Wasting screen space in German Lightroom 2

Hello,
I've compared Lightroom 1.3 and 2.0 both in German and it seems that the new German version takes a *lot* more screen space for its right panel in the develop module to show completely. In the normal view it's okay, but in the crop and repair tool views, in its initial width, the right scrollbar isn't even visible! I need to increase the panel width approx. by the half to see it completely. In the crop view, it takes the most space. And I always would need to enlarge it to see the lock aspect ratio button... Then the resizer grip seems to be only a single pixel wide so it's a pain to resize the panel!
This is actually not an acceptable situation. I have a 17" TFT monitor with 1280x1024 resolution, but Lightroom 2.0 just doesn't fit into it. The older 1.3 does very well, so right now, here in Germany, 1.3 is by far the better version to use for most. Unregarded of all the new features you've put into it. Maybe a little bit of testing before the release would have spot the bug at Adobe. Hoping for a better 2.0.1 very soon.

Agreed. It also would have been smart, if they'd allowed longer text to
wrap onto the next line.
I suspect the reason for things like this happening is, that the
translator didn't or couldn't check how the interface was being affected.
By the way, I poked around in the LR localisation files, but couldn't
find those text strings anywhere - sorry.

When a plug in is accessed, about 10% of the screen space at the top is wasted with a useless icon. The designers of plugins do not expect this. As a result, on a intel Macbook, the bottom of a lot of plug ins cannot be "reached" since Garageband wastes a bunch of space at the top. Could you PLEEEZE remove that wasted space? You're going to need to be more specific, as I'm not quite sure I understand what you're talking about.
If you're referring to copying from an external hard drive or flash drive, and you want to actually move files rather than copy them, you can hold down the option key to force it to do a "move" rather than a "copy." This is not new behavior, though... the Mac OS has worked this way as long as I can recall (and I've been using it since 1984).
If you're having a problem with trying to move files from one place to another on a single drive causing them to be copied instead, that is likely because of some permissions issue preventing you from actually being able to move them.

How can I move/combine toolbars on the same line to gain more screen space ??

In IE you can lock or unlock toolbars and grag them and move to another line to gain more screen space & still have all you need up there.

You can only combine the content of several toolbars on one toolbar if the toolbars support that feature. If that is possible then you can do that via the View > Toolbars > Customize window or via the options of that toolbar (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions).

Toolbars in the report view take a lot of the screen space as each button takes a line

I created a report which looks fine in the BIDs but as soon as I upload it to the Report server and open it with the IE the toolbars take much of the screen space as each button (Export, Refresh and save) take a line. how can I change the configuration so
that all buttons will appear in one line (or will not appear at all)?
I'm sure it is something to configure in the server side as in whichever IE I open the report, from different computers, I always get it the same

I would ask the following questions to verify the issue:
1. Does the issue happen on all the reports?
2. Does the issue persist if you open it in the other web browsers?
2. What’s the version of your Reporting Service and Internet Explorer?
Please post the image of the issue, so we can understand the problem in more details.
You can use &rc:Toolbar=false parameter to hide the toolbar in the Report Server.

I saturated all the available iPad (3rd. generation) screen space (home screens or desktop space) with apps, and the apps that got bumped out of the last screen, mysteriously disappeared? Where are those missing quick lauch app icons?

Running my 3rd generation iPad on iOS 7.0.4, I saturated all the available iPad screen space (which would be the 15 home screens or desktop worth of space) with apps, and the apps that got bumped out of the last screen space mysteriously disappeared. Where are those missing quick lauch app icons now? The apps are still installed and can be searched/accessed through the finder, but they no longer have a user friendly access. How can I solve this problem?

