Waste of money for Apple box
My dad bought a TV and he got an apple tv box installed internally and was told his mac would work. (10.5)
So today I spend my whole day trying to get it to work with 3 computers. (my dads 10.5 desktop) (my snow leopard laptop 1.6.8) (mountain lion laptop 10.7.5)
Guides all say to go to display preferences and click the airplay mirroring button.
Why is it not there?
We bought the box from an apple store and they said it would work with 10.5 and above.
Any ideas?

Smiggle04, for the ones with 10.6 or later a third party app called air parrot will give you a similar function to mirror.
If an apple store advised you a macwith 10.5 can mirror you should complain to the manager, that is quite wrong.
What do you mean that he got an apple TV installed internally, are you sure as apple TV is a plug in device?
Airparrot has a free trial so give it a look.

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now. They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.

Have I wasted my money? Apple TV set up nightmare
I'm hoping that I've just been on the wrong track and someone can steer me the right direction!
I bought aTV a few months ago specifically for use in my classroom to mirror my ipad. Got home from store, opened box, no HDMI cable, cannot use without HDMI cable, back to store.
Go to school. No HDMI input into screen. Buy converter (HDMI to VGA) cord. Wait for it to arrive. Wont work, I think it needs a power source.
Buy a converter box, with extra associated cords. Wrong one. Buy another box, YAY, its the right one months later.
Connect up apple tv to board. Cannot set up due to proxy settings. Take it home again, set it up through home wifi on tv - works fine.
Back to school, wont work because it needs a user profile. Back home again.
Research how to configure profiles. User profile needs configurator. Configurator needs OS X upgrade. Slow net means there's a good 6 hours for that. Upgrade installed ... finally.
A few days later configurator downloaded. Plug atv in to imac at home via micro USB cable (yes its plugged in) to set up user profile according to these instructions http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5437?viewlocale=en_US
Apple TV not recognised by configurator or itunes - probably due to not being connected to wifi.
imac with configurator is in one room, TV and wifi in another. My latest frustrating block in the road is - How do I connect to the wifi with the atv, wont it need to be plugged into the TV via HDMI? I need it to be able to have it plugged into the imac in the next room to configure it. The wifi will cut out if unplugged. The imac has no HDMI input socket.
Do I really need to pull my office apart and drag my imac out to the living room so it can remain plugged in to power after connecting to wifi???? Please tell me I have something upside down and back-to-front!!!
Has anyone else had a nightmare similar to this one? I've always been a big apple supporter ... BUT ...A little more information:
"Apple TV works ONLY with HDTVs with HDMI cable, not included." Thanks for the info - I have it working with the smart board via a convertor box (HDMI to VGA), so please dont be condescending by telling me thats where I'm going wrong.
The problem is I can only get it working if I have both the ipad and the ATV connected to my iphone hotspot. I do not want this to be a permanent method of connection.
"I thought only guys didn't read directions. And Apple TV came with simple ones." Yes I do realise that it should be a basic set up process in a normal household situation. I am looking for help with a different set up process. Thanks for the 'helpful' comment though.
"There is no requirement to load a profile on the ATV." - If I want to configure it to connect through the department proxy server there apparently is, so the question is how? To find troubleshooting help on the net for that process is near impossible.
And as for plugging it straight into the ethernet - that wont help because the ipad will be connected via wifi and they are different networks so that wont work. The only way is for the apple to connect via wifi through proxy OR for me to buy another routing device such as airport. This would just be another added inconvenience though, especially when I'm changing classrooms every lesson. -
Why do we pay so much money for Apple but no device can stand a fall? Even with a case.
I feel that apple should make better products that look good and is durable. That's crazy how we all spend over $200 on a product and the moment you may accidentally drop your device, the whole thing shatters.
I had put a otter box on my device and, still my brand new iPod is cracked and ugly.
Now we invest in these products and when accident happens we are asked to pay half of what was already paid to just get a screen replacement. That is crazy.
Apple may have "nice" customer support but creating devices that are not accident proof and then charge the customers two times more than what should be the price. I am a college student and in my business class the one thing my professor drills in our heads is. CUSTOMERS ARE PRIORITY!
Don't get me wrong I love all of apple products but i am sick of this problem and it seems no one wants to put the customer first.Does brand new mean that you have owned it less than three months? If you bought your iPod with a credit card, check with your card company. Some cards provide Purchase Protection insurance which will replace or repair any item lost, stolen or damaged within 90 days of purchase.

