Was any wifi range issues of ios5 fixed in ios5.1?

hi all...
not really that dumb, neither am i blond...,
but lately i feel like one........
when i had ios3.3 to 4.3 on my iphone 3gs, my wifi signal level and range was fantastic...
i had strong wifi signal and impressive range too.
when i updated to 4.4, i noticed wifi signal level dropped allot, and when i updated to 5.0, 5.0.1, it dropped even more dramaticaly, to then point were i cud only get about 30% signal level....when im standing right next to the wifi router....and no signal if im in the room next door....
i googled my problems, and countless people experience the same troubles.
many claimed that some wifi signal booster whould , after buying it, fix the issue..., but when i googled it, many people were saying that its crap.
can anyone shed sum light please?
i would really like to understand why the drop in hardware performance and if anyone thinks apple will ever fix it?
tnx

No such version of iOS exists.
Not sure what Wi-Fi issues you're referring to.  I've never had Wi-Fi issues with my 3GS or 4 on any version of iOS that couldn't be resolved by the basic troubleshooting as outlined in the User's Guide.

  • IPad 2 WiFi Range Issues (but not issues with connectivity when in range)

Okay. I hate to start a new thread when there are bunches of threads on the iPad 2 having WiFi problems (particularly with 5Ghz networks and also related to 4.3). Nonetheless, I'm not seeing anyone talking about range in these forums.
Issue: iPad 2 WiFi range is not as far as iPad 1 (with no cover on either).
Alternative Explanation: iPad 2 has difficulty connecting to Airport Express or Time Capsule extended networks.
Devices: iPad 2 3g, iPad 1 3g (iOS 4.3), iPhone 3gs (iOS 4.3), iPhone (iOS 3.2x), iMac, MacBook Pros, etc.
Network Router: Simultaneous Dual-Band Airport Extreme (latest version) set up with 2.4, 5 ghz and Guest Networks (each with their own name).
Network Extender: Airport Express (latest version) extending the 2.4 ghz network
Network Extender 2: Time Capsule (original, single band) extending the 2.4 ghz network
Longer Description: iPad 2 connected without an issue to the 5 ghz network and the 2.4 ghz network when it was in the same room as the Aiport Extreme. Didn't have any issues maintaining that connection.
However, the iPad 2 doesn't work in any of the farther rooms and can't see the network. iPad 1 and iPhones have no issues (and typically show 1 or two bars). I believe they typically are connecting through the Airport Express (but it could be the Time Capsule).
Given that the iPad 2 isn't even seeing the networks, I'm guessing it's a range issue, but hoping it's not.
Anyone else seeing this? Any fixes?

While it is possible that an Apple moderator (Apple host) could pass some information to an Apple development/support group, in practice this doesn't really seem to happen (at least often). I believe that the moderators are kept quite busy just administering the forums and keeping them under control (no spam, ads, abuse, etc.). I've never seen a post by an Apple host here or seen a technical correction to a post (and there is certainly a lot of incorrect information posted here).
Unfortunately, a lot of new posters here seem to think that they are talking directly to Apple and post bug reports, feature suggestions, complaints, etc. These would be much better submitted via the Apple feedback vehicle at http://www.apple.com/feedback. These are not anonymous, are directed to the appropriate product and provide an email contact for Apple to get back to the submittor if more detail is required.

  • Iphone 5 wifi not stable/wifi range issues

I know there are loads of discussions but every discussion that I went through seemed without any solution.
I have just bought a new iphone 5 considering that my iphone 4 broke down.  With the iphone 4 I have never had any wifi instability even on the latest ios 6.1.4
I noticed that when I'm near my home router wifi stability is better.  My home router  has the 5ghz signal too.  When I'm near another 2.4ghz router, and with near I mean 1.5 metres the wifi signal keeps changing from 2 to 3.  I noticed that it seems to have a shorter range as well.
Is there something that can be done?  Now I'm feeling more of an idiot.  I should have waited for the new iphone but couldn't wait and I didn't know that the internet is filled to the brim with iphone 5 wifi issues.
    PLEASE HELP
PS  I did a hard reset, removed a plastic cover but none of this helped.

    Hey MGV1,
Thanks for the question and detailed information. There are definitely a lot of factors that come into play when troubleshooting Wi-Fi signal strength, one of which is interference:
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth: Potential sources of wireless interference
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1365
iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
All in all, there are a bunch of factors that can impact network performance and range (2.4GHz vs. 5GHz, standards like 802.11n vs. 802.11ac). It may be best to consult with your ISP or network administrator, or look into extending the range of your network:
Wi-Fi base stations: Extending the range of your wireless network by adding additional Wi-Fi base stations
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4145
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Anyone have Wifi range issues with the 5s

It seems the 5s that I have has a much shorter wifi range than my iPad 3 and also my wifes Iphone 4. Does anyone else have this issue? Anyone any suggestions?