As Rob has pointed out there is no maximum resolution that LR supports, but performance decreases as resolution increases. I'm using an i7-860 quad core system with a 1920 x1080 (2.1 Megapixel) monitor and LR runs well. A 3200 x1800 (5.8 Megapixel) monitor will require ~2.75 x more processing to render the real-time loupe image in the Develop module. Some people have reported sluggish screen updating when making adjustments in the Develop module with even lower resolution monitors such as 2560x1440. Here's a post that discusses the issue:

Issues Missing files & duplicate files and not enough screen space

Hello everyone,
I'm using a 1.67 Ghz 15 in tibook with 1 gig of ram
I had issue yesterday, missing files, I was in the rating/keywords panel scrolling through my images, one was a bit soft so I deleted it using the command delete combo. Somehow all of the images in the project disappeared. They hadn't been moved to the trash, I looked, and looked and looked, I couldn't find them using a search, and it should have been easy, they were the first images that had been imported into Aperture.
So since I had copied the 70 files to my hardrive first I re-imported them. Couldn't see those either.
Deleted the project and re-imported again, worked fine, and I couldn't reproduce the problem.
When I went to export five images, (all the images had been re-named with a sequential suffix, Smith_01, Smith_02, Smith_03...), to my desktop so I could copy to our server, I remembered that I needed to update a caption on one image. (Could that caption box be any smaller?), anyway I exported again, I meant to only export the individual image but exported all five again. Instead of telling me there were duplicate files on the desktop it increased the sequential number of each duplicate file by 1. So now instead of one file of Smith_01, Smith _08, Smith 33, etc, I have the original and the Smith_01 file now has a matching image slugged Smith_02 on the desktop as well, along with all the others that had a match with a suffix one digit higher. And of course back in the project there is a Smith_02 that is different..
If I were to copy different files with the same name to other folders or our archive server one of those images could be easily discarded or copied over by the file with the duplicate name.
And lastly, when importing I tried to rename my files and add a generic caption, I imported the same images a few times, the first time I couldn't scroll down to see the caption box and metadata, the second time I could see the scroll and add the metadata below. The third time I couldn't scroll down. Very Wierd!
And lastly, is there any way to show just the adjustments or just the metadata boxes on the Adjustments & Filters layout? The boxes are so small already I'd like to be able to at least use the whole side of the screen for one box. I'd really like to be able to put them where I want them. The adjustment HUD works this way on a full screen but I want to get rid of the strip of thumbnails in the full screen and just have the HUD and the image, nothing else.
Any insights would be great.

I think they were in the trash - as far as I know search does not work within the trash itself.
Nope not in the trash, that's the first place I looked, I also found that deleting a project is the fastest way to export the masters. Just pull them out of the trash can
They should have been moved to the trash folder, inside an Aperture directory, and then from there inside of a folder with the name of the project the image was in.
Alternatley (and I'm not sure how this migh thave happened) they may have been marked as "rejected". All views have a default search >>criteria that starts with "unrated or higher" but rejected photos are lower than this and are not seen. By default there is a smart folder at the >>top of your library that shows Unrated pictures, you might check to see if they are there.
I'll double check the shortcut for rejects, this is the only plausible explanation, but it doesn't explain why the second import of images couldn't be found either.

Yes, Aperure will refuse to overwrite any file ever - and will always add those other numbers if it encounters a file with the same name as the one it is trying to generate!
I agree that this is a good thing, but there should be an alert of some kind if you have a duplicate. The finder certainly tells you if you are trying to copy a duplicate file to the same location. Adding an increment of one to the sequential suffix without an alert is very poor planning. On deadline trying to get files into our system I could have easily overlooked the duplicates and overwritten other files with the same name.
The only way to work around that is either to delete all files from the directory before you export from Aperture, or to export to an empty directory and copy them over yourself.
The work around is easily figured out, but like some other things I shouldn't have to work around it.

Well, another option there would be to drag the divider between the metadata and the adjustments all the way up (as much as you can >>anyway, the histogram will still be visible).
That would be wonderful, but I'm on a 15 in ti book and there isn't enough space to do that. The divider show up but you can't move it. Ideally you should be able to just view the metadata or just the adjustments if you so choose. Binding them together is stupid, if I'm making adjustments, I don't care what is happening in the metadata screen and when I'm adding captions and changing metadata I don't need to see the adjustments screen. Give me a metadata template like the IPTC screen in Photomechanic that I can save and apply and put it on the screen where I want it.
Then to see adjustments just use the adjustment HUD - key "H" to bring up or dismiss. It will stay where you put it when you make it go >>away and come back and you can have it whereever you like on the screen unlike the inspector.
I'd love to do that but it can't be done on a 15 in laptop screen.
For maximum space value, you could arrange the Adjustments HUD to exactly overlay the space where the Inspector is - then you can press >>"I" to make the inspector come and go, and "H" for the Adjustments Hud all in the same space.
For maximum space on adjustments I'm using the full screen with the HUD. At least I can then move the HUD where I want it to be, not anchored on the right side.
In general look over the keyboard shortcuts as there are a lot of keys to make panels come up and go away quickly (one key, no modifiers) >>which really helps to maximize use of screen space.
I'm still learning them and I'm sure that will help, but the adjustments panel and the metadata panel have to be changed to make it more usable on a laptop in my opinion. Maybe it's fine on a large monitor, I wouldn't know as I can't load it on my G5 desktop without a hack. And so far I'd rather use Photomechanic for sorting and captioning it's much much faster for newspaper work.

