Warranty question - iPod nano as a gift

Hi everyone,
I received my iPod nano as a gift, but the person who gave it to me has lost the proof of purchase. The support website says that I need my proof of purchase to prove that I bought the iPod less than 1 year ago so that I can get support. What should I do? Thanks!

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Apple should still have a date of purchase on file--at least close to the one that it was purchased. The iPod nanos have not been out for a year, so you could argue that it is impossible for it not to be under warranty.

  • Complicated question: iPod nano/playlists from cloud

A little hard to explain but here goes...
I have an old iPod nano without internet capability.  If I get iTunes Match, I can pop in a CD & upload the tracks to my iMac.  They will then be available in the cloud.  I assume I can then delete the track from my iMac & still have access to it in the cloud for streaming.  Right?
Assuming that's right, if I have a playlist that I sync with my iPod, will it still work with tracks that I have in the cloud, but not physically on my computer.
Here's how I think it works:
I make a playlist from songs in the cloud synced with my iPod.
    I connect the iPod.
iTunes will DL the songs onto my computer in order to transfer them to my iPod.
    I disconnect the iPod.
I delete the tracks from my Computer.  (They're still in the cloud.)
The next time I connect & sync my iPod, will it lose the tracks that are in the cloud but not on my computer?  Will it re-DL them?
My goal is to have a large library to choose from for my iPod without keeping all those tracks physically on my iMac.

    Hi
I suggest that you read this Make and keep a backup of your iTunes library, and only stream from the cloud.
The music needs to be on your hard drive to sync with the iPod nano. If you delete tracks from your hard drive, they will be removed fron the nano next time you sync.
Why do you need to stream music on your imac? Do you need to free up hard drive space?

  • My Japanese friend gives me a new iPod Nano as a gift...

...upon coming to Hawaii. Every year he and his wife bring something for my family. This year my gift was a brand new iPod, pre-loaded with 155 songs of JPop & Japanese Reggae Music. But the main function of all my iPods have been to play podcasts for me. So I immediately start downloading podcasts. But today I realized I have a problem...I think? My brand new iPod is for windows machines!!!! I've been able to download podcasts so far with no problems on my Mac! But, am I gonna be able to download iPod upgrades for my iPod...via my Mac?
But if these iPods are on different platforms(OSX to Windows), how am I able to download podcast?

But, am I gonna be able to download iPod upgrades for my iPod...via my Mac?
    Not without restoring the iPod.
But if these iPods are on different platforms(OSX to Windows), how am I able to download podcast?
Only upgrading the iPod's firmware and storing files that are 4GB or more on it require that the iPod is in the Mac format. Regular syncing or transfer of content isn't affected.

  • ITunes & iPod Nano difficulties

I've been using iTunes for awhile now, but just recently received an iPod Nano as a gift. I connected the iPod, and iTunes automatically recognized it, and appeared to to download all of my songs and playlists onto the iPod.
When the iPod is connected, it appears in iTunes just fine, and iTunes claims that all of my music is on the iPod. However, the iPod disagrees, and I see none of my music on the actual iPod itself.
I've updated and reset the iPod, as well as checked for iTunes updates (I'm up-to-date) to no avail. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the quick reply. When I get to 'Disk Management', no drive letter or listing for the iPod appears on the list (yes, the iPod is connected with through USB port, and is recognized by iTunes).Any suggestions on how to assign a drive letter to the iPod?

  • IPod nano Shuts Down my Windows 7 in the middle of syncing

What the heck... I received this iPod Nano as a gift, moved all of my items into iTunes, only to have it repeatedly shut down my PC mid-sync.  I've seen this issue in threads dating back to 2010, but I haven't been able to find any posting that actually fixes it, and no formal bulletin from Apple. Perhaps I haven't searched hard enough or long enough, but I've certainly tried.  If anyone knows where an answer exists, could someone please re-post the link here?  iPod syncs 1/4 of the way through, then completely shuts everything OFF.  Have tried numerous times, verified as current all the drivers I can think of, checked for port conflicts (as best as I know how), shut off anti-virus... I'm about to give up and return it to Apple.  I'm using a Gateway Windows 7.
I'm also suspicious that it may possibly have something to do with the content (?)  I have a fully legal audio-book on CD that I'd sync'd to my pc, (and never had a problem syncing to my Droid) ... this is one bit of content that's never made it onto the iPod.
    Thanks for the help!

