You plug it in to iTunes and then click on the restore option.

So when it was given to me, I had it restored and updated via iTunes to iOS 5.1. I bought a micro-sim and inserted it on the sim tray. iTunes was able to detect the SIM card number and there was NO MESSAGE like the sim card is not supported whatsoever which can be usually seen in unsupported simcard. I thought everything went smoothly. But when I tried to set-up the phone, the SLIDE TO UNLOCK button is unresponsive. It doesn't work so I was stuck there and my iPhone cannot be accessed because of that. What shall I do? I have tried doing the hard reset several times, it still didn't work. I have tried restoring my iPhone three times but the slide to unlock is still unresponsive. I think the iPhone was able to detect my carrier simcard since it shows on the top corner the name of my carrier, mobile signal and 3g network. Now I am wondering as to why the slide to unlock button is unresponsive? Was it because of my iPhone LCD or was it because the iPhone is locked? Please help.

according to some blogs, if the sim card you are using is unsupported, iTunes will show you a message that the sim card you are using is unsupported. But when i opened itunes, I didn't see that message. Instead, it was able to detect my sim card number. So I guess, the simcard is supported. It isn't the original sim, though. Then the phone was able to detect the mobile carrier, mobile and 3g signals. So iam wondering whether my phone is locked or was it a hardware problem?

You cannot delete the iCloud account that is signed on to Find My iPhone unless you know the password. This is called the Activation Lock:
ACTIVATION LOCK
It is an anti-theft security measure that is a part of iOS 7. You can only get around this by following the steps in this support article:
Find My iPhone Activation Lock: Removing a device from a previous owner’s account
Contact your friend. This is the only way around the lock.

From what you describe it sounds like the phone is in recovery mode. Try connecting the phone to the wall charger that it came with, and perform a reset then connect it to iTunes again and try:
Reset
You should reset your device as a last resort and only if you can't restart it.
To reset, press and hold both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo.

Expanding on what Tim said to make sure it's clear, only the carrier to which the iPhone is locked can authorize unlocking. If Optus is the original carrier, as would seem to be the case, O2 would not be able to unlock it. Only Optus can authorize the unlock, so you'll need to contact them. They say, though, that only the account holder can apply for unlocking, so you might not be able to get it unlocked and will have to work through the person from whom you bought the iPhone.

Wrong. accordomg to MacRumors, all 5C Verizon iPhone are sold unlocked and will work on AT&T and T-mobile as well.

her contacts are connected directly with the Google Server so as long as they are saved to her Gmail account she should be 100% fine.. the only contacts she may lose are the ones that she added directly onto the phone and did not sync to her Gmail account.. so you should just double check with her on that

I can understand your situation, do the following things first.
1. File a Police Report

File a report with the police in the city where the phone was stolen. This may or may not directly lead to the recovery of your phone, but having documentation of the theft may help in dealing with cell phone and insurance companies and, if you can get data about the location of your phone, having the police report on file may be necessary for getting the police to help you recover it.
2. Call Your Cell Phone Company
Making this the second step in the process. Some cell phone company representatives may be more inclined to take action when you've got a police report, others may act right away without one. Calling your cell phone company to report the theft and have the account tied to the phone suspended or canceled will help ensure that you're not stuck paying for charges incurred by the thief. Try tracking the phone first, though, since cancelled service could make tracking it hard.
3. If you have Setup iCloud on your iPhone
Login to https://www.icloud.com/ with the same Apple Id & password that you have configured on your lost iPhone and see if you can find all your Contacts there ( you will only find the contacts on iCloud if you have setup iCloud Account on your iPhone and had taken a backup on iCloud before)
On the same page you can also track the location of your iPhone if you have Find My iPhone Enabled on your iPhone earlier, and if your iPhone is connected to any Internet connection (Wifi/Cellular) you can see the last location and inform the same to the Cops.

U should call ATT&T and tell them that ur iPhone was stolen and u need to cancel or block your stolen iPhone account so they cannot use it and transfer the same number to a new iPhone ( or other phone)..

Uploading from iPhone - need help

When I attempt to upload a photo from my iPhone to my Web Gallery, I get the following error message on the iPhone:
"None of your .Mac accounts have been configured for posting from mobile devices. You must first enable this feature on the .Mac website"
Any idea how I "enable this feature" as I can't seem to find it anywhere on my .Mac homepage or account info, etc.

So i got my iphone 3gs stollen today, it has no sim card but i have many apps that can connect to wifi, such as twitter, facebook, youtube, live profile,gamecenter, also think i was logged in google but didnt sign up for gmail. I told my buddy to check if i was online on live profile and it said i was available (live profile says your available if your connected to wifi). so i told my buddy to message me on live profile and the guy displayed the message. any help on how i can track my iphone or his ip address down from any of those apps. need help asap thanks.

I'm very sorry to hear that. The best way is to use the MobileMe "Find my phone" feature. However, this only works if you set up your phone with a free MobileMe account. If you did, then you can display your phone's location on a map pretty accurately.

Bought a blocked iphone need help please?

I bought a iphone 4 off gum tree and when I went to pick up the phone was dead, I took it home and charged it only to find out that the iphone is blocked and has a 4 digit pin that I can't unlock. How can I over come this issue and how much would it cost. This means you have 4Gb of photos in your trash.
Go to Photos - recently deleted (an option in the same menu as "camera roll" and "photo stream") and finally delete the photos.
The 4Gb of space will then be cleared.

Try Reseting your decive, check your settings or manually restore your iphone bu putting it in DFU mode and connecting it to iTunes there are many youtube videos on how to do this I hope it works and wish you good luck with it. If It doest call apple care.