Thanks for the response - I tried this. It does not seem to help with the range of the wifi reception.
I also restored the phone, and followed apples reccomendation for the router settings. Except for the switching from 20/40 to just 20MHz - I have not noticed any difference. My 5S is consistently dropping the wifi, and also often shows only 1 bar of wifi strength while my wifes iphone 4 is 3 bars, my ipad is 2 or 3 bars and the apple TV is also connected without any issues.

  • Very poor WiFi range issue

Hi guys, I recently switched from AT&T DSL to Comcast Blast. I am using a Netgear C3000 (the combo modem/router deal), it's in my office, centrally located in my long, single level home. When I run a speed test using ethernet from my office computer, it's very fast, up to 90 mbps. When I try a speed test with my WiFi from my office computer, it's also very good, 25-35 mbps. However, the wireless signal drops off pretty quickly as I go toward my living room. When I'm in my living room, I can't even get my phone/laptop/smart TV to acknowledge the wireless signal. When I was using AT&T DSL wireless, I got a signal in my living room. It was slower, but it worked.
I switched to Comcast expecting better speeds, and while I get that in my office, I can't get it anywhere else in the house. Thus far, this has not been an improvement. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Thanks!Combo devices always leave much to be desired as far as wireless range and signal....  most users purchase thier own higher quality router and then "BRIDGE" the combo device....  Netgear R6300 & R7000 greatly increase the range and strength of a wireless signal when compared to the Combo devices...  but your selection should be yours alone after doing the research...

  • My iPad says there was a previous billing issue and to fix it in purchase history but I can't figure out how to get there.

I can't download any apps until this problem fixed

Launch iTunes on your computer and click on iTunes store on the left side bar. Click on Account under Quick Links on the right. You will have to enter your password and then you can access your purchase history on the next screen that you will come to.
But how you fix the problem from there is beyond my knowledge.
It could be an issue with your credit card as well. Read this.

  • IPhone 5 wifi range issues

    Hi all,
Not sure if anyone else has had this problem.
I'm sitting at home in my living room, iPad 3 and iPhone 5 next to me. The iPad 3 is connected to wifi and never drops its connection, whereas the iPhone 5 takes a few minutes to connect and sometimes it doesn't connect at all.
I get my wife's iphone 4 and, like the iPad 3, it remains connected, much to my embarrassment as I brandish my flashy new iphone 5, but cannot connect to Internet.
Apple appear to have gone backwards. Yes it's thin and all that bollocks, but what is the point if it can't even connect to my wifi. Does anyone else have similar issues?
All devices have been updated to ios 6.0.1. I'm thinking of asking for a replacement I'm so unhappy with it.
The battery life is also garbage but that's another matter.
Thank god for my iPad otherwise I'd have lot alot of faith in this great company.

A search of the forums would have answered that silly question.
Power cycle the router and see if that resolves your issues.

  • E4200 range issues

    Hi,
I can lots of posts here on the same subject of E4200 range issues but no fix.
I have purchased a E4200 as a replacement to my eight year old WRT54G that went pop last week.  Since installing I have a noticeable degradation in range in comparison to the old unit.  I have tried everything I have read here, upgraded firmware, moved the unit to the middle of the house, and frankly my opinion on the unit so far is that it is no good to me if it can't do the basics that I require ie reach my kitchen or bathroom - a matter of <4m away.  Any ideas, suggestions would be appreciated before I send it back?
Failing this any tips on a good router to replace this unit with, Linksys or non-Linksys?
    Mark Ferris

Ferris, your problem may simply stem from being on the same channel as your neighbors.  I'm pasting a link to a program called "IInsider".  From this from your laptop (and it's safe, so hit yes for the UAC prompt if you're running Windows) and it will list all the wireless networks it detects, what channels they are using, and other information (which is unnecessary for purposes of this post).  It will also, of course, list your own network.  The graph in the lower portion of the screen will also indicate the strength of the detected networks.  If it's really congested, choose a channel away from the strongest networks.
To change the channel on your E4200, go to the web interface, which is probably 192.168.1.1, click the "Wireless" tab.  The options you want are under "Basic Wireless Settings", which should be the page that appears after clicking the "Wireless" tab mentioned above.
Don't choose 1 channel away; if possible, choose at least two channels away.  If you're lucky, perhaps ALL your neighbors are using their default channels, in which case, choose a channel as far away from them as possible.
In case 192.168.1.1 is not the address of your router, in Windows, hit the Windows orb in the lower left-hand corner in Windows, which used to be called the "Start" button (and is still referred to as such).  Type "cmd" (without the quotes) <ENTER> to get a command prompt.  Type "ipconfig" (without the quotes) <ENTER>.  The top section, called "Ehternet Adapter Local Area Connection" has a listing called "Default Gateway Adapter" and an ip address for that listing.  THAT is the number to get to the web interface of your router.
    Hope this helps!

