Watch DVR recordings while not connected to FIOS?

I have a vacation home, and since I have 200 hours of recordings at my primary residence, I thought it would be nice to bring my DVR/Receiver with me and watch the recording there. Unfortunately, I do not have FIOS at my vacation home (not available).
Can this be done? I tried it once, and when I plugged in the unit, it seemed to keep searching for a connection, and would not just let me go to my recordings.
Anybody successfully do this?

Hmmmmm, clever. That has my wheels turning. I do have 115V power supply in my truck, and I have a long enough coaxial cable to run from the house to my truck, and "boot up" the unit in my truck. If I then disconnect the cable and leave it plugged in for the trip, it might stay "live" for the trip.
But once I get to my other house, I don't see any way of switching to the local power supply without interruption. I wonder if it could be unplugged for say 30 seconds, and not have to go through the whole reboot process if I get it plugged in quick enough.

This is really ashame FIOS is set up like this. Both of my old Direct TV and Dish Network receivers would both allow me to watch recordings even if it wasn't plugged into the service.

(I have the use of a local admin account), and I want to help a user reset their password who has logged in the PC and had their credentials cached, but forgot this password.
In Local Admin Account :
When I go to Control Panel, users, users, manager user ; I cannot see any users in this window except the local admin account, and, so I cannot reset a user password this way.
When I go to lusrmgr.msc, then users ; the local admin account will display only.
If I go to command prompt and type "net user", this will not display any users who have logged in to the computer, and so I cannot use "net user" to reset a password.
I don't want to use any disks, 3rd party programs, or create a VPN connection to the domain. I just want to help a user who calls in and forgets their password.

I know this is an old thread but I'm trying to better understand how I could change the domain password while not on the network. What I'm getting from your post is that you:
1. Create a local user account (not a domain user)
2. Login with that local user account
3. Connect to the VPN while logged in as a local user
4. Log out of the local account and login with the domain credentials
Now, my question is based on the assumption that the password created on the local account is the same password that one will use to login to the domain account? Also, is the local user account the same as the domain account?

ITunes will only display special characters/foreign languages when it is started while not connected to the internet

This problem started right after upgrading to iTunes 10.5.
I opened iTunes and all of the songs with special characters, japanese text, etc. showed up as boxes (the fallback unicode rectangle or whatever the proper name is). The result is that I have a ton of songs that just look like this - [][][][][][][][]
The only thing I have found to fix it is if I disconnect the internet, restart the computer, open itunes and then I can reconnect the internet. When I open itunes while not online, the song titles all go back to normal.
I can't figure out why being online makes any difference. Yes, I have the correct language packs installed and the characters display correctly in all programs besides itunes.

I don't have the bit-rot or router issue, but I'm frequently experiencing dropped connections with my ISP (a satellite service). Disabling / reabling the Ethernet port, or closing my laptop lid for a few seconds, usually fixes the problem, abiet temporarily.
I've noticed during these dropped connections that over 90% of the time, the ethernet port continues to show as active and with a valid IP. The problem seems to have something to do with OS X requesting a new IP when it already has one. The longer I'm online, the more frequently this happens.
I've installed Apples Broadband Tuner, and am going through my providers Web proxy.
However, when I VPN into work with the companies PC laptop, the connection seldom drops and is likely due to VPN server overload, which leads me to believe this is an OS X thing.

BTW, I removed my router because, even though the setting were correct and both laptops where getting an IP, the MAC dropped more frequently, and I had a much harder time getting a VPN connection on the PC.

Transfer while not connected to wifi

I often download podcasts to my ipad while connected to wifi, I'd like to transfer those podcasts to my itunes when I'm not connected to wifi but itunes doesn't seem to let me. Is there a step I'm missing?

If you go under Manage Connections on your homescreen then go to Mobile Network, there should be a box for Data Services. If you put that to OFF, your internet data will cease but your phone calls and SMS capabilities should not be affected.

I found this quite useful to rearrange my shuffle playlist an than apply all changes at once. I was missing this feature in iTunes 7.x and am still missing it in 7.0.2 with my new 2nd gen. Shuffle. Has this feature been disabled?

Nano problems // Firewire error displayed (While not connected),...

Here's a question for anyone that knows about this:
iPod Nano 2gb, arrived Monday. It's started having hiccups today. The firewire error message (Cannot connect to firewire, use USB) is displayed intermittently, and the iPod will not go into sleep mode intermittently. I've tried the 5R process, to no avail. I submitted a support repair ticket, but I'd like to know what else I can do in the meantime (Besides back-up the iPod)

took me days to figure out how to fix it... if you have a mac i dont know how to fix but if you have Windows click on all programs on the start menu then look up ipod then click on the update b4 the one that you installed and it should give you and option to restore ... as it will i will come back as factory bought it will have no songs on it so you have to re add your song which wont take long

How do I see my phone contacts while not connected...

