Warranty for my T61 laptop

Hi,
I bought my T61 on March, 2008. My laptop's LCD has a less than half an inch area failure which seems to be the cause of extrusion. I put my laptop in my bag on my way to work. My question is whether this can be covered in the normal 1 year warranty (included in prices)? If not, how much would it cause to repair the LCD?
Thanks!

Lenovo customer service rep is the one who told me to upgrade. I'm just fixing it now because it took so long for my warranty upgrade to take effect. I have to wonder if they waited so long to see if I would make any claims during that time and decline me.
I also think my screen had a small crack near the edge when it was delivered to me because over time it slowly inched it's way down my screen and I never dropped it. There is no way I can prove it so that might be why she told me to upgrade.
I'll let you know how the warranty works out. I'm calling today.

my parents bought me a laptop as a graduation gift i really love it...my prob is that i did not get a warranty for it..can i still get one eventhough it is been over 6 months?

You cannot purchase from Best Buy directly anymore for that extended warranty since it has been 6 months.
The best you can do now is purchase an extended warranty directly from the manufacturer.

Well I assume that if the laptop is under warranty you should be able to get service for it. You can check the warranty status at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=LOOK-WARNTY#sw  That should tell you what the terms of your warranty are. If it is an international warranty you can get service at your local lenovo distributor. My t61 for example has a 3 year warranty that is valid in Turkey,. But also I have 1 year international, 2 years pan-Europeand and 3 year Turkish warranty. That was one ofthe stipulations in the contract when our thinkpads were purchased....

  • Extended warranty for DV6 motherboard?

I bought a DV6 laptop for my daughter a little over a year ago, and about 2 months after the 1 yr warranty expired she started noticing a lot of heat on the bottom of her laptop.  I helped her clear out the dust in the fan area and made sure she was using a separate lap-pad with a fan.  We couldn't seem to cool it down much and then the display started having problems, and now she just gets a single flash on near the caps lock key.  Which I think means a processor or motherboard failure.  I've done a lot of checking around and have seen some mention that HP has an extended 2 yr warranty for this problem.  Does anyone know if that is true and if so?

I just recieved a refurbished S100 and it came with a one year warranty.

  • Should I get an extended warranty for a T520?

I already have a 2 year warranty including my AMEX 1 year extended warranty.
I heard that if something is going to go wrong, it will happen in the first two years.
Lenovo has a 30% sale on extended warranties.
I can get a three year for $80.00
    A two year is $50.00

Network Card: Intel(R) WiFi Link 1000 BGN, OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

    Hi JWBlue
It depends on your needs. Some people change their computer every 1 or 2 years due to trendy, performance need, etc.
If you think your T520 can fulfill your needs, etc. for 3-5 years, then you may consider to upgrade your warranty. For me, I would choose to upgrade the warranty to play safe.
In my opinion, upgrading warranty or not is trying your luck.
    If you upgrade your warranty:
Pros: You could save a lot if your machine fails within the long warranty (3-5yr) period. (Parts are expensive)
Cons: You need to spend a bit more for warranty (+$80, higher initial cost)
If you do not upgrade your warranty:
Pros: You could save the warranty upgrade cost (lower initial / purchase cost)
Cons: If your machine fails after the short (1yr) warranty and you wish to get it repaired, parts and service cost would be more expensive than the warranty upgrade cost.
    Happy 2012!

  • Warranty for components

my reuqirement is Iam creating Laptop(asset) as equipment in ie01 ,
i need to maintian warranties for Laptop which is header one
under this i need to maintain warranties for componets of laptop example ,anti virus( expiry of anti virus ) and key board warranty perios and some other soft wares warranty details
    for above requirement
i created laptop as equipment and i maintained the warranty for laptop and  componets of laptop like anti virus, monitor and key board  i maintained as charctertsics, i asiged this chartceristcs to Laptop(eqipment in ie02)
but my requirement is i need to  maintain waranty for compoents  of laptop also
how can i map this requirement

    Hi Sukender,
I think you can map this requirement better by making monitor, keyboard and antivirus as sub-equipment. I guess the warranty provided to the laptop and to anti-virus,etc will be different , hence you can have different warranty for all the sub-equipment of a superior equipment.
With a BOM like structure ,for the equipment, you can't map the warranty requirement. More ever i would suggest you to cretae a template reference superior equipment and then with copy referenece , you can create the equipments (laptop).
Also if you have created charecterictics say as hours for the laptop, then with the BOM like structure you will not be able to assign the same to the anti-virus. So in  your case its beneficial to have equipment hierarachy to have different warranties.

  • Purchasing an extended warranty for the Sealed Battery

    Hi,
I purchased an open box Lenovo X1 which has 2yrs onsite warranty remaining. I am now trying to purchase an extended warranty for the sealed battery unit but not sure how to proceed.
I have found the product 04W7993 which sounds like the right item but not sure if it would apply to my machine.
Can anyone confirm if this warranty product could be used to extend the warranty for my laptop? Even though it was open box, the cycle count was only 1 and the battery still has 100% of manufacturer capacity reported by the Power Manager.
I have tried ringing Lenovo Warranty services and the Lenovo UK sales line but neither could help me.
    Cheers!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    The 1294 system has a standard 3 year on-site warranty, the following are the options available;
The problem for you may be that the accidental damage cover needs to be puchased, I believe, within 90 days of purchasing the system.  As you purchased an "open box" system I'm not sure if this is still possible, at best ask the shop where you purchased it;  if they had purchased it as a demo-system it should be possible for you to purchase both.