  • I'm having issues with my Time Capsule Generation 3. The wifi range no longer extends past 30 or so feet and it happened very suddenly. Any ideas?

My Time Capsule Gen 3 which I have had for around 5 years and had been working like a champ for that time suddenly won't extend the wifi range past 25 to 30 feet. It happened quite suddenly and is wreaking havoc in the house. Any ideas on what the problem could be and any thoughts on quick and affordable solutions?

5 years is well and truly past the lifespan of modern domestic electronics that does 24/7 operation.
    SImply replace it.
You can get a Gen5 AE second hand dirt cheap now.. around $50. and they have much better wireless than earlier gen TC.
Otherwise just get another new TC.

  • Laptop WiFi connection issue (range)

It must be my 3rd question on HP forum on the same topic. My laptop wifi range decreases day by day. Its a hardware issue they said. The issue started 8 months ago, and my Laptop was there at a HP service centre for about 3 months (laptop is covered under warranty). It is a terrible experience for me going on. They never fixed it -_-
1 - for the first time they inserted an unsupported wifi card (it was a mistake they said) -_-
2 - repeated the same for total of 3 time >_<
3 - Inserted another one, (diff model) and it was little better with the range.
4 - Now the range is decreasing day by day -_-
5 - connection prob : Eventhough it could see the wifi n/w it refuses to connect at a longer range (>15m)
6 - now a days it feels like they are avoiding me -_-
done with this laptop -_- and such a waste of time hopping for the best >_<

  • Is there a fix for the wifi connectivity issue after ios6 update?

Is there a fix for the wifi connectivity issue after ios6 update?
Cannot connect to any wifi since update to 6.0.1
How do I get update to 6.0.2?
    Will that even help?

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • IOS 6.1.3 hav'nt fix wifi greyed issue

i just restore my iphone 4s with the latest ios 6.1.3 but still can't fix the wifi greyed out issue .... why Apple how long should we have to wait ? PLZZZZZZ do something i fed up with my phone .... from ios 5.1.1 i got this issue still not fix in 6.1.3 .... why r u playing with us

    Lawrence,
My 4 and 3G never suffered the WiFi disabled issue with any version of iOS they ran (I didn't install 6.x on my 4 yet) and I have yet to see it mentioned about any device older than the 4S, which for the record was released 10/7/2011 (a year, 5 months and 13 days) ago
As regards the WiFi chip overheating, I agree that is possible. Said device uses a BCM4330 for WiFi and BT, vs BCM4329 in the 4. A little searching reveals whilst the 4330 is in use in other non Apple devices, there doesn't seem to be any report of the chip overheating, though there may be other factors in the design and / or the processing load that iOS 6 places upon it that contribute to it doing so.
I doubt the replacement 4S handsets Apple is handing out are in any way different hardware-wise (posts suggest they're just handing out 5.1.1'd 4Ss) so with the same hardware/software combo it's probably just going to happen again when people update to 6. Is it right to say nothing on it and keep selling them?

  • IPod 5th Gen doesn't find any WiFi signals after battery was dead for two days.

I recently bought an ipod 5th generation, it only has the selfie camera (no back camera).
My battery then ran out, and my iPod was dead for two days.
My iPod charging cable wasn't working, so i went out to buy a new one.
After charging it with the new cable, it would not connect to the internet.
My brother has a 4th generation ipod and his picks up and connects to the wifi signal we have here at home, but mine won't even pick up the signal, or any wifi signals period.
I looked around here on the Apple Support but found nothing that helped, I already reset my network settings.
Is there any way to fix this?

    If not this
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    Then
Does the iOS device connect to other networks? If yes that tend to indicate a problem with your network.
Does the iOS device see the network?
    Any error messages?
    Do other devices now connect?
Did the iOS device connect before?
Try the following to rule out a software problem:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
    - Wi-Fi: Unable to connect to an 802.11n Wi-Fi network
    - iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem and it does not connect to any networks make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Pearson put out a tech note on this today - the new versions of Java are what's causing the problem. If you can use Time Machine to rollback java prior to a java 7 or 1.6.0_37 version that will get you going again. I've been searching for hours for a place to download the older version but it seems Apple's site and Oracle all only have the latest release.