I have found that since I "upgraded" to Mavericks, many pieces of audio hardware that was compatable with snow leopard is not compatable with mavericks. these machines are supposed to be the best for multi-media, now, without any warning, Mac has really messed this up. What are they thinking. I just converted from PC. Was it a $3000 mistake. MAC....Get BUsy, It can't be that hard to create some drivers that are compatable with common and popular pieces of hardware needed to do the projects I bought this thing for!!!!
similar problem here. running the latest 13 inch mbpr and ableton live software, mavericks obvsly.
experiencing crashes only with external soundcards attached. it happened with a usb interface (NI audio 2 dj) and with a echo audiofire 2 (firewire through thunderbold adapt.)
keyboard and trackpad got unresponsive after the crash with the usb interface as they run on the usb buss I suppose.
This is interesting: If i m running usb or firewire interfaces plugged in to my thunderbold display at home - i get 0 problems. it just works 100%
so what does this tell us? is the hardware of the macbook defective?
but why does the FW interface crash then when attached to the computer directly and not if attached to the display?
this is extremely frustrating. basically my job is using this machine on stage and i cant use it. i m back to my 2007 macbook now running 10.6, thinking about getting a USED machine which was before mavericks and haswell - think these are the issues and what i would like to know:

Windows 8.1 was a waste of money for me.
Windows 8.1 it's working as hell for me. My laptop it's an i7 @ 2.2 with 16GB DDR3 and a 4GB Nvidia Geforce 750m.
First of all al the drivers are properly instaled. I use internet via an Enthernet cable, the connection keeps discoenecting every 2 hours. When i try to fix the connection windows sais there is no problem, i try to desable the enthernet card, process which
take around 10 minites, nothing happens, i have to restart the laptop process which takes at least another 15 minutes i can have the connection back for 2 hours.
I've reinstalled the drivers, i tried to update the drivers, i've used another computer on this connection without a problem. It;s clearly a windows 8.1 problem as if unplug/plug the cable the icon it remains the same.
I'm mostly sure there is no posibility to fix this error, but maybe maybe someone has a better idea than to uninstall windows 8.1.
I will not even start to complain about the application which are slower than ones on a 90's cellphone.If your PC not comes with Windows 8.1 maybe this issue will happen

First priority, if this PC OEM please find update driver at Manufactured site, most of driver update already tested
If this PC self build, please find driver LAN at Mainboard site or LAN manufactured it self

You can't. It is locked to the previous owner's account.
Have the previous owner remove the iPhone from their account or get your money back.

my ipod touch 2gn wont turn on after being charged in a ipod dock...it's been 3 weeks now and i've tried everything and noting has worked! Apple, you better expect paying for this because i am not wasting my money again!

Got the phone as a PAYG and use with vodaphone, but got it direct from Apple.

You sound like an Apple support guy who hasn't been able to answer my questions.
To respond to some of the points you made,
- I did not ignore Ocean20's suggestion. If you has read my post, you would have known that I took my phone to the apple service centre where they tried this restore on THEIR machines. I am assuming that Apple guys know how not to block iTunes. So I actually do not understand your point about me trying the hosts file changes on my machine. Do you not believe that apple tested this issue with the correct settings?
- you also give a flawed logic of why the issue is a hardware issue. You mentioned that If I thought that the issue was with the software, i should try a restore and getting it to work. The problem is that my error (23), and many others comes up when the restore fails. And you would be astonished to know that not all errors are hardware errors. Sometimes even software errors prevent restores. Funnily enough Apple itself mention that 'in rare cases, error 23 could be hardware related'.
- all Apple has done so far is replicate the issue. I don not know how anyone can conclude that the issue is a hardware issue.
And by the way, I am not certain that this is a software bug. Again if you read my Posts, you will notice I only want a confirmation,/proof that the issue is hardware related as they mention..

I purchased an iPhone5 at an unclaimed items police auction yesterday, but after I charged it and turned it on, it is asking me for the passcode which unfortunately I was not supplied with. Is there a way to get around the code or have I wasted my money?
If the Phone is Running iOS 7... then it has Activation Lock Enabled.

I spend good money for my iPhone i have the iPhone 5 with the new charger slot which is smaller. I have been through at least 3 charging cords and this is not acceptable to me. i never had a problem with this on my older phone. apple needs to correct this and reimburse me for this cord.

How come although iPads are getting more powerful, the iOS apps from apple are so mediocre and just not that great? We spend all this money for the latest ipad and all we get is these $5 video and music apps from apple. Why create the iOS platform and only offer so so apps like IMovie and GarageBand ? While other developers are offering much better apps like pinnacle studio for video, Cubasis and Auria for music production, apple has not showed much growth in terms of innovation. While there's nothing wrong with making an app like GarageBand where "anyone " can make a song, how about something for real musicians or an app not so basic as it get for video editing? After spending 0ver $700 on an ipad I'd be willing to spend more than $5 for a better video or audio app.
First, try a system reset although I can't give you any confidence. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.