  • Charging my new ipod nano

Just got the ipod nano for a gift. Got it all set up and all went well. Bought a 5 way dock that we could connect it to our receiver and play it. That works fine but was supposed to charge it and after 4 hrs. it was dead. Then we connected the other cord and plugged it into to the wall, and it will charge. However we thought it would charge thru the receiver without being plugged directly into the wall. Now we took it up north and played it in a portable dock player, which our married kids use to play and charge theirs up there. Well ours would play but not charge. The message, accessory not compatible with charging ---came up. Dang is the only way to charge to bring the cord or puter with us??????????????????? Help me, I know nothing bout Ipods and have been all over the site, and cannot find the answer

You get "Charging is not supported with this accessory" if you plug an iPod nano 4th generation, iPod touch 2nd generation, or iPhone 3G into an older accessory like some speaker docks, a Bose SoundDock I, some FM transmitters/car chargers, and some built-in iPod car adapters.
Scosche (among others) offers adapters that allow you to use the new iPods with older accessories:
    http://scosche.com/products/productID/1667
    http://scosche.com/products/productID/1695
    http://scosche.com/products/productID/1694
The reason for the charging issue? The new iPods only charge from "USB power" while the older accessories only provide "Firewire power". "USB power" is 5 Volts on pin 23 of the 30 pin iPod connector and "Firewire power" is 12 Volts on pins 19 and 20. Aha, now you see the problem.

  • IPod Nano Warranty

Hello..I'm from Malaysia. I am more likely to purchase an iPod from USA since I'm coming to USA and IPod Nano is cheaper compare to my home country. So the iPod Nano warranty is a local or international warranty. Can I send for repair or claim in Malaysia, if I come over any problem. Hope someone could help me to answer my question. Thank you and have a pleasant day !

    The iPod warranty is international.

  • My ipod nano 6th gen fell out of my pockey and the screen cracked badly, is there any coverage for this under warranty? I just bought it a month ago. If not what are the options for getting it fixed

My ipod nano 6th gen fell out of my pocket and the screen cracked badly, is there any coverage for this under warranty? I just bought it a month ago. If not what are the options for getting it fixed? It is pretty frustrating, it fell from about 3 feet out of my pocket and now looks like it was beaten by a hammer.

he advises restarting by inserting the OSX disc and pressing down the C button to reboot from there then selecting disk utility, hard disk and repair.... Does he mean me to hold down the C key on the alpha keyboard or the ctrl key?
Should I just ask for my money back??? If it is a simple repair do I just literally push the disc in, push the power button and hold down the C button?
That's where I would begin, too, with
    Repair Disk
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.TStatus of HDD at the bottom of right panel, and report if it saysanything but Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
If DU reports errors it cannot repair you will need touse autility like TechTool Pro,Drive Geniusor DiskWarrior
First we need to determine if the issue you are experiencing with the computer is software or hardware based. Once we have gotten things sorted out there should be time enough to make you decision about keeping or returning it.

  • I had an ipod nano its earphones are not working.. a few months back my ipod broke and i purchased a new ipod touch but its earphones died too so i got them replaced. is it possible to replace my earphones of ipod nano with the warranty on my ipod touch ?

can i claim the warranty of another earphone on one ipod i.e. getting two earphones on the same warranty serial number...

Because the warranty for your iPod touch does not cover manufacturing defects with your iPod Nano.  You are talking about and dealing with two seperate products.

  • Can I load songs and photos into an Ipod Nano I have purchased as a gift?

I have purchased an Ipod Nano 2GB as a gift for my 9 year old granddaughter for Xmas.
Before sending it I'd like to load some songs & photos on it, from my own Ipod Library and computer.
I'm concerned that doing this from my computer will only complicate things when they receive the Ipod and then install it on their own computer. The family is not real computer literate and the simpler the better.
What advice does anyone have - best to leave the new Ipod untouched and empty and have the initial install with Itunes/Apple on the computer they will be using? (Windows XP as well)
    Thanks very much!

Personally I think it would be best to leave it. To use an iPod on multiple computers it has to be set to manual update. If your granddaughter wanted to update her iPod automatically (which is the simplest way) whatever you put on would get erased as the songs and pictures wouldn't be on her computer. Why not send along an iTunes gift certificate with it so she can buy some songs she'd like? Also, point the family to this web page, there's lots of useful information for new users here: iPod Nano Fast Start: New User's Guide to iPod Nano
