Watch rented iTunes movies on apple tv 2

Is it possible to rent a movie via iTunes on the iPad and then watch on apple tv 2? The movie doesn't show up under rented movies on the apple tv and AirPlay mirroring won't work. Purchased movies sync to all devices, why not rented movies?

The limited number of rentals I've tried to use from my iPad via AirPlay have all worked, but I appreciate others have not found this.
Only making rentals on a computer will allow you to transfer them to another device.

  • IPhone restarting when watching Rented iTunes movies!

As the title of the thread says, my iPhone restarts whenever I try and watch Rented iTunes movies on it.
And it is just rented movies that cause the issue, if I rip a DVD and convert to iPhone friendly it plays all the way through quite happily. But with the rented ones, they play for about 7 mins before the iphone restarts.
Has anyone else had this problem?

have you taken any troubleshooting steps? (reset, restore, resync....etc).
mine was restarting itself randomly in ANY application. even after a restore (as a new phone), it did it as i was redoing all my settings. long story short, my phone was ultimately replaced by apple.

  • Watching Rented iTunes Movies in Locations with No Internet Access

After I rent/download movies from iTunes onto my MacBook Pro, will I be able to access/watch those movies if I bring my laptop to a location that has no Internet access (no hotspot, no wi-fi, no nothing)? I know the rentals are good for 30 days and I have 24 hours to finish a movie once I start it, but I'm not sure if I need to have continuous Internet access to watch them even after I rent them.

You only need an internet connection if you're going to transfer the rental from your computer to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod.  You can watch it without internet access, like in an airplane without WiFi.

  • Are there any plans to make renting iTunes movies workable, Apple? Or should I just use Amazon, BBC, Netflix, etc., which all stream HD?

I have tried twice to use iTunes rental. You have to plan ahead, preferrably the day before, unless you have a fast broadband connection.
    I don't.
However, my slow broadband connection enables me to stream instatly HD content from Netflix, BBC and now Amazon.
So, if I wanted to watch a movie on a journey, I guess downloading the whole movie would do the trick if I planned ahead.
But there are alternatives, particularly for those of us who still have DVD drives.
So, is iTunes movie just designed for commuters?
I think we should be told.

Thank you for getting back so quickly.
If I knew how to remove my post I would.
As for the problem, I don't know where to turn. Twitter, perhaps.

  • HT1657 can i watch rented itune movies on ipad while flying?

Basically heading to Hawaii, woulld prefer not to carry bulky lap top and utilize the benefits of an iPad.  Is it possible to rent, not buy HD movies from iTunes and have them avaialble to watch while flying overseas?  thanks.

There are films available to rent in the iTune store, but it's the film studio's choice as to whether a particular film is available as a rental, and if it is whether it's in HD and/or SD.
As lomg as the film has been fully downloaded (or synced) to the iPad's Videos app then you should be able to watch it whilst offline.

  • Need to be online to watch rented iTunes movie?

After I've downloaded a rented movie to my computer, is it necessary to be online to watch it?
I'd like to watch it on a plane.
    thanks!

You do not have to be online.

  • Just rented a movie on apple tv--watched half and wanted to continue watching the rest on my computer but can't find how to do this.

I just rented a movie on Apple Tv--started to watch it on the TV then wanted to continue on my computer (MacAir) but couldn't find a way to do this. Home sharing is enabled. I pulled up the movie in the Itunes store and clicked on 'rent' but I don't want to have to pay the rental fee again.

Rented movies downloaded to an Apple TV can't be transferred to any other device.

  • HT1657 I rented a movie on apple tv, how do I watch it on my iPad within the 30 days?

I rented a movie on apple tv, how do I watch it on my iPad within the 30 days?

If you rented it on your Apple TV, then from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657 :
If you download a rented movie on your computer: You can transfer it to a device such as your Apple TV (1st generation), iPhone, iPad, or iPod if it’s a standard-definition film (movies in HD can only be watched on your computer, iPad, iPhone 4 or later, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV). Once you move the movie from your computer to a device, the movie will disappear from your computer's iTunes library. You can move the movie between devices as many times as you wish during the rental period, but the movie can only exist on one device at a time.
If you download a rented movie on your iPhone 4 or later, iPad, iPod touch (4th generation or later), or Apple TV: It is not transferable to any other device or computer.

  • I rented a movie on apple tv, how do I watch it

I rented a movie using apple tv, (I know that it went through because when I click on Rent again it says you have already rented this movie )
How do I play it ??

Once you rent it it will tell you when its 'ready to watch' and you can then hit play. You can also access it by going to the movies tab, and the poster image for the rented title will appear in the top left. You can also go to settings - general - itunes store - check for rentals.
Note: a 6mbps connection is required for instant HD rentals. If you are much lower it may take some time before you can watch. Accessing other content during this time or turning off the device will flush the rental, requiring a reload.

  • I rented a movie on apple tv and while watching it kept stopping... i never finished the movie cause it wasn't playing

I rented a movie on apple tv and while watching it kept stopping... i never finished the movie cause it wasn't playing.. Now what do I do.  My netflix wouldn't play either.  Will I be able to get my rented movie back?

What is your internet speed? www.speedtest.net
6mbps is required for instant HD rentals, you can turn off HD in the settings if on a slow connection
You can also rent in iTunes and stream to ATV
    Wifi or ethernet?
Are you using your ISP's DNS?

    Hello chipotles
If the rental is not working, then follow the steps in this article to report an issue with your purchase. And then after that try the to rent the movie again.

  • I rented a movie on apple tv but want to watch it on my mac

I rented a movie on apple tv one night but it took so long to download I was not able to watch it. I have been travelling ever since and was hoping to watch it on my macbook air before it expired. Any ideas how I can transfer it to my iTunes? They all have the same account. Thanks so much for the help!

Only rentals made on a computer can be transferred to other devices. You will need to watch your rental on the Apple TV.

  • HT1657 I have rented a movie via apple tv and it gets stuck at 4 minutes left to download. I have not been able to watch and I can't get it to completely download.

I have rented a movie via apple tv and it gets stuck at 4 minutes left to download. I have not been able to watch and I can't get it to completely download.

You've tried restarting the film ? If it still skips then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that film and use the 'Report a Problem' link and fill in details about the problem (iTunes support should reply within, I think, 24 to 48 hours).
Some people have had a problem with the 'report a problem' link (it's been taking people to this site on a browser instead of showing a form in iTunes) - if it does that to you then try contacting iTunes support via this page : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/- click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page.

  • My child accidentally rented a movie on Apple TV.  Is there a way to refund the rental if we don't watch it?  How can I prevent this from happening?  Is there a way to password protect future purchases?

    Did you try Parental Controls?
Apple TV: Understanding Restrictions (parental controls) - Apple Support
See if that does the trick: I think there's a way for you to request a password for purchases, but still be logged in.