Wasted vertical space

Upgrade from 3.6 to 6x vanished toolbar and wasted top line with name of current page. HELP and right-click brought back toolbar.
Highlighted Tab shows current page. Allow the size/exit icons to be on same line as toolbar (or other user choice) and quit wasting top space. "Less is more."

You only get the tab bar in the title bar if the Firefox window is maximized.
So if you can't maximize the Firefox window then you have to accept that.
There is probably a Stylish script that allows to have the Tab bar in the title bar, so you can do a search for that.

Using Folders to Free-Up Screen Space

Packing tracks regions to a folder still leaves the tracks, tking up screen space. I can then choose to Hide these but is there a way to do this automatically when packing folders?

Hi - thanks for replying. I want to free up real estate as you put it but with the faciity to bring them back with one click to make adjustents and then toggle them back again.
This is easy in Cubase e.g. condense all percussion tracks or drums say, into a folder. This frees up work space and adds the folder in the mixer window for rough mixing. If one instrument needs editing you just unpack the folder with one click, make teh adjustments and then toggle the folder back again.
It seems in Logic I have to pack the folder, then delete or hide the tracks individually. Then if I want to bring them back to edit,unpacking will recreate the tracks so I have to repeat the process - long-winded.
I'm new to Logic - perhaps the Groups facility may offer what I want?

Why are the web pages of SharePoint 2013 so devoid of colour and distinct boundaries and leave screen space unutilized

This was a comment from my business users who have worked with various versions of SharePoint. I understand SP 2013 has put in logic to make the web pages to be compatible with a wider set of browsers and screen form factors. Nevertheless, the issues raised
by my business users are valid.
Comparing a basic web part page of SP 2013 with SP 2007 and 2010, their feedback was:
SP 2013 pages do not have clear boundaries
SP 2013 pages are generally devoid of colour. This is makes it harder to visually distinguish links from ordinary text.
SP 2013 pages appear to leave large swathes of screen space underutilized.

Ive got too many apps and not enough screen space

Hi
Ive got a lot of apps on my iphone and most of them I dont want to give up. Ive managed to fill up all 11 pages of screen space on my iphone.
Am I limited to only 11 pages of screen space?? Is there any way to increase it so that all my apps can be displayed?
I dont want to upgrade to iphone 4 OS.

Create blank screen space between two ALV grids

I want to create some blank screen space between the two ALV grids I have on the screen. Can someone tell me how to do this?

You don't have link the two containers.
I guess you have a grid and tree control that you want to display. So, use a different container for each of these controls, so that they appear differently.
If you don't want space in between them, you can have one container and split that into and display the tree and grid in each of the split portions.
The advantage with this will be you can resize the tree/grids using the vertical line that separates them.

Firefox 13.0.1 shows my menu bar split over two lines, wasting a lot of screen space. Also, my bookmarks drop-down menu in the bookmarks toolbar is now gone,

Website title and the menu bar used to be on the same top line (I think) - or maybe the website title didn't show on the top line because it was already showing on the tab bar. But now, with Firefox 13.0.1, I have five lines of stuff (from the top, they are: website title; menu bar (File, Edit, etc.); Tabs line; Navigation toolbar/line; bookmarks toolbar) before I get to my actual webpage screen. It used to be four lines, which was tolerable.
Also, the bookmarks drop-down has disappeared from the bookmarks toolbar - I used to have it on the far right of the bookmarks toolbar.

Getting rid of the menu toolbar, the tabs returned to the top and the bookmarks drop-down returned to the right-side of the bookmarks toolbar. I don't know how I had changed the settings - possibly my toddler fiddling with the keyboard..
