems in which case drive would have to be of the same brand for the cable connector to match up.
    Regards.

  • Global Warranty without Apple Care?

    Hi,
So I'm going to Hong Kong this sunday on a unknown amount of days, depends how long I'll have to be there.
And at the same time the new MacBook Pro's with Retina displays have been released, and I'm very tempted to get one.
However my question is, if I buy one in Hong Kong, and when I return to Sweden, do I still get warranty without buying Apple Care Plan?
Or is global warranty only with Apple Care Plan?
    Thanks in advance
    Best Regards

Well, that almost sounds too good to be true.
Global Warranty AND passable warranty? Wow, perfect.
The only downside so far with the new retina MBP is that you're not able to change RAM, SSD or anything for that matter.
Considering buying one even tho, but I'm going to try them first.
Also, the regular MBP doesn't have IPS, right? Because I tested one today, and looking from different angles (but in front) gave the screen a pretty hard yellow tint.
Shouldn't happen to the new retina, right?
    Thanks