  • Extended warranty for Satellite A300-15C

    Hi
I am new here so sorry if I posted it under wrong thread.
I want to buy extended warranty for Satellite A300-15C (1+1 standard warranty) so I wanna ask which warranty package gives the longest protection for this model.
2+2 is the longest? ID: SE5054I-PDB.
Secondly, and more importantly, the laptop is more than 1 year old. When i was buying it, in retail store they told me that the extended warranty can be activated at any time, but now I see that there is this 30 days deadline policy. Is there any way how to overcome?
    Thanks

I'm pretty sure battery capacity doesn't related with power performance of your system.. (in a notebook)
well perhaps this is just another way of people to advertise their website.
anyway. go for the biggest capacity, make sure it's genuine, and you can unplug ur battery if you dont  have one

  • Lenovo T61 laptop touchpad specification question

    Hello,
I have a 2.5 year old Lenovo T61 laptop (14" screen). Which Lenovo laptops have the same touchpad (trackpad/trackpoint) technology as the T61? The touchpad on the T61 is by far the best touchpad I have used on any laptop. The touchpad feels good on your fingers (surface roughness?), is very responsive, and can be used for hours. Does anybody know the specification for this touchpad?
    Thank you,
    treaders

    T61 had similar touchpad to the T60, R60, R61, Z6x, etc.
But the later thinkpads, T400, T500, R400, R500, W500 have a larger touchpad, but the feel of the touchpad surface is about the same.
The current (latest) thinkpads, T4x0s, T410, T510, W510 have changed the surface feel of the touchpad. Most people like it, but some people don't.

  • Bad Ethernet Ports on T61 Laptops

We have 175 T61p laptops and have had multiple problems from bad drivers corrupting hard drives, bad drivers causing lockups, bad video drivers causing issues with dual screens and bad bios causing lockup of PC's on Docking stations.  All of which Lenovo support said they never had any reports of but then months later they have a fix ready for general release.  Oh, what ever happened to honesty! So here is the latest issue.
Have you experienced a bad ethernet port on your T61 laptop.  We have found that around 20 laptops (11.4% failure rate)  that within a year the physical ethernet port on the laptop stops working.  Many times it will work for a while but if  you so much as touch the cable it looses the connection.  It seems that the problem is that the second pin from the right fails and no longer "pops" back up to the correct position.  Sometimes the port will work if you push the cable firmly into the port but if you move the laptop or touch the cable it will become disconnected.  The same cables work fine in other laptops and switches.
Of course (as with all the other cases) Lenovo has told us that no one else has ever reported the problems and our users who get new laptops every two years have suddently started putting phone cables into their laptops (when was the last time anyone used a phone cable, our phones don't even use them anymore!)
Have you had to have your ethernet port replaced?  Do you have a bad ethernet port?
Grab a flashlight and look at your ethernet port.  Is one of the pins lower then the others?
If so please contact me on this post.  I am trying to work through this problem with Lenovo but they will not honor their substandard machines!
    Thank you!

I don't the machine type matters. The drivers and the ports are the same.
We use nVidia Discrete Graphics and we have had a couple of those get corrupted - fixed by an uninstall and reinstall - but not at a higher rate than the Dell PCs we're waiting to come off lease.
We also have about 30 R61i's which are almost the same with Intel graphics and they have been pretty stable, too.
The biggest issue so far was the ThinkPad wireless card driver on the T400s cause blue screens when trying to change your Windows password but that is a known issue and going back to an earlier wireless card driver solved that.
    The pins look fine, too.
What are they doing there to bend those up?

  • How do I Find/Set/Change a Bluetooth passkey on a T61 laptop with the Lenovo US/Eng Vista OS image?

I purchased a T61 two years ago. It came with the Lenovo Vista Ultimate OS, US/English.  The T61 has Bluetooth, which I never used until now.
I try to pair a cell phone and a PDA (both Palm devices) with the T61, and the devices ask for the T61's Bluetooth Passkey. I don't know what the passkey value is, nor do I see anywhere to set, change or enter it.
This is how I know the the Bluetooth device driver is working on the T61: 1- The BT icon shows in the taskbar, the BT controt panels open, and even in Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Bluetooth Devices, the phone name shows up. And strangely enough, at the bottom of the control panel, when the phone is listed (is discoverable), it shows "Paired: Yes", "Authenticated: No", attached image shows these values.
I'm stumped. Where do I lookup, set or change the T61's Bluetooth passkey?

Unfortunately that is not working. I've tried 0000, 000000, 00000000, 1234, and 123456 as the keys.  No popups, no response whatsoever on the T61.
The devices seem to wait some timeout period and then a message "cannot connect to T61...". I don't have the exact message here in front of me, but can get it if need be.

    Hello Steve.
You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