I been backing my phone (Nokia N70) up with Nokia PC Suite 6.6 regularly. My phone has gone down and been sent away for repairs. I'm now using another phone (a Sony Ericsson) and I need to lookup and transfer some of my contact details across - even if this means entering each one my hand. But I can't access anything while my N70 is not plug in! If I use the Suite I can't see anything like 'view contacts'. And the folder that appears in Windows Explorer has no subfolders.
All I'm after is a text print out of my contacts! Can anyone help?
Or, put another way, what tool do I need to open the backup file; a file with extension nfb?

MacBook Air 2008 detects external monitor while not connected to one

When I put my MBA to sleep and wake it up, it detects and displays an external monitor. I checked the Display section in About this Mac, it shows that I'm connect to an external monitor when I'm not, and that I'm operating on Desktop 2. This is quite an issue due to a noticeable drop in performance and battery life. Has this happened to any one else? If so how did you fix it?

Allowing login while not connected

Hi,
This is a OS X client question, but I thought this forum reaches the right persons. I have a OpenLDAP and kerberos system that is used for authentication and I would like to make it possible to use them on OS X laptops without requiring any local accounts on the laptops.
All users do have local home directories which have to be created, but their uids, gids etc. are stored in the LDAP. Passwords are checked against the KDC.
A similar system works on linux laptops and is documented here:

Is this possible to accomplish on OS X?
I also have a question about FileVault. I'm assuming it doesn't encrypt your files with your password (otherwise changing your password would take ages), but instead generates a keyfile, which it decrypts with your password on login. So my question is, does it understand Kerberos, so that changing your password through Kerberos is communicated to FileVault?

2. How would someone access this function? By virtue of what privileges? From the web? From a SQL*Plus session (connected as who)? What would make it secure? Allowing anyone to "fish" for valid usernames by guessing session IDs is not secure.
3. When you refer to users "connected to apex", be aware that the username/session ID association (in the internal sessions table) indicates only that a named user authenticated to an application using the given session ID, not that anyone is currently "connected", that the user is actively using the application, that the user has not logged out, that the user has not closed the browser, etc. The duration of a "connection" in web applications is momentary. Conversely, the absence of a username/session ID association in the internal sessions table indicate that the named user did not previously authenticate to an application using the given session ID as the session may have been purged after the standard interval.

Deleting Playlist While Not Connected To PC / IToonz

Hello,
Can someone from Apple please explain to me as efficiently as possible how to remove playlists / songs from my IPod without being connected to a computer or IToonz?
If this is not possible (rhetorical question), can you please tell me if I am correct in assuming that Apple has time after time "accidently" forgotten to add this feature to it's operating system? Why is it that you have purposefully not included this feature?
Is this because you want to nurture and teach people to be dependant on ITunes / ITunes store?

Only speculating, but I suspect it has never been added because:
1) not that many users actually want it (or want other feature a lot more,
2) not having prevents morons from deleting stuff on the iPod and then complianing later that Apple lets them delete things, or
3) its actually a grand fascist conspiracy aimed just at you since, well, your life is just going to end if you actually have to take 30 seconds to sync the iPod and delete something.

The first gen. Shuffle allowed me to do this, and it would update later when connected, but my second gen playlist only appears when the Shuffle is connected to my MacBook, is it possible to change this?

IPad Finding wifi but not connecting

My iPad recognizes the available WiFi network, allows me to input my PW, but then merely rolls the spinning wheel while not connecting? So weird.
Has anyone experienced this, and what did you do to fix this issue?

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

Any solution to connect candy crush to Facebook? Seems after last update it stopped connecting.

I had this same problem. I changed my password, and then was unable connect candy crush to facebook. I didn't want to delete and reinstall the app, for fear of losing my progress (I continued to play while not connected and had advanced another 10 levels. Hard levels - lvl 480 to 490 lol). I tried every other "fix" that I could find posted on the internet. None worked. I ended up having to delete the app and reinstall it.I completely backed up my phone and transferred all my purcheses before I did so, but still lost my progress. Good news is, this fix worked, and I am again connected to facebook. Also, I only lost the progress that I had made SINCE I lost my facebook connection. It put me back to level 480. So, I can live with that

My HTC One m8 is not connecting to the mobile data network.

WiFi works, I can make phone calls, but I can't access internet at all while not connected to WiFi. yes, mobile data is on (but disconnected). I've tried LTE, CDMA, Global, and no available network mode works at all. Please help =(

Sorry for any trouble with your data. Let's look into this OK? Please turn on your mobile data and try again to access the internet. When accessing the internet, either Wifi or VZW data has to be turned on.
